Chapter 10 – First contact

Olga led the group to the door, Mel right behind her sticking as close as possible while trying to appear nonchalant. Damon walked next to Finch and Tisha brought up the rear.

[Cave of Undead – Floor 1]

The doors were 20 feet in height. Olga placed her hands on each door and pushed, barely straining. The doors were forced to either side slamming into the walls on the other side. Tisha wondered what her Strength rank was. She herself was currently at G+ which was supposedly the highest rank you could receive when beginning in this world, but she was sure she could not replicate that feat with as much ease. Not without using Varos to enhance herself anyway.

They walked into what look like a gigantic hallway. Easily thirty to forty meters from floor to ceiling. The walls and floor were made up of some purplish brick, and there were no windows on the walls. Just the same torches lined them on either side. The walls glowed slightly giving off some extra light.

The entire thing was eerie. Was this not called the Cave of Undead? It looked more like a typical undead castle.

The moment they took a few steps into the place, the ground shuddered and out of purple pools came the Skeleton Warriors. About thirty of them stood in front of the group. Followed by ten or so Mages.

“Huh, are those the skeletons that ya all fought? Without the armour?” Olga asked her head in a tilt.

She really had not seen them before.

“Indeed.” Tisha answered.

“Gonna sit this one out, they look weak.” She replied.

“Suit yourself.” Mel intoned as she drew her revolver up.

It was a large thing of black shiny metal, from what Tisha could tell, an eight-shooter? Pointing at the enemies she let loose a shot. The boom that erupted from its mouth sounded more like a miniature cannon than a revolver. The shot had already ripped through two enemies before the sound was heard. A normal human could not fire that thing.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Impressive.” Tisha nodded in appreciation.

The woman grinned smugly firing more shots as the enemies charged towards them. Damon moved forward to intercept the closest ones his blade glowing blue as he slashed the skeletons apart. His enhanced weapon was far more effective than the junk she was currently holding. He could directly enhance it with Varos as a skill, technically she did the same with her Artifact. But it was not a melee weapon, making its use far less efficient.

That being said, having learnt to use different amounts of Varos in each blast meant that she could be more conservative as she was now. She made sure to target the mages in the back so that they did not cast anything. Firing smaller blasts every few seconds she was able to whittle them down with the help of Finch.

He shot swords made from a green energy towards the mages. All the attacks from each person were accurate. Now that she thought about it, every person here did not make incredibly obvious rookie mistakes. Olga, herself and the bald man were one thing all having combat experience of various levels (she was certain Olga had the most out of all of them) but Finch and Mel were another thing. Sure, Mel had trained at a range but that was incredibly different from an actual combat situation.

Even looking at herself her movements had been far too accurate, she suspected that even the dexterity stat was nigh supernatural at its lowest levels.

After the eighth shot, Mel stopped firing and opened the revolver up. She knocked the entire cylinder out and as it hit the floor it disappeared into red motes of light. Another full cylinder appeared in her hand and she slotted it in before closing the weapon up and going back to shooting.

In less than fifteen seconds, the Undead entourage was eradicated.

As Tisha prepared to move on, she noticed that both Finch and Damon seemed distracted. She gave them a quizzical look.

“I got an upgrade to my Dexterity.” Damon said, in explanation.

“Same.” Finch simply added.

“Oh? Good for you two.” Olga congratulated them with a thumbs up towards Finch in particular. Tisha raised an eyebrow at that. With the earlier comments Olga had made and this action, she seemed to pay quite a bit of attention to Finch.

“Thanks.” They said in unison. Finch with nervous pride behind his words.

“Hmph, I had already gained an upgrade in the Test.” Mel stated snobbishly.

“Good for you?” Olga replied indifferently as they began to walk across the hall. Mel stuck her tongue out at Olga as she walked past.

The moved to the end of the large hallway towards a double door much like the one they just used to enter. This time before they could reach it, the door opened on its own. More Skeletons were already waiting on the other side. Far more than the last group.

This time the Mages were already casting.
