The next day, morning light awakens the flower shop, where Deirdre wanders, surrounded by blossoms that once bloomed under her grandmother's loving care. Memories unfold like a tapestry, woven from threads of joy and sorrow. Tears fall, but amidst the grief, a spark of purpose ignites. She envisions a future for the shop, a living testament to Silvia's legacy. Meanwhile, Cormac makes his way to the pub, sitting at the group table with Kate, Ashley, and Emerald. The women listen intently, as Cormac shares his own fears, their conversation a gentle hum of support. Their faces are etched with concern for Deirdre's heart, still fragile from the storm of grief.
(K)I hope you don't mind hanging out with just the women today, Cormac.
(C)I don’t mind at all. Merig and the other goblins are out on patrol, so I figured I’d come and talk to the women of the friend group. Deirdre is at the flower shop tending to the flowers and the garden. She wants to keep them alive.
(A)I don’t blame her, those flowers mean a lot to her and I’m sure she wants to take over the shop as soon as she’s able to.
(C)I told her I would help her while she’s grieving. But she insists I keep up with my guard duties. Merig gave me this time off and I’m taking advantage of it to be with her when she needs me.
(EM)She’ll probably just need some time alone in the shop. It might help her cope with the loss.
(C)I hope so, I hate seeing her cry. But at the same time, I know it’s for a good reason, so I don’t want to stop her from mourning.
(K)Just keep doing what you're doing. I know she appreciates it. She needs you now more than ever, especially since she's pregnant. She doesn't need the added stress on top of her grieving.
(C)I know, I'll do anything to help her. Part of me just wants to take her away somewhere so she can relax.
(A)Just stay home with her. That's probably the most peaceful place for her, aside from the flower shop.
(C)She’s afraid her grieving will affect the baby. But she said she can't help but cry. I want so badly to take away her pain like I normally do.
(K)And I'm sure you're doing a wonderful job already. Just let her cry. It'll help her so she doesn't bottle up her emotions. Continue to love her and hold her. She'll appreciate that more than anything.
(C)I know, I told her that I would never leave her side no matter what. I'll admit, I shed some tears with her last night while we laid down. She fell asleep and was still crying. My heart just broke for her. I couldn't help it.
(EM)That’s okay, you're an empathetic person. It's okay to be vulnerable around the one you love the most. People don't always need to be stoic about things. Bottling up emotions isn't healthy to begin with, so I don't judge you for expressing them.
(A)Same here. I've seen Larry shed a tear or two. I didn't judge him for it, nor do I love him any less. We have emotions, it's okay to express them sometimes.
(C)Thanks for not judging me. I've always heard human men judge each other for showing emotion. No wonder some of them are so angry all the time, and they sometimes even take it out on their significant other. I never want to be like that toward Deirdre. I told her she’s too precious to me and I love her way too much.
(A)We know you do. You love that woman and you're her entire world. I've never once seen you get angry with her. Just like I've never seen Merig get angry with Kate.
(C)I've seen what anger does to people. I heard what Sean did to you, Kate, and I never want to be like that. I'll die first.
(K)Merig said the same thing after seeing that man hit me last year here in the pub.
(C)I wish I would've witnessed that. I would’ve joined Merig in beating him senseless. I'm glad that asshole is banned. Have you ever seen him since then?
(K)A few times, but he never approached me because Merig was with me. It's funny to watch him nearly piss himself when he sees Merig. Of course, Merig will scare him with his red eyes and he runs away.
(C)[chuckles] Yeah, it can be terrifying, but I don't blame him for it. All he wants is to keep you safe. That's my goal as well with Deirdre, especially when she starts to show and her belly grows. It'll be beautiful to see and I can't wait.
(K)[smiles] I can't wait either, I'm so excited for her, and I know it'll take her mind off of everything. I'm sure it'll make her even more happy when you two get married.
(C)Absolutely, I'll be happy as well. She even picked out a name for the baby.
(K)[gasp] What are you going to name him?
(C)His name will be Connor.
(A)That's a wonderful name. I love it.
(C)I love it too, it's perfect, I can't wait to meet him. Deirdre wanted Silvia to meet him as well, and she also wanted her to see us get married.
(K)I’m sure Silvia will be watching over you both, and she'll be proud.
(C)I hope so. She really liked me and she accepted me and didn't judge me. She approved of Deirdre and me being together and I was really happy. Her parents hate me, but they mean nothing to me if that's how they feel about me.
(K)That’s right, Cormac, you're marrying Deirdre, not them. That's always been my belief. You're marrying the one you love, not their family.
(C)I know and I felt bad at first, but after Deirdre and I talked, I don't feel that way anymore.
(A)Don’t feel bad, you have no reason to.
(K)Yeah, when my aunt Sharon voiced her opinion and did what she did, I didn't care for her anymore. I lost all respect for her.
(EM)Yeah, I'm sure Deirdre lost respect for her family as well.
(C)After hearing how they treated her, I wouldn't be surprised. Oh, Emerald, how's your eye feeling?
(EM)It’s doing better. The swelling went down, so now it's just a black eye. Although every time Gordo sees me, he hangs his head in shame. He still feels really bad. I actually kind of feel bad for him because he’s really torn up about it. But I keep telling him I’m fine.
(C)He’ll be alright, despite his past, he’s a big softie. I know he didn't mean to hurt you, but I'm glad your eye is starting to feel better.
(EM)Hopefully, he’ll still spar with me and train me. I don’t want this one incident to stop him from being my mentor. I really look forward to continuing my training.
(C)Gordo will be fine, as long as the measures are put in place to prevent it from happening again, as Merig said. Since Gordo is only one of three martial artists in the guards, there are not a lot of safety measures put in place. Merig kind of feels bad for neglecting it, so things will change at the training grounds so you can continue your training, so don’t worry.
(EM)That’s a relief, maybe something for facial protection would be helpful. Some kind of padding to absorb the impact of punches and kicks.
(C)That’s a good idea. I’ll definitely relay that to Merig. So how’s the baby doing, Kate?
(K)He’s doing just fine, he’s still as active as ever. Another two weeks and I should go into labor.
(A)You look like you’re ready to pop, hon.
(K)I am, but I think I like being pregnant. I told Merig I wanted to have at least two.
(EM)Have you thought of a name?
(K)I’ve been thinking about a name, but I don’t know if Merig will like it. I want to name him Nevan, it means “little saint”.
(C)Just like his mother, I think that sounds like a great name. I think Merig will love it too.
(EM)I like that name, too.
(A)That’s a perfect name, Kate. Your name means “pure” doesn’t it?
(K)That’s right, my full first name is actually Katelyn, but I prefer Kate.
(EM)Your name suits you, Kate. Karry sings your praises a lot, she loves you.
(K)How is she doing? I know I haven’t talked to her in a while.
(EM)She’s alright, she’s doing what she can to take care of Dad and so am I. He insisted I train, but I told him I don’t mind visiting before I go home for the day.
(K)Your dad isn’t doing merchant work anymore, is he?
(EM)Not after what happened, he can’t. He limps because of his injury when he was attacked. Nessa even told him it’s best if he retires. He’s literally worked himself to the bone.
(K)I understand. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that.
(EM)It’s okay, I care about him and I want him to be happy even if he’s not working anymore. He says he wants to help Karry since he wants to do something instead of lying in bed all day. Karry said the most he can do is cashier work, which he thinks is better than nothing.
(A)It gives him something to do. It's good that he stays active at least a little throughout the day.
(EM)Yeah, but at least I have my dad home. I was always worried about his safety when he was doing his merchant work. I couldn't contact him while he was away from home, so I just waited. Karry would be too busy to talk to me if I needed it, and I didn’t have many friends until now.
(K)Oh, sweetie, we're here for you. I'm sorry you went through that growing up.
(EM)For anyone who doesn't know, my mother died when I was born.
(C)I’m so sorry, Emerald, I'm sure it's been hard for you.
(EM)Well, when you grow up with no mother or friends, it weighs on you. People at school would tell me that I killed my mother.
(K)Oh, that's rotten, it's not your fault, Emerald, things happen. Maybe not the way we planned, but you were just an innocent newborn, you didn't know what was happening.
(A)Yeah, we can't stop certain things from happening. No one knew it would happen.
(EM)I still blame myself, but not as much since I know it happens to some women. I've just been alone most of my life. Karry did what she could as a sister and was a mother figure to me. But I tried making friends, but no one liked me at all. Karry said the parents would gossip about what happened to my mother and that’s how the kids at school knew. The parents judged me and my family as well. No one was really nice to us until Karry took over the produce shop.
(C)People can be terrible and it influences the children. They have no sympathy whatsoever for people who experienced tragedy.
(EM)My mother owned the shop before she died and Dad ran the shop until Karry was old enough, and she decided to run it while Dad worked his merchant job. I feel I took away Karry’s freedom because of what happened. She dedicated most of her life to helping raise me and running the shop and I think she resents me for it.
(K)I’m sure that’s not true at all. Karry loves you. You’re her sister. Family does things for each other. I helped my dad take care of my mother when she was sick back home. I don’t resent my mother one bit. I cared more about her than anything, and I’m sure Karry felt the same way.
(EM)Maybe, but this isn’t about me. I’m sorry if I brought the mood down even worse.
(A)Don’t even worry, that’s what we’re here for, that’s our motto in this friend circle.
(K)That’s right, and you’re a friend to us as well as a striving Royal Guard. You’re going to do amazing work with everyone. You and Ash are the only women in the Royal Guards as of now.
(EM)That’s what I was told and I’m okay with that. I know men and goblins are stronger. I just want to fight bandits and protect the city. But I was there at the training grounds for a day and I already got hurt.
(C)I’m sure you’ll do great work, Emerald, accidents happen.
(A)Yeah, you’ll do fine. I can’t tell you how much I got hurt when I was training. Nessa and I became best friends, eventually.
(K)So what else do you plan on doing today, Cormac?
(C)I’ll probably swing by the training grounds real quick to meet up with Merig and the other goblins. Then I’ll head to the flower shop with Deirdre.
(K)Alright, go be with Deirdre. She needs you. Don’t let her stress too much, that baby in her womb needs you as well.
(C)I know, I’m taking care of two, not just one and I’m content with that.
(K)I’m sure you are. Give her our love as well, let her know that we care.
(C)I will, I’ll see you later.
As the morning wears on, Cormac bids a temporary farewell to the women, their faces still etched with concern for Deirdre's fragile heart. He departs the pub, making his way to the training grounds where he awaits the arrival of Merig and the other goblins still out on patrol. Meanwhile, in the forest, Merig, Larry, Barth, and Gordo have completed their routine sweep. The goblins expertly dispose of the traps and mines that had been triggered, while skillfully avoiding the new ones that Ashley had set prior to their patrol. With their tasks complete, the goblins gather at their customary lookout, their horses' ears perked and alert as they scan the landscape for any sign of lurking bandits. The forest, once a vibrant backdrop for their lively banter, now stands silent, its trees a solemn witness to their grief, their autumn leaves rustling softly in the gentle, chilly morning breeze. As they sit idle, their conversation turns to the somber topic of Silvia's passing, their voices hushed in respect.
(L)She’s really gone, it almost doesn’t feel real.
(M)Yeah, it never does. Silvia was a wonderful person.
(B)Agreed, I only knew her for a while, but she was a grandmother to everyone and I formed a little bond with her after I first bought flowers from her to give to Sarah. I told her who they were for and she encouraged me to tell her how I felt along with everyone else.
(M)I bought Kate flowers a few times as well before I confessed to her. Silvia encouraged me as well to tell Kate how I felt. She was more than happy to provide the flowers for our wedding and I’ll never forget it. We kept some flowers from Kate’s bouquet and had them made into jewelry.
(B)Just like she did with Sarah’s necklace she made for her. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t shed a tear after her funeral. Sarah and I went home, and we both had a few moments and shed tears together. Silvia meant a lot to this city. She was everyone’s grandmother, and she impacted all of us.
(G)I even bought flowers from her to give to Emerald as an apology for hurting her eye. When I explained what happened, Silvia understood that it was an accident and that Emerald probably doesn’t hate me. That gave me a little hope that she was right, but I can’t help but still feel bad every time I see her. The swelling went down from what she said, but her eye was still very bruised from it.
(L)It’s okay, pal, we know you didn’t mean to. I was just yanking your chain the other day. I didn’t mean to upset you.
(G)[sigh] It’s fine, I’m just glad she doesn’t hate me. She actually said she can’t wait to spar with me again and start her training back up. She really wants to go through with being a guard and fight bandits.
(L)That’s good, at least she’s still optimistic about it. I remember when I would bring Ash flowers when she would get hurt and pay a visit to the healer. I’m sure Barth and Gordo remember Nessa mentioning it when that incident happened with Rachel. Ash really appreciated the flowers and it would make her smile every time. She said that’s when she first started falling in love with me. Silvia encouraged me to tell her how I felt as well and I did, but you all know about the rejections. Honestly, I think it was all worth it because she actually did fall in love with me, so I found out last year.
(B)Yeah, I remember you telling us, it seems Silvia’s flowers had some kind of magical powers to make people’s love for each other grow even more. Maybe it was the aroma of the flowers themselves, or just holding them and seeing their beauty did the trick.
(M)Some women just love flowers in general, it makes them smile. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Silvia put some kind of love spell on the flowers.
(G)If that’s the case, the flowers I gave Emerald may have unintentionally put a love spell on her.
(L)Uh oh, better watch out, Gordo, that woman might fall in love with you if that’s true.
(G)Listen, I’m sure that’s not going to happen. Like I said before, after what I did to her, I’m certain that she won’t want anything to do with me, especially in that fashion. But I also said before, I’m not expecting to find love. If it happens, great, but I’m still convinced no woman would care for me.
(M)We’ve all thought the same thing, Gordo, we goblins are just lucky to have our women. I wouldn’t be surprised if Emerald was charmed by you as well. You’ll be working closely one-on-one, so it’s bound to happen. And if it’s true and those flowers have some kind of love magic on them, then who knows what will happen?
(G)I’m sure that’s just speculation, a coincidence maybe. You were all in love with your women prior to you giving them flowers, so I can see why you would think they had a spell on them or something.
(B)I guess we’ll see what happens between you two. Oh hey, Merig, have you and Kate thought of a name for the baby?
(M)Actually yeah, she wants to name him Nevan.
(B)I love that name.
(L)I like that name, it’s perfect.
(G)I like it too, she should be ready to have the baby soon.
(M)Nessa said two more weeks and she’ll be ready. Kate wants her parents to be here a week before it happens and they said they’d love to be here.
(B)That’ll be great. They can meet Mom and Dad. I’m sure they’ll get along.
(M)Oh yeah, it’ll be fun, although they’ll probably do what parents do best.
(B)Tell everyone embarrassing stories?
(L)Hey, can you blame them? They raised amazing offspring. Kate is a wonderful person, and she was raised by wonderful people just like her. You and Barth are strong and brave goblins, and you were raised by amazing parents. Of course, they would brag about you all.
(G)Yeah, bad things may have happened for you to be separated. But you were still influenced in some way when you were still with them.
(M)Yeah but, it took me a while to find my path and get stronger.
(B)Hey, I wasn’t strong at first either, little brother. It took me time to get stronger, too.
(G)Yeah, it’s not a bad thing. We all start out weak and work to become stronger. You’re both humbled about it, but you also take pride in what you do.
(L)That’s right, even I wasn’t strong in the beginning. I had to train really hard to properly wield these blades of steel. And we also worked really hard to steal the hearts of our women.
(M)That we have, buddy, we’re strong in those aspects as well. But again, we didn’t used to be, especially me. I was so scared to even talk to Kate, let alone tell her that I love her.
(B)Yeah, I was a bit scared as well, I can’t lie. But I wanted so badly to be with Sarah that my love for her conquered my fears.
(M)Oh, that eventually happened to me as well, once I realized Kate felt the same about me. That was my only fear and when I knew she loved me, then my love for her didn’t care about that fear anymore. Although, it resurfaced when we were planning our wedding, the fear that I wasn’t good enough for her. I was proven wrong and again, my love triumphed over my fears.
(L)Just like Kate’s love for you conquered her fear of spiders to rescue you, as Barth has mentioned before.
(B)Yep, I’m proud of you, little brother. You and Kate both conquered your fears, and I conquered mine. We became brave and won the hearts of our women.
(L)Women love bravery in males. I think it's their love language, among other things.
(M)It’s true, but I’m still able to be vulnerable around Kate and she’s there for me. I’ve said it before. Her heart is the best thing about her and it’s what made me fall for her.
(L)Same with Ash. She’s got a good heart and I’m able to loosen up with her and not be so tense from all the daily work.
(B)Oh yeah, Sarah has been a joy and I’m still thinking about when we made love for the first time. I just want to go to the healer and whisk her away and take her home. I’m sure Nessa wouldn’t mind.[smirk]
(L)Sounds like you’re addicted, don’t get too carried away.
(B)Oh trust me, I have patience. I just can’t wait to go home to her. I have enough self-control not to go crazy and pressure her into making love every night. But at the same time, I wouldn't say no if she wanted to. But I know she works hard, and she gets tired some nights and just falls asleep in my arms. I love it. It’s what I live for and it’s the reason I come home every day. I don’t know what I’d do without her, so I’m going to do whatever I can to not lose her. If I get carried away, I could hurt her and I don’t want to do that. She did say she wanted to meet up at the pub for lunch today, so I’ll see her there and kiss her and tell her that I love her.
(M)That’s what makes the day worth living through, big brother. Seeing the smile on Kate’s face when I enter the pub and walk toward the table. She rubs her belly every time as if to let me know that she and the baby are both happy to see me.
(L)Oh, you know that woman lights up the entire room with her smile when she sees you, Merig. She’s even more happy to be carrying that goblin child in her belly.
(B)You’re the only one that woman sees when you grace her presence. She melts every time you greet her with a kiss.
(G)Sarah is the same way with you, Barth, and she’s even more excited to see you after you both took that leap in your relationship.
(B)I’ve noticed she’s much happier too. We’ve created a stronger bond since we made love. I feel that connection and it’s much deeper than it was before. It’s an amazing feeling.
(M)I couldn’t agree more, big brother. How did we get so lucky?
(L)Remember what we’ve said before? I honestly don’t know how we got lucky, but we did. It's best not to question it.
(G)Just continue to live the perfect life you guys have and don’t even think of the “how”.
(M)He’s right, I question how we got so lucky and I got my answers, but I don't dare question my perfect life. Kate gave me reasons as to why she loves me and I accepted those reasons and I no longer question them.
(L)Ash gave me reasons why she loves me as well and I gave her my reasons too.
(M)Oh, Kate knows why I love her so much.
(B)I’m sure Sarah will answer that question if I ask her and I’ll tell her my answer as well.
(G)Remember, their word is gold.
(L)You got that right, pal, I’m content with my life. I married my flame and hopefully, we’ll start a family too, but I’m in no rush.
(B)Me either, I want to spend as much time with Sarah as I can. Maybe I’ll ask her to marry me soon, but I won’t pressure her.
(M)She loves you enough to marry you, Barth. As Gordo said, Sarah melts each time you see each other and kiss her, just like Kate does with me.
(B)Yeah, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t do the same and she’s been acting a bit differently since we made love.
(G)It’s safe to say she enjoyed it.
(L)Yeah, expect her to be all over you, Barth. Maybe she’ll want to make love every night and you won’t have to worry that you’re pressuring her. Not that you would, ‘cause I know you wouldn’t.
(B)Yeah, I’d never do that, but I do look forward to making love with her more often.
(G)Oh, I bet, also, I hope Deirdre is okay, and Cormac as well. I know Cormac is spending time with her and helping her while she grieves.
(M)Deirdre needs Cormac. I’m happy to give him the time he needs to be with her. Silvia will be missed, but with Deirdre having no contact with her immediate family any longer, I’m sure she feels alone.
(L)Which means she’ll need Cormac even more. He’s all she has right now, aside from us. Her extended family doesn’t live in Tara, they all live back in Tir Chonaill.
(M)That’s where Kate’s mother is from, so I’m sure Kate’s aunt Sharon is friends with those pieces of shit.
(B)I wouldn’t doubt it. Fomor haters stick together, it seems. But hey, this isn’t about those people, it’s about Deirdre and Cormac right now. They need us and we’re here for them.
(G)They know that we just have to give them some space, but they know they can always talk to us if they need to.
(M)Agreed. It’s getting close to noon. Let’s finish up here and head to the pub.
(L)Aye, Commander.
As the four goblins complete their patrol rounds, they guide their horses toward the training grounds, their weary mounts eager for rest. Meanwhile, Cormac arrives at the training grounds, his footsteps purposeful as he heads to the armory to claim his trusty crossbow. With his weapon in hand, he makes his way to the targets, his eyes scanning the area with a practiced intensity. Selecting a target, Cormac stands tall, his focus unwavering as he loads the crossbow with a bolt from his quiver. With a smooth motion, he raises the crossbow, takes aim, and fires. The bolt soars through the air, striking the target with deadly precision, dead center. A soft smile plays on Cormac's lips as he reloads, his hands moving with a fluid rhythm. Lost in his practice, Cormac doesn't notice the approach of a familiar woman who enters the training grounds. Her eyes lock onto Cormac as she approaches from behind, ready to catch his attention with a few words.
(V)Hey, Cormac.
(C)...What the hell are you doing here, Victoria?
(V)I heard about the flower shopkeeper’s death. I heard she was the grandmother of your significant other.
(C)Wait, you’re still here in Tara? Why haven’t you gone back home?
(V)I still wanted to talk to you.
(C)What part of I want nothing to do with you, don’t you comprehend?
(V)I just wanted to talk, Cormac, please.
(C)Fine, what do you want to talk about? What could be so important that you can’t leave me alone and go back to Taill?
(V)I just don’t want you to hate me, Cormac, it hurts that you resent me for what happened.
(C)You just can’t see the problem with what you did, can you?
(V)I know I did wrong, I just want to make up for it.
(C)There’s no making up for it, Vic. You made your decision to exile me along with Sean and the rest of the people in Taill.
(V)It was the wrong decision and I know that now.
(C)Yeah, now you know, but you didn’t then and you should have thought for yourself. I would have never hurt you or anyone, and you knew that.
(V)I’m so sorry, Cormac, I wish I could take it all back.
(C)There’s no taking anything back after all these years. Do you expect me to take you back? Do you expect me to love you again?
(V)I still love you and I did then, even before I knew the truth. When I found out what actually happened, I thought things could be fixed between us. I missed you the entire time you were gone, and I thought about you all the time. I didn’t know what happened, and you’re right, I trusted someone I didn’t love. I should’ve trusted your word because I knew you better than that.
(C)Yeah, you should’ve, but you didn’t and you can’t change what happened. No one can. Deirdre put all of her trust in me and she would never do what you did because she knows the real me. Apparently, you didn’t, and you didn’t put one hundred percent of your trust in me. You may have loved me, but trust is important to love.
(V)You really love this woman, don’t you? How much do you love her?
(C)I don’t even think you can comprehend how much I love that woman. You can’t even comprehend that I want nothing to do with you.
(V)Do you love her more than you loved me?
(C)A million times more, Vic, this woman has done everything for me. Deirdre stayed at my bedside and cleaned my wounds when I got hurt and re-bandaged them every day. She bathed me when I needed it and she cooked food for me and made sure I ate. She cared for me and supported me even after I recovered, when I started my training to be a guard again. She stood right here next to me while I shot at these targets and encouraged me. She brought light into my life again when all I saw was darkness. She is the light in my life and I never saw that darkness again after I met her. I thought I wasn’t good enough for her, but somehow I’m able to hold her in my arms and tell her that I love her and make love to her. I’ll never feel what I felt before she came into my life, and you know what? I did the same for her and I regret nothing. I was happy to be her light in the darkness and protect her from it so that she didn’t get hurt again. I was happy to kill the bandit that hurt her and almost raped her, and I was happy to confess my love for her and be with her. If I could give her the universe, I would, but she’s happy just being with me and that means everything to me. She is everything to me, and you need to understand that. I’ve moved on as I’ve told you before, but you haven’t moved on and I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to work on that. Did you think that you would convince me to accept you back into my life and hopefully be with me again? Well, that’s not happening, because I asked Deirdre to marry me and we’re engaged. Here’s my ring. She has one similar to match, and that’s not all, she’s pregnant with my child too. I’m committed to her, I always have been, but now more than ever since she’s grieving for her grandmother, who made these rings before she died.
(V)I’m sorry that happened to her. I hope she finds peace.
(C)I’ll do my damndest to help her find peace. I’ll continue to protect her and love her and be the husband she deserves. And I’ll be the father that the child growing inside her belly deserves. She needs as much stress taken off of her as possible so she doesn’t lose the baby and losing her grandmother has already torn her apart. You don’t belong here or in my life again, Vic. Go home and find someone else to be with, because it won’t be with me. I’m committed and dedicated to Deirdre. I can’t and I won’t leave her and especially not to be with you again. You mean nothing to me and you need to leave the training grounds. You’re not permitted to be here. Leave Tara and forget I exist.
(V)If that’s how you really feel. Can I at least say goodbye properly? I want to hug you one last time. I want to feel you hold me.
(C)No, do not touch me. The only person worthy of my love is Deirdre. You don’t deserve anything from me.
Deirdre enters the training grounds, expecting a quiet meeting with Cormac as planned the night before. Instead, she's met with a tense scene, Cormac and Victoria standing by the targets, their conversation seemingly innocent. Victoria's arms open, inviting a hug as she walks closer to Cormac. Victoria's smile seems warm, but Cormac's body language screams discomfort. He takes a step back, his hands raised like barriers, but Victoria persists, her eyes locked on his with an unnerving intensity. Deirdre's confusion deepens as she recognizes Victoria from the agriculture shop. Deirdre's concern grows as she approaches the pair, her eyes darting between Cormac's stern expression and Victoria's unwavering smile. As Victoria inches closer, Cormac's arms extend, his hands open in a clear warning to stop. But Victoria ignores the warning, her feet carrying her closer to Cormac. Confusion in Deirdre's eyes as Cormac's firm hands physically halt Victoria's approach. A scowl appears on his face, his voice rising in a stern, assertive tone.
(C)I said don’t touch me. Unless you’re Deirdre, you have no business putting your hands on me.
(V)She doesn’t have to know.
(C)...But she will, because she’s right behind you, coming this way.
(V)...
(DD)Sweetheart, what’s going on here? What is this woman doing here? Wait, didn’t we see her at that shop the other day?
(C)Deirdre, I can explain.
(V)[smirk] Your soon-to-be husband and father of your child was just telling me how much he still loves me.
(C)What?!
(V)He was telling me how much he missed me and wanted to be with me again.
(DD)...Mic, is that true?
(C)No, it’s not true. She’s the one that was telling me all that, and I told her I wanted nothing to do with her like I told you.
(DD)Then why is she saying that?
(V)But it’s true, just think about it. I was misled into thinking that Cormac was the bad guy all those years ago. I realized how wrong I was and I wanted to reconnect with him. You heard his side of the story, but what about me? You can say I was the victim, too.
(C)Don’t listen to her, Deirdre, she’s trying to manipulate you.
(DD)...[scowl] It’s okay, my love, you don't have to explain anything. I know exactly what's going on here.
(C)You do?
(DD)I meant what I said when I told you that I trust you, Mic, and I stand by it. I trust you, and I know this woman is lying. You're trying to manipulate me, just like Sean manipulated Cormac. He's never given me a reason to not trust him, and I won't be swayed into thinking otherwise. He trusts me to not turn against him or betray him, and I trust him not to do the same for me. So why would I believe anything you say for one second and allow you to try to turn me against my fiancé? I would be no better than you if I did believe you because I know Mic and he wouldn’t lie to me, and he sure as hell wouldn't say those things to you because he loves me, not you. I know the real Cormac, but apparently, you didn't when you turned against him. I'm sure you regret it, but some decisions you just can't go back on. You have to suffer the consequences of your mistakes. Cormac suffered for his crimes, but he also redeemed himself, and I'm sure that's what you're trying to do. But you want to try to take away what doesn't belong to you because he moved on and found love and happiness here with me, and you're trying to take that away from me and him.
(V)[scowls] He doesn’t belong to you.
(DD)Actually, he does, and I belong to him too. We made a promise to each other and I'm pregnant with his child. We’ll also be getting married soon. We’ll be bound and committed to each other and we'll run my flower shop together and have our family. We'll live happily ever after and I'll love Mic until I sigh my last breath on this earth, and then I'll continue to love him in the afterlife. He doesn't belong to you anymore. Now leave this city or you will be escorted out by him. He's the sergeant, after all, and he has the power to do that. You honestly thought I would just run away after believing every word you said? You also probably thought that I would leave Cormac. Well, you were wrong. I made a promise to him and I intend to keep it. Mic is my fiancé, and you tried to take him from me like I suspected when he told me that you still love him and wanted to be in his life again. Well, that's not happening, and how disrespectful of you to try doing all this after I just lost my beloved grandmother. Not only did I make a promise to Cormac, but he made a promise to me as well, to never leave my side when I needed him.
(C)I don't intend to break that promise either, my beautiful sunflower. Thank you for trusting me.
(DD)Of course, my love, I told you I would never betray you and I won’t be like this woman and turn against you. And I'm sorry you didn't get what you thought would come from this, Miss Victoria. You broke the trust between you and Mic, and that's the most sacred thing in a relationship. I put all of my faith and trust in him from day one when he promised to always be here with me. He made that promise when he first took me into the forest so I could see the beautiful flowers again after years of being scared after I was attacked by a bandit. He said he'd always be here when I needed him and he wasn't going to leave me.
(C)I’ll always remember, you made the same promise to me and you've kept it. She's right, Vic, you broke the trust I had with you, whether you knew I was innocent or not, you still made the decision to believe someone's lies over the truth. My life became miserable after that, but Deirdre made it worth living again and you're not going to come between us. Leave, or I'll be forced to remove you. The commander and the other higher-ups should be here soon, so I’d leave quietly unless you want to deal with them.
(V)This isn't over, Mac.
(DD)It’s Mic, and it's definitely over for you.
As the tense scene unfolds, Merig, Larry, Barth, and Gordo ride into the training grounds on their horses, bound for the stables. But their approach is halted as they catch sight of Cormac, Deirdre, and Victoria clustered at the targets. Confusion etches itself on their faces as they guide their horses toward the trio, their eyes scanning the scene with growing unease. As they draw closer, they rein in their horses, their voices laced with concern. The group's attention shifts, Cormac and the women turning to face them
(M)Hey Cormac, and Deirdre, is everything okay?
(L)Yeah, who’s this woman?
(C)[sigh] This is Victoria, the woman I told you all about.
(B)So you’re the one that broke Cormac’s heart and turned against him along with that piece of shit, Sean.
(C)Yep, this is her, and I’m trying to get her to leave me alone. She thinks she can weasel her way into my life again and drive a wedge in my relationship with Deirdre.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
(G)Sounds like she regrets what she did after realizing you weren’t the bad guy.
(C)Pretty much. She thinks I’m just going to leave Deirdre and take her back. She was even trying to convince Deirdre that I said I would just throw away our entire relationship we’ve built together to be with her again. I’ve already proposed to Deirdre and I’ve planted my seed that’s growing inside her womb. There’s no way I’m throwing that away for someone who betrayed me. Deirdre has promised to never betray me as Vic did, and Deirdre isn’t stupid enough to believe the lies coming from this woman.
(L)You know, it kind of sounds like what happened to me and Ash when Rachel tried opening a rift between Ash and me.
(C)Yeah, well, Victoria tried, but she failed miserably. Deirdre trusts me to not leave her after all we’ve been through.
(B)What do you want us to do with her, buddy?
(C)Honestly, I want her out of here and to go back to Taill, and I never want to hear from her or see her again. Deirdre, what do you want us to do, my sunflower?
The goblins' gazes are fixed on Deirdre as she surveys them with a fleeting glance, her eyes then locking onto Victoria with a fierce intensity. Her stride is purposeful as she approaches Victoria, her glare burning brighter with each step. Deirdre halts inches from Victoria, her eyes blazing with a mix of anger and hurt. For a moment, the two women engage in a silent standoff, the air thick with unspoken emotions. Then, Deirdre's hand flashes across Victoria's face in a swift, sharp motion, the slap resounding through the training grounds. Victoria's head whips to the side, her eyes wide with shock and pain. The goblins watch in stunned silence, their mouths agape, as they struggle to process the sudden outburst. Victoria's head slowly turns back to face Deirdre, her eyes now filled with a mix of fear and apprehension. Deirdre's tears burst forth, streaming down her cheeks like rivulets of sorrow. Cormac turns to Victoria, his eyes blazing with a warning, his voice low and menacing, as he speaks using his stern voice.
(C)Victoria, if you retaliate against her, I will not hesitate to put you on the ground and restrain you. I’m sure you have some words for this woman, my sunflower.
(DD)As a matter of fact, I do. How dare you come to my city and try to take Cormac from me? The light of my life that chased away the darkness that surrounded me for years. No one but him had the ability to do so, and we made a solemn promise to never leave each other. I intend to keep it and so does Mic. You had your chance to be with someone so wonderful, but you threw that away. I won’t lie. For a split second, I thought I was being deceived, but you were the one who deceived me, Victoria. You did the same thing that horrible man did and you are no better than him, creating lies for your benefit. You regret everything, so you want to inflict the same pain on me. Believing your lie was a mistake, and I remembered the promise Cormac made to me. I’m sorry, my love, I can understand if you hate me. Even for a split second, I shouldn’t have believed a word this woman said.
(C)I could never hate you, Deirdre. I’m sure it’s from everything you’ve been through, I understand.
(M)Deirdre is also probably going through pregnancy hormones, so her judgment may be a little clouded, so don’t be too hard on her, Cormac. Kate’s going through it as well.
(C)I understand and I’m glad it was only a split second. I’m not upset with you, as long as you still have that trust in me, and realize she was lying.
(DD)I do trust you, pregnancy hormones or not, a split second was too long. I’m sorry, my love, please forgive me.
(C)Don’t be. There’s nothing to forgive because there’s nothing to apologize for. At least you didn’t leave me like this woman did, and you realized you were deceived by her and not me. Your trust in me triumphs over the lies and you’re still keeping your promise, so I’m still keeping mine. I still love you with all of my heart, my beautiful sunflower, and nothing will change how I feel about you, not even a little. I love you no less than I did before.
(DD)[smiles] I’m so glad to hear that, Mic, I love you too. I’ll never leave you, and never again will I be deceived, not even for a moment.
(M)So what do you want us to do, Deirdre? You’re the boss here. Cormac is your soon-to-be husband and the father of the child you bear.
(DD)I want this woman out of my city. She failed to create the rift between Cormac and me. Our love is just too strong for me to be misled by someone who wants to destroy it. You failed miserably and now you get to continue to live your miserable life just like you wished upon Cormac. Commander Flynn, please remove this woman. I don’t want her anywhere near me or my soon-to-be husband.
(M)[nods] Of course, Deirdre, let’s go, Miss Victoria. You’re not the only one I’ve had to escort out of the city. Just the other day during the funeral of Deirdre’s beloved grandmother, I had the pleasure of escorting her parents who caused trouble. I have no problem doing the same with you. Let’s go. If you have belongings somewhere, we’ll take you there to gather them and we’ll arrange for transportation for you back to Tailltean. Please assist me, Commander Dugan.
(L)With pleasure, Commander Flynn.
Victoria's scowl deepens as she reluctantly falls into step beside Merig and Larry's horses, the two goblins escorting her away from the training grounds. Barth and Gordo remain behind, watching as the trio disappears from view without further incident. Merig and Larry lead Victoria to gather her belongings, ensuring her departure from the city is peaceful. They provide a cart and horse, a gesture of goodwill to facilitate her swift exit. As the group vanishes into the distance, Barth and Gordo turn their attention to Cormac and Deirdre. The two stand facing each other, Deirdre's eyes welling up with more tears. Cormac's expression softens, and he opens his arms, embracing Deirdre as she wraps her own arms around him. They hold each other tightly, and Cormac's gentle murmurs soothe Deirdre's emotional turmoil.
(C)Everything will be okay, sweetheart, I’m still here. I’m not going anywhere, just as I promised in the beginning. No one is taking me away from you, not even that woman.
(G)That woman just showed up out of nowhere?
(C)Yeah, I was coming here just shooting at the targets and waiting on you guys. Then I was going to head to the flower shop to see Deirdre.
(B)The audacity, what does she want?
(C)Well, like I said, she wants me. She claims to still love me after everything that happened in Taill. She probably does, but she made her choice. It's not my fault she believed Sean over me, then realized she was lied to. As I've said before, I lost all love for her after what happened. She showed up at my room at the inn, thinking it would be a reunion between us. Then she showed up that day Deirdre and I went to that agriculture shop after we went to visit Sean at the prison. She was persistent, but I wasn’t budging.
(DD)I had a feeling she was going to try to tear us apart. I was afraid, but I was prepared, as you all saw. Like I said, I wasn’t going to be like her and turn against Cormac, and she wasn’t going to make me.
(G)That’s love for you. Love can be blind, but it can make you see the truth sometimes. You trust Cormac, and that’s what love is about.
(B)Love can see through lies and deceit and you trust Cormac enough to see past other people’s lies. You know the true Cormac just like we do, but you know him on a more intimate level, just like Kate does with Merig. I may be his brother, but no one knows him better than his wife.
(C)That’s right, not even Victoria knew me as well as Deirdre does, otherwise she would’ve seen past Sean’s lie just like Deirdre saw past Victoria’s lie.
(G)It seems there’s more love and trust there. Kind of reminds me of what happened with Ash and Larry when Rachel caused trouble, like Larry mentioned.
(B)Ash’s case was different. Her judgment was clouded by pain from the infidelity of a past lover. She thought she saw Larry being taken from her when she saw Rachel all over him. When he told her that wasn’t the case, the pain from her past resurfaced, and she didn’t believe him. She put all her trust in him, but her emotions went crazy and she panicked. She acted irrationally out of fear but realized how she perceived what happened and realized it was wrong. She admitted she acted out of emotion and should’ve judged the situation better. She put her trust back in Larry and their bond was stronger. Victoria was trying to tell you lies, but Rachel actually threw herself at Larry, which made Ash react the way she did.
(G)Yeah, and she dragged her out of the pub by her hair and hit her. That was a nice slap to Victoria’s face, by the way. By the sounds of it, it was well deserved.
(C)I think so too, Victoria can’t try that shit again in this city. Deirdre and I have a wedding to plan and a child to think about. We have a big plan for the future ahead and it’ll be perfect.
(B)Our futures are looking brighter every day. Life is good for us.
(C)Couldn't agree more. How are you feeling, my sunflower?
(DD)A little better, I just want to go to the pub and relax. I took care of the flowers at the shop.
(C)Alright, sweetheart, we’ll go when Merig and Larry get back. I’m sure you’re hungry.
(DD)I am, I’m just trying my best to smile as much as possible despite everything.
(C)Your best is good enough for me, remember? Just one day at a time.
(DD)[smiles] You’re absolutely right, my love, and it’ll get better because you’re here with me.
(C)Every day is better when I’m with you. I love you, my beautiful sunflower. I’m not going anywhere.
(DD)I love you too, Mic. I’m not going anywhere either.
(B)We’ll wait here with you both until Merig and Larry get back, and we’ll head to the pub with you.
(C)Sounds good.
Cormac, Deirdre, Barth, and Gordo linger at the training grounds, awaiting Merig and Larry's return from escorting Victoria out of the city. Meanwhile, Merig and Larry ensure Victoria's departure is seamless, arranging for a cart and horse to await her outside the city gates. With her belongings in hand, Victoria sets off towards Tailltean, leaving the group to breathe a collective sigh of relief. As the sun begins to set, the group makes their way to the pub, eager to unwind after the day's events. Inside, Sarah has already arrived, her face lighting up with a warm smile as she joins Ashley, Kate, and Emerald at the usual group table. The women greet each other with smiles on their faces, their joy infectious as they settle in for a well-deserved afternoon of downtime and maybe some lunch.
(S)Good afternoon, ladies.
(K)Good afternoon, beautiful. Are you here to see us during your lunch hour?
(S)Of course, I just wanted to stop by hoping to see Barth, but it seems he's not here yet. So I'll just hang out with the women until he gets here.
(A)Yeah, the goblins should be done with their daily patrol.
(S)Oh hey Emerald, your eye is looking better. How does it feel?
(EM)It feels fine actually, it's still discolored, but the pain and swelling are gone.
(S)That’s wonderful to hear, love, I’m so glad it’s feeling better.
(K)And how have you been, Miss Sarah? It’s been a bit since we last saw you.
(S)I’ve been doing fantastic, I know I’ve been busy with my work, and Barth usually takes me out to lunch. But I figured I would hang out here since it’s been a while.
(K)Well it’s good to see your beautiful smiling face, you look so happy. By the way, we haven’t got to ask you the most important question yet.
(S)[smiles] Oh yeah?
(K)Oh, come on, Sarah, don’t act like you don’t know. How did it feel to make love with Barth and lose your virginity to him?
(S)[blush] Oh goodness, I don’t know if I’m ready for that question.
(A)[giggles] From the looks of it, I’d say it was amazing.
(K)Come on, Sarah, I’m dying to know.
(S)[smiles] Well, you’re right, Ash, it was absolutely wonderful. I’m so happy and I don’t even know why. Well, I do know why, but it’s just very overwhelming in a good way. I can’t help but smile and think about what happened. I honestly look forward to our next encounter.
(A)Oh, I bet. It gets better, trust me, Larry changed my life when we first made love.
(K)The same thing happened when Merig and I first made love as well. I haven’t been miserable once since then.
(S)Oh, any misery I felt before we made love has just disappeared. All the wonderful and sweet things he’s said to me have changed how I feel about myself. You and Ash know how cruel people were to me when we were teenagers, and the things they said to me hurt and I started to believe what they told me.
(A)Yeah, and I taught them that it isn't okay to tell lies. You had us there to defend you and tell you how beautiful you are, sweetie. People were just jealous and threatened by your beauty.
(S)I know, but people were cruel to me before I met you and Kate, so my self-esteem was already destroyed. I’m very grateful that you two were there. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t completely miserable. Besides, my dad told me I was beautiful, so that meant a lot as well.
(EM)I’m sorry that happened to you. I know how cruel kids can be. Like I was telling Kate, Ash, and Cormac earlier, as a child, the mothers in this city would gossip about my mother’s death when I was born, and they blamed me for it. So the kids in my school would do the same and I didn’t have any friends because of it.
(S)Oh honey, that’s terrible, that wasn’t your fault at all. My mother passed away when I was young from an illness, so I sympathize.
(EM)I’m sorry for your loss. You all keep telling me it’s not my fault since I got into this friend group.
(K)It’s true, Emerald, you didn’t do anything wrong and kids learn from their parents, and it’s even worse when they learn to be horrible to others as well. Things happen when we least expect it and there’s no one to blame. The women in this city can be gossiping hens and I don’t associate myself with a lot of them, only the ones I’ve helped, and they’re wonderful. Karry has been so nice to me and has even given me discounts before.
(EM)That’s because you helped her before. I remember her singing your praises after that. She really appreciated it.
(A)I heard your dad retired from being a merchant after we saved him from that horde of bandits.
(EM)Yeah, he’s starting to enjoy the vacation, he helps Karry at the produce shop.
(S)That’s good, at least he’s moving around, but he should make sure he doesn’t overdo it.
(EM)That’s what I tell him, but he’s a stubborn one. He kept encouraging me to join the guards like I wanted to. He was concerned about my eye, but I told him it was an accident. Gordo still feels like shit over it.
(K)He will for a while. He really didn’t mean to hurt you.
(EM)That’s what everyone keeps telling me, I’m fine, really. I’m sure Gordo will hang his head in shame again when he sees me like he has been.
(A)He’ll be alright, he really does feel bad.
(K)As long as I’ve known Gordo, even after all the things he did as a bandit, he’s been an amazing person. When he came here to Tara, he changed into a completely different person. He’s caring, and kind, and he just has a big soft side to him. I’m sure he was that way before all the craziness happened in the bandit hideout.
(EM)Yeah, he told me about all of that. I’ve been getting to know him and I think he’s alright. He brought me flowers just before Silvia passed away to apologize.
(S)Oh, that was sweet of him.
(EM)I told him he didn’t have to, but he insisted. I’m gonna miss Silvia. She was a very sweet lady. She was always nice to me when I would visit her to smell the beautiful flowers.
(A)That she was, her beautiful flowers have brought happiness to all of us and even made people fall in love.
(K)I’ve always suspected that her flowers were magic.
(S)Me too, it brought Barth and me closer. I still have that bouquet of periwinkles, but some have wilted, and I still have this necklace he gave me that Silvia made.
(A)Her flowers brought Larry and me closer as well. He brought them to me during my training days when I got hurt and was at the healer.
(K)There were times when Merig brought me flowers before he and I got together. I thought it was the sweetest thing, and even after we got together, he knew I loved them. He got me lavender on my birthday and when they wilted, I used them for tea. Merig had some, and he said it was relaxing.
(EM)That’s beautiful, her flowers made a lot of people happy.
(K)Poor Deirdre, I want to give her a big hug when I see her next.
(S)I’m sure Cormac has been helping her, he’s good to her.
(A)Oh he is, he loves that woman and he’ll do anything for her. Sound familiar, Kate?
(K)[smiles] Yeah, I think all our goblins would do anything for us.
(S)She’s right. Barth is wonderful, and he helps me with anything I need.[blush] I just can’t stop thinking about us making love. He was so sweet and gentle. I just melted into the bed every time he touched me and the sensation I got when he kissed me and my body was…I’m so sorry, I know you all probably don’t want to hear this.
(K)[giggles] No, it’s okay, we don’t mind at all, I think it’s romantic. Tell us all about it. It’s just us women here for now.
(A)Yeah, I wouldn’t mind, it gives us something to talk about and I agree that it’s very romantic to hear. I’m so happy you enjoyed your first time with Barth. It’s a big deal for you.
(S)It really is and I could talk about it all day. I’m so happy about it.
(EM)It’s something to be happy about. Don’t let us stop you from expressing that. We’re all ears.
(S)Thank you, you’re all the best. There’s one thing I’m not sure how to explain because it might be a little embarrassing.
(A)Tell us, I’m curious.
(K)Yeah, how embarrassing can it be?
(S)[blush] Well, it’s about his uh…you know.
(K)[giggles] I know exactly what you’re going to say. I’m assuming he was very gifted.
(S)[blush] Very much so, it felt good and the sound I made when we started to make love was out of my control. It was embarrassing at first, and Barth thought he hurt me. But I told him he didn’t, and that I didn’t want him to stop. We continued, and it felt wonderful and that sound I made just got louder and I couldn’t help myself.
(K)[smiles] Sounds like me when Merig and I first made love. He was the same way, but he didn't hurt me either. He was concerned and asked me after we finished if he hurt me.
(A)Larry’s pretty gifted as well. He was amazing when we first made love and he continues to be amazing in bed. I find myself still trembling after all this time we’ve been together when he touches me.
(K)I’m the same way with Merig, I just can't help it, I still lose myself in his arms and when he’s making love to me. Those red eyes are hypnotic each time he shows them to me. I’m like you, Sarah. I can talk about it all day.
(S)[giggles] Well, we have time until the goblins get here, and I’m sure Deirdre will be here too. We can comfort her when she arrives. I’m sure she’s at the flower shop alone and grieving.
(K)She is. She needs that time alone to grieve, so we should give that to her. She knows she isn’t alone, but I don’t blame her for needing space.
(A)You’re right, she knows we’re here for her if she needs us as well. She’s a sweetheart, and I shed tears for her, thinking about how she feels.
(EM)I’m sure she’s heartbroken the most, and it isn’t any easier on her since she’s pregnant.
(K)I’m sure Silvia wanted to see her get married as well and see her great-grandchild.
(S)I’ll be expecting weekly visits from Deirdre, and you’re due for another one soon, Kate. Nessa said you should be due in two more weeks. I’m sure you’re excited.
(K)Very much so, but I’m curious to know more details about you and Barth. You better hurry and spill the beans before everyone else gets here.
(S)[giggles] Alright, fine, but I warn you, it’ll make you blush.
(A)[giggles] Not as much as it’s made you blush already.
The women's giggles fill the air as Sarah shares more details about her first intimate encounter with Barth, her cheeks flushing a deep pink as she smiles from ear to ear. The other women listen with fascination, their faces aglow with delight and curiosity. Meanwhile, Merig and Larry return to the training grounds, their task of escorting Victoria out of the city complete. They stable their horses and join Cormac and Deirdre, making their way to the pub. As they enter, the group's laughter and chatter envelop them, drawing them to the table like a warm embrace. Cormac and Deirdre take seats beside each other, their hands touching as they exchange a tender glance. Gordo claims the end seat, his eyes drifting to Emerald, who sits opposite him, her gaze meeting his. As predicted, Gordo's face falls, his expression a picture of dismay, and he hangs his head in shame and guilt. Emerald shakes her head, a pitiful look on her face, and sighs, her eyes never leaving Gordo's burdened form. As Merig approaches, Kate's face lights up with a radiant smile, her eyes sparkling with affection. Merig returns the smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he takes the seat beside her. He leans in, his lips brushing against hers in a tender kiss, and Kate's smile deepens, her cheeks flushing with happiness. Barth's enthusiasm is unmistakable as he sits beside Sarah, his eyes shining with excitement. He reaches out, his fingers tracing the curve of Sarah's cheek, and her face tilts up, inviting the touch. Their lips meet in a soft, sweet kiss, and Sarah's eyes drift closed, surrendering to the moment. Larry's arrival is met with Ashley's bright smile, and he takes the seat beside her, his eyes locked on hers. He lifts her hands, his lips grazing the back of them, and Ashley's cheeks pinken with delight. Larry's kiss on her lips is gentle, yet filled with promise, and his flirting tone sends a shiver down her spine as he speaks words meant only for her.
(L)Good afternoon, my beautiful flame. I hope you didn’t miss me too much.
(A)Are you sure you didn’t miss me too much, my love? I know you can’t stand to be apart from me for five minutes.
(L)Oh trust me, I won’t lie. I find myself thinking about you every second that I’m away from you. I can’t imagine being apart from my wife for too long. You’re addictive, your kisses are just intoxicating and I love it. Much better than the drinking I used to do. Now I can’t get enough of you. I always find myself wanting more.
(A)[giggles] Even after we’re married, you still come up with ways to flirt.
(L)Hey, flirting with your wife is essential to a marriage. Flirting with your woman even if she’s not your wife is also essential, right Barth?
(B)That’s right, buddy, I still flirt with Sarah even after all this time of being with her.
(S)[giggles] It’s true, he’s a charmer, and I’ll always love his flirting.
(A)Oh trust me, I’ll always love Larry’s flirting. It’s one of his best traits, among other things.
(L)[smiles] And I can talk about all of your best traits. But I might give away too much information.
(B)Yeah, I don't think we need to know those kinds of details.
(M)We’ve already heard details before, we don’t need to hear them again.
(G)Yeah, we had no choice in the matter, but sadly we can’t stop him.
(B)Along with the flirting, I do find myself fighting back the urge to hug Sarah as tight as I can. But as tiny as she is, I’m afraid I’ll hurt her.
(S)[giggles] You won’t hurt me. I’m not fragile, Barth.
(B)I just can’t risk it, sweetheart, I’m a big goblin. One wrong move and I might break you.
(S)I think I’ll be alright. I’m not that small, am I?
(B)Compared to me, yeah, you’re so dainty and cute. I couldn’t live with myself if I accidentally hurt you when I hug you.
(K)Don’t worry, Merig is the same way with me.
(M)I can’t help it, my moon. I love you too much to risk hurting you. So I’m right there with Barth on that.
(DD)Yeah, Cormac is the same way too. He’s a big goblin compared to me as well. But he’s a big cuddly bear and I love it.
(A)All the goblins are big and strong guys, but Barth and Cormac are the tallest and bulkiest out of all of them. But even Larry worries about hurting me. He’s pretty strong.
(K)Yeah, Merig is too. He’s almost as tall as Barth and Cormac, the same with Larry and Gordo.
(L)We goblins come in all shapes and sizes, just like you lovely women.
(M)But the women are still small to us.
(C)That’s true, Deirdre is petite, I could fit her in my pocket.
(DD)[smiles] You’re silly, but I love you.
(C)I love you too, sunflower.
(B)You’re the shortest out of all the ladies, aren’t you, sis?
(K)Yep, that’s right, five feet even. And I’ve got pretty small hands.
(M)They’re so small compared to mine, I love holding them.
(B)But you have a big heart, sis, we all know that.
(K)[smiles] If you say so, but I’m not the only one.
(G)...How’s your eye feeling, Emerald?
(EM)Much better, other than the bruising that's still there. I see you’re still beating yourself up over it.
(G)[sigh] I’m sorry, I can’t help it, I just feel really horrible still.
(EM)Just let it go, Gordo, once the bruising goes away, we’ll be able to start my training back up. I’m not worried about my eye as much anymore since the swelling went down.
(G)I still want to make it up to you somehow.
(EM)You already have, you bought me lunch this entire time, as well as those flowers you brought me while I was at home. I’m not upset about it, Gordo, I can see how torn up you are about it and I know you’re remorseful. Just please stop beating yourself up over it.
(G)I’m trying really hard.
(EM)[sigh] You’re hopeless. I’m sure once it’s fully healed, you’ll feel better about yourself.
(B)She’s right, Gordo, just move on and stop being so hard on yourself. She doesn’t hate you for it, do you, Emerald?
(EM)No, not at all. I’m actually excited about starting my training again. Besides, the commander said he would implement safety measures so it won’t happen again.
(M)Yep, by the time Emerald’s eye fully heals, I’ll have precautions put in place to prevent you from hurting each other.
(G)[sigh] Alright, you’re right. I’m sorry, I’ll do my best to stop hating myself for it.
(EM)I know you’re trying to make up for it, but just know that I don’t hate you for something that was an accident. I know you didn’t hurt me intentionally.
(G)Thank you, Emerald, I’m glad to hear that.
As Gordo exhales a quiet sigh of relief, he exchanges a warm smile with Emerald, their moment of connection a brief respite from the group's lively chatter. The conversation continues, filling the air with laughter and warmth. Just then, the pub door swings open, and Orla and Merig Senior enter, their faces aglow with warm smiles. The door closes behind them, and they make their way to the table. The group's eyes are drawn to the couple, their conversations halting mid-sentence. As Orla and Merig Senior take their seats beside each other, the group greets them with a chorus of smiles, the atmosphere filled with a sense of welcome and anticipation.
(O)Good afternoon, everyone.
(M)Hey Mom, hey Dad.
(Msr)How is everyone today?
(K)We’re doing alright, for the most part, the baby isn’t as active as he usually is.
(O)I hope everything is okay.
(K)It’s fine, it’s just been quiet here, so he isn’t as active.
(O)I completely understand. Deirdre, sweetheart, how are you feeling?
(DD)I’m doing pretty good, although something happened at the training grounds. All the goblins are witnesses to it.
(O)Oh no, what happened?
(C)Kate, do you remember when I told you all that the woman I was with from back home in Taill was here in Tara?
(K)Yeah, you said she approached you at the agriculture shop.
(C)Well, she followed me to the training grounds and forced me into a conversation I didn’t want to have with her.
(K)Oh boy, what did she do?
(C)The same thing she’s been doing since she visited me in my room at the inn, back in Taill, when we rescued Merig. She tried really hard to get me to forgive her for believing Sean over me, and she said she still loves me.
(K)Of course, she realized she was wrong and was deceived by Sean. He’s a master manipulator, but she still decided to take his word for a lie he created.
(C)That’s what I keep telling her, but she was so hellbent on trying to create a wedge between Deirdre and me and force herself back into my life. I told her that I don’t care about her anymore and that she can’t be in my life if she still feels that way about me, and the fact that she betrayed me. I told her Deirdre was pregnant and that we were getting married, but she didn’t seem to like that. When Deirdre showed up, Victoria tried telling her lies that I told her that I still loved her, among other things. The opposite happened, and she was the one telling me all of that. She tried twisting everything and tried to make me out to be a liar.
(G)Just like Sean did to you.
(C)Exactly, I realized she was no different from Sean, and luckily Deirdre saw right through her.
(DD)She almost had me convinced, but with everything going on, I only started to believe her for a split second.
(A)Almost sounds like what Rachel tried doing. She lied about what Larry said when she first started flirting with him.
(L)Yeah, she was a master manipulator as well.
(C)I’m just glad Deirdre didn’t believe her lies.
(K)You know damn well this woman loves you, and she’s smarter than that, Cormac. She loves you too much to believe that you would tell another woman that you love her.
(DD)Nope, I know Cromac and how much he loves me. I know he would never tell another woman that he loves her. I may be emotionally vulnerable since Gram’s death, but I won’t be fooled, and I wasn’t going to let her turn me against the love of my life. I know in my heart that he would never betray me, just like I wouldn’t betray him.
(C)Thank you for believing in me, sunflower, it means the world to me.
(DD)You believed in me, too, my love, so we’re even. I made a promise to never turn against you or betray you, and I meant it.
(C)Thank you for keeping your promise, my sunflower. I love you so much.
(DD)I love you too, Mic. I’ll always keep my promises to you.
(C)And I’ll do the same.
(O)Well, I’m so glad everything worked out. What happened to the woman?
(M)Larry and I took the liberty of taking her where she was staying so she could collect her things. We then arranged for a cart and horse to take her back to Tailltean. She’s no longer welcome in the city.
(Msr)Good, Deirdre doesn’t need that kind of trouble at a time like this.
(C)Exactly, I want to make sure she doesn’t stress even more than she already is. It’s not good for her or the baby.
(O)You’re good to this woman, Cormac, keep that up.
(C)Of course, she’s been here for me since day one, when I was hurt and she took care of me. She didn’t have to, but she did and she was also there when I was at my worst. It’s now my turn to be here for her when she’s at her worst, too. I’ll do anything for this woman and I owe her everything.
(DD)I owe you everything, too. My love, my body, and now my hand in marriage.
(C)You’ve given me everything I’ve needed, Deirdre. Anything more is an honor. We can’t forget about the tiny goblin in your belly.
(DD)Of course not, you’ve helped me so much not to stress out. I just hope my grieving doesn’t affect my baby. I’d feel terrible if I lost him. His name will be Connor.
(O)What a lovely name for your son. He will be healthy and strong. Don't worry, Deirdre. Just remember, Kate and I are always willing to help you if you need it.
(DD)Right, you're more experienced being a mother to goblins. Kate as well, since she’s about to give birth.
(K)That’s right, two more weeks.
(O)I can’t wait, we mothers have to stick together. Have you and Merig thought of a name for your tiny goblin?
(K)Merig and I have agreed on the name. Nevan, it means “little saint”.
(O)That’s the perfect name. I absolutely love it. What do you think, Merig my love?
(Msr)I think Nevan is a wonderful name, perfect for our grandson.
(M)I thought so too. The queen wants to have a ceremony for when he’s born.
(O)Oh, that would be exciting, can we attend?
(K)Of course, you’re the grandparents and my parents will be there as well. They’ll actually be here next week and you and Merig Senior can meet them.
(O)Oh, I can’t wait, I’d love to meet your parents.
(Msr)It’ll be fun, I look forward to it.
(K)Merig and I plan on having dinner with them when they get here. You’re more than welcome to join us.
(O)I would love to, honey, all of this is so exciting.
(K)They’re going to love meeting you.
(M)Kate’s parents are wonderful, just like her.
(L)It’s true, I can attest. Tom is a badass mage, and he taught Kate.
(K)He just helped me master the basics and some bigger spells. I've mentioned that Barth has been my mentor. We’ve put my training on hold since I got pregnant. He’s been a wonderful mentor.
(B)You give me too much credit, sis. Remember, you taught me some things as well. She helped me master the basics as well, I was lacking in accuracy and casting speed. I’m a true master mage because of her.
(K)Hey, it’s the least I could do since you taught me more powerful spells. And because of that, I was able to rescue my husband.
(O)That’s wonderful. I love how you all met and became one big family, and now we get to be a part of it. Isn’t it wonderful, Merig?
(Msr)It really is, Orla, you’ve all stuck together despite the bad things and I admire that.
(M)That’s what family does, and we’ve all been through a lot.
(K)Especially Deirdre, we’re always here for you, sweetheart.
(DD)[smiles] Thank you so much, Kate, that means the world to me.
(K)Cormac is here too. Don’t forget to hold her tight, Cormac.
(C)I always do, thank you, Kate. I can’t wait to see Tom and Jo. It’s been a while. I’m sure Jo would love to hear that Deirdre is expecting.
(K)Oh, she will love it, and she’ll go nuts over my pregnant belly.
(A)I don’t doubt that. She’s a proud grandma, and I’m sure you are too Orla.
(O)I couldn’t be happier. I want to spoil that child already, and he’s not even here yet. Nevan Flynn, he’ll be perfect.
(M)You’re right about that, Mom, it won’t be long now.
(L)I can’t wait to see Jo and Tom either, we’ll celebrate when they get here.
(G)Hell yeah, it’ll be fun.
(S)Indeed it will, also I came here for lunch before I went back to work.
(B)Of course, I’ll be more than happy to get you something, sweetheart.
(A)Who else is hungry? I’ll go let Sherry know, as usual.
(L)Only hungry for you, my flame.
(A)[sigh] Well, sadly, I’m not on the menu.
(L)Not here, you’re not.[smirk]
(A)[sigh] You know I love you, right?
(L)[smiles] I love you too, gorgeous.
(G)Are you hungry, Emerald? I’ll be happy to treat you again.
(EM)[smiles] Sure, why not? I appreciate it.
(C)Are you hungry, my sunflower?
(DD)A little, just something light. I’m not feeling too well.
(C)Okay, sweetheart, I’ll get you something to drink for your stomach too.
(DD)Thank you, my love, you’re so good to me.
(M)Would you like something for lunch, my moon?
(K)Just the usual, if you don’t mind, my love.
(M)Of course not, I love you.
(K)I love you too, my earth.
(Msr)What about you, Orla, my love?
(O)Yes, dear, I would love to join them for lunch here again.
(Msr)Alright, I’ll be right back as well.
(A)Alright, let’s eat.
The group falls into a familiar rhythm, relaying their food orders to Ashley, who expertly juggles the requests with a warm smile. At the bar, the orders are placed, and the group settles in for a leisurely afternoon of good food and warm company. As they enjoy their meals, laughter and conversation flow freely, filling the pub with a sense of camaraderie. However, as the afternoon wears on, Sarah reluctantly bids the group farewell, duty calling her back to work. The others remain, lingering and continuing their conversation, savoring the warmth of each other's presence. As the evening draws to a close, the group begins to disperse, each member heading off to their respective homes for dinner and relaxing routines. At Orla and Merig Senior’s home, the atmosphere is filled with passion and intimacy. Orla straddles atop Merig Senior, their bodies intertwined as she makes love to him. His strong hands grip her hips, guiding her movements with a sense of urgency and passion as her palms rest on his chest. Their bodies move together in perfect harmony, their breaths coming out in short gasps as they reach new heights of pleasure. After they finish, their bodies lay entwined and naked under a warm blanket, their skin still flushed with desire. Merig Senior pulls Orla close to him, caressing her skin and planting tender kisses on her lips. They continue to caress each other, lost in their own world of pleasure and affection. Eventually, their movements slow and they pause to gaze into each other's eyes. Orla speaks with a soft and sweet voice, expressing her love for Merig Senior in words that only they can understand.
(O)Even after thirty years, you're still a phenomenal lover, so gentle and loving. I still lose myself when you make love to me. Your touch is still so soft and considerate.
(Msr)You're still phenomenal as well, my love. Thirty years is a long time. You’re still so vigorous, and your skin is still so soft, and your lips are intoxicating with every kiss.
(O)[smiles] You still think so highly of me. I figured you would tire of me by now.
(Msr)I could never do that, you’re still so beautiful and bewitching.
(O)As are you, my love, so handsome and charming.
(Msr)And even after thirty years, you still love me as much as you did back then. Still willing to surrender yourself to me.
(O)Of course I am, Merig. I will never stop giving myself to you. I just can’t help myself. I've never lost one ounce of my love for you, and I never will. There will never be a day that goes by when I don't love you. You still love me the same, don't you?
(Msr)Of course, my darling Orla, you'll never hear me say that I don't. You're still as beautiful and as wonderful as you were when I first laid eyes on you. Your soft voice that soothes me, your beautiful brown eyes that hypnotize me, and your smile that still illuminates my dark Fomor soul. You're still my beautiful bow.
(O)[smiles] You still have a way with words, my arrow, so sharp and swift. You always know how to arouse me with your touch and the words you speak so softly to me. Your eyes pierce through me and caress my thoughts with ones of lust and intimacy. Your voice invades my ears and seeps into my soul, telling me sweet nothings until my body trembles and becomes weak. Your touch melts my entire being and makes me submit to you willingly. I could go on all night about it.
(Msr)[chuckles] So could I, and I could touch your naked body all night until we fall asleep.
(O)I would love that so much.
(Msr)I would love that as well.
(O)You know, I’ve been thinking.
(Msr)What is it, my love?
(O)How wonderful is it that our sons have the privilege of experiencing love like we have? Our boys have succeeded in charming their beautiful women, and Kate is already part of the family.
(Msr)I’m very proud of them, Orla, and we’re about to be grandparents to our newest addition.
(O)Kate is such a lovely woman, she will be a wonderful mother. I’m a very proud mother-in-law.
(Msr)And I am a very proud father-in-law. She seems to adore our Merig.
(O)She does, those two remind me so much of you and I. They’re so in love and you can feel it when they’re in the room together and even when they’re apart.
(Msr)Their love definitely seems familiar and I can also feel the love between Barth and Sarah.
(O)Oh yes, she’s a lovely woman as well and they both made love for the first time, which is even more significant.
(Msr)Yes, it is, and I’m so happy that both of our sons found love and wonderful women to share their love with.
(O)I am such a proud mother to be leaving behind a wonderful legacy that will hopefully go on forever. It fills my heart with joy knowing our sons are happy and that they, too, will make an impact on this world.
(Msr)I couldn’t agree more, honey. I’m a very proud father and I’m happy to be reunited with our sons. Destiny has smiled upon them and treated them well.
(O)I can’t wait to meet Kate’s parents. I’m sure they are as wonderful as her like everyone mentioned.
(Msr)I’m sure they are, and we’ll have people as old as us to talk to, won’t we?
(O)It will certainly be a breath of fresh air getting to know them. Kate said her father is also a mage and mentored her to master the basics.
(Msr)I’m sure you’ll have a lot to talk about in that aspect.
(O)Also, it’s very awful what happened to Kate and my heart hurts for her. But living a new life with Merig seems to have made her so happy, and she looks so happy being pregnant.
(Msr)Reminds me of you, you were happy being pregnant as well. But I do agree what that human man did to her was abhorrent, and he’s rotting in prison like he deserves. No woman deserves that treatment and I could never see myself doing something so evil to the woman I love. You are so precious to me, and I would rather end my own life than cause you pain.
(O)As would I, my love, and it seems our Merig has built the same trust with Kate despite what happened to her.
(Msr)The love between them has shattered all fear and pain from Kate and she thinks the world of Merig. They are truly perfect for each other and I am happy that they are happy.
(O)Unconditional love, it’s a powerful thing.
(Msr)That it is, my dear. Our love has conquered everything in our life together. The hatred people had for Fomors did not sway you from being with me and becoming my wife and the mother of our sons.
(O)Nothing and no one in this world can stop me from being with you. They’d have to kill me before I leave your arms.
(Msr)And I’m glad it never came to that.
(O)And it never will, even thirty years later. You are still my arrow, the goblin that charmed me and pierced my heart. I gave myself to you, even though my parents didn’t approve at first. But I didn’t care. I was an adult and could make my own choices. They realized that and came around, eventually. They realized they were wrong about you. Not even they could’ve stopped me from being in your arms.
(Msr)I gave myself to you as well, and I too would rather die than leave your side. My heart and my entire being belong to you, my bow, and now we are in this beautiful city together and living a new life.
(O)We may be getting older, but I feel rejuvenated here. We have our boys, and their women and friends who seem to like us and I like them as well. Ashley and the rest of the women are sweethearts, and so are the other goblins.
(Msr)Agreed, everyone is wonderful and I like them as well.
(O)I’m looking forward to the rest of our days in Tara where we can breathe easy and relax. Maybe you can even join the Royal Guards. Seeing you in armor would make me fall in love with you all over again and surrender to you. You would look so handsome.
(Msr)[chuckles] It’s possible, although I might be a bit old for fighting. I think I still have my skills with my bow and arrow. We’ll see what’s in store for us here. Maybe I can join Merig on the training grounds and I can show him where he inherited his gift as an archer.
(O)Oh, that would be wonderful. I’d love to watch you again. It’ll feel like it did when I was a young woman watching you and being completely mesmerized. You’re still as strong as you were back then.
(Msr)I’ll talk to Merig and see what he thinks about it. I wouldn’t mind becoming a guard alongside my sons. I just hope they’re okay with having me there. I might be a little rusty.
(O)Nonsense, you’re still my strong archer and I’m sure you’ll do wonderfully. It’s also wonderful that our sons have made amends with Cormac and Gordo. I’m sure it was horrible what happened, but Kate brought him back and everything is better for them.
(Msr)I think it’s wonderful too, even if I disagree with what they did, at least they redeemed themselves and became better people. Merig and Barth are adults, and it’s up to them who they have in their lives. Cormac and Gordo became heroes to Kate and Merig and they now protect the city. Barth and Larry remind me of myself and my best friend, Barth. We used to bicker like that as well.
(O)[giggles] I remember it like it was yesterday. I love happy endings and now we get ours after so long. I could shed tears of happiness, but for now, I want us to make love again.
(Msr)I want that too, you’re still so full of energy, my bow.
(O)A bow isn’t of any use without an arrow. I never want us to stop.
(Msr)Neither do I. I love you, my bow.
(O)I love you too, my arrow.
Merig Senior's strong arms wrap tightly around Orla in a strong and loving embrace as he leans in to kiss her. She can feel his body pressing against hers, a sense of familiarity and passion igniting between them. After a moment, the two roll over on the bed, with Merig Senior now on top of Orla. As he pulls away from kissing her, they lock eyes as Merig Senior's turn a familiar crimson, the same shade as their son's when in a primordial goblin state. Orla can't help but smile, elated to see her husband's enchanting gaze, with that same devilish grin also mirroring their son's. Their bodies entwined as Merig Senior's hands roam, caressing Orla's bare skin, leaving trails of kisses and tasting her with eager lips. She responds to his touches and kisses, feeling desired and loved. Eventually, Merig Senior pauses to meet her gaze once again, the mutual desire burning bright between them. Orla wraps her arms around him, holding on tight as Merig Senior continues to make love to his beloved wife. Soft sighs and moans escape their lips, lost in the ecstasy of their lovemaking. Afterward, they lay in each other's embrace in the aftermath, hypnotized by each other's vulnerable gaze, still naked. As the night slowly fades away, they hold onto each other until eventually drifting off into a peaceful slumber, content in each other's love and passion.
