In his first four days, he ended up using the same tactic as the first day.
Coal liked to call that "Throw and run" tactic. But to me, I would name it gruerilla rabbit tactics.
His first day we had already knew the result, the thin creature came out of its cave and then returned as if nothing happend.
His second day had no much difference. Coal threw an almighty stone into the cave but instead of when the hole black, he threw when the hole turn orange. The thin creature came out of the cave, looked at it a little longer than the day before but still came back as if there was nothing happened.
But in his third day or the third attempt, something changed. The thin creature still came out and go inside like the first two day, but this time instead of looking at the broken ice hole and the universal stone. It looked directly at Coal hiding direction, but only for a few seconds and then adverted it view around the woods in front of its eyes. After a long time nothing change in its eye, the thin creature angrily, maybe? walked inside the cave one again.
In the fourth day, when Coal woke up. The broken ice hole was still magically fixed like it was in the past. But only after a long time, Coal noticed something strange about the cave. It was too quiet and that day, the holes didn't change it color like normal. It used to frequently change between black and orange. He had already noticed that it turned orange in the night and in early morning when the sun was about to rise, it looked warm but black all other times.
Still wondered if he should use his same tactic once again, but only after he left his hiding place and closing up near the wooden cave, being ready in his threw stance... The thin creature suddenly appeared from the woods direction. What more terrifying was that, the thin creature's hiding place only few trees from Coal's one.
It ran toward Coal with a speed no difference from a lion. Its higher legs outstretched while holding something looked very long like a stick and its face looked like it was about to eating him alive after finally found the culprit who disturbed its peaceful place and even caught him red-hand.
Confused, Coal threw the stone he was about to threw at the ice hole but could not and still remaining on his hand at the thin creature and then ran without looking back.
Only after a few tiring minutes of playing tag game, Coal somehow escapsed from the clutch of the grim reaper and made it to the end of the fourth day.
In the fifth day, he decided to change his hole location after witness the hiding place where the thin creature appeared from in the woods and used his whole day finished it.

He didn't know why but sometimes when he raised head while his hands still busily digging the hole, he could see the thin creature went back and forth in front of the wooden cave while its higher legs were still holding the long stick, which had a big bunch of hay at its end, and also which was used hit him by the thim creature the day before.
In his sixth day, the cave came back to normal, which was sometimes black and some other times orange. But also at he same time, it had some slightly changes. Several wooden stakes and fences suddenly grew out on the ground outside near the wooden cave from nowhere.
Coal guessed that the thin creature was about to catch him no matter what in spite of it had already returned to it cave. So he used his day trying to understand what could he do and what he couldn't with the present of the new objects. And at the same time, made the thin creation thought about an illusion that Coal had already left after been squeezed his sh*t out in the fourth day.
Seventh day,
After the end of sixth day, he had discovered that he could just dig a tunnel under the wooden fences to pass it or maybe could even become his escaped route in case he decided broke into the cave. He just needed to use a little camouflage on the entrance and at the end of the tunnel, and it would be perfect. About the stakes, well, he just needed to dig the tunnel a little longer to evade it.
And ask about whether the thin creature was inside the cave or not. He thought that he could simply observe the color of the hole to know answer.
When it was orange, it meant that the thin creature was inside and when it was black, it meant that the thin creature wasn't there. But always one exception, when at night it was always black. And it was complicated... when he counted the exception into his plan.
Coal thought it used to sleep at night before but after the fourth day, he didn't think he was so sure about it anymore. The broken ice hole was fixed at night and the wooden stakes, fences appeared after a night either. Perhap the thin creature changed its sleep habit to catch him? And why slept in the morning while making things at night? Did it use light in the dark? How could it keep the hole black while it use light?
You knew animals would come if they saw something emit light in the night except for the moon, right?
And how did know he wouldn't attack the cave when it was at night?
Yes, indeed. It was too dark and the other dangerous animals might come if they heard that big sound. Living at night in the woods was really dangerous, especially when you were just a small creature compared to the fierce nocturnal predators.
He was just a hungry rabbit looking for food, not becoming the food itself.
And he wouldn't take the risk to broke in the cave when it was all dark while he couldn't see a thing in there. It was too dangerous.
...
The longer Coal thought about it, the more he thought the creature was very intelligent, maybe even more intelligent than him.
It could be understandable, no stupid creature could live very long in that woods and at the same time made something splendid like a wooden cave and wooden objects.
But, just forgot it. He would still have to break into the cave anyway, and if it indeed intelligent than him, it couldn't run away like he did. No, not when it still had the cave to protect and only when it was confident enough to survive itself in the woods in the winter.
Coal thought that even though it couldn't do anything to help him in his situation, it was still a big advandge compared to the thin creature.
He thought that he had to cool his head.
He still had time, so just relaxed a little bit before he made a decision.
