Outside the sphere barrier, Norde and Josh had stopped their attempts to enter the barrier. They stood there with defeated expression, their renisas spent. They tried everything they could but nothing worked.
Simon looked at the two and addressed Hob who was now standing between them and the barrier. “If they even approached you, kill them.” He turned around, heading towards the back side of the diamond throne,
It was almost time and Simon didn’t want any distractions.
Hob nodded, gazing at the two cousins with his cold eyes.
The two gritted their teeth but they did not move from where they stood.
Behind the diamond throne, outside the boundary of the sphere barrier, connected a tube which was two meters in diameter. The tube was covered in transparent glass with the ropes dangling above it.
Simon opened the door and entered it. The ropes inside immediately animated, floating in the air like snakes. Except for its gray color, it resembles the renisas vines latched to the Pretty’s body.
He sat on the single stool inside and closed the door of the tube. He locked the harnesses from the side of the stool on his thighs and waist.
With a deep breath he extended his arm to one of the vines and it immediately latched on his arm like a viper lunging its prey,
His body fell forward from the sudden onslaught of pain towards his rentom. Beads of sweat flowed through his face and he almost passed out from the pain. His mind black out and all he could feel was the pain.
Pain. Pain. So much Pain.
The pain did not lessen and instead intensified. He felt like he was going to explode but the grey renisas inside him moved on it’s own and flowed outside, wrapping the renisas vine.
The pain immediately lessened to a greater degree and he finally could breathe again. Shaking his head, he did not contemplate a second to add the second vine and the pain he felt a while ago came back, but to a much greater degree. This time, he was ready to invoke the gray renisas. It moved quickly and attached to the second vine, making him only suffer pain for a second.
He did it five more times, until he only had one left to attach.
The last vine though was special. It needed to be attached at the same time all of the other eight vines completely attached to the extractee’s body.
He watched intently at the platform as the last tube came closer to Pretty’s rentom. The last vine inside the sphere barrier was also different. It was moving slowly and seemed to be ignoring the rentom in front of it, as if it was blind and was just relying on its smell. Only at the moment that it could sense a rentom would it move relentlessly to attach to the rentom.
Excitement covered Simon’s face as the renisas vine inched closer to Pretty. He impatiently wanted the tube to attach right away so he could attach his vine already.
But as the last tube was about to latch on Pretty’s rentom, the rentom realm where it could only be accessible and visible to Renisas Eyes and senses, exploded in green and yellow lights. Simon, who was looking at the platform with his renisas eyes, was blinded by the sudden onslaught of lights.
Just as his sights returned to normal, eight black cables shimmering in white sparks, just like stars in the sky, dashed towards the platform direction at a fast speed. It zoomed towards the invisible barrier, breaking it easily as if it was made of knockoff glass and wrapped towards Pretty’s Rentom.
The renisas vines attached to Pretty melted and vanished instantly and Pretty felt all the pain she endured suddenly vanished. Her eyesights went back and she felt being levitated out from her body.
Norde and Josh, who were watching at the side, felt dumbfounded by the scene they witnessed. But it couldn’t compete with what Simon was feeling. When the black cables broke the barrier and melted the vines, the remaining vines inside it retracted and then it flew towards the tube he’s in. Before he could react, several mangled vines latched into him and he buckled from the pain. He tried to release more grey renisas to cover the vines and temporarily make it his own but the more vines attached to him, the more gray renisas he needed. He could not managed multiple vines attaching to him at the same time,

Pretty started levitating above the room, and saw a sight that shocked her. Unlike the short glimpse she had seen before, on Simon’s body, several rentom seemed to be living in it, overlapping with each other and moving erratically. She could see different features and sizes of the rentoms.
She realized It was not that his rentom was multiplying into multiple parts, it was because other rentoms was living in it. She did not know how this happened but this must be the source of the gray renisas that he was able to use despite him consuming his own white renisas.
The mysterious black cables dangled Pretty in the air for a moment, as if they wanted her to see what would happen to Simon. She hoped the rentom vines would rip his rentom and soul apart instead. She also wished he felt tremendous pain from the torture his undergoing now and he died afterwards.
She never wished anyone death and pain like she felt with Simon right now. How she wished she could come down and kill him but she knew she couldn’t anymore. She did not even know what will happen to her next or how the cable was able to retain her rentom for the meantime, or for what purpose it was doing this.
She knew that she had no chance of going back to her body anymore. It was already dead with a bullet in its head.
What would happen to her eventually was death. A rentom could never survive without a body.
She did not know the origin and the intention of the one controlling these cables, but did it matter? She would die anyway. Whatever its plans, it was much better than being used to power up Simon. Anything was better. And if the result was seeing Simon suffer, and possibly to death, then she would take it any minute.
Pretty took a gaze towards two cousins of her. She did not know why Josh was doing those things for her but at least, in this world, another person cared for her. She registered it as him caring for her.
She thanked Norde in her heart and hoped that he would find peace and resolution in this life. She knows that he would not let Simon get away that easily, and despite how it would be dangerous for Norde, it still gave her comfort. She wished him luck.
She took one last look at Simon whose body was slowly being sucked out of life from the vines. As if feeling her gaze, Simon looked up and gazed right through her.
Loathing painted his eyes and a clear streak of madness was tainting it, “I w-will find y-you.” he gritted out from his mouth.
Pretty did not know what happened next as she was suddenly lifted out of the room. She passed through the earth above the room, the secret rooms and tunnels that the Medhall has, the walls and ceilings of the Medhall, through the mountain city and the renisas dome that covers it.
She soared to the sky and after a while the mysterious cable slowed down until it stopped ascending her
Pretty floated there for a second gazing at the dark clouds above her, that seemed to be bigger than ever.
She could see some crackles of light from the occasional lighting and the rubble of thunder, and she marveled about the beauty and the power of nature.
She looked down and could only see the dim tiny lights of the Summit City, barraged by the wind and rain, the dark sky brought.
Pre stayed there for almost a minute without anything happening.
Curious, she inspected the cables that were still attached to her body. There were eight of them in total, coming from different random directions, stretching towards the horizon.
She gingerly touched it and it felt like putting her hand in a warm soft sand, or a fedora. It was not rough, but it was not soft either, but it felt smooth to touch. She traced it with her eyes and felt that something was pulling her from the cable she’s touching. She’d let it pull her and her visions narrowed. Her vision shifted and traveled towards the extremities of the cables as if her eyes were the train and the mysterious cable was the rail tracks. It led towards the west and after a while her vision stopped and saw a city during night, laid below her.
The city’s layout seemed familiar to her but her attention was caught on a lone familiar book at the end of the cable. It was a thick black book with no title or any designs on its cover. She pondered where she has seen the book and recognized right away that it was a book she had seen before.
It was the haunted book who chased her around the world for the past few months that she was running from the Summit. She had thought, from the strange renisas that she could sense from it, that it was a special book or rentom device controlled by some rentom user or even the Summit.
What made it weird was that she could never lift the book from where it was placed but she always found it in random places when she visited other countries. She always wondered why it was following her if not to harm her and it never did. She just thought it was haunted.
With her attention caught by the book, her hand accidently let go of the cable and her vision returned above the Summit City.
She touched the cable again and she was back at that city. She let go and she was back at the Summit Mountain skies.
She inspected the other cables and it did the same thing. The only difference was that it took her towards different cities and countries, some who were at night and some who were at day. But she noticed a similarity between all of those cities. They were ones that she had visited before.
Also, all of the cables were attached to another black book.
She was never chased by the same book, there were eight of them and somehow she always found each of them.
Before she could think further, her visions suddenly dimmed and the sounds of the storm raging above her faded.
Everything faded into black and she thought if this was it. The last moment of her life. And if so, where were the moments that should have flashed in her eyes?
Nothing flashed and all went black.
