Chapter 17: Death?
That's why he decided to use the deadliest art he knows of. Even after practising for more than 10 years, the didn't even learn a single percent of it - the one and only "Pyro Infernal".
It's a skill that you can't fully master without going beyond your limits or risking death if you use it before mastering it.
The skill was created by powerful beings from an unknown time and passed down from generation to generation.
Jason chose to use it even though he knew all about the skill, just to create a chance for Lily to live. He had only known her for a few days, but he sacrificed his life for her.
Although Jason had people on his planet who loved him, he didn't sacrifice himself because he had no one to care about.
He did it because that's the kind of person he truly is - the path he chose from the day he read his first novel, and he will remain the same even in death.
"So, there are still beings left in this plane whose resolve is greater than everything they care about. Hahaha!" the wolf said, laughing loudly.
Jason didn't reply to the wolf. He took some deep breaths and prepared for the fight, a mysterious aura surrounding him as his blood and sweat evaporated.
Boom! A loud bang reverberated through Jason's body as the skill was activated, although he was only able to use 1% of it.
He felt like his body was going to collapse from the pressure of the power he was generating, but he also knew that he had more than 10 times the power he had before.
He had a maximum of two minutes before he died, so he wasted no time attacking the wolf.
Jason raised his sword and dashed towards the wolf with such speed that any normal person would think he was teleporting. When he was close enough, he slashed at the wolf, who didn't move from his spot and only watched him closely.
As the amount of mana inside his body increased, so did the amount of mana he transferred to his weapons, which increased the flames around them.
Unbeknownst to Jason, when he slashed towards the wolf a few meters away, he timed it perfectly so that when his weapon struck, it hit at the perfect moment.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
A sharp red line extended from his sword towards the wolf.
For a moment, the wolf was caught off guard as he didn't expect Jason to do that.
However, he was able to react in time and avoid the attack by a hair's breadth because of his sharp senses honed by hundreds of battles.
After missing the target, the line continued its momentum and crashed into the ground, creating a deep line on the ground, with flames surrounding the impact area.
Jason didn't notice this at all as he continued his attack, but when his sword passed through the air and he fell, he realized he had missed his target. He looked around and saw the damage his slash had caused.
It took Jason a moment to digest how he was able to do that, but he quickly realized it was due to mana.
To test his theory, Jason casually slashed around his surroundings a few times. This resulted in the appearance of a transparent red line that caused almost the same damage as the first one.
Then, a wide evil smile appeared on Jason’s face as he looked towards the wolf.
“What do you think you can scratch me now, huh?” The wolf said, after watching the evil smile on Jason’s face.
“No, but now I can make you run,” Jason replied, immediately slashing towards the wolf.
The speed and strength of this slash were both much more powerful compared to the previous ones, as Jason now understood the skill somewhat.
Still, it was not powerful and fast enough to hit the wolf, but it made him avoid the attacks, which started to create more chances for him to take advantage.
After using ten slashes, Jason felt that a lot of mana was being used with each slash, but it was not a problem for him as he had enough mana to use it 100 more times.
The reason for this was that his skill was absorbing mana inside his body like a hungry shark.
“So, you want to play like this? Then tackle this,” the wolf said, launching a slash using his claws.
It was much slower than Jason’s slash, but it was so precise that Jason would not be able to evade it, as if the wolf already knew where he was going to be.
Using both swords, Jason launched his slash towards the wolf's slash and parried it. Their clash created sparks in the air.
At first, it seemed that Jason’s attack was much more powerful, but when they clashed, the result became clear. His slash wasn’t able to hold the wolf's slash even for a moment.
After destroying Jason's slash, it continued its route without any sign of slowing down.
Jason didn’t have any time to create another slash, so he used his sword to stop the slash.
Jason raised his sword and met the slash, but then he realized how much power the slash held as it started to push Jason backwards.
His arms started to hurt like hell, as if he was stopping 1 ton of weight.
After pushing Jason at least 30 meters, it finally started to slow down, which gave Jason a chance. He used it and changed the direction of the slash.
As they continued their fight, Jason realized that he didn’t have much time left before his skill ended and he lay dead.
If he wanted to win, he had to put his all into his next attack, or the sacrifice that he made for this would be in vain.
Jason attacked the wolf again with multiple slash attacks at once, which made the wolf evade them.
Jason then combined his weapons into one and started to concentrate all the mana inside his body into a single attack.
Then, all at once, he raised his weapon above his head and slashed towards the position with all his remaining strength and mana.
The move was so precise that it almost seemed as if Jason had predicted the wolf's next move.
The attack was incredibly powerful, creating a 6-meter vertical slash that was not completely transparent. As it moved forward, it ruptured the ground and left behind a flaming, ruptured trail.
After evading multiple slashes, the wolf suddenly felt a strong threat due to his high level of sensitivity.
The slash was so fast that the wolf didn't have any time to counter before it was just a few meters away from him.
Although the wolf was not weak and wouldn't surrender, he quickly used his claws to create multiple slashes to counter Jason's slash, even though the slashes didn't hold much power.
It was enough to stop Jason's slash for a moment, but it was also enough for the wolf to avoid it.
Even after the wolf evaded Jason's slash, there was still no sign of panic on Jason's face, as if he had already predicted this.
But the wolf continued to feel the threat, and a very small slash that was completely hidden behind the big slash finally hit the wolf's body.
This time, he wasn't able to evade the attack, as he was in the air and didn't have time to parry the slash.
When the wolf landed on the ground, a small smile appeared on his face, as if he was happy to have been hit.
"Even if you win, your time is finally up," he thought, looking towards Jason.
After seeing that his slash had finally hit the wolf and won the bet, a smile of joy appeared on Jason's face.
But before he could fully enjoy the moment, his skill finally stopped, and his body gave up.
Jason started to fall to the ground, but he still had a smile on his face, as if he had finally achieved something impossible, and there was no sign of regret inside him.
Dum!
With a loud sound, his body lay flat on the ground, and Jason closed his eyes. Even then, the smile didn't disappear, and he stopped showing signs of movement.
