Making Peace with Reality

Aiden woke up sweating. He had a dream where he was raising an army of the dead, and marching his way through the cities and town, killing people right and left. It packed every emotion he harbored in his ten years of prison. He always wanted to kill all the politicians and those fuckers who sided with them.

Rising from his bed, he peered at the ethereal moon in the sky through the window on the north side wall. The moon appeared otherworldly, yet identical to the one he'd gazed upon back home on Earth.

He sighed and took a swig from the water glass on the nearby wooden table.. The cold water rushed down his parched mouth and eased his mood a little.

System: The host is losing health. The system is in reconfiguring mode, so unable to display the entire message.

Ignoring the message, he walked to the window and gazed out, losing himself in the water as if it were his favorite wine. The cold air improved his mood as he reflected on the dream.

Yes, he wanted to be a necromancer at first and it was might be because of the anger and rage suppressed deep inside his heart from his years in the prison. It was a shit hole, and it changed him to worse. At the end of the term, he was almost like those criminals. More than anything else, he thought about escaping and murdering all the politicians in the last city of the earth.

However, after coming here, and living a normal life, which he used to miss, his killing thoughts made little sense. He was thirst into a world with a body which had a normal life, and as the memories he could access for now, the guy had a terrific life. He was like a saint of this world. He treated poor people, helped others without asking for return and worked as a Head Alchemist in a sect. It was a big thing.

Rubbing his face, he pushed his fingers through his dry hairs. Maybe he should just focus on living life, enjoying it to the fullest, and maybe make this man, old man Li, into a handsome hunk. After all, as per the old man Li's memories, he would be living at least four hundred years with his Marrow Cleansing Realm cultivation base.

It was better to live a peaceful life.

"Master, you are awake already." Delia tapped on the door before stepping inside. She set down the tray she had carried in and ignited a candle in the corner. It was a fragrant one, and a trace of lilies drifted through the space along with the soft yellow glow of the flame.

"I brought your potion." She picked up the tray. She was wearing a blue robe today, and a lock of her hair rested around her tired-looking eyes.

"Sorry for waking you up. Go back. I'm fine."

"Please, master." Delia teared up. "Beat me, but never say sorry to your servant."

Aiden arched his brows. He was going to refuse it, but then he realized he was in another world, a world where people called their wives as sister. It was a bizarre thing, but this was what it was, and to live in this world, he had to accept it.

"Whatever. What time is it?"

"Five in the morning, master. It will brighten up in a few minutes," Delia answered.

The sunlight crept over the horizon, as if the sun had been waiting for Delia's words. The sky filled with the warm glow of morning, and the moon gradually faded away, solidifying Aiden't resolve to live a peaceful normal life. So, for the next ten minutes, he stood there, basking in the new light.

"Master, please drink this now." In the bright light coming from the large window, she looked at him obediently, but he sensed unease under her gaze.

The smell of the liquid she brought in the ceramic cup irritated him, so he stepped aside and gazed at the bustling city. Even early in the morning, people were moving around. It was a far cry from the dark, dreary lair he had envisioned ruling over as a necromancer.

"This place, with its bright sunlight and towering pagodas, felt almost...foreign."

"Foreign, master, what are you saying? You lived here for last ten years."

"I don't want that. Just take that back." He ushered her out of the room, but she stood there, and she won't budge until he drank that horrific gooey green liquid.

Sighing out loud, he moved toward the body length mirror hanging in the corner of the room to stare at his equally foreign forty-year-old chubby look. He looked like a fucking uncle, with stomach protruding like an Asian living on burger and pizza for his whole adult life. If he wanted to live a peaceful life he had to work on this dad-bod first. A proper weight training five days and a strict diet would solve the issue in a few months only.

"Do you have weight in this house?" He flexed his biceps under his own robe, but it was non-existence.

"Weights, master? Please forgive me, master, but I don't understand what you want."

"Tell me, is this how an alchemist is supposed to look?" He twirled to check on his proportions. Old man Li was a damn alchemist, like a scientist from his time. Couldn't this old man Li invent a fat-burner or something like that?

"Master, what are you saying? You look good. What's the matter, please tell this little servant and I'll try to solve it."

"I must at least weight three fifty pounds, don't I?" he asked before turning to Delia, who had an expression of panic on her face.

"Can't you get me something decent? I don't need that green potion." He wished that the green liquid was tea. It smelled nothing like anything decent. It smelled like rotten fruit, and if not for the richness of his clothes, and the room itself, he would have wondered if he was inside a prison, drinking poison.

"Go back, I don't want it." He once again ushered her away. "If you stay here any longer, I might just kill you." He stepped close to her, putting mental pressure on her.

"Master, your last year's weight was four hundred and ten pounds, but you lost the weight in your disease, and I think you look fantastic in your lost weight," she said, ignoring his threat.

"You are lying because you don't want to insult your master." He pushed a stray strand of hair back behind his ears. If he didn't lack confidence in his own powers, he might have just kicked this girl by himself, and stopped the torture of drinking some shit as medicine. However, he wasn't a villain and she was his, old man Li's loyal servant.

"Tell me, how ugly do I look?"

The young girl's gaze lingered on Aiden through the mirror, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of fear and fascination. "Master, I live only to serve you," she said, her voice trembling. Aiden couldn't help but wonder if there was more to her submission than met the eye.

"You call this fantastic?" Aiden rubbed the chubby nose stuck on the old wrinkled face, and he had an urge to pull out the gray beard that had grown toward every corner of the room. And the long hairs. They were like an old mop which only knew how to come in his way.

"Forgive me, master, but this lowly servant always finds you attractive and is ready to do anything for you."

Aiden chuckled as he stepped close to the girl. So close that he could kiss her if he wanted to.

"What is your age?" He played with her hair with his pale fingers. Despite looking rough, they felt smooth to his skin.

"Fifteen." She took a step back. "But I'm yours to use, master," she said, hesitation leaking in her voice.

"You're too young to do anything to you, " he said, taking the wooden tray from her hand and ushering her out of the room.

"She is ripe and of age, elder Li." A bulky man walked in without knocking on the door. "If you wish a more suitable mate, I can arrange some from my clans. Just say the words, and I'll send ten beautiful maids for you."

Aiden took in the man with his clear vision. As per old man Li's memories, which Aiden inherited along with the body, this guy was an elder in the White Sun Sect of the Three Finger Province. A well-known sect in the surrounding area. It reminded him again - he was a big shot and there was zero incentive to give up on this high position.

"Elder Wuji, what bring you here?" Aiden cupped his hand as per old man Li's memories and bowed slightly. This elder Wuji was one of the powerful cultivator of the sect, and he could kill old man Li if he wanted to.

"You flatten me, elder Li. Of course, I have to come to check on the head alchemist of our sect. I would be a sinner if I didn't." He bowed back, a little more than required.

Yes, he had to ride on this curtail and reach a new height. Head alchemist was really an important position in this world.

"You flatten me too, elder Wuji. Tell me what can I do for you? A tea perhaps?" He clapped and the same young girl walked in. "Delia, bring the finest tea for the elder Wuji."

"Elder Li is as generous as I've heard. You're offering me your finest alchemy tea."

Aiden chuckled lightly. Indeed, the elder Li was a good-hearted person. He did all the biddings for others and yet died. How did he die though?

Suddenly a memory triggered in his mind and he realized why this elder was here. Old man Li suffered from a disease called as Hundred Curse Disease, and elder Wuji's daughter also suffered from the same disease. So, this elder was here for the cure.

"I'm just acting as my predecessor did," Aiden said.

"You are too humble, elder Li." Elder Wuji smiled, his yellow teeth matching the bright yellow of the sunlight pouring from the window on the north wall.

"I know you came to ask me how I survived the Hundred Curse Disease," Aiden said in a smug tone. This elder wasn't here to well wish old man Li but for his own reasons. What a bastard.

"What would you take to cure my daughter, elder Li." Elder Wuji got on his knees, his face twitching in humiliation.

Aiden wondered if this was the first time this man begged to someone, but he didn't care. Even Aiden wanted to help this man, he couldn't as he didn't know the solution to the curse. Maybe there was no cure at all. Aiden's soul was a cure, and he couldn't possess a woman, and why would he even do that?

"Elder Wuji, I can't help you."

"Elder Li, please help me once and I'll owe you a favor for a lifetime. Even if you want me to go through fire and lighting, I'd go through it."

"Elder Wuji, I can't help you." Aiden shook his head.

"Speak your price, elder Li. I will do anything." Elder Wuji clubbed his arms together in a pitiful state.

"I said I can't help you. Don't you understand me, old man?" Aiden almost shouted, irritated by the old man's begging.

"Elder Li, you're going overboard." Elder Wuji rose, emanating an invisible force. The bare furniture in the room groaned, and the glass on the wooden tray trembled fiercely, spilling the vile green liquid from within. Aiden was glad that he didn't have to drink the shitty potion.

However, the joy vanished as soon as it came. The pressure from Elder Wuji's energy settled on him, weighing him down as if someone had placed a two hundred pound weight on his shoulder. This old Li's body was really trash, and it buckled under the pressure.

"Elder Wuji, I can also project my power like that." A tall man with a long mustache walked in, his invisible energy colliding with the elder Wuji's. The room trembled as if an earthquake had struck, and the furniture cracked while the wooden tray broke into pieces.

"Elder Mani, don't provoke me. You are no match for me." Elder Wuji bellowed, causing a crack to spread through the stone wall. The entire building shook, and Aiden feared it would collapse and he would die once more.

Fuck! What was wrong with these two?

"Elder Wuji, what if I've got this artifact from the sect master?" A wooden awl appeared in elder Mani's hand and elder Wuji seemed surprised, but he didn't lessen his pressure at all, and it only increased, some spilling over Aiden's body.

To his surprise, old man Li's, and now his own body, didn't completely break under two different pressures. In fact, it seemed to adjust a little. Was this because he too had a similar cultivation base like these two people? Marrow Cleansing Realm cultivation base.

Aiden pondered the implications of his Marrow Cleansing Realm cultivation base. It solidified his own motivation. There was no need to kill others when he could enjoy the power of his cultivation base in the sect.

A peaceful life was the best.

A chuckle slipped out of his mouth unintentionally. This was for the best. As long as he continued living as Heal Alchemist Li, he would have a prosperous life ahead.
