Death Squirrel

The little abomination of teeth and nail lunged towards Mia. Screaming through the air with all it's murderous extremities outstretched. Mia, for her part, stood there a little stunned. Which was clearly a bad idea, as a moment later the death squirrel was attempting to rip her eyes out.

In a fit of panic Mia dropped down and smashed the tiny creature against the ground! Get off of me get it off! get it off! She rolled around smashing the creature against every nearby surface, but still it didn't let go! It's claws dug in like hooks in her snout, twitching and flexing with every movement. As if somebody had jabbed liquid agony right into her! Is this thing poisonous?! Argh get off!

The Squirrel was clearly dazed, only managing to hang because of it's claws as deep into Mia's face as they were. Mia jumped off the ground with a start, and began charging. She couldn't see where she was going. But she didn't care either. She just wanted to hit something, anything. Get off of me you little shit!

CRUNCH

Whatever she ran into, it hurt, and a lot. But it most certainly hurt more for the squirrel that was acting as a buffer between her and the object. She felt blood running down her face but she didn't care. With a fierce thrash of her head she finally managed to dislodge the squirrel, sending it flying into the air. It sailed clumsily through the air before smashing into the ground.

Stupid god damn animal! Mia snarled and prowled towards the downed monster. Blood streamed down from her face, a thin line of the crimson liquid following in her wake. As the squirrel shambled to it's feet, it weakly screeched at Mia again. And Mia answered in kind, by crushing it in her jaws.

She collapsed in a daze after delivering the killing blow, the adrenaline that suffocated her thoughts fading away. Leaving only a panicked mess in it's wake. She shivered on the ground, panting in heaving breaths, and her mouth went slack. The body of the squirrel fell out, mangled and broken.

She laid there for a good long while, just breathing in and out. Before she managed to get some strength in her legs and stand up. Her inner monologue which had gone silent began to pick back up as her thoughts returned to her.

First thought, ow. Second thought, screw that little shit, third thought, level up! I honestly didn't expect to level from one kill but I will take it. My face hurts less now too. Maybe that's the extra constitution?

Then something else registered on Mia's brain. A tantalizing scent that seemed to draw her in subconsciously. Her feet were drifting towards it without even thinking about it!

Mia shook her head wildly and turned away, if she was to go it certainly wouldn't be like that, head first without thinking. She had no desire for a repeat of her prior fight. Speaking of the fight though...

I am hungry... surely it wouldn't be that bad, right? I mean the alternative is starving...

Mia hesitantly leaned down and bit the body of the squirrel. Poking her teeth into its hide she felt soft flesh give way under the squeezing pressure of her fangs.

Tastes like... Nothing. What do I just not have taste buds?

She took another bite. Still nothing... Well that's a bit... Disappointing. But I guess it's better then the alternative? Would I rather be able to taste the raw dead body or not taste at all? I mean I do hope to not have to live in the forest one day... Actually does civilized life exist at all? I don't think I'm on earth, or anywhere similar for that matter. If the levels didn't prove that, the murder rodent definitely did.

Well, nothing for it. She bit into the squirrel again with a bit more gusto. Taking a chunk out of it. Crunchy, must be the bones. Chew em good, don't want any internal bleedin-
