Her Survivor

Her Survivor

This may sound silly, but I think humans are just multicellular organisms that have gone through various stages of evolution.

Some might consider this a one-sided claim based on arrogance. Humans certainly have a lot of limitations, some people are stupid and some people are smart.

It would make sense for people to say that human science is full of lies and fallacies.

But in fact, science is the truth, at least it is the most efficient way of getting to the truth, the strongest weapon for mankind.

Without science, can mankind survive the ferociousness of the World?

Without science, would humanity be able to multiply their numbers?

Without science, would humans be able to develop to this extent?

Is it because of love? Of course not, the word love would only be said by those who do not understand the biological instincts of humans as an earth-dwelling species.

For example, something as simple as liking the opposite sex for reproduction. This can be explained scientifically as an attempt for humanity to continue the DNA sequence in their bodies. A biological record that stores all the data about the human body. Or about the origin of human anger, it can be explained scientifically as an individual's attempt to protect himself from external threats.

I let out a small sigh as I thought about it.

Yes, geez this is ridiculous. In a bad situation like this, I still think of things like that.

"At least it will go according to plan. I hope so."

I whispered that as my delicate fingers flipped through the documents on the table.

One sheet after another, each friction of the gloves created a familiar sound in my ears.

That's the financial report.

"Ms. White."

My subordinate called me just like that. The man then continued after checking some of the data he had brought.

"The war between the west and east is getting worse."

The Eastern Federation country against the western Alliance has actually been going on for a long time. The fruit of their arrogance and selfishness to him eventually created a conflict between the countries. The longer the conflict lasts, the more parties will be involved.

That's also the reason why I lost my old job.

If only the world war hadn't happened, I would have enjoyed my retirement as an ordinary office lady.

But the state of the world forced me to move on and I ended up becoming an executive of a heavyweight arms company that traded with both the Eastern and Western Federations over the years.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

With all the advantages I had, I could at least taste the peaceful life at the end of the world.

Until when that report came to me.

My subordinate, the old man let out a small sigh.

"Miss, Earth is no longer habitable."

Those were the last words I heard before I left.

...

My eyes opened slightly.

I blinked a few times before my vision was able to adapt to the darkness.

I vaguely felt my body temperature was very cold, my legs could barely move and my fingers seemed to be frozen.

But I didn't let this continue, I then moved my hand to open the door of the capsule where I was sleeping.

The hibernation capsule or whatever finally opened.

I fell on a layer of cold ice that I didn't remember. My memory still hasn't recovered at the moment.

My head felt like it was hit with a hammer when the cold temperature reached the skin of my neck. Blinking a few times while looking for the button to turn on the light. I then found one but it was covered by a thick layer of ice.

Ah, yes, there was an axe.

My weak hand then grabbed the axe. Damn it, why does this thing feel so heavy?

My strength wasn't up to lifting the axe for too long, so I looked for another way. I then fiddled with the axe to use the momentum of the blow to let gravity help me break the ice.

Crack!

The layer of ice covering the button finally broke apart.

I quickly pressed the light button so that the whole part of the room around me was finally clearly visible.

"The bunker. Ah, now I remember. That bunch of researchers finally made it."

I recalled it bit by bit. Apparently this place was the bunker I built with all the money I had.

In order to avoid a world war and the destruction of the world. I decided to hire researchers as well as invite them to continue the human species.

The fact that I woke up again proved that the research they were doing had finally reached a level where humans could survive even in an environment with high radioactive radiation.

Great, now how much time has passed?

Maybe five years or maybe nine years. Let's assume so. Next.

"I need a warm cloth or a furry coat."

I tried to walk around, my legs still hadn't fully recovered so I periodically tried to organize myself to rest frequently.

I finally found a coat and quickly put it on. Thankfully, this naked body that could freeze at any time was now getting a little warmth.

The reactor in this bunker seems to be working, but why is this place filled with thick ice, is the heating machine broken?

I wonder where the researchers I left behind went, because after I wandered around for a while I didn't find anyone.

There should be some hints of life around here. But even after I went to the dining room, it was strange that so many food reserves were left out.

"It's as if this bunker has been abandoned for a long time. Wait, what about the wall clock?"

I stood back up and looked for the place where the wall clock or any clock was. It should be in the office or break room.

I finally found one. It was a semi-digital clock with the numbers no longer changing.

"The calendar on this machine can only last up to 300 years. That means if there isn't any damage to it, then the time I've passed in this bunker is probably more than 300 years."

That's just the minimum number. In fact, I could hardly find a way to tell how much time had passed.

If only there was a tree growing here, I might be able to predict the time when I cut down the tree to see the ring layer inside. But this is a bunker, of course there are no trees around here.

Then, how about looking at the weathering of the iron? No, no, all the iron here is designed not to rust even for thousands of years, so that all the machines are able to function automatically without the need to think about making spare parts, such a design is necessary.

This knowledge is not helpful at all.

I thought that while placing my hand under my chin. My snow-white hair with blackish tones around the bangs made me feel uncomfortable.

I should probably cut my hair, long hair always bothered me when I was working in the past, so I started to assume that a woman with long hair sometimes gets into trouble when working.

It's just a matter of fashion perspective and habit, for the truth I can't confirm that.

"Yes, I'll confirm it next time."
