A Star is Born

As the moments tick by, Nessa and Sarah's faces grow increasingly somber, their eyes filled with a deepening anguish. Despite their best efforts, Kate remains still, unresponsive. The weight of their failure settles upon them, as Nessa's gaze meets Sarah's, their eyes locking in a moment of shared despair. Nessa's voice cracks as she turns to the group, her head shaking, her eyes welling up with tears.

(N)She’s gone, she’s not waking up.

(B)No, no no no, sis.

(A)That can’t happen. Nevan needs his mother!

(S)We’ve done all we can, Ash, I’m sorry.

(J)[sobs] My baby, she’s gone. Tom, they couldn’t save her.

(T)[sobs] No, pumpkin.

(DD)What do we do? I want to help her.

(O)So do I, dear, but I don’t think we can do anything more.

(C)We have to keep trying, we can’t lose her.

(G)This isn’t fair. What happened to her?

(N)There’s no telling, the birth could’ve been too much for her body.

(L)So her body just gave up?

(Msr)Most likely her heart did.

(EM)That’s what happened to my mother. Her heart gave out after I was born. This feels just like when that happened, from what my dad and Karry told me.

(M)My wife…she’s dead. Is my son okay?

(A)He’s fine, luckily he’s calmed down.

(S)Here, Merig, be with your wife.

Sarah rises from the bed, her body trembling with grief, and rushes into Barth's arms. They cling to each other, their tears mingling as they share a heart-wrenching embrace. Merig sinks back into the chair, his body wracked with sobs, as he tenderly cradles Kate's lifeless form. His fingers gently caress her cheeks, his touch a mournful expression of his love and loss. The room dissolves into a sea of sorrow, as the group comes together to mourn Kate's passing. Couples cling to each other, their bodies shaking with convulsive sobs, as they struggle to come to terms with their loss. Merig's voice cracks as he whispers to Kate's still form, his words a desperate plea to a love that has been silenced forever. His body shudders with each sob, his heart shattered into a million pieces as he holds his wife's lifeless body close.

(M)[sobs] Kate, please don’t leave me. I’ll be miserable without you, just like you said when I died in your arms. Please come back to me, I need you, our son needs you, I’m begging you. I love you so much, my moon. You’re everything to me. Please wake up, sweetheart.

(S)[sobs] I’m so sorry, Merig, we tried saving her.

(B)It’s okay, Sarah, you did all you could, sweetheart.

(N)I’m so sorry, Merig, I did not expect something like this to happen.

(M)[sniffles] It’s not your fault. Like Barth said, you did everything you could.

(L)[sniffles] It’ll be okay, pal, we’re here for you.

(A)Nevan is here too. He needs his dad.

(O)She’s right, but he needs to mourn first.

(Msr)We’ll mourn with you, son. We know how much she meant to you.

(DD)We know how much you loved her, and no one else could ever love her the way you did, and as much as you did.

(J)We loved her, of course. She was our daughter. But you loved her in ways we could never truly understand.

(T)That’s right, Merig, you meant a lot to her too.

(C)I’m sorry, Merig, I wish there was something I could do.

(DD)It’s okay, Mic, we all wish there was something we could do.

(EM)[sniffles] My heart breaks for you, Merig. I never knew who my mother was. It breaks my heart to know Nevan won’t either.

(G)It’ll be okay, Emerald. We’ll be here to help raise him. He’ll still be loved, no matter what.

(N)We can give you some time if you’d like, Merig.

(M)No, I need you all here. I don’t want to mourn alone.

(N)Okay, we’re here. Everyone is shedding tears for you.

(B)We’re not leaving you, little brother, you need us.

(L)Just keep holding her. You say your goodbyes first and then we will.

(M)Thank you all, it means a lot.

The group's collective sobs gradually subside, replaced by an anguished silence, as they respectfully allow Merig a moment to bid his final farewell to Kate. Merig's gaze sweeps the room, his eyes locking onto each tear-stained face, before returning to Kate's serene, yet lifeless, features. A heart-wrenching smile trembles on his lips, his eyes brimming with tears, as he focuses on the love they've shared. With tender reverence, Merig's hand cradles Kate's cheek, his fingers tracing the contours of her face, as if memorizing every detail. His lips brush against her forehead, a gentle, loving kiss, as he whispers his final words to her.

(M)Kate, my moon, I’m sorry we couldn’t save you. I’ll always love you, and so will everyone else. I’ll take care of Nevan. Don’t worry, I’ll be the best father he deserves. I’ll never forget anything we’ve been through together. I was sure we would be together forever, but I guess I don’t get that luxury. I’ll do my best to continue living my life. I have to for Nevan. I can’t let him see me like this. I know you wouldn’t want me to live a life of anguish, but I’ll miss you painfully. I was so happy when you confessed that you loved me and when you agreed to marry me. It was all worth it to me, every minute of it. When you told me you were pregnant with Nevan, I was over the moon and I couldn’t wait. I just never thought that I would lose you and I’m sorry, Kate. I love you so much, please come back to me. I'll do anything, just don’t leave me.[sobs] I can’t bring myself to say goodbye to her. I’m sorry.

(B)Don’t be sorry, little brother, these goodbyes are the hardest.

(M)[sobs] This wasn’t supposed to happen. Please come back to me, Kate. If any god out there can hear me, please bring my wife back to me. I need her. I need my moon. I’m her earth and I’m nothing without her. The earth is out of balance without the moon. My light is gone. It’s so dark. Please, I'm begging you.

Merig's arms encircle Kate's limp form, holding her close as his body shudders with uncontrollable sobs. Tears erupt from his eyes, cascading down his face like a torrent of grief. Ashley cradles Nevan, trying to comfort his wails, as Larry envelops her in a warm embrace, and they weep together, their bodies shaking in unison. Sarah's sobs are muffled against Barth's chest, while Orla and Merig Senior cling to each other, their faces bathed in tears. Joanna and Tom's eyes are red-rimmed, their faces etched with pain, as they mourn the loss of their daughter. Deirdre and Cormac, Emerald and Gordo, all shed tears, their faces contorted in anguish, as they struggle to come to terms with their loss. Nessa stands alone, her body wracked with sobs, as she mourns the loss of her dear friend. The room resonates with the sounds of despair, a haunting melody of sorrow, as Merig struggles to bid farewell to his beloved wife. He rocks back and forth, holding Kate close, his heart continuing to weigh heavy, as he pours out his grief. Despair and anguish envelop the group, shrouding them in a dark cloud of sorrow, as they continue to weep and mourn the loss of their beloved Kate. They cling to hope, praying for a miracle, any miracle, to save her. Just as all seems lost, a faint, golden light begins to emanate from the star pendant on Kate's necklace, the gift from Ingo. The glow grows brighter, illuminating the somber room with an ethereal radiance. Ashley, still cradling Nevan, notices the glow out of the corner of her eye, her gaze drawn to Kate's still form. Confusion etches her face as she beholds the shining pendant, her eyes darting to Merig, who remains oblivious, lost in his grief. Ashley's voice trembles as she speaks, trying to rouse Merig from his anguish, her words barely audible over the sound of her own sobs.

(A)Merig, look!

Merig's gaze shifts to Ashley, her expression a mix of confusion and hope. He loosens his tight embrace, pulling Kate's lifeless form away from his chest. As he does, his eyes widen in wonder, fixed on the glowing necklace. The room falls silent, all attention drawn to the radiant pendant as if mesmerized by its golden light. Suddenly, a delicate wisp of light materializes above Kate's bed, its ethereal form dancing across the room with an otherworldly grace. The group's collective breath catches as they watch, gazes fixed, as the wisp floats away, disappearing behind the partition curtain. The glow lingers for a fleeting moment, casting a mysterious light on the faces of the onlookers, before dissipating into silence. But the stillness is short-lived, as the sound of footsteps echoes through the room, growing louder with each passing moment. Curiosity gets the better of the group, their attention now focused on the source of the footsteps, their minds racing with questions. From behind the group, a vision of loveliness emerges, her presence as unexpected as it is captivating. The woman's skin is a radiant, porcelain-like complexion, complemented by her snowy white hair, which cascades down the side of her head in two flowing pigtails, like rivers of moonlight. Her attire is a masterful blend of elegance and mystery, a long black dress adorned with intricate patterns, complemented by shoes that seem to whisper elegance with every step. A gold torque ring encircles her neck, a subtle yet regal touch that completes her enchanting ensemble. As she approaches the bed, the group's collective gaze follows her, their faces reflecting a mix of surprise and curiosity. Merig, still holding Kate's lifeless body, looks up at the woman with a mix of wonder and sorrow, his eyes wide with tears. The woman's soft, blue eyes meet Merig's, her smile gentle and comforting, as she speaks in a voice like melodic honey, filling the space with warmth and serenity.

(Nao)I have been called upon to bring life to the deceased. That woman you're holding, she’s in need of life.

(M)...Yes, she’s my wife, and she just gave birth to our son. I am a Fomor, but please, help her.

(Nao)[giggles] It doesn't matter to me whether you are human or Fomor. I give life back to all who call upon me. That pendant your wife possesses, that’s what has summoned me here. Kate came to me and told me everything. I heard all of your cries and pleas so I came here as quickly as possible. My name is Nao. I am a goddess that can help you.

(M)Will you bring my wife back?

(Nao)[nods] That is what I am here to do, goblin. Merig is your name?

(M)Yes, Kate is my wife and I love her very much.

(Nao)[smiles] I sense it, true love, you both have a strong bond. I will resurrect her.

(M)...[smiles] Thank you, goddess.

(N)May you both live a long and happy life together with your son and wife.

Nao glides forward, her movements graceful, as she approaches Merig, who still cradles Kate's lifeless form. With tender reverence, Nao leans down, her hand extended, and gently places it on Kate's chest, above her heart. As she closes her eyes, a warm, golden light emanates from her hand, enveloping Kate's entire body in its radiance. The glow intensifies, imbuing the air with otherworldly energy, as Nao's hand remains poised, channeling the life-giving force. With a gentle smile, Nao opens her eyes and straightens up, backing away from the bed as the golden light lingers, casting a warm ambiance. Then, as suddenly as it began, the light fades, leaving behind a miracle. Kate's eyes flutter open, and she gasps, her chest rising as she draws in a shuddering breath. Life has returned to her still form, as her gaze meets Merig's, and a soft, sweet smile spreads across her face. Merig's eyes widen in wonder, his face alight with joy, as he gazes at Kate, his heart overflowing with emotion. The group surrounding them shares in awe, their faces reflecting disbelief, wonder, and elation. Kate's voice, barely above a whisper, speaks directly to Merig's heart, her words dripping with love and tenderness, as the room resonates with the miracle of her rebirth.

(K)Hello, handsome.

(M)My moon, you came back to me.

(K)I did. It seems familiar, doesn’t it?

(M)[smiles] Yeah it does, Nao brought you back.

(K)I know, I saw her and talked to her. Thank you, Nao.

(Nao)[smiles] It was my pleasure, Kate, your family and friends seem to love you here.

(J)Yes, of course, we do. She’s impacted everyone here.

(C)It’s true, she’s even turned villains into heroes by bringing light into their hearts.

(DD)I met the love of my life because of her.

(M)I fell in love with Kate the second I laid eyes on her.

(G)I bettered myself because of her.

(B)She became a part of my family. She’s my sister-in-law.

(S)She’s my best friend. She helped me see the beauty in myself.

(A)[smiles] She’s my best friend as well. Because of her, I wasn’t alone.

(L)She makes Merig happy. He’s my best friend.

(O)Kate is our wonderful daughter-in-law.

(Msr)Thank you for saving her.

(J)She’s our daughter.

(T)Thank you for bringing my pumpkin back.

(EM)She and everyone here became my friends when no one else would.

(M)We all love and appreciate her and vice versa. We can’t thank you enough for bringing her back to us. Now we can raise our son together.

(Nao)[smiles] You have a beautiful family here. It was wonderful meeting you all, but I have to go now. Take care of each other and your goblin son. Nevan is his name?

(K)Yes, he’s very precious to us.

(Nao)You told me your story, I understand. You are blessed with a very healthy son, so I would love to bless you and him, as well as your husband and everyone here.

(M)You would bless a Fomor?

(Nao)As I said before, it matters not if you’re a human or a Fomor. As long as your heart is in the right place, you are worthy.

(M)[smiles] Thank you again, Nao, you brought my wife back to me.

(Nao)I must be going. May your life be full of love and light and those closest to you.

Nao's face radiates serenity as she smiles, her eyes closing in gentle reverence. Her hands come together in a graceful gesture, and a brilliant flash of light envelops the room, bathing everyone in its warm, golden radiance. The group, including little Nevan, begins to glow with a soft, ethereal light, as if infused with an inner warmth and joy. As they gaze at one another, their faces reflect a deep sense of happiness, tears of joy streaming down their cheeks, replacing the sorrow that once filled their hearts. Their attention turns to Nao, who begins to fade like a whisper, her form dissolving into the light until she vanishes from sight. The golden glow surrounding them gently dissipates, leaving behind a sense of peace and wonder. The group continues to exchange warm smiles, their eyes shining with happiness, as they turn their attention to Kate, who lies on the bed, her eyes locked on Merig's. Ashley's voice breaks the gentle silence, her words filled with emotion.

(A)Kate, you’re back, it’s almost hard to believe.

(K)It’s almost like we’ve done this before.

(L)Yeah, I’m having déjà vu at the moment.

(B)It’s good to have you back, sis.

(K)It’s good to be back.

(A)I’m sure you want to meet your son.

(K)[smiles] Yes I do, bring me, my baby, please.

Ashley approaches Kate, gently cradling little Nevan in his blanket, and lovingly hands him over to his mother. Kate sits up, her arms outstretched, and tenderly receives her child, cradling him close to her heart. Merig gazes adoringly at the pair, his face aglow with happiness, as Kate and Nevan share a touching moment. Kate's eyes lock onto her child's, her finger tracing Nevan's little puffy cheeks, as his tiny hands instinctively reach out, grasping onto her finger. Their eyes meet, and a radiant smile spreads across Kate's face, mirrored by Nevan's own tiny smile. The room is bathed in the warmth of this tender exchange, as the group bears witness to the joyous reunion. Tears of joy flow freely, mingling with the smiles on their faces, as the onlookers absorb the beauty of this moment.

(K)Hi Nevan, mama’s here. I’m so sorry I was gone, but I’m here now. I love you, my baby. We’ve been waiting to meet you. Daddy, would you like to hold your son?

(M)[smiles] Absolutely.

Kate's smile radiates warmth as she gently hands Nevan to Merig, who receives him with tender reverence. Merig's arms envelop his son, cradling him close to his heart, as he gazes lovingly at Nevan's tiny form. His fingers softly caress Nevan's delicate head and droopy goblin ears, his touch filled with wonder and adoration. Nevan's tiny hands reach out once again, grasping Merig's finger, and he looks up at his father with a gentle smile. Merig's face mirrors his son's, his eyes shining with happiness, as he smiles back at Nevan. Tears of joy begin to fall, streaming down Merig's face, as he holds his newborn son close, his voice barely above a whisper. Merig's soft words speak directly to Nevan's heart, a gentle stream of love and devotion, as he welcomes his child to the world.

(M)Hi Nevan, it’s your dad, I’m so glad you’re here and I finally get to meet you. You gave your mom some trouble, but that’s okay. What matters is that you’re both here with me. I’ll take care of you and your mother, so you don’t have to worry about anything.

(A)Part of me wants to give you a big hug, Kate, but I know you’re in some pain after giving birth.

(K)Yeah, I may be alive, but I’m sore, that’s for sure.

(J)You had your mama worried sick, baby.

(K)I’m sorry Mom, I just felt this pain in my chest, and the next thing I knew, I was in this place. It was full of light and I saw owls flying. It was so strange. I thought it was just a dream, or maybe heaven.

(B)Whatever it was, you’re back, and that’s all that matters like Merig said.

(C)We should probably give them some alone time. Kate needs to rest.

(Msr)He’s right and I’m sure Nevan is hungry. He’ll need to nurse.

(T)Of course, we’ll be on the other side of the curtain. I love you, pumpkin. I’m glad you’re okay.

(K)I love you too, Dad, and all of you for being here. I’m sorry I scared you all.

(G)Don’t be sorry, Kate, it wasn’t your fault.

(EM)Things happen, remember? It’s good that you're alive. I’m grateful Nao could revive you. That necklace the bandits gave you must have been able to summon her.

(K)Again, I’ll have to thank Ingo when he attends the ceremony. It's safe to say that he saved my life.

(L)Come on, let’s give them some space. We love you both. I’m happy you’re okay, Kate.

(K)[smiles] Thanks, Larry, that means a lot. Ash, Mom, and Orla can stay. Nessa and Sarah too. Thank you all for being here.

(B)Of course, sis, we wouldn’t miss this for the world. We love you.

(K)I love you all too.

(S)We’re so glad Nao brought you back.

(DD)Me too. I wondered if that was a dream, but you’re alive, so it must be real.

(C)I don’t even know what to say. I’m glad you’re okay.

(G)You had me scared there for a while.

(EM)I think you scared everyone, even me.

(O)Hi Kate, how are you feeling, dear?

(K)I feel sore, but I’m okay.

(DD)Just relax and get comfy. We’ll see you in a while.

(K)You can stay, too, Deirdre, if you’d like.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

(DD)[smiles] Okay, I’ll see you in a while, Mic, I love you.

(C)I love you too, sunflower.

Cormac and Deirdre share a soft, sweet kiss before he and the other males, accompanied by Emerald, respectfully exit the partition, waiting patiently on the other side of the curtain once again. Meanwhile, Ashley, Joanna, Deirdre, Orla, Nessa, and Sarah form a supportive circle around Kate, with Joanna sitting beside her, offering a comforting presence. Ashley and Nessa head to the sink to gently wash away the remnants of blood and birth, as Orla steps forward with a warm smile, offering her expertise to help Nevan latch onto Kate's breast. With Merig's gentle guidance, Kate takes Nevan in her arms, tenderly unbuttoning her dress to reveal one breast. Orla's skilled hands assist, guiding Nevan to find his mark, and he successfully attaches, beginning to nurse from his mother. Nevan's tiny hands grasp onto Kate's skin, holding tight as he feeds, his eyes closed in serene contentment. Kate and Orla exchange warm, knowing smiles, basking in the joy of this precious moment. The room is filled with the soothing sounds of Nevan's nursing, a heartwarming serenade that brings smiles to the faces of all who witness it. As Nevan feeds, his tiny body relaxes, his face peaceful, his hands still clutching onto Kate. The women surrounding them can't help but be enchanted by the tender scene, their hearts filled with warmth and happiness.

(J)He’s so precious, and he seems to love Merig already.

(O)I’m sure you were happy when he smiled at you. I bet you instantly fell in love.

(M)[chuckles] Yeah, I did, he is my son after all. I helped create him and he’s now in this world with us. I couldn’t be more happy, and I’m glad Kate is alive again.

(K)I know, my love, I’m so sorry.

(M)You don’t have to be. Nothing else matters right now but you and Nevan.

(K)You’re right, my earth, our son is here, and that’s all I care about at this moment.

(M)Agreed, I’ll be right here still. I promised I wasn’t going anywhere.

(O)We’re here too, dear. I’m here to help if you need it and so is your mom.

(J)That’s right, baby girl, my grandson is so beautiful. I love him, he’s perfect.

(A)That he is, I’ll need to finish cleaning you up, okay, sweetie?

(K)Alright, I know I’m a mess right now. I’m still sweaty and my voice is a little hoarse. I wonder if Nessa wants to keep me here overnight.

(N)[smiles] I do still want to keep an eye on you. A day or two shouldn’t hurt.

(S)I’ll stay overnight. Don’t worry, Nessa.

(K)Fine by me. Thank you, Sarah.

(S)Of course, that’s what I’m here for.

(M)I’ll go home and change out of my armor and come back here to stay with you, okay, sweetheart?

(K)Okay, my love, Mom and Orla can stay until you get back. I’m sure Deirdre would want to go home after a while.

(DD)I hope that’s okay, we’ll be back tomorrow to visit and I’m sure everyone else wants to do the same.

(O)I’m sure you want to rest for a little bit, dear.

(K)Yeah, I’m a little tired after all that. I’m sure Nevan will fall asleep while he feeds.

(N)I have a bassinet ready when he’s done.

(K)Thank you, Nessa. You’re the best.

(N)Anything to help, hon, congratulations to you and Merig. You’re a family now. It’s a beautiful sight to see.

(A)You’re right about that, I might shed some more tears.

(K)[smiles] As long as they’re happy tears this time.

(A)Of course, this is a happy time. I can’t wait to hold him, so he knows who his auntie is.

(K)[giggles] I’m sure it’ll be okay after he has a nap.

(M)Just lay back and relax, sweetheart. I’ll be here.

(K)Okay, my love, thank you for being here.

(M)Of course, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. I love you, my moon.

(K)[smiles] I love you too, my earth. Our star is here, and he’s bright and beautiful.

(M)[smiles] That he is.

Kate and Merig's eyes meet, their smiles mirroring each other's joy, as they savor their newfound happiness. Merig leans in, his lips brushing against Kate's forehead in a soft, gentle kiss. He then rests his head on hers, their faces touching, as they close their eyes, savoring the serenity of the moment. Together, they revel in the peaceful atmosphere, their hearts filled with love and contentment, as Nevan continues to nurse, his tiny hands still clutching onto Kate. They are oblivious to the world around them, leaving only the gentle sounds of their child's feeding, and the warmth of their love for each other. Days pass, and the healer's care is a haven for Kate, Merig, and Nevan. Sarah keeps a watchful eye on Kate, ensuring her recovery is smooth and swift. Finally, the moment arrives for Merig to take his loved ones home, to start their new life together. With Nevan snug in his arms and Kate by his side, Merig embarks on this new journey, filled with hope, love, and promise. ONE WEEK LATER. The day of the ceremony has finally arrived, and the throne room is abuzz with excitement. The closest friends and family of Kate and Merig have gathered to welcome little Nevan, including Kate's parents and the rest of the group. Ingo, true to his promise, stands among them, a warm smile on his face. The room is filled with anticipation as Kate and Merig, beaming with pride, stand front and center, cradling their precious newborn. Queen Eirawen steps forward, her regal presence commanding attention. Her smile is warm and genuine as she extends her hands, beckoning Kate to entrust her with Nevan. Kate gently places her child in the queen's arms, and Eirawen cradles him with tender care. She gazes down at Nevan, her eyes shining with delight, before stepping back to address the gathering. The room falls silent, all eyes fixed on Eirawen as she begins to speak. The queen's voice rings out clear and strong, her words dripping with warmth and wisdom, as she welcomes Nevan to the world, and to their community. The ceremony is about to begin, and the room is electric with joy and anticipation.

(E)Hello everyone, I would like to thank you all for joining me in welcoming our newest beloved citizen of this city. Son of Kate Flynn and Sir Merig Flynn, Commander of the Royal Guards of Tara. This little one will be very much loved by the people, as well as me and his own family. This precious child is very special and everyone in this beautiful city will know as much. He will be recognized by all as Nevan Flynn. By the power vested in me as the queen, I welcome him into my city, and may he prosper and live a long and healthy life here. We are lucky and thankful to have his mother alive and well, and she and the rest of the family and friends have been blessed. I, too, give them my blessing as the queen and as a friend. Join me in this ceremony as we welcome this child into our lives. I have a gift for him, a brooch in the shape of a star. Hello little Nevan, we are so grateful that you are here. You are now known as The Star of Tara, created by the earth and birthed by the moon. I will let all of Tara know that a star has been born, rise, our shining star, and be recognized!

Eirawen's gaze descends upon Nevan, and her face radiates warmth as she smiles at the tiny, precious goblin. Nevan, sensing her attention, looks up at her with an adorable grin, his tiny hands reaching out to grasp her fingers. Eirawen's eyes sparkle with delight as she gently pins the star brooch onto his baby blanket. With tender care, Eirawen lifts Nevan up, as if he were a precious treasure for all to see. The room erupts into applause as she presents the little goblin child to the assembly, his curious gaze scanning the faces around him. Nevan's smile widens, basking in the attention, as the group showers him with admiration and affection. As the ceremony concludes, the assembly makes its way to the grand banquet hall, where a sumptuous feast awaits. The room is filled with the savory aromas of roasting meats, freshly baked bread, and steaming vegetables, teasing the senses and building anticipation. The group and their guests indulge in the bounty, savoring each bite as they mingle, laugh, and dance to the lively music. As the evening unfolds, Nevan becomes the star of the show, with everyone clamoring to meet the little goblin child. Coos and gasps of delight fill the air as he charms the crowd with his big eyes and toothless grin. Kate and Merig beam with pride as they introduce their little one to the world, relishing in the joy and warmth of the gathering. As the meet and greets come to a close, Kate and Merig settle into their seats, Nevan snug in Kate's arms. She tenderly drapes a baby blanket over her shoulder, covering herself along with Nevan, creating a cozy haven for him as he breastfeeds. The rest of the group sits at the table with them, sharing stories, laughter, and memories as they dine and converse. At this moment, all's right with the world, and the future looks bright.

(K)Sorry about the breastfeeding, everyone.

(B)Don’t even worry about it, sis, you’re the mother, so it’s your job. We won’t shame you for it.

(O)Absolutely not, dear. If anyone has anything to say about it, they can come to your mother-in-law. I’ll tell them where to go.

(K)[giggles] Thank you, Orla, I appreciate it. Also, thank you all for being here. It really means a lot to me. I know I scared you all at the healer, during the delivery and I’m sorry.

(J)Don’t apologize, honey, things happen and we are just glad you’re alive.

(T)Your dad was worried there for a while when I saw you were gone. That’s a parent’s worst nightmare, and we almost lived it. We love you, pumpkin, don’t ever be sorry for things that are out of anyone’s control.

(EM)That’s what you all told me about my mother’s death.

(L)Your dad is right, Kate. You remember what you said after Merig was revived. What matters is that you’re alive and well and it’s a miracle.

(C)We’re very grateful that you were brought back, just like Merig was.

(G)It seems you weren’t meant to die, Kate. Fate has more in store for you. At least that’s how I see it.

(DD)That’s how I see it too. You have a purpose here and it’s taking care of Nevan and raising him to be just like you and Merig.

(EM)Things happen for a reason, remember? Whether good or bad, it seems something good happened, so that Nevan has a mother. The same thing can’t be said for all who lose their parents and can’t bring them back, but I guess that happens for a reason as well. It’s up to us to figure that out and continue living our lives.

(S)That’s right, we couldn’t save my mother from the illness no matter what we did. Magic is powerful in this world, but unfortunately, not everyone possesses the magic needed to save lives. It was only by chance that you had an item that called upon divine aid to bring you back.

(K)Yeah, that reminds me, I have to personally thank Ingo for his gift. I kind of have a feeling he gave that to us just in case something happened.

(A)It’s possible. It’s odd that he gave it to you the day you went into labor.

(M)That could’ve just been a coincidence, but knowing how things have gone in our lives, I’m not completely skeptical.

(O)But Emerald is right, things happen for a reason, so it’s best not to question it.

(Msr)The reason has revealed itself already, and the proof is sitting right here in Kate’s arms while she feeds him.

(K)[smiles] You’re absolutely right, Merig Senior and he is my reason for living. Figuratively and quite literally, if that is why fate allowed me to live again. But we have Nao to thank as well. She brought me back to life and I’m grateful to her.

(B)We all are, sis. We don’t know what we would’ve done without you. But most of all, we don’t know what Nevan would’ve done without his mother. But again, you’re here, that’s all that matters, and I’m just excited to get to know my nephew. He’s precious. You two did a wonderful job creating him and you’re doing a wonderful job taking care of him already.

(K)Thanks, Uncle Barth, you’ll be a wonderful uncle.

(B)[sigh] There you go again, pulling at my heartstrings, sis.

(K)[smiles] But hey, it’s worth it, isn’t it?

(B)[smiles] Absolutely it is. It's worth every second that he’s here.

(J)That’s right, and soon, your father and I will be here watching him grow.

(T)We want to look at homes tomorrow. Would you like to come with us, pumpkin?

(K)I’d love to, Dad, and I’ll bring Merig with me. He’s taking some time off from the guards, Eirawen has approved of it. She said she wouldn't expect him not to, and that her orders are clear that he take time off to spend with Nevan and me.

(L)Don’t you worry, your old pal Uncle Larry will take care of everything. All I want is to see that little rascal when I get the chance.

(K)Of course, Larry, I’ll be at the pub as much as possible when we aren’t at home. I just hope Nevan doesn’t get fussy at the pub with a bunch of people.

(A)As long as he has his mama, he’ll be fine. But I think you should give yourself some time at home first. Spend all the time you can with your son.

(K)That was my plan. I’m still a little tired from giving birth. My belly has stretch marks on it now and it’s a little sore. He’s a baby, but he’s not tiny, as you can see.

(DD)Oh, he’s a big and healthy boy. I’m sure Connor will be that big when he’s born. I expect my belly to be as big as yours was.

(C)I wouldn’t be surprised. I can’t wait to see it, though.

(DD)I just hope everything goes well for me. That’s not to say I wasn’t worried about you, Kate, ‘cause I was, but you know what I mean.

(K)[smiles] Don't worry, Deirdre, I know what you meant, and I do hope everything goes well for you too, hon. If anything happened to you, I would worry just as you all did for me. I don’t wish anything bad to happen to you, but every situation is different, so your birth will be a success, I’m sure of it.

(C)She’s right, we have to be positive about it, sweetheart. I’m sure everything will go smoothly. But for now, we have the wedding to plan.

(DD)Of course, my love, everything is perfect again.

(K)I couldn’t agree more, Deirdre. I’m just tired for now. But I have enough energy to spend time with you all, so I’m not going to turn in just yet. Surprisingly, Nevan hasn’t been too needy. He’s been sleeping through the nights since he came home and the feeding schedule has been going really smoothly. He takes his naps throughout the day and he’s just all-around a calm baby, which I should be thankful for.

(O)Merig was the same way. He was a quiet child when he was born.

(B)Was I quiet?

(O)You were very energetic, but you were still well-behaved. You cried a lot when you were first born, but as time went on, you calmed down.

(K)I guess every child is different, but it seems this one is a reflection of his father, so I guess that’s a good thing.

(Msr)I noticed Merig was a reflection of myself. That’s why he’s my namesake.

(O)When we first saw him after so long, that became evident and we saw he grew into a wonderful person and we see that.

(Msr)That's right, that goes for Barth as well. Our sons are perfect, just like we knew they would be.

(K)I couldn’t agree more. Nevan is perfect as well.

(A)How has he been with Merig?

(K)Oh, he loves his daddy, Merig will hold him and Nevan just loves it. He’ll reach his little hands for Merig and it’s so precious. Merig will give him a gentle hug, and Nevan is just so happy. He’s happy when I hold him too, but there’s no one like his father. After a while, he’ll fall asleep in Merig’s arms, and looking at it just makes my heart melt.

(A)That is so adorable, I want one someday.

(L)I guess we better start trying if that’s the case.

(A)[smiles] I guess so. It’s been this long and I still haven’t gotten pregnant. Maybe I just have to prepare better.

(O)I know just what to do to help you. You’re more than welcome to talk to me and I’ll give you all the information that helped me get pregnant when Merig and I first started trying. You’ll need to see Nessa so she can give you what you’ll need.

(A)I’ll definitely do that. I do want to start trying soon.

(L)Our son will be perfect too, just like his mother.

(A)[smiles] No, he’ll be perfect like his father.

(L)It’s a good thing your parents like me. I’m sure they’ll appreciate having a grandson. At least I would hope so.

(A)They will, whether they approve of you or not, it’s not up to them. I think we’ve learned that lesson lately and I understand it more.

(J)We told Kate and Merig that they didn’t need our approval to get married. They didn’t need our permission to fall in love, either. You should love whoever treats you with love and kindness.

(T)That’s right, Jo, we weren’t going to tell them that they couldn’t get married. Not that we would have in the first place, because that wasn’t our place to say so.

(DD)Despite how my parents felt, I didn’t leave Cormac, because the opinion of my parents and other family members meant nothing to me. I’m going to stay by his side and marry him regardless of what anything says or thinks. I love him and I won’t ever leave him.

(C)I won’t ever leave you either, sunflower. No one can tell me I can’t be with you.

(DD)No one can tell me I can’t be with you either, Mic, I don’t listen to anyone.

(K)That’s right, I didn't listen to my Aunt Sharon, and I’m sure she’s seething over it and the fact that I’ve chosen to give birth to Nevan.

(A)Oh, I’m sure she is. She’ll get over herself, that damn witch.

(S)I told my dad about Barth and he’s more than supportive of our relationship.

(B)I was really surprised about it too. I’m sure I’ll meet him one day.

(S)He wants to come and see me soon, so you’ll get to meet him.

(B)I won’t lie, I’m a little nervous.

(S)Don’t be. Just like Kate’s parents, my dad is very accepting of Fomors. You have nothing to worry about, sweetheart.

(B)[sigh] Alright, my rabbit, I’ll try to be calm enough to talk to him.

(S)I’m sure you’ll be just fine. He can even meet your parents.

(O)We would love to meet your father, Sarah. Maybe he too can move to Tara.

(S)I’ve actually mentioned it, but he wants to stay home in Taill, which is fine by me.

(A)I talked to my parents as well, but they're comfortable in Taill too.

(L)Well, if they ever want to visit at least, we’re going to have to get a bigger table at the pub.

(K)[giggles] That’s true, that’s okay though, they’re more than welcome to join us when they do visit.

(M)Yeah, I don’t see why not, there’s always room.

(K)...Oh, it looks like Nevan is done feeding, now it’s time for the burping.

(A)[smiles] You’re a wonderful mother already, Kate. Don’t let anyone tell you any differently.

(K)[smiles] I’ll do my best, but I don’t think I'll be the best mother in the world.

(O)We don’t think we’re the best, but the only opinion that matters is your son’s. When he gets older and can tell you that you’re the best mother in the world, then you’ll know that you are.

(J)You told me that when you were just a toddler and it tugged at my heartstrings. You were so precious and I loved it when you told me that.

(K)[smiles] Because it’s true, Mom, you and Dad raised me in a loving home and you took good care of me. Dad is my hero because if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here. Had Sean continued beating me, who knows what he would’ve done to me, he would’ve killed me, I know that. I was given a second chance at life and I took it, then I came here and built my new life. I had the help of Ash, Merig, and Larry. They were so good to me and they still are. But Merig most of all, we fell in love and I got my second chance to live the perfect life and here I am. Merig made me his wife and now we’re parents, life can’t get any better than this, even if I wanted it to. It’s perfect enough for me and there’s nothing I want to change about it. You all here had a part in making it that way, thank you.

(M)Anything for you, my moon.

(A)You’re my best friend, Kate, I'd do anything for you too.

(L)Your old pal Larry will always be here when you need me.

(B)So will your big brother-in-law, Barth.

(G)And your heroes, of course.

(C)Especially since you won’t ever let us forget about it.

(K)[giggles] Of course not. You deserve all the praise.

(S)I’m here too whenever you need me, Kate, just like you were for me.

(DD)Me too, like I said before, if it wasn’t for you, I would’ve never met Cormac or even known his name. We should be thanking you.

(C)Agreed, thank you, and we’re always here for you.

(EM)You’ve been nothing but kind to me, so I’ll be returning the favor. We women have to stick together, like Orla said. I’m here for you, girlie.

(O)Your mother-in-law is here as well. We absolutely adore you, Kate, and you’re doing wonderfully with Nevan, from what I’ve seen so far.

(Msr)That’s right, Orla and I will always be here if you need us. And if you ever need a break, we’re more than happy to look after Nevan.

(J)Yes, we are his grandparents after all.

(T)You know what they say, it takes a village to raise a child.

(K)Thank you all, it means a lot that you're in my life. I may even shed a tear myself.

(A)[giggles] As long as it’s a happy tear.

(K)[giggles] Of course, happy tears are the best kind of tears.

(M)...Oh, there’s someone coming this way that I think you’ll want to talk to.

Kate's gentle pats on Nevan's back coax out another tiny burp, a sweet sound that fills the air. As Merig turns to face the approaching figure, Kate does the same as her smile widens, and she rises from her seat, tenderly handing Nevan to Merig. Merig's arms envelop his son, cradling him with loving care, as he too stands to greet the person. Ingo, the bandit leader, approaches with a warm, genuine smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners. Merig and Kate return his smile, their faces radiating joy and welcome. As Ingo draws near, the group's warmth and friendliness envelop him, a sense of belonging he never thought possible. His rugged features soften, his gaze lingering on the happy family before him, Merig, Kate, and little Nevan, a tiny bundle of joy in his father's arms. Kate's soft, cheerful voice greets Ingo, her words a gentle breeze on a summer's day.

(K)We’re glad you could make it, Ingo. I hope you’re enjoying yourself.

(I)Thanks, I am. Thank you for inviting me. I was happy to attend and meet your son.

(M)He just got fed, so he’s sleeping it off.

(I)[chuckles] Sounds like us after a good meal, I’m sure you remember.

(M)Yeah, but the food is much better here in the city, so you should try it sometime.

(K)I hear you’re thinking about relocating to the city to live among humans. That would be perfect for you if you’re looking for good food.

(I)[smiles] It does sound like the good life, and yes I’m strongly considering it.

(M)Well, like I said, there’s always room for you in the guards and a seat at our table at the pub. Larry was telling everyone that we may even have to make the table bigger if we want to have more people.

(I)Let me think it over some more, but save me a spot. You might see me again pretty soon.

(M)Will do.

(K)I also wanted to thank you, Ingo. We haven’t had the chance to tell you. But the day I gave birth, my heart gave out, and I stopped breathing. I was dead, and I was brought back by a goddess, and it was all thanks to the necklace you gave me. This star necklace I still wear, it summoned the goddess who gave life back to me and I was revived. It was honestly a miracle to us and I can’t thank you enough.

(I)[smiles] We thought you might need that just in case.

(K)So you were aware of its ability to resurrect me?

(I)Yeah, after you came to the camp before you went to rescue Merig, and told me you lost your unborn son because of that monster, it honestly broke my heart hearing that. Once I heard you were pregnant with Merig’s child, I went searching for something to give to you in case of an emergency. I found that necklace and bought it after the person told me that it could revive people from the dead. I remember the battle between us and the Royal Guards to rescue Kate and the moon-shaped necklace she has that revived you, Merig. So I wanted to see what I could do to help if someone lost their life again. I honestly was afraid your child was going to lose his life, but it seems fate had different plans.

(K)Yeah, it did, and you saved my life, Ingo. You’re more than welcome in our lives and in the city.

(M)And my offer still stands if you ever want to join the Royal Guards and kick bandit ass.

(I)[chuckles] I really am considering it. Just like Gordo told me a long time ago when he was still in the hideout, I’m tired of being a bandit. I want to be here and not worry about anything.

(M)Trust me, you’ll live a nice and comfortable life here. You can even have a taste of Kate’s cooking. She’s the best at it.

(L)It’s to die for, Ingo, you don’t know what you’re missing out on.

(G)Come on, Ingo, come have fun with us here in Tara.

(B)Hell yeah, you can even train with us at the training grounds.

(C)There are targets there I frequently use to practice with my crossbow. You can shoot your mana guns there.

(Msr)I'm even considering joining and training as well.

(EM)I’m a new recruit myself, so it’ll be fun to spar.

(A)You’ll have a lot of fun, trust me.

(S)And if you ever get hurt, you can always come and see me or Nessa at the healer.

(B)Her pain-reducing potions are the best.

(DD)And if you ever find that special someone, come visit Cormac and me at the flower shop.

(K)Think it over some more and get back to us. You can even watch my son grow up into a well-behaved goblin and Fomor to society.

(M)In the meantime, you can join us here. There’s an extra seat.

(K)But first, your official welcome into the group.

Ingo's gaze sweeps across the group, taking in their beaming faces and heartfelt testimonies, before settling on Kate as she steps forward with open arms. Her embrace is an invitation to connection, to belonging, and Ingo's instincts respond swiftly. He leans down, his rugged frame surrendering to the warmth of Kate's hug, as they wrap each other in a tight and friendly hold. Ingo's eyes widen, his face alight with emotion, as he averts his gaze to meet Merig's warm smile. Merig's nod is a silent blessing, a seal of approval, and Ingo's smile falters for a moment before he returns it, his eyes shining with gratitude. As they hug, Ingo begins to speak, his voice low and husky with emotion, his words a gentle whisper in Kate's ear.

(I)Thank you

(K)No, thank you.

Kate and Ingo share a warm smile as they part, their faces aglow with the joy of newfound connection. Kate's inviting gesture beckons Ingo to join the circle, and he gladly accepts, taking a seat amidst the lively gathering. Kate and Merig settle in beside each other, their hands touching, their love radiating like a beacon. The table erupts in a tapestry of conversation, laughter, and music, as old friends and new unite in celebration. The air is alive with the scent of delicious food, the sound of clinking glasses, and the warmth of shared stories. Nevan, the tiny shining star, lies serenely in Merig's arms, surrounded by the love and light of his family. Everyone at the table continues to converse, dine, laugh, dance, and make more memories with new faces, new friends, and a new chapter in their life with the newest addition to their family. With the love so strong between the earth and the moon, their beautiful and precious shining star has been born.
