Wesley could still hear the shouting from the crowd outside and still had no idea what caused there anger.
Revna, Elekid and Eevee returned to the grand hall and Revna was very excited.
"Ekid is so cool he can make sparks mommy!" Revna excitedly informs Yrsa.
"It's really a unique pokemon. Might even be a first of its kind. " Yrsa smiles
"Ivar where can I get a sparky pokemon like elekid? Ive never seen sparky pokemon!" Revna asks
"Well, I'm not sure Revna. I'm not really sure a about much here. I don't exactly live around here so..."
"You'll find one sometime Rev." Yrsa cuts Wesley off "You'll just have to go out and find one, one day when you've grown." She smiles as Revna, Eevee and Elekid continue to play in the grand hall.
"Lightnging type pokemon have not been discovered here." Yrsa whispers "She may never see another. We belive Thor will bless us with pokemon of his power one day, when the time is right."
Wesley is stunned by this
"You mean no other pokemon in this place know electric attacks?"
Yrsa smiles and shakes her head "None."
Elekid may be the key to getting home wesley thinks to himself, if any trainers are using water types they will have no idea what to do against electric attacks.
The back door opens and Thorkell enters the grand hall, Removing his hood.
"Uff we need to really thin the heard tomorrow. These trainers are just getting ridiculous." Thorkell says as he hangs up his cloak.
"Father!" Revna yells sprinting toward Thorkell and leaping in to his arms.
"There's my sweet Revna, did you have fun since coming home?" He says giving Renva a great big hug
"Oh yes father! Ivar knows a bunch of stuff about eggys and his Pokémon came from one. He has a sparky pokemon and hes so cool. Eevee and I have been playing battle with him and I had a super idea."
Revna tells thorkell. She whispers something in thorkell's ear and Thorkell chuckles.
"We will see on that one Rev, for now I think I smell supper. Why don't you go see how it's coming along." Thorkell says smiling Revna's secret idea.
Thorkell sees Wesley and waves him over. As wesley approaches Thorkell he can see his hands are wrapped up from hours of work at the iron shop.
"I see the clothes fit. You may need a lesson on the leg wraps but you definitely won't stick out as much now. Has Yrsa given you the rundown of vahalla?" Thorkell asks
"She has sir. Except one thing. Why is there so many angry trainers outside?" Wesley asks hoping it's not a sore subject.
"Well that's my fault." Thorkell admits "After years of repeatedly battling the same trainers day in and day out, and than having to spend my nights making armrings I have had enough. Yrsa and I now only battle until two armbands are won a day. I sleep at night and my pokemon get proper training and a trainer that isn't to fatigued when battling."
"I can see why they are upset" Wesley says "But you need time to yourself too."
"Exactly." Thorkell agrees "When Embla returns I hope you two will be ready with this new rule you'll be facing us at 100%."
"I don't know if I want to compeate." Wesley says "I just want to find Delsey and get her home safe."
"Our paths have already been decided." Thorkell says with a grin "You may not want it, but if your path leads you to compete, you'll compeate. No one can run from their fate. Embla believes her path home is through competing."
"If you say so." Wesley says not wanting to to think of what may come.
Yrsa calls for everyone to gather for supper. It was a simple stew but wesley wasn't fussy, he hadn't eaten all day. Elekid was never fussy but he was a bit unsure as there was no Pokémon food. The Pokémon ate whatever the humans were eating which was a bit different from its normal routine. Everyone dished up their stew into wooden hand carved bowls and Thorkell held his drink horn high. Seeing this Yrsa and Revna did the same so Wesley followed
"We thank the gods for our lands, our seas and our skies. We are thankful for the sacrifices made by the meat we are about to consume and for the work preformed to prepare it. We also thank the gods for bringing Ivar to our table and we hope they guide him and Embla on the path that leads them home. Skàl."
After the blessing they all drink and begin to eat.
"Ivar" Thorkell says with a grin "Were you able to figure out what a Hornskox is?"
Wesley stares at his stew embarrassed "No. Didn't get to talk much about the Pokémon here."
Thorkell smiles and points to the large, strange bull skull with steel horns on the wall behind Wesley. "This is the skull of a great Hornskox."
"Story time!" Revna cheers
"Finish your supper Rev while I tell the story." Thorkell smiles. "Many years ago, long before Revna was born, I was a young man in search of adventure and danger. In those days everyone feared or hunted pokemon. We still relyed on raids and war. I had not proven to my father my worth yet and I was determined to show him that I could fight and take down any man or beast. My father was a legendary raider his accomplishments in the times of war were known across the lands and sent fear in the hearts of men across the seas. I knew I was destined to follow in his footsteps and I knew that I could show him my worth by taking down and hunting a great beast. I told him that I would not return until I found and took down the most feared beast around. Dredrir!"
"Noooooo." Revna cried out covering her ears. "Skip that part!"
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
"Thorkell." Yrsa smiles "Stick to the Hornskox. You can tell Ivar about.. that Pokémon later. "
"I'll skip ahead sweet heart." Thorkell puts a hand on Revna's head. "You want to help with the fun part?"
Revna's smile returns as she nods.
"I was away from home about a year with no luck finding.. that Pokémon." Thorkell continues. "During that time I faced many dangers like Pinsir and Draugrestless and Comonor All very strong and dangerous Pokémon. But I had outsmarted all of them. I thought I had taken on some of the strongrst pokemon around until I met this Hornskox. He was the king of his heard and without me even knowing it, he was following me. In that year of time I had encountered many treaturous conditions like snow and powerful rain storms with winds that would collaps trees and thunder that rattled Midgard. But the worst was the fires. The forests were green an full of life one day than suddenly in the night for no reason they would begin to burn. Huge flames to my left, More flames to my right, Countless times I'd have to run to a body of water and swim away from the scorching flames. But one night I had this gut feeling that if I slept the flames would return and consume me. So that night I layed down at the edge of the forest and I'd keep one eye open watching around me. I could hear something sneaking around and i saw a glow approaching. I crawled over to a bush an peaked around to see what was coming. With my sword in on hand and a seax in the other I thought I was prepared. I stood up quickly to face my stalker, and than."
"HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORN!" Revna yells.
"I drop my sword and seax as the deep toned sound rattles my ears and sent me flying backwards." Thorkell continues. "When I stood back up."
"HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORN!"
Revna yells again.
"I feel a pop in my ear and the ringing began. " Thorkell says sticking his pinky in his right ear. "I kneeled down as to not fall again. When I look up I see this enormous hornskox charging at me, dragging its flame engulfed tail in the grass. I jump to my left just in time, had I been a moment slower he for sure would have trampled me. I ran back to the edge of the forest and picked up sword and began to charge toward him. He turns and faced me and I saw the flames of his coat grow. I knew what he was about to do."
"HOOOOOOOOOOOOORN!"
Revna yells again
"I stopped my charge stuck my sword in the ground with my right hand and plugged my good ear with my left. The ringing in my right ear was bad enough I knew it was already destroyed. I could feel the sound of its horn rattling my sword as I held on trying not to be sent backwards. When it stopped its warhorn blast I pulled my sword from the ground and we both began to charge one another. Just before we met I rolled to my right and slashed the hornskox side. It's flames were so hot it cauterized the wound instantly. I knew there was only one thing I could do to take a beast such as this down."
"RUUUUUUUN!"
Revna yells.
"I high tail it as fast as I can." Thorkell says "I jumped over logs and ducked under branches, when I looked behind me I could see the hornskox is not far behind, which is right where I wanted him. You see straight ahead was a mountain ledge and at the bottom was a lake. When I got to the edge I jumped up and grabbed a tree branch and the hornskox was running so fast he couldn't stop and he ran right off the ledge into the lake. When he hit the water a huge cloud of steam came rushing up into the sky."
"You killed it?" Wesley says worried what kind of people he has found himself with.
"Don't jump ahead Ivar." Thorkell says with smile. "While hanging from the tree I could hear the hornskox cries. I jumped back onto ground and began sprinting down. The entire time I ran down to it I could hear it's low toned, haunting calls. When I reached the lake the hornskox had only dragged itself to a shallower area that was only ankle deep. I walked up to the nearly extinguished hornskox. It was calling out and kicking and struggling trying to move. I raised up my sword and it looked me in the eye. When it's eyes met mine I could see that it knew the end was here. It stopped struggling, it layed its head down and closed its eyes. Suddenly I couldn't do it. My heart started racing, my arms went numb, and my knees began to shake. I dropped my sword and fell to my knees. Slowly I lifted my arms and reached out and placed my hand on his massive front shoulder. With my touch he opened his eyes and raised its head looking me in the eye once more. Had he chose to, he could have killed me in that moment and I wouldn't had fought it. After what I had done to this incredible pokemon I was prepared to meet my fate and take what ever punishment it was going to give. I closed my eyes waiting for one of its giant steel hooves to end my existence. Instead in lowered its head onto my lap. I opened my eyes and rubbed its head between the horns. I heard a rock fall behind me and when I turned who did I see?"
"Mommy!" Revna cheers
"She smiled and began walking into the lake toward me and Hornskox." Thorkell continued. "She put a hand on my shoulder and handed me my first pokeball. That was the day I realized everything I knew about these dangerous monsters was all wrong. Since than I have worked with pokemon and quit hunting or fearing them. About a year before Revna was born this mighty creature passed away of old age."
"So how long did it take for everyone to change there mind about pokemon?" Wesley asks.
"Unfortunatly the Vahalla region is the only region at the moment who have embraced working with pokemon. Soon enough it will become normal in all regions. So many people come from around midgard to see the pokemon championships so I know other regions will follow. " Thorkell says
"But some trainers still haven't exactly figured out what working WITH pokemon means." Yrsa adds
"But that is a conversation for another time. " Thorkell smiles seeing that Revna is dozing off at the table.
Yrsa smiles and stands up from the table. "Don't stay up to late tonight." She whispers as she pick up revna from her seat and carries her off to bed.
"One more question tonight Ivar before bed." Thorkell says. "Anything else I can answer for you?"
"Well, what was that pokemon you were looking for?" Wesley asks quietly.
Thorkell grins. "It's name was Dredrir. It's a very rare and very dangerous Pokémon. Long ago there was a puppy pokemon called Pupilore, you may run into a few on your journey here. It is belived that this Pupilore lived a very rough life dealing with starvation, abuse from other pokemon in the wild and than it got caught in a man made trap. When it was found in the trap it was taken and abused even more by the men who found him. Until one night under a blood moon that pupilore evolved. Normally Pupinlore evolve into Wolfenore a very dedicated warrior pokemon with soft white and grey fur. They stands on two legs and have a soft and bushy but very strong tail. It holds a spear in one hand and delivers devastating fighting type attacks. Wolfenore are honestly a trainers best friend. But that wasnt the case for this poor Pupinlore. Because of the terrible abuse it had taken over the years that Pupinlore's anger caused it to evolve into an enormous four legged black as night monster. It had shackles on all four legs and around its neck with long broken chains attatched. It's eyes were as red as the blood moon and it showed no remorse for anyone. Dredrir went on a rampage leaving injured men, women and pokemon in its path. Many children went missing never to be heard from again. No one is 100% certain on why Pupinlore evolved into such a monster but that is the story that has gone around. Anyone that would know the reason... is no longer around. The only thing that is for certain is Dredrir is the only pokemon I know of that would be classified as unforgiving, undeniable pure evil."
Wesley sits silently thinking to himself astonished that there could ever be a pokemon classified as evil. Even the strongest and darkest pokemon at home had good in them, especially with a good trainer. The idea of a pokemon going on a deadly rampage hurting pokemon and people alike sent a chill throughout Wesley's body.
"But," Thorkell continues "You won't need to worry about that. There hasn't been a Dredrir siting in years. In fact there are many places that take in pupinlore. They feed them, play with them and even find good trainers for them to make sure they never evolve into another Dredrir.
This is probably not the best way to end our night but it's getting late and we have a heard to thin tomorrow."
Wesley smiles "Understand sir. It has been a long day. Hopfully Delsey will return tomorrow and we can figure out what is next. Where would you like me to sleep tonight?"
"You can sleep where ever you are comfortable Ivar. Embla found by the fire was best. It does cool down at night." Thorkell tells Wesley as he stands from his seat. Thorkell makes his way to the sleep corner of the long house while Wesley and Elekid lay down by the fire near the egg and they slowly fall asleep.
