New Escape Chapter Two

New Escape Chapter Two

"You don't know where you are? Oh! You must be new here." The younger woman seems to respond kindly to my suddenness. "We are currently in Rodenheim City, one of the border cities of the human kingdom of Braxxis. I'm not entirely knowledgeable about surrounding geography as I have lived here my whole life, so it would probably be best to talk with someone from the Merchant's Guild, or the Adventurer's Guild."

"Oh thank you, where is the Adventurer's Guild located?" An adventurer's guild is the main part of a lot of stories, this surely must be the path to go!

"Ah yes the adventurer's guild is in the southern district with a sign that looks like a map on the front." After pointing me towards the correct direction she heads off on her own.

Ahh these NPCs feel incredibly real, I almost mistook her for a player.

After a few minutes of wandering the "town" I find the adventurer's guild.

The size is many times larger than the shacks in the area, but compared to the image in my head I am distinctly disappointed.

"This place is practically just a bar!" I hardly stiffle a shout while pushing the splintering wooden door inward. Rather than a guild this place seriously just looks like a bar if one ignores the requests nailed into the wall.

Before I even make my way through the door I am greeted by a number of harsh stares. If you all stare like that I might just run away you know.

"What can I do for ya'?" An older man behind the bar greets me in a calm but deep voice.

"Sorry, I'm new around here and want to get a grasp on the surroundings." I initially intended to speak politely, but all these stares are making me uncomfortable.

"Maps aren't free." The middle aged man moves his beard out of the way before reaching down under the counter, pulling up a stained map.

"I- I don't have any money."

"Then how do you expect to get my map? Go complete a request and I'll let you use my map." With a swift movement the map is returned and the man gives me a harsh glare.

"Okay, I will complete a request and come back I guess."

With such a weird encounter I decide to follow through and quickly scan through the requests.

Lost cat, stolen jewelry, extermination…

This is such a waste of time!

I randomly grab a paper off the wall and run out of the guild.

"Malek! GET OUT HERE!" A few moments wandering from the guild a harsh yell comes from down the street.

The man yelling was a rather burly dwarf with long brown hair and beard. His stone like fists rap against the shabby door.

Shortly after an explosion of smoke filled the entire street. It seemed to originate from the house the dwarf was in front of.

Directly after the explosion a hooded figure burst from the shabby door hacking up a lung.

"I told you not to distract me while I am working." A quiet yet evil sounding voice emerged from under the figure's hood.

"And I told you, Malek, to keep yourself available today. You put up that request we need to see if anyone accepted it." Following his angry outburst the dwarf yanks the robed figure and pulls them down the street.

Hmm? What a bunch of weirdos.

After evading those rather peculiar people I inspect the request slip that I took off of the wall.

"Pick twenty blue star herbs found south of the town." Picking herbs? It's the legendary picking herbs!

Before I even managed to leave town I was greeted by some rather unsavory individuals.

"Hey brat, you thought you could waltz into our town and steal the requests? Haha as if, we're gonna send you packing." One of the two men was bald with a scar over his left eye, the other man had long unruly hair.

"Pardon me, but if you wanted the request you should've just taken it. I don't know what that has to do with me." I must meet arrogance with arrogance, this is the path of an unmatched ruler!

"Huuh? Don't get cocky brat!" Within a moment the man's fist was upon.

Ahh I need to dodge.

But I failed, his fist landed on my chest knocking me on my butt.

"Haha, you thought you could act cocky with me brat? As if!"

"That hurt!" Oh wait, that did not hurt at all, but I feel like its harder to move now.

While rubbing butt I hear the sound of scrapping foot steps behind me.

"Now now, is that anyway to treat someone who took on a request of mine?" A familiar sounding voice seems to frighten the two rookie crushers.

"M-Malek we d-didn't know this kid had something to do with you. W-we will leave immediately." With that the two men darted away.

Turning my head I see a hooded figure clad in a dark black robe.

"Keke, you're pretty brave facing off against those two as weak as you are."

"Thank you for helping me uhh, Malek?" I give my genuine thanks while giving a confused look.

"Of course, of course, but I didn't do it without cause." I cannot help but to imagine a wicked grin under that hood.

"Hha- ha- what is it that you needed from me?"

"That is to be my test sub- I mean…my disciple of course."

"Ahh just that? If that's the case then of course I'll become your disciple. You were strong enough to scare those thugs off at the very least."

"Okay, well come with me to my home then."

"Your home? I thought that blew up." I give him a rather confused look

"No, no of course not, that was simply my err- my lab! Yes that was my lab where I test various ummm... potions! Yes, potions."

"I see" I throw a skeptical glance his direction but he seems to ignore it.

Leading the way, Malek walks through the streets slightly hunched over. I must have seen over half the town with how small it appears. After a short tour we finally reach a fairly well sized home which must be Malek's home.

It looks much better compared to the houses in the surrounding, like Malek's house was built with strong wood and was properly painted once. Clearly much better than the rotten wood of the other houses.

Now that we have arrived I assumed Malek would begin teaching me right away, but instead he heads right to his bedroom and plops down on the bed.

"Sorry, but I haven't slept for a few days, make yourself at home." he falls asleep after telling me to do what I want.

Well if he's been up for days then I can't really blame him.

I begin looking around his house. While it is only one story, the ceiling is high enough for it to be about one and a half stories. There also appears to be a basement. Opening the door to the basement I begin walking down the creaking stairs, I wonder what will be down here.

Reaching the final step, some sort of magic activates the lights hanging from the ceiling. That's truly convenient I think to myself. Once all the lights are on I gaze in amazement. This basement must take up the underground of the other houses around it. This is about three times the size of the upstairs or more. Lining each wall were bookcases filled to the brim with books. In the center of the basement was a relatively large table covered in books and loose paper.

Its no wonder he does his experiments elsewhere, if something exploded down here thousands of books could be damaged.

Walking over to the nearest bookshelf I grab a brown leather-bound book and open it up to the first page.

"The Last Teachings of the Silver Prince" I wonder what it is about, but skimming through the book leads to utter confusion; none of the phrases make any sense to me.

Returning the book to it's place I reach for another book "Advanced Alchemical teachings" again skimming through the book brings me confusion. Now that I think about it, maybe it requires some sort of intelligence or Wisdom Stat. Hmmm, I never asked how to open the menu.

"Status" Doing the most obvious thing I shout out a command hoping it will register.

*Ding* <>

Name:Magia CorvusClass:NoneRace:HumanLevel:1HP:100MP:50WIS:8STR:4INT:7VIT:6*Passive* [Cute Restoration]: Cute and interesting people restore negative status effects.

"Why are all these stats unbalanced? Could it be that since I intended to be a magic user it focused on that? Or is just random?" I begin to question why my stats are unbalanced but then I notice the passive skill.

"What the hell is that 'cute restoration'? I know I have this skill in real life, but why did it appear in the game? Well, it only rarely ever activates in real life so it's probably useless in the game."

"Not only that, but what's with my race? I chose demigod but it appears as human. I knew such an overpowered option was too good to be true.

Closing the menu I head back up the stairs. I won't be able to get much out of this library on my own.
