She jumped back out from the greenhouse entrance, afraid of what could be surprises lurking inside.
The Medhall was behind the agricultural department. She decided that she had to get there, as one of her hiding places was in her father’s other office.
Pretty’s father was a biotechnological research scientist and when her father was working in his laboratory in the Medhall, she discovered a secret room in his office and whenever she wanted to be alone, she stayed there.
She jogged towards the street in front of the greenhouses and went in the east direction. There was an intersection ahead and the north street would lead her to the Medhall.
She stopped near the intersection just to the last greenhouse. There was a street sign in it and the sign to the north said 'GHIANSI ST'. That’s what she have to pass.
Before Pretty could enter the Ghiansi street, she inched towards the concrete wall that was the boundary between the Agricultural Department and the street, peering towards the Medhall ahead of the Ghiansi Street.
As she had expected there was another set of Summit Soldiers guarding at the L intersection, in front of the Medhall. They must have been informed she’s coming this way.
Contrary to normal streets, the streets in the Summit City were narrower as only humans used it for walking, as cars were rare there.
There was a special road in the Summit where four and above wheeler vehicles used to travel from south of the Summit City to the north, and from east to west. It was placed in the middle of the city, forming a cross.
Bicycles were the common transportation mode in the Summit City and only few people even had them, as the citizens preferred to walk. It might be called a city, but in fact the whole Summit was just 20 km² in size and half of the land was used as farmlands and residential, and the other half were for facilities.
Pretty was currently in the northeastern part of the Summit, right to the edges of the mountain. The whole city was bordered with high walls made of thick concrete overlooking the cliffs. Only one area of the mountain, which was in the southern part, had the access road out of this city, which was heavily guarded and most of the time, locked.
They were only used as the passage for trainees to use when they train in the forest and mountains beside the Summit City. Even if she tried to escape using the south passageway, she would still be trapped on the island. There were no ferries or ships available on the island. She has a boat but that would be suicidal for her to sail in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. She, sadly, did not even know how to operate it.
Besides, even if she could pass the guards and all the security measures of the south passageway (she had tried and it was guarded and locked), she didn’t think she could survive the jungle below the mountain.
There’s literally wild beasts below there and if that would not kill her, some of the most poisonous plants in the world exist there, she was definitely trapped. Even if she was able to overcome this, she also needed to trek hundreds of kilometers of rainforest with a map that she didn’t have.
The only transportation that the Summit had was their small airport with their business jets and cargo aircraft. And she, like most people in the world, did not know how to fly one. She was not crazy yet to hijack a plane or a pilot. That would be an idiotic move. A plane was not like a car, that she could steal and drive pronto. God knows, she didn’t even know if a plane needed to be fueled or do some preparation or maintenance before it could fly. She couldn’t even regret not learning it. If you had the ability to zip from country to country, learning how to fly a plane would be a waste of time.
She couldn’t even roam the south part of the city as that was where the barracks, training centers, and the airport were located. She had just escaped from that place and it took her more than 300% of her renisas just to hide and to barely escape there. She would normally consume 80% percent or 8 cubic meters of renisas, in a week. But in less than a day, she had expended a month of supply for it. She may have robbed the Summit of their supply, but renisas were a type of energy that needed to be replenished. She could not replenish it when she’s running.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
She couldn’t also stay invisible and stayed in the southern part of the Summit as she needed a place to recharge and compared to the south, the north was an easier place to be chased by someone, as most of the north were residential and utility areas of the Summit. The Summit Soldiers were lesser in amount in the North.
So that was why she was contemplating using the only street between the greenhouses and the medhall’s yard. The Agricultural Department had a wall to mark their demarcation. She couldn’t pass behind the greenhouses as she, sadly, did not have an ability to pass through walls.
East of the Ghiansi Street was the TH Summit Superstore, a store building managed by the city for the Medhall, and east to the store was literally the 15 meter wall that separates them from the hundreds of meters of sheer dropping cliff.
That’s why the only way was Ghiansi Street. She had to turn back around to get to the main road and she couldn’t afford that.
She could technically use her zipping ability to zip from where she was to the Medhall’s yard but that would be a waste of renisas, she would need at least a minimum of 0.50 cubic meter or 5% of her renisas to activate the ability. That would be a waste of renisas, for just a few meters of walk, that she didn’t have. Besides, she have better ways.
She activated her ability and she went invisible. To be safer she activated another ability, fifteen seconds later, the Summit Soldiers ahead of her suddenly chased someone towards the west road in front of the Medhall.
The Ghiansi St. was now empty of Summit soldiers.
The little amount of renisas that she had recharged a while ago had now been spent. She looked toward the renimeter bracelet in her wrist and cursed. Her body’s renisas storage is at 17%. Which was a bad thing for her, normally to avoid problems she has to maintain 20% renisas to protect her rentom, but even now, she was still consuming her own renisas to maintain her invisibility. She needed to recharge. If not…
A memory flashed to her mind. She quickly shooed it away but it had done its effects. Just the thought of that happening to her again gave her a shudder. She did not want that to happen again, so she needed to recharge.
She crossed Ghiansi St. with no issues. After the street was a road leading to the west, the Fiona St. which was the street in front of the Medhall.
The Medhall was a huge building that has a function similar to a hospital. But the main hospital of the city was located in the center of the Summit. The Medhall also accepted patients but it was more like a research center. The building was four stories high and as wide as 200 meters.
The Fiona Street was also devoid of people, and the soldiers who were there a while ago were nowhere to be seen. But they would probably be back any second now.
Pretty passed the empty street towards the huge yard of the Medhall. She saw no people around but the Medhall was open. It was still raining so most of the people were probably somewhere with roofs on their heads.
There were a few sets of stairs leading toward the doors of the Medhall. She just has to pass through it, go inside and enter the past office of his father. In the back of his father’s office, there was a secret mechanism that opened into a secret room. She might not be able to get away from them and she might be traced again but at least she could hide for some time and recharge her renisas. The room also happens to have a backdoor that could lead her to the tunnels below the Medhall. She could take her time there if possible.
She climbed the stairs and landed on the walkway below the wide portico of the Medhall. There were still fifty meters to the entrance of the Medhall from the stairs and as she passed half of the distance, invisible, a blaring alarm blasted all around her.
Pretty was pretty sure it was for her. She was not surprised or shocked. She knew it would come one way or another.
She figured they must have some kind of detection here. A lot of possibilities flashed through her head and one of them seems to be the explanation. Heat detection.
She couldn’t be seen by cameras and she couldn’t also be detected through sound. She made sure of that. But to save her energy, she only went invisible and muffled the sounds she made, but she did not hide her body heat.
She immediately chided herself for being careless. She never had to worry about it when she was on an undercover mission as no one really uses heat to monitor intruders especially if the intruder intruded in their front doors, It’s not like there are a lot of people who could go invisible like her.
People around the world did not even know that such people could have an ability like being invisible. Most people were unaware that there was a group of humans who could have supernatural abilities.
Her identity, as well as everyone’s in the Truth Holders Summit was confidential and protected, both by themselves and the organization. One of the rules of the Summit was that they should never show civilians about their ability. If not, they would either terminate the civilian or the perpetrating member instead, whether it was an accident or not.
She never had problems hiding herself and her abilities, but she forgot that this was the Summit, a place who knew about her existence.
