New Escape Chapter Nine

After playing around with buns for an hour or so I look towards the village about to head in that direction, but something appears out of place. Smoke. Trails of smoke spread out from the village and the worst thought comes to mind.

'Has the village been attacked? If Malek is there then I would expect the village to be safe, but maybe he's not there?'

Gripping my staff more tightly I begin running towards the village. Even though the villagers wouldn't give me a quest, they were still nice people and I wouldn't ever wish anything bad on them. 'Please, get there in time.'

Reaching the outskirts of the village I see dozens of bandits wearing dark fur clothes and carrying axes and swords.

I duck behind a building as not to be seen, I can't take on this many bandits head on.

'There are a minimum of thirty bandits attacking this town, a few of the bandits are mounted and holding spears. I can't fight them head on but I should still be able to do something.'

I whisper to Ceres who was playing with me in the field. "Ceres, you are an earth elemental, can you control earth to any extent?" I have only been using Ceres for general combat and haven't been utilizing any special skills he might possess.

Ceres nods to me and an earthen copy of him appears, though it doesn't appear to have any intelligence and is instead just a chunk of rock.

"Ah! Ceres, that's incredible!" I pat Ceres's head and ask him to dig holes underneath the ground around the larger exits around town.

'If Ceres can trap a majority of the enemies I may be able to use another summon to deal with the rest.'

Ceres burrows into the ground and I begin to summon a familiar with a chant, though I don't know that it has any effect.

"Beast of flame and fury, rise against my enemies and send them to oblivion." While not a very good chant it allows me to form a good image.

Light. Light brighter than any previous light I have ever seen forms around me. A deep red light, like the flames of hell this light grows stronger around my body then focuses around my staff. Fire. The light causes the nearby area to catch ablaze. The light projects from my staff and hits the ground, opening a gateway to a fiery dimension. A black charcoal like hand reaching from the pit is the last thing I see as my focus falls.

*Warning* Mana has reached 0, health has been drained to use this spell.

I fall backwards and lose consciousness.

--------------

A fiery demon pulls itself from it's hellish prison. Flesh burnt black like charcoal and a body resembling neither human or beast it releases a horrendous roar shaking ground even miles away. Black smoke billows out between its jagged teeth. Standing on two feet it's hunched form is nearly 30 feet tall.

Projecting fire from its mouth the village is incinerated. Any bandit still surviving is crushed by a pillar thrown by the beast. What was once a lively village is now an ashen crater, with naught but a few recognizable buildings. If one didn't know better they would assume a volcano erupted and swallowed up the area.

After finishing it's destruction the beast continues on its path of destruction through a field of flowers and rabbits, leaving nothing living in it's path.

----------

Groups of families gather in a field opposite from the now hellish wasteland that was once filled with plant life.

"Now now, everyone please calm down." A hooded figure named Malek attempts to calm down the villagers. Before the bandits attacked Malek led the villagers to the field to keep them safe. He expected Jordan to attack the bandits but never expected such a demon. "Looks like they have a lot of potential after all." Malek murmurs to himself as the villagers grow unruly.

"You knew the bandits were coming before they arrived, you must be working with them!"

"What was that demon? You brought that here didn't you?! That thing burnt down my home."

"My shop is gone now that the demon burned it down!"

"No, I had no way of knowing that such a monster would appear, and I can sense presences, I knew the bandits would be arriving so I escorted you and your families out of the village." Malek attempts to calm down the group but they refuse to listen to him.

"FINE! Whatever, I will go and look for my apprentice, you people can do whatever you want!" Malek leaves after realizing that it was futile to talk with them.

----------

Blinking my eyes I look at my body. I seem to be lying down. My body is on fire, but I don't feel it, and it isn't affecting my body.

'What happened?' I look around and see nothing but blackened earth. 'Where the hell...? Wait, is this hell?' I begin to panic as I gaze at my surroundings. The last thing I remember is seeing the village on fire from the field. The village, where is it?

A charred wooden building is the only thing sticking up from the ground. 'I-is that the village, or where the village was?' I lift myself up and head in that direction.

Ceres is no where to be seen, I hope he is doing alright.

Reaching the remnants of the village I sit down near a pile of burnt lumber and try to gather my thoughts.

"Up already?" Malek suddenly appears next to me. "I would've expected you to be out a lot longer after all that."

"All that? What happened, the last thing I remember was that the village was under attack." I try to recount what I remember to Malek.

"Hooo, that beast you summoned must have been quite powerful, to even take a toll on your memories." Malek says something rather startling nonchalantly.

"Beast, what do you mean beast? Did I cause all this destruction?"

"Hmmm, well yes I guess you did, don't worry though I escorted the villagers to safety." Malek tries to calm me down to no avail.

"How could I have possibly summoned something strong enough to do this much destruction?"

"With some spells the user is able to sacrifice their own life force to replace mana. If one does not have enough mana to complete the spell their health can be taken instead. Most likely you did this subconsciously after picturing such an insane monster in your mind."

"Picturing? How on earth did what I picture have any relevance to what I summon?" I try to grasp some sort of understanding on what happened.

"Well, your spells aren't necessarily based on standard magic tomes and the regular sequence one must go through, you cast magic based on the nature of magic itself, this nature is molded by your thoughts. The stronger your imagination the more powerful the magic you can use."

"So me wanting to summon a monster strong enough to fight off the bandits led to an insanely overpowered demon beast?"

"Yeah, guess so."

"You guess so… well it looks like I still have a lot to learn about my own powers."

"Before you start learning any more, we are gonna have to destroy that beast. The fact that you were unconscious yet it continued fighting means it is uncontrollable, it will need to be forcibly released."
