Shaking the heavy coin purse I put it in my bag and head back to the clothing store. Pushing the door open the small bell rings out again.
"Hello, I've returned!" I wave to the young man who's bored expression brightens again.
"Ah welcome back, are you here for the robe?"
"Yep, I've got the gold." Pulling the gold back out I wave it in the air.
"Oh good, while you were good I did the enchantments on the robe so you can buy it right now." A proud look appears on his face while he holds up the robe.
"That's great, thanks a bunch!" I take out two thirds of my gold and place it on the table. After which the young man hands over the robe. "Is there anywhere where I can try it on?"
"Of course." The brown haired youth points towards a small changing booth in the corner of the room with a curtain to block any view.
I enter the small booth and stare at the robe. looking at the front I pull it apart and then when the two parts are near each other they seem to reconnect. 'I guess I put it on like this'. I pull open the front and stick my legs through into the bottom, after which I put my arm through each sleeve then the front closes up. I straighten the cloth and exit the booth.
"This feels great, I don't think I'll be needing these anymore." I hand over my worn out old robes and have him dispose of them, they are worth a few dozen gold at most. "What kind of enchantments did you add to this?"
"Well I added a ward to increase magic defense and the circuits on the inside can absorb magic to increase physical defense. I also added an enchantment to increase mana regeneration."
"Ooo that's incredible." To test it out I begin manipulating the air around me to use up my mana. "Ah, if I keep it light then it won't take any mana compared to the regeneration, but the amount I can control like this is quite small."
"Wait. Are you using magic right now?" The young man's eyes seem to widen as he could feel a change in the air flow.
"Why, can I not?" I give him a confused look.
"You didn't use any incantation or chant. How are you doing that?" The young man's stupefied expression brings me a little pleasure as I get to confuse him even further.
"What do you mean? Everyone can do this." I focus the air into my hand creating a visible distortion.
"HUH?! No one can do that, every magic user I've met needed some sort of spell to use magic." The young man begins to get a little angry as I am obviously messing with him now.
"Haha, you're right. This is a special skill that I have [Nature Manipulation]."
"Nature manipulation? I've never heard of it before. Where did you learn it? What all can you manipulate?" The man's questions become rather intrusive and I quickly cut him off.
"Sorry, everyone needs their secrets. However if we meet again I may reveal something to you." I exit the shop as the young man calls to stop me, but of course I ignore him.
I return to the place Maddy and I split up and wonder how long she will be. Not long after a commotion is heard further up the street. 'Please don't let that be what I think it is.' Pushing through the crowded streets is a brown haired girl followed by a number of guards.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
"What did you do?" I call to Maddy whose focus shifted to me.
"Sorry, what were you expecting when you let me go off by myself."
'Ughhh, I knew she was going to get in trouble so I only have myself to blame.'
Focusing on the ground behind her I force up the stone to form a wall between her and the guards. If there wasn't a large enough commotion then a huge wall erupting out of nowhere displacing citizens would definitely do it. Luckily no one saw me do it, as they wouldn't expect such a thing to happen without casting a spell. Gesturing towards Maddy I instruct her to drink the potion of invisibility. Just like that she vanished.
'I wonder why that potion works, her clothes and things should still be visible, but they arent'. I shake my head and enter an alley waiting for her to hopefully come and say something.
"Kah- that was fun." A bodiless voice comes from in front of me.
Looking in the direction of the voice I call out to her. "What did you do? Please tell me you didn't kill anyone out in the open."
"No I was only stealing some jewelry and a few coin purses. I almost killed this one guy who was treating others poorly, but the guards caught up to me."
"Ah well then hopefully your bounty won't go up by much, as long as they don't know your name we should be fine. Please wait here while I grab a few things to make our travelling a bit easier." I manipulate the earth to make a bench and head back to the clothing store.
"Excuse me! I am in need of a cloak." I quickly enter the store once again and get the attention of a young woman sitting behind the counter.
"Ah welcome, the cloaks are over on that side." She points to the side opposite of the robes with neatly placed cloaks stacked on top of each other.
The variety of cloaks is quite wide, while the styles are similar the colors are very different. I look through a few before finding the one I decide to get. A dark blue robe with constellations embroidered on the back. The material is similar to velvet and feels rather thick.
"I'll take this one." I place the beautiful cloak on the counter and she asks for twenty five hundred gold. "Here you are." I empty over sixty percent of my gold onto the counter and take the cloak. "Thank you, I really love your work." I bow my head to the woman and walk out.
Returning to the alleyway I find Maddy sitting calmly on the bench looking at her stolen goods. Slightly annoyed with her I toss the cloak onto her head.
"Come on, I'm not sure that will conceal your identity very well, if needed we can visit an alchemist and buy some sort of appearance changing potion." Maddy nods before putting her things away and putting on the cloak. "It looks nice."
