New Escape Chapter Twenty Eight

New Escape Chapter Twenty Eight

"Oh sweet! You two are my daggers?" Maddy seems completely interested in the two daggers and their personalities.

"Yes, we can be considered a part of these weapons. We would like to inform you though that our power can only be shown when we are in close proximity to each other. While we do possess personality the strength of these daggers is not particularly spectacular. However we are able to eat the souls of those that you kill and increase our strength and enhance the daggers with these souls."

"Ah so you are growth weapons?" I chime in on the conversation. Growth weapons are extremely rare in games and are exactly what they sound like. While they may begin rather weak growth weapons are exceptional as they grow with the wielder, meaning there is no need to look for stronger and stronger weapons.

"Yes we may be considered that. While we are not the daggers ourselves we are the personalities of the daggers, you may consider us the dagger if you wish, or you may not." Rather than the two both talking the majority of the speaking is done by Lin in a rather monotone voice.

"That's amazing! I guess this treasure is pretty good." Maddy walks behind me with a content smile on her face with not much interest in the rest of the treasure.

"I guess it's my turn then." I take another step forward before calling Orz.

"Display Items: Blood Sabre, Heaven's Respite, Sigil of the Crestfallen, and Norad's Queen Crystal."

"As you wish." Orz' voice spreads through the room as the four items appear before me.

Hovering in front of me is a blood red curved blade with a rather menacing design. The blade is in the shape of a scimitar with short shard points sticking out from the back. I grip the item and observe it.

"Ah this isn't nearly as useful to me as I hoped. I am not even sure I can learn proper healing abilities so I will return this to you Orz." I toss the necklace into the air and it vanishes into a small vortex. Returning my sight to the hovering items I grab a pale blue crystal and inspect it.

I toss the crystal the same way as the necklace and it is absorbed again by the tower. Last but not least I reach my hand towards the stone with a strange engraving on it. The simple marking sends a chill down my spine and a sense of dread washes over me. Wrapping my hands around it I inspect it.

After reading the warning I begin to cough vigorously. Maddy looks at me rather worriedly.

"What's wrong? What kind of item is it?"

"It's a quest item, for an SS Rank quest..."

"SS RANK?! The quest I had to help the village was only rank C due to it affecting the whole village."

"I am not sure we should take this quest, it says the recommended levels are atleast 200..." I am completely startled at the level of the quest and what kind of strength would be required to complete it.

"Don't be a child. Accepting the quest does not mean it will need to be completed instantly." A cold voice comes from Maddy's hands, Wes voices his opinion on the quest. "You can train your strength and your forces before taking on the Crestfallen."

"I see I guess I understand your point." I look towards the menu floating ahead of me. "Yes, we accept the quest." As Maddy and I are in a party the quest is shared between us, the shadowbirds cannot join our party but are instead considered part of our private army and instantly acquire the quest as well.

"Well I guess it would be best to prepare, but first let's see what is stored in the treasury." I look towards Maddy and point up gesturing to the next floor. Even though she was so ecstatic to find treasure she seems content with her new daggers and moves much slower than she did before.

We sluggishly move up the set of stairs towards the treasury, this little tour of the tower has been much more tiring than it should of been.

I move to the front of the group and push open the door to the treasury. I open the door excitedly but am instantly disappointed by the distinct lack of any gold or gems. All that can be seen in the room is a small note in the center of the floor. I bend down and read what the faded words scrawled on the paper say.

"Dear Vorth and friends, since you all have left to subjugate the Crestfallen it has been two years. Without word from you I have grown worried about the state of the outside world. I will be locking the tower back up and moving to the outside world to assist the weaker nations. If you read this please understand that I took all the gold stored here to further our campaign. While I am upset that it has come to this please find me if you return. -Sincerely your ally Almori."
