"Now broadcasting, the Kanto region Elite Four challenge!" The television blared with excitement, captivating a young boy in a small room who was intently watching the event.
"The challenger, from the Ninja House of Fuchsia City, the expert of Poison-type Pokémon, Mr. Koga!" The announcer spoke as a middle-aged man with deep blue hair, dressed in ninja attire, emerged from the passage.
This was taking place at the Kanto League headquarters, located in the Indigo Plateau, with the longstanding Indigo Stadium as the battleground.
"Accepting the challenge is one of the current Elite Four, the master of Ghost-types, Lady Agatha!" As the camera panned, the boy saw an elderly woman with ash-blonde hair holding a wooden cane appear on the screen.
"This battle could shift the positions within the Elite Four. Who will triumph? Will Mr. Koga succeed in his challenge and become a new member of the Elite Four, or will Master Agatha successfully defend her title?"
On the battlefield, Koga and Agatha took their places at opposite ends, awaiting the referee's announcement of the rules.
"The match will follow a 6v6 full-team battle format. Both sides may switch out Pokémon freely during the battle. The match ends when one side loses all their Pokémon!"
The referee held a red flag for Koga and a green one for Agatha.
The large screen above the arena displayed their portraits, with six black circles beneath each, representing their Pokémon line-up, which remained dark as the battle had yet to start.
"Please decide who will attack first!" signaled the referee.
"As the challenger, Mr. Koga, please choose," Agatha said, resting her hands on her cane and giving Koga the choice.
"Master Agatha, then I shall take the initiative," Koga said calmly, his eyes opening fully as he addressed the referee, "I choose heads."
No sooner had he spoken than a coin bearing a Magikarp on one side and a number 1 on the other was tossed into the air. It spun several times before landing smoothly to reveal the Magikarp side up—heads!
"Mr. Koga has won the first move! What Pokémon will he send out first?" exclaimed the announcer, his enthusiasm infectious even to the boy watching on TV.
"I wish it were me challenging Master Agatha!" The boy's heart raced with excitement, his legs trembling involuntarily.
"Ash, Ash...!" Just as the boy was about to see which Pokémon Koga would send out, a soft and melodious female voice came from downstairs, "It's getting late, you need to visit Professor Oak tomorrow to get your Pokémon, remember?"
Stolen story; please report.
"I know, Mom!" Ash called back loudly, his eyes never leaving the TV, "I'll go to bed right after the Elite Four challenge!"
"Aren't you worried about being late tomorrow?" his mother called out from downstairs, her voice still tender despite the volume.
"Don't worry, I won't be late!" Ash replied, focused on the TV.
At that moment, on the TV, Koga finally decided on his first Pokémon. Knowing that Poison-type moves were halved in effectiveness against Ghost-types, he had to choose wisely.
As a Poison-type expert, most of Koga's Pokémon were of the Poison-type, some with Bug attributes as well, both disadvantaged against Ghost-types.
"Crobat, I choose you for the first battle!" Koga threw his Pokéball, sending out Crobat.
Crobat, a purple-bodied Pokémon, was the final evolution of Zubat and Golbat, with legs evolved into wings for increased speed!
As Crobat appeared on the screen, data visible only to Ash immediately materialized in front of him, detailing the information about this particular Crobat.
Crobat
Type: Poison/Flying
Category: Bat Pokémon
Ability: Inner Focus; Hidden Ability: Infiltrator.
Inner Focus: Prevents the Pokémon from flinching.
Level: Elite Four
"Not to be underestimated, a challenger for the Elite Four with Pokémon all at Elite Four level!" The boy watched the Crobat with fervent admiration, wishing he could possess such powerful Pokémon himself.
"Crobat, huh..." Agatha smiled calmly upon seeing Koga's choice and pulled a Pokéball from her apron. "Go, Gengar!"
Gengar emerged, its round body a deep purple hue, with stubby limbs and a short, pointed tail. Beneath its red eyes was a sinister smile, giving it an unmistakably malevolent appearance.
As Gengar appeared, the boy saw data on this particular Gengar flash before his eyes.
Gengar
Type: Ghost/Poison
Category: Shadow Pokémon
Ability: Cursed Body
Cursed Body: When this Pokémon is hit by an attack, there is a chance that the attacker will be immobilized by a curse.
Level: Champion
"A Champion level Gengar!" The boy's eyes widened in shock, unable to believe that Agatha, an Elite Four member, had such a Pokémon. "How is that possible? Isn't she just an Elite Four member?"
Then, a realization dawned on him. Who said Elite Four members couldn't own Champion-level Pokémon? Given Agatha's vast experience and age, it was perfectly feasible that her Pokémon were beyond mere Elite Four level.
"The match begins!" While the boy was lost in thought, the TV referee, seeing that both sides were ready, declared the start of the match.
"Crobat, use Confuse Ray!" Having the first move, Koga wasted no time in initiating his attack, ordering Crobat to cast Confuse Ray to disrupt his opponent's actions.
Confuse Ray: A Ghost-type move that causes the affected Pokémon to become confused.
Crobat's eyes flashed as a strange orb of light gathered in front of it. In the next moment, the orb transformed into a beam that shot rapidly toward Gengar.
"So fast!" The boy regained his composure as the match began, and was immediately astounded by the speed of Crobat's Confuse Ray.
However...
"Seems your Crobat hasn't practiced Confuse Ray enough; it's too slow!" Agatha's face, weathered by time, cracked a composed smile. "Gengar, dodge the Confuse Ray and use Mean Look!"
"Geng..." With a sinister chuckle, Gengar agilely turned and narrowly dodged the Confuse Ray, then its red eyes widened, and around Crobat appeared multiple eerie eyes!
Mean Look: A Normal-type move that prevents the targeted Pokémon from escaping battle.
This meant that Crobat, now affected by Mean Look, was unable to leave the battlefield until it was incapacitated!
