Sitting on the iron chair and cutting up some artificial meat preparations with enough protein to fill my stomach. I of course tried to enjoy the day as usual.
Soon after, the cooking was finished. I looked at the meat while savoring every moment that might not be repeated.
For that, I'm here wearing office clothes with a white suit complete with tights and a red bow tie.
For me, a neat office uniform can make my mind feel calm. Moreover, in my current situation stress management is my only hope to survive.
"It's almost impossible for humans to completely let go of their biological instincts. No matter how much I try, the result will still be the same."
For one year, living alone in the bunker made me realize something. It was the fact that humans were designed to live in groups.
It's fine to have pets or grow plants, but in this place there are no such luxuries.
Or should I say that I'm just alone in this place feeling very bored.
So to fill the free time, I sometimes jot things down but at this rate, they don't fill enough space in my heart.
The world feels much more boring in my eyes.
I sometimes ask, what do humans live for in the world? Should humans have a motivation? No, it's much more appropriate to mention ambition?
Yes, ambition.
Humans need ambition.
After finishing my meal while thinking about that, I then grabbed the small mirror on my right side to look at my own face.
I didn't know if my face looked pretty or not, I couldn't even remember if this was my face in the past or not.
The researchers seemed to have added some other effects to my body, it was probably a decision that was made to fit the situation.
But clearly, my face has hardly aged at all. Well, whatever it is, at least this body of mine can still be called human because I still feel a small part of my instincts as a biological being.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Of course, what I mean here is eating and drinking and feeling bored. All of that I do every day until I get really bored.
What should I do? I don't know what to do.
All my needs are met without any problems.
I then grabbed the scientific paper left behind by the researchers and read it. It used to be a document file that was covered by ice, so some of the writing seemed unclear when I started to dry it.
But, fortunately, some of these papers were still readable.
"It says here that the artificial solar energy absorbing reactor is still unstable even after the 887th try. Exactly how many times have they tried since I started falling asleep?"
The document I was reading was a research result on the SUR-Project. "SU" meaning "Sun" and "R" meaning reactor. Of course as the name suggests, this is a long-term project researching the unlimited energy users of the artificial sun, I can say that this is one of the realizations of the beauty of science.
The research was originally started by the Western Alliance in Europe before the Eastern Federation countries started developing similar projects. All of this is done so that these countries are free from the monopoly of the global energy business that often binds their interests.
At the start of the war, research on the SUR-PROJECT was booming. The countries did everything in their power to bring the project to perfection as soon as possible, so that the energy benefits would be on their side.
No matter how powerful the weapons they had, without fuel they were nothing more than rusted metal. I understand why they do all that, of course it's very important.
But after coming close to total destruction, the company I worked for then managed to steal some of that technology for the common good.
Shared? Yes, together with me and the employees under my command.
All the documents on the desk are proof of that.
"Foodstuffs can be liquefied, and I've also managed to grow some fresh nut and fruit plants. It's not a point I have to worry about."
Food wasn't the source of the problem in the first place, I don't need to worry about that.
The problem was that my psyche was being eroded little by little.
My frozen, expressionless face signaled that I had reached my limit.
Looking to the left, right at the table full of notebooks, I saw a stack of playing cards with two dice.
I immediately grabbed the cards to play with. My hands moved rhythmically like I was dancing in the air, immediately after which I dealt out two sets of playing cards at the table opposite me.
I knew that there was no one in front of me but an empty, dusty chair. But try to imagine this, imagine that in front of me was someone who was playing cards with me, whoever it was, no matter if it was a woman or a man, the most important thing was that there was someone next to my table.
I imagined that in my head even though I knew it was stupid.
With the line of cards in my hand, I played a game of Remi by myself.
"Looks like this will be my win. 21, Blackjack."
Throwing it on the table and showing the result. This is my win!
Ah. Please forget this.
"Gosh, should I go now? But I can't be sure if there's still a place to live out there. It's useless, let's bet on it."
There were two dice near me, which gave me an idea.
If I can't decide for myself, then what if I bet on that irrational nonsense called fate.
"If the result is odd, I'll get out of this place. If the result is even, let's stay here for some more time."
I grabbed the two dice and threw them into the air. The dice floated above me as if fate was really playing with them.
But just as the two dice fell, a loud noise caught my attention.
It came from behind the steel door.
"Someone? Or maybe a wild animal."
I got up from my seat and immediately went to the control room.
Inside the control room that was only a few doors away, I found a monitor screen that showed a man in strange clothes hitting a steel door with a wooden stick with diamonds floating on it.
"Huh? Human?"
The screen on the monitor showed that the man seemed to be trying to get into this bunker. I'm not going to leave it at that. Who can assure me that the man does not have a genetic mutation that also spreads unknown diseases.
There are too many unconfirmed possibilities, I'll monitor it a little longer.
"Increase the sound sensitivity. I want to hear what that man is trying to say."
The screen in front of me then changed. I faintly heard a strange voice.
The man behind the steel door was saying something. His language was very unique.
How do I explain this, you know, the man seemed to be saying something in a mixed English-German language but with a Japanese accent.
It bothered my ears a bit when the word that should have been spelled with an "L" was now spelled with an "R." Well, at least I could understand what the man was saying.
