001~Beginnings

"This was supposed to be delivered weeks ago!" Aya's boss bellows as she presents the envelope to him. She could only apologize weakly as she didn't know what else to do. It wasn't her fault the post office sent the package late but he would hear none of it.

"I'm sorry sir, but I'm not in charge of when the packages get here," she whispered, trying not to irritate the old, grumpy man any further.

He glares, flinging the parcel unto the table and cursing at her. Aya squeaks taking the trolley of mail and pushing it out of the manager's office so she could continue her job.

Another day another drama.

'Why are they never grateful for their mail, I'm the tenth person they hired for this post, can't they see the problem is them?' Aya thinks as she continues to leave letters and packages at the desks of the office workers.

Many of them at Nue Corp pay her no mind as they continue their office business, Aya shakes her head waiting to be done with this floor.

She pushes her trolley all the way to the elevator, pressing the button that would make it open up. The ding comes and she maneuvers the metal carriage unto the platform. Despite her audible struggles no one offers to help her.

Aya groans, finally getting the trolley into the elevator. She takes her uniform cap off, wiping the sweat off her brow.

When would she get a cushy office job? Or better yet when would she not have to work such grueling days for little pay?

Pressing her back against the elevator she pulls out her phone to do some browsing as she waits for the elevator to hit the fifth floor. It would only get ruder from there.

Clicking around she sees an ad for a new game.

'Hmm, this looks interesting.' she thinks. The elevator doors open suddenly and Aya is forced to shove her phone back into her pocket.

A man steps onto the elevator, taking one look at her he scoffs, as if having to share the space with her was somehow demeaning to him.

"Good afternoon sir." Aya still greets cheerfully, if people wanted to be rude that was a reflection of them not her, just as if she wanted to be polite, that was a reflection on her. The man of course pays her no mind but she simply goes about her business.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Reaching the fifth floor, she pushes the trolley out once again, the tires squeak causing the occupants on the floor to glare at her.

"Excuse me." she says, politely. Pushing the cart again, she begins the process of delivering the mail to the residents of the floor. Few thank her but a majority pay her no attention. After the work on the fifth floor, Aya checks the rest of the mail stash to see where they needed to go.

"Aww man, I was hoping I wouldn't have to see her today." Aya says to herself. The final few letters were all addressed to the top floor of the Nue Corp building, the office of the company's president and his ruthless assistant.

Aya sighs, steeling her resolve for the inevitable tongue lashing she would receive just for being below the woman in the work force.

Aya persists looking forward to the day she would give the woman a piece of her mind. She would let her know a person's worth wasn't decided by the situation they were in.

The elevator door's open, revealing the opulence of the top floor. Bright, dazzling light shone from the chandelier above Aya's head making her gaze in awe every time she saw it.

The trolley lands on the pristine Italian tiled floor with a squeak just in time for a blonde woman to look up and smirk.

The president's secretary was one of the most beautiful women on the floor, shiny blonde hair adorned the top of her hair while flawless skin covered every inch of her. Piercing blue eyes twist into a glare the moment they land on Aya.

"Ugh, mail girl." red lined plump lips scoff in annoyance. "I thought I wouldn't have to see your mousy form here today." the woman says.

'Likewise Viviana.' Aya thinks but she dares not say it out loud, one word from the blonde and the president would have her fired in an instant.

"I just have the regular mail for the president and vice president." Aya says containing her anger. There wasn't any reason for Viviana to treat her so badly, she was just a college aged kid trying to make it in this world.

Yet here this older woman was, making her work life so unpleasant.

Viviana makes an exaggerated sigh and holds her silk covered hand out to Aya for the letter. Aya packs them up hurrying over to the luxury wood table. At the last minute, Viviana pulls away letting the letters scatter all over the floor.

Raising a hand to her lips she hides a devious grin.

"My, My what a clumsy girl you are. I wonder what you're doing working for such a company like Nue corp."

Aya balls her fist, calming down she gathers the letters once more. Taking note of the elegant gold trimmed packaging. She can't help but wonder where she'd seen that particular insignia from though.

'Fancy.' she thinks.

"Have a good day, Viviana." Aya says, though there's some bite in her tone as she places the letters down on the wooden desk.

Viviana rolls her eyes at the parting words, flipping her silky blonde hair and waving Aya away like she was nothing.

Aya moves, pushing the now empty trolley into the elevator once more. Now that all the mail had been sent out she would surely get some reprieve.

----------

"But I just came from the fifth floor." Aya whines. The head of the mail room shrugs, uncaring of the young girl he was working to the bone. The older man takes the cigarette out of his mouth and blows the puff of smoke in Aya's face.

"You wanna keep working here or not?" the simple question is enough to make Aya pack up the mail. With Unemployment reaching 40% in Glenwood County, she simply could not afford to lose the only job she was able to get.

----------

Once the delivery was done, Aya, exhausted from all the work pushes the trolley into it's resting place so she could have a seat.

Collapsing into the metal bench, she pants hard, barely able to breathe from the manual labor she'd been put through.

Pulling out her phone she's finally able to study the ad she'd previously been looking at.

"An mmorpg, I've never played that before." she says clicking about. A promotional video plays, introducing her to the world of Moon Valley.
