Speedster ran at him, slowed by the warping time and space. With one last wave, Levi leaped through the Gate. He held his breath.
Nothing. Oblivion. Darkness.
Is this death? It’s not as painful as I expect—
Pain. Every single limb, every single atom, screamed out in pain. Not one to resist the call of nature, Levi screamed along with them.
“Shush! The guards will come! They’ll kill an otherworlder like you. Stay quiet!”

Levi frowned, so startled that he forgot to scream. “Otherworlder?”
A face appeared in his vision. Beautiful eyes. Cream-pale skin. Knife-sharp, long ears.
Levi squinted. “A…cosplayer?”
“What did you call me?” the woman asked, taken aback.
He reached up and squeezed her ear.
She squealed and jerked away. “What the fuck?”
His eyes widened, and he looked at his hand, rubbing his fingers together. Warm. It’s warm. Real. He looked around him, squinting through the pain.
A simple hut with an open-beam roof. Herbs, drying from the rafters. A bed made of straw, and a fire smoking in the chimney. “No way. Is this—on the other side of the Gate?”
The elf laughed. “Took you long enough!”
Levi stared at the roof, then giggled. He hugged himself, rolling around on the bed, all his pain forgotten. “Holy fuck. I’m in another world!”
