Strategizing

Jain's footsteps left an echoe as they traveled to the dungeon boss's chamber.

He could feel the burning gaze from Vin towards him , his eyes full of curiosity and undoubtedly so many questions for Jain.

Jain himself wasn't sure if he could answer all of them or even one of them infact.

But he did know that most of them would be regarding his new found strength or rather power.

He himself didn't know what it is or how it functioned but he did know it was there , he could feel it with every cell of his body - feel it's might and effect upon him.

The power had suddenly arrived when Jain was at the brink of completely hopelessness like a gift straight out of heaven. It was because of this unexpected factor - the power , that Vin and him managed to last a little longer in this crazy dungeon.

In honesty ,Jain wasn't sure if he had the power to take on the dungeon boss by himself but he had to because of his promise , Jain wasn't the type of guy to back out from his promises and besides , Jain had this compelling feeling inside him which urged that he help Vin , a person who was in need.

Immediately after Jain had got his power ; he had gazed at Misha and Barbra's bodies instinctively and noticed that a strange purple mist was surrounding them , it definitely wasn't there before he gained his strange power and Vin didn't seem to notice it which meant that he could only see it mostly because of his attained power.

The mist seemed to be growing wider and wider by a centimetre per 2 minutes which also meant that it was being influenced by some external being , Jain determined the dungeon boss because the mist exerted a feeling he simultaneously fell metres away. As he grew nearer to where he sensed this malevolent being , the purple mist in the air grew more visible and thicker and the sense of presence grew stronger.

The plan was to defeat the dungeon boss , if the dungeon boss was defeated then the poison inhabited in Misha and Barbra's body would probably wear out without a supplier, ultimately healing them.

The feeling of the dungeon boss's presence reached its maximum point - they had arrived at the dungeon boss's chamber.

There was a large opening infront of them similar to the dungeon entrance , an opening so large it seemed ready to consume them whole as it baited them in.

𝑯𝒎𝒎.. 𝑫𝒊𝒅 𝑰 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒕 ?

Jain thought , but he paid more attention to the wide opening and noticed that there wasn't much light coming out of it compared to the radiance of sunlight which meant this was indeed the dungeon boss's chamber , there was a feeling of danger lingering in Jain's mind.

It was instinct.

Jain and Vin entered the chamber , only to be welcomed by sticky fluids on their way in plus with a transparent and thin membranes where the fluid seemed to flow out from.

Jain didn't understand what those things were here for , which is why he stopped for further inspection.

" They are eggs. "

Vin said attentively , looking at the fluid which had already attached on their shoes - Jain's boots and Vin's pointy ones but they didn't seem like they could take a while to remove , they were egg-yolk kinda sticky.

" Eggs ? Then that'd mean - "

" Yes , the dungeon boss has the ability to reproduce. But an army of that many insect monsters isn't easy to control with power alone which means it must have a corresponding ability. "

That wasn't what Jain was aiming for , but he would let it pass. What he wanted to say was that that'd mean that the ants they - he had just battled must have hatched from these many empty shells.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

It was hard to navigate in this dim light.

" Hmm.. do you think you can light up using your fire magic ? It's kinda really hard to see anything else. "

"O-oh , of course. "

Vin raised his right hand and a small fire formed levitating 3 centimetres right above it , a sound similar to the crack of fire surrounded them after.

" Eh. What did you do? "

" I did nothing, I just lit the fire , nothing else.. "

The sound died down, and simultaneously small lights in a row on the dungeon's walls all lit brightening the place.

They were flame torches aligned next to each other with a 2 inch distance between them.

Due to the brighter light , the dungeon boss' chamber full view came to sight ; it was more than just wide , it was enormous as a result the flame torches were several.

" Oh no.. look "

Jain heard Vin's words of concern and decided to look ahead where he was pointing.

He stopped himself from guessing from what was ahead : more eggs. There were more and more eggs packed next to each other which had not hatched yet , they were transparent as well with the fluid held in a circular shape and a strange black ball shaped thing right in the middle.

" That's just...crazy "

Vin commented out of amazement , Jain understood exactly what he was feeling as he was feeling it too.

The eggs numbered many - close to 700 possibly a thousand , they could tell because there was a large enough space inbetween them to allow a rough estimation.

They weren't your normal sized eggs too , they were large - larger than both of the Hunters sizes combined.

The thing that shook both of them to the core was the ball shaped thing in the middle of the egg developed features in literally seconds.

First legs developed followed by narrowly shaped behinds , a head , mandibles , an antenna and finally narrowly shaped wings.

The eggs were developing at a rapid pace that It wouldn't be stupid to assume they're hatching very soon.

𝑳𝒆𝒕 𝒎𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒂 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏 , 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒚.

Jain turned to face Vin

" I'll take on the dungeon boss , and you'll be in charge of making sure the ants don't try to interfere with our fight. "

Jain said with authority , he hated bossing him around but this plan was what was best for both of them. Vin stopped to think , touching his chin.

" Hmm... That's a solid plan , it just might work. If you can take out the dungeon boss , it's minions will naturally fall as well. Insect type monsters are hostile if only you invade their territory so that means they'll default back to their normal selves. And if my theory is true , the dungeon boss must be some sort of ant queen and insect queens aren't that largely strong and depend on their subjects for protection. Wait , why do we have to defeat the dungeon boss again? "

It was just as Jain expected , Vin couldn't see or sense the purple mist as he could so it was natural dear for him to question the intention behind defeating the dungeon boss.

" To save your friends , remember? "

Vin frowned , clearly not understanding

" That's vague. "

" Okay , I am not good with explaining but what I know is that the dungeon boss is the supplier for the poison in those girls bloodstream , if we defeat it then it's natural for the poison to disappear, right ? "

Vin frowned deeper

" Hmm . I don't know , I've never heard of something like that and if there was , I am sure the chances of us succeeding to save them by defeating the dungeon boss aren't that high. "

Jain sighed hearing the words before giving Vin a pat on the shoulder , despite the difference in height

" Look , just trust me. You won't regret it "

Jain smiled.

Vin's anxieties seemed to melt away infront of Jain's unshaken confidence.

" Okay , let's do this. "

With a quick leap , Jain took off leaving Vin behind swarmed by a cloud of dust.

Jain would apologize later for that.

Jain was headed for the direction where he sensed a stronger presence the most , further head from the several eggs.

..

Meanwhile Vin stared at the several eggs near him which were nearing hatching.

He quickly followed behind Jain by foot , he wasn't that physically fit so he couldn't jump on the air covering metres in seconds like Jain could.

𝑰 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏 , 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔.

The entire moment felt like a dream , or rather a nightmare considering he was surrounded by to-be predators.

Vin had agreed to the plan sheepishly, but in actual truth he didn't know how he could prevent a swarm of monsters from interfering in a battle of two power houses , even calling them just a swarm felt like an understatement.

He was wrecking his brain over how he would accomplish such an almost impossible feat.

His spell arsenal wasn't that powerful , it was only effective against a single individual.

The only spell which might prevent some ants from growing nearer was the 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄 spell but even that consumed a lot of mana , and with the absent mana in the dungeon's atmosphere with no hopes of recovery , his task felt even more of a burden.

Vin sighed heavily.

𝑱𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒎 𝑰 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔?

He stared ahead , Jain was no longer in sight now and was probably nearing the dungeon boss.

Vin prayed in his heart that this plan didn't fall apart and for lady luck to smile on their battles ahead , atleast just for this time.
