After hours of practicing, Kairos decided to take a break and cook some lunch. He then spent some time watching TV before returning to his training. With the help of the blue orb, he managed to improve his mastery of the [Swiftless Blade] technique to 80%. It was now almost perfect. Taking another break to rest, he realized it was already 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and his sister Sophia had finally arrived home.
"Brother, I'm home," she said aloud, a happy expression on her face.
"How's your day?" Kairos asked, noticing her excitement.
"It was great! Do you know what brother! my teacher just called me a genius because I've already reached the 6th grade in Martial Warrior. Our family is going to be famous in the future," she replied with a smug smile, clearly proud of her accomplishment.
It's truly remarkable how talented Sophia is at such a young age. While she may not be one of those rare prodigies who reached the 6th stage in Body Refinement at just 12-13 years old, she still has plenty to be proud of.
[Just to be clear, Martial Warrior Stage and Body Refinement are the same, both being the starting point for becoming a cultivator.]
Despite not having access to some great resources like those in the big families, her talent shines through, proving her to be a true genius in her own right.
"Heh, that's a little arrogant of you, sis," Kairos joked, seeing her pride.
"Hehe," Sophia giggled at his words.
"By the way, brother, since you didn't attend school for two days, you missed an announcement. The principal announced that there will be a tournament for the 11th and 12th-year students, and the top 10 winners will get to participate in the college admission test in advance," Sophia said hastily, her arms clinging to Kairos's wrist as she felt excited.
"Sadly, I'm only in the 9th grade this year. If I were a little older, I could have participated in it," Sophia said feeling sad, as she lowered her head.
"If only brother is talented, since he really wants to partake in this event, so it's up to me, his younger sister, to do the bidding and make his dreams come true," Sophia said, full determination that is shining in her eyes.
Hearing this, Kairos was excited but decided to keep it a secret, planning to surprise everyone. He just nodded and smiled at Sophia.
Seeing her brother's smile, an impending sense of doom appeared on her face.
"Brother, don't tell me you want to partake in the tournament as well. You do know it's dangerous since the senior students in your year have already reached a higher level. What if you get hurt?" Sophia expressed her concern, her eyes filled with worry.
Kairos simply shook his head in dismissal, "Don't worry, I know my limits," he said while laughing and grinning inside.
"Oh little sister, I'll show the whole school how cool your big brother is," Kairos said, releasing a small idiotic laugh.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Of course, Sophia saw this and her heart felt like it was nailed by a hammer, "Oh no, it's too late, brother became mentally retarded," she said inwardly, as her eyes turned watery.
"Oh yeah, little sis, when is the date for this event going to be held?" Kairos said, not knowing the exact time.
"Actually, tomorrow. The principal said it was urgent, and the College Admission test will be held after this tournament in about a week. Because of the Devils increasing their attacks, many human cultivators have died, so the academy needs a lot of students to be enrolled and improve their cultivation to help assist the seniors in battle for resources," Sophia stated, her eyes red with anger.
Kairos couldn't help but raise his brows after hearing this. "That fast?" he mumbled inwardly.
The devils they were facing right now were really cunning. He was also angry because he knew the devil population was three times larger than theirs. So, losing a few wouldn't cause massive damage on their side.
But for humanity, the massive invasion of the devils had cut their population in half, and after hundreds of years of battle, death was unimaginable, and their population was decreasing even further. It was down to around 3 billion people of remaining humans on their planet.
Even if the divine sentinels participated in this fight, they couldn't. It was a battle of lower existence. If they joined, the higher existence from the other side would also join, making the battle even more deadly and destructive. It could squeeze their planet dry with just the pressure they released.
He was only at the 6th level of Body Refinement, while his classmates were at the 8th or possibly 9th stage. He knew he needed to raise his level to at least the 8th to have a good chance.
"I see," he replied, his eyes turning serious.
"I need to increase my cultivation faster," Kairos said with determination.
He knew that if this continued, humanity would cease to exist in the Milky Way. He needed to become stronger to protect his family.
The two of them didn't talk anymore and watched some TV. They also played together since it was boring to watch for an hour. Kairos held Sophia's wrists with one arm, clutching them gently.
He then tickled her making her laugh and struggle, she was laughing so hard that tears are even starting to slide from her cheeks. Even though she was laughing Sophia could not break free from his brother's clutches.
Even though she's at the 6th level, which is three stages higher than her brother, she can't break free. This made her more curious, but she couldn't think carefully because she was being tickled in her armpits.
After a while, Kairos let go, and Sophia slumped down on the couch, her uniform soaked in sweat, and her chest heaved up and down from the heavy breathing.
Kairos just chuckled at this, and noticing Sophia's glare, she sat up on the couch and pointed at him.
"Why are you so strong?" she asked with a questioning gaze.
"I don't know. Try guessing?" Kairos said with a mysterious smile.
Sophia, who was angry at his brother acting like a Mysterio in front, was about to argue about it when their mother finally arrived, holding groceries. So, she put her thoughts aside for now and helped her mother.
Kairos also helped by cooking the rice while their mother washed the vegetables, skinned the fish, and chopped the vegetables to make their dinner.
After the cooking was done, Kairos and his sister Sophia began to eat their meal. They had their supper, and after they finished eating, Kairos decided to wash the dishes since he knew his mother must be very tired.
His sister then decided to go back to her room to cultivate, while her mother, who was tired for the day, went back to her room to rest. Kairos was left alone in the kitchen, washing the dishes. When all was done, he took a bath and went back to his room, only wearing an underwear, since he will be sweaty after he woke up.
As he slumped back to bed and fell asleep after a tired day, his consciousness was in the voidless space again, and he saw the portal.
"I'm actually right. So, this must mean that once a night, I can go back in here and kill beasts to level up," Kairos thought.
As he walked slowly to the green portal, and was absorbed through it yet again
