New Escape Chapter Thirty Two

Walking down the street towards the large city gates we hope to escape before they set up a checkpoint to catch Maddy, but it is of course too late. After witnessing the large number of guards at the gate we duck onto a side street and I take a moment to observe the situation. While the main gate is still open there are six guards comparing everyone's faces to some sort of wanted poster. I turn towards Maddy and shake my head, the chance of her being caught at the gate is too high for us to try and leave from there. We have a few options. We could teleport back to the tower, but we may not be able to return to the area with the random teleport, and if we teleport back here we will still be in the same situation. We can attempt to walk through the main gate, but these guards may catch Maddy. Of course I could try to create some distraction while she escapes, the guards won't suspect me of using magic if they don't see me using a spell.

"I am going to cause a disturbance with my magic as you try to escape out the front." I tell her the plan and she nods in agreement, but before we can head out the guards pull out their blades.

"It's Gryphus the killer of Veratha!" The guards turn their attention to the figure wearing a worn light grey hood. Before I even fully grasp the situation the people near the gate begin running away as Gryphus reaches to his back and equips his two large metal round shields. Guards in the back begin firing arrows at him, yet he easily deflects the arrows with his shields. With incredible strength Gryphus knocks away the guards nearest to him with a few slaps from his shields.

I turn towards Maddy to suggest we assist, but she has already disappeared, reappearing behind a guard and disabling him quickly with a few slashes behind the knees. 'Ughhh, I really didn't want to fight with any guards today.' I raise a complaint in my head but quickly dismiss it. I don't really wish to harm them so I will do my best to restrain them. I focus my attention on the crowd at the gate and change my sight to the ground beneath them.

With [Nature Manipulation] I shift the ground beneath them causing their legs to sink into the ground. The guards, extremely confused, try to dig themselves out to no avail. I run over and pull Maddy out of the dirt before looking towards Gryphus.

"Hey Dylan." I look at the rather large cloaked figure and then pull him out from the ground as well.

"Yooo." He wipes the dirt off of himself and we quickly run away as reinforcements arrive.

"So what were you doing here? Well rather, why the hell do you have such a high bounty?"

"Ah well, there was an old lady and she led me to these villages full of monsters- err lizards, and she told me that they were dangerous and needed to be destroyed."

"So you just slaughtered all of them?"

"Well it's a game, usually you only get quests to save the world or stuff like that."

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"I guess you have a point."

I hear a sound trailing behind us as the guards approach through the forest. We quickly leave the area and Maddy covers our tracks using her survival skills.

"Child of earth, heed my calling and grant me strength. CERES!" I call out the incantation to summon my trusty ally who fell in battle previously. The small golem erupts from the ground, only he is about two times larger than he once was. This is probably due to my training and mana enhancement from my robe allowing for more mana to be absorbed by Ceres.

"Ceres, if you will, please dig a few pitfall traps." Ceres seems fine even after being previously beaten. Let us hurry and leave, Ceres will follow after buying us some time to get away. As we travel through the forest we follow the sun as it continues across the sky. We see a few small villages on our way, but we do not stay in any of them in case the guards check for us there. By now we could have teleported to the tower except we cannot bring Dylan there at this time because Maddy and I can currently only teleport ourselves.

After a few weeks of travelling inside the game, a single week in the real world, we arrive at the river which acts as the border between the current kingdom and another. We reach the relatively large bridge which connects the two. We traveled as fast as we could, but we could travel much less than the guards could due to the fact we had to go to school. By the time we got to our goal the guards had already swarmed it and taken up a defensive formation to catch us in case we attempt to cross it.

"Ughh we've been travelling for ages yet we can't even cross. Why don't we just kill the guards?" Maddy seems extremely annoyed with how far we had to travel without horses.

"I agree, they aren't very strong." Dylan is annoyed as well, though probably not as much as Maddy.

"Listen you two, we can't just go around killing whoever annoys us. We don't know how much infamy can affect us in this game. While we can't help that you two already caused varying amounts of trouble we shouldn't let that mean we should cause more trouble." I seem to be the only voice of reason within the three of us. I really wish I could go wild like these two, if anything happens I may well do just that. "I've got a plan similar to what our first plan should have been until Dylan attacked the guards, or I've got a plan which will take even more time." I give two options to my two friends and they give a unanimous decision to take the fast way. "I am going to use the whole of my mana to disrupt the river and wash away or disrupt the guards. After that is finished we will quickly cross the bridge and enter the other kingdom, where hopefully you won't be as infamous."

"Sure sounds good!" the two agree to my plan and I begin to focus my control of the river.
