Cost of Being Good

A colossal serpent, its scales shimmering like polished obsidian in the crimson glow, coiled menacingly in the far corner of the small room. Its eyes, cold and unblinking, fixated on its prey. At the opposite end, Lan Yueya huddled against the wall, her tiny frame curled tightly into a fetal position. Her once confidant figure had turned into a shriveled, smaller version of herself. Her thin red lips, usually quick to tease, now quivered in silent terror as she shook uncontrollably, resembling a helpless kitten caught in a sudden downpour, her fear palpable in the oppressive atmosphere of the room.

"Fuck off," the serpent hissed in Mi Tha's voice. "Or you will die like her."

Aiden's reply remained in his mouth as he spotted Pijia rushing toward Lan Yueya. He could stop him, but he didn't move. He had a gut feeling that it would help Lan Yueya to resist the giant serpent.

Aiden leaped back, moving away from the swordsman Chang. Chang spat on the ground charging at him, the intense smell of his clothes wafting over the air, and Aiden realized this guy hadn't taken a bath in days for the least.

Fuck! He won't get his hands dirty on this man for sure. However, first he had to fix the situation with Lan Yueya, and then he could take care of these two bastards.

"Sister Lan, wake up. I'm with you." Aiden stepped next to the small Lan Yueya and grabbed her arm.

"Go away," Mi Tha roared, her tail smashig towards him.

Aiden lifted his hand, and mana surged from within him, shaping into a barrier before his body. The strike glanced off harmlessly.

Somehow, Aiden sensed he could use his mana to do anything in this space. This was the power of Soul Teether.

Lan Yueya grasped his hand and stood up. Her eyes lit up as she looked at him. Her attitude changed, and she looked radiant. Puffing her flat chest forward, she stepped next to him and waved at the serpent.

"Can you talk, sister Lan?"

"You fool. She is an infant. Go back and let me eat her. If you go back, I'll give you riches of the world. I'll tell you the Ten Temperaments of the Underworld and once you master them, you can rule this mortal world. Just fuck off and everything will be yours."

"Shut up, bitch." Aiden sent his mana toward the serpent and sealed her mouth. He could sense the serpent was getting weaker every second, and he could use this to his advantage.

Aiden scanned Lan Yueya, and she kept looking at him like a fool. It seemed like she understood nothing, and he would get no response from her. Why was it like this?

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Whatever was the case, she recognized him and it was enough for him to defeat Mi Tha.

"Sister Lan, this is your world. If you want, you can kill that monster." Aiden pointed at the serpent.

"Aiden, you are fucking going back on your words. You promised me you would let me possess her."

"I promised you to get yourself into her consciousness, but you want to gulp her down, which I won't let you do. This wasn't our deal, and I won't let you take over her," Aiden replied calmly.

"You don't even want to fuck her, then why are you doing this?"

"Because I hate cheaters." Aiden wrapped his mana around the serpent and tied her up. "Sister Lan, eat her. You can do it." He patted Lan Yueya's back, and she walked toward Mi Tha.

"Fuck you Aiden." Mi Tha changed into a woman's form and tried to get out of the small place, but Aiden used his mana to tie her once more and stopped her from making any move.

"What the fuck are you doing now?" Mi Tha cried out loud when Lan Yueya clawed a portion of her shoulder and gulped it down. Mi Tha's body part scattered in the motes of light and entered Lan Yueya's mouth and her body grew as she ate on the energy.

"I never thought that would work." Aiden chuckled. He was thinking how to get rid of the Mi Tha, and he just suggested eating her to Lan Yueya, and it surprisingly worked. Thank god, Lan Yueya listen to his every command, and bit Mi Tha without a second thought. For her, he was a ray of hope, like a child's parents were, and he won't let her down. Not because he liked her, but because he couldn't sacrifice her to Mi Tha. And if that bitch could go back on her words at the start, what would stop her from killing him in the future?

He couldn't take that chance.

"Stop it, Aiden. This way, your quest will fail."

"Maybe it will, but I don't care for the loss of 5 stat points. I'm just making my future safe." Aiden grabbed Mi Tha's arm and yanked it out of her body and gulped it himself. If Lan Yueya could do it, then why couldn't he?

The dry, bitter flavor of what he swallowed pulsed through his belly, and a huge amount of knowledge rushed into his mind as if someone had connected a live wire to his brain.

System: You have gained some memories. They are too vast for your current cultivation level. Locking them away.

"You motherfucker. I'll haunt you and kill you." Mi Tha wailed and tried to free herself, but Aiden acted in time and sealed her once again.

"Sister Lan, she is a food, so eat to your heart's content." Aiden pointed at the sealed Mi Tha and signaled.

Lan Yueya charged at Mi Tha like a hungry cat and bit into her neck.

"I'll end you, Aiden. I'll haunt you through the underworld."

"If you survive through this, then we will see." Aiden grabbed her torso and gulped it down.

Lan Yueya gulped her legs and remaining arm, growing larger than the space, and the space expanded to accommodate her size.

Corpse Explosion.

A strange exhaustion washed over him and he reappeared inside his own body and suddenly a sword came to his neck, and he was too close to dodge it.

Was he going to die because of saving a woman about whom he didn't even care?

Fuck! He should have let Mi Tha eat Lan Yueya instead and saved his own life, but he was helpless now.

Damn it. A single act of goodness had cost him life once more. If he survived this, he would never try to be a good man again. Never ever.
