Moon to My Earth Part 4
His New Life in Prison

His New Life in Prison

Days pass, and early morning light creeps into the homes of Kate and Merig, and Cormac and Deirdre. The two couples stir, preparing for their day. Kate and Merig plan to visit Sean at the queen's prison, while Cormac and Deirdre join them, tasked with finding a birthday gift for Kate's father afterward. At the home of Cormac and Deirdre, Deirdre stands before the mirror, fastening the sunflower pendant Cormac gave her around her neck, its bright petals shining against her skin. As she makes sure her beautiful wavy platinum blonde hair is just right, Cormac finishes his preparations and glances over at her, a smile spreading across his face. Cormac approaches, wrapping his arms around Deirdre's waist from behind, his lips whispering a soft kiss against her cheek. Deirdre turns around, her face radiant as Cormac's hands cradle her face. Their lips meet in a gentle, loving kiss, the moment suspended in time. As they break apart, their eyes lock, shining with love and adoration. Cormac's voice breaks the silence, his words husky with emotion.

(C)How did I get so lucky to find you and have the luxury of being with you?

(DD)If you think about it, I found you. I saw you around the city for the longest time, but I was too shy to talk to you until you came in one day and talked to me and told me you thought I was beautiful. Then I accepted Kate’s wedding invitation when I told her I wanted to meet you and she said you would be there. Then we met at the wedding reception and I approached you the next day. And well, you know the rest.

(C)Yeah, I do. I guess we both got lucky to find each other.

(DD)You could put it that way, I guess.

(C)I got lucky enough that you were even interested in me and lucky enough that you wanted anything to do with me. Even luckier that we fell in love and you wanted to be with me. The best part was when we made love and all of my pain faded.

(DD)[smiles] That was the best part, wasn’t it? My pain faded as well, and I feel just as lucky to be with such a wonderful person.

(C)You’re a wonderful person as well, considering what you’ve done for me.

(DD)You’ve done things for me, too. You made me feel safe again. You took me out into the forest and helped me do what I love again and not be afraid. You killed the bandit that hurt me and almost raped me.

(C)I wasn’t going to let him hurt you again and I’ll never let anyone else hurt you like I promised.

(DD)And you’ve done a wonderful job protecting me, my love, and I’m forever grateful.

(C)I’m forever grateful for you, too, my sunflower.

(DD)It’ll be fun to go out into the city with you and spend time with Kate and Merig.

(C)Yeah, it’ll be a lot of fun, especially going to see Sean and tell him what a piece of shit he is.

(DD)I know you’re looking forward to that. Afterward, maybe we can sneak off and go into the forest to have some alone time, just you and I.

(C)[smiles] I was thinking the same thing. I was going to steal you away and we can spend some time in nature. I know it’s still autumn, and it’s starting to get colder, but I’ll keep you warm.

(DD)[smiles] I would love that, Mic. I love the color of the changing leaves and the crunch of the ones that fall on the ground when you step on them. Some Flowers grow in the forest all year long, so we can still see them around this time. Getting to spend time with you would be the best part about it.

(C)I completely agree, it’s just been a while since we’ve been out in the forest when it started getting cold. Maybe we can make love on a bed of dead leaves.

(DD)That would be wonderful and since your body is warmer than mine, you can keep me warm and I won’t get cold while we make love. I’d love to go out in the forest with you and spend time with you like we usually do. I’ll be at peace and it makes me very happy when I’m out there with you.

(C)I feel the same way, sweetheart, and later on, when we’re both home for the evening, we can sit in front of the fireplace together and I can help you get warm while we wind down.

(DD)That sounds wonderful, honey. I love that idea so much. But for now, we should meet up with Kate and Merig at their home so we can head out to the prison.

(C)You’re right, I’m sorry. I got carried away and got lost in your beautiful blue eyes.

(DD)You have blue eyes, too, and they look very handsome. I got lost in them as well.

(C)You’re right, we should go before we get too lost in each other. I love you so much, my sunflower.

(DD)I love you, too, Mic. Let’s finish here and we can go.

(C)Alright, I’m looking forward to today

(DD)[smiles] Me too.

Cormac and Deirdre indulge in another tender kiss, their lips lingering together before they finally tear themselves away to finish their preparations. With a shared smile, they depart their home, strolling hand in hand to Kate and Merig's cozy abode. Upon arrival, Cormac's knuckles knock gently against the front door, and they wait together, Deirdre's hand clutching his arm. The door swings open, revealing Merig's warm smile as he welcomes them with a gentle gesture. Merig's eyes twinkle with warmth as he beckons them inside. Cormac and Deirdre step into the cozy atmosphere of Kate and Merig's home, surrounded by the comforting scent of freshly brewed tea and the soft hum of conversation. Merig closes the door behind them, and Kate emerges from the heart of the house, her face lighting up with a radiant smile. The group exchanges warm greetings, their laughter and chatter filling the air as they gather together, ready to face the day ahead.

(K)Good morning, you two. I made breakfast if you’re both hungry before we leave. You're more than welcome to join us.

(DD)Absolutely, I wouldn't mind sitting down and chatting while we eat. What do you think, Mic honey?

(C)Sure thing, sweetheart, I'm definitely hungry for Kate’s breakfast. I'm sure she's nervous about seeing Sean today.

(K)A little, but I want him to make him suffer, and one way to do it is to show him that he didn't kill me or my goblin child growing inside my womb. It'll be the perfect torture for him to see that he didn't succeed in taking another life. I also want to rub it in his face that he lost the war that he declared when he took my husband from me, and I hope he gets no sleep over it.

(M)Just don't get yourself all worked up, sweetheart, it's not good for you or the baby.

(K)[sigh] You’re right, my love, I'm sorry. I just want Sean to see what he failed to destroy.

(M)I know you do, honey, and he failed because of you. You rescued me and brought me back home.

(K)And I'll do it again, but remember, I had help, right Cormac?

(C)That’s right, my aim didn't fail me that day, even after the injury I sustained. I'd do it again as well if I had to, Merig. I know you all would do the same if it was another one of us goblins.

(M)That’s right, I would do the same, and I know that woman standing next to you would go scorched earth for you, too, just like Kate did for me.

(DD)He's not wrong. I don't care if I can't fight. If anyone took you away from me, I'd fight them tooth and nail.

(C)I know you would, my sunflower, and I would do the same for you. But I would only hope that it never came to that.

(DD)I do too, sweetheart, but you deserve to watch Sean rot in prison. He hurt you, Kate, and Merig, and he does not deserve freedom and happiness. Only torture and misery and I'll enjoy watching him suffer for what he did to all of you.

(M)I completely understand your anger, Deirdre, and I feel the same way. I'm sure we all do.

(K)Absolutely, I'll get just as much enjoyment out of watching him get what he deserves.

(C)I’m right there with you, Kate, and I'll even tell him a thing or two.

(K)Afterward, we can go have lunch while we're out in the city.

(DD)Sounds great to me. But if you're okay with it, Cormac and I would like to sneak away after we sign your dad's birthday note.

(C)It’s been a while since Deirdre and I have been out in the forest together. I'd like to take her out while the beautiful leaves are changing color and before it gets too much colder.

(M)That’s perfectly fine with me. We're not doing any guard work today. I left that up to Larry, Barth, and Gordo while we’re out.

(C)Alright, I just wanted to run it by you first.

(K)Well, we should sit down and eat our breakfast before we go.

(DD)[smiles] Absolutely, I'm hungry.

(C)Me, too, let's have a seat.

The four friends gather around the breakfast table, savoring the warmth and camaraderie as they share a nourishing meal together. With full hearts and bellies, they set out on their journey to Rath Castle, bound for the queen's special prison where Sean is held. Upon arriving at the castle, they seek out the queen's presence, eventually finding her in the throne room. As they enter, Eirawen's radiant smile illuminates the space, and she rises from her throne to greet them with open arms. Warm hugs are exchanged, filled with genuine affection, as Eirawen takes a moment to connect with each of her dear friends. Her eyes sparkle with kindness and warmth, setting the tone for a joyful reunion. With the greetings complete, Eirawen's expression turns thoughtful, and she begins to speak, her voice like a gentle breeze on a summer's day.

(E)Good morning my friends, it’s so good to see you. To what do I owe this visit?

(M)Well, I came to visit Sean like I always do and I brought along Cormac and his significant other, Deirdre. And Kate came with me too.

(E)Well first off, it’s so good to see you, Kate, I see how much further you’ve gotten into your pregnancy. It’s so beautiful to see.

(K)[smiles] It is, and this goblin child has been very active lately. He’s more active when you talk to him. Would you like to feel him kick, Eirawen?

(E)[smiles] Really, can I? I would be so delighted.

(K)Of course, I’ll show you where he usually kicks.

Eirawen's face lights up with excitement as she approaches Kate, her hands extended in anticipation. Kate responds with a gentle grasp, guiding Eirawen’s hands to rest on her round belly, one positioned on the right side and the other nestled in the center. Eirawen’s eyes widen in wonder as she gazes down at the beautiful curve of Kate’s pregnancy, her breath catching in anticipation. The room falls silent, the air thick with expectation as Eirawen remains still, waiting for a sign. Suddenly, a tiny movement beneath her hands startles her, and she jumps back slightly, her eyes sparkling with delight. A radiant smile breaks across her face, and she bursts into a fit of giggles. She revels in the magic moment, her voice bubbling over with excitement over the new life growing within Kate.

(E)He’s moving, oh how wonderful! This baby is very active and healthy, it seems.

(K)Oh, Nessa said he’s very healthy.

(E)Such a beautiful thing and I’m sure with how big your belly is, your feet are suffering.

(K)You’re right about that, but it’s worth it for me. Although, something did happen the other day at the pub.

(E)Oh? Are you okay?

(K)I am now, a man who has a distaste for Fomors thought it would be okay to purposely bump into me and almost made me fall forward.

(E)Oh my goodness, did you fall?

(K)Luckily no, Cormac, over there was the hero and caught me before that happened. He was helping me to a chair at our table after he had the pleasure of feeling the baby kick, so he was right next to me when it happened.

(M)I took the man outside and dealt with him afterward, he’s also banned from the pub.

(E)Oh thank goodness, and thank you, Cormac, I’m so grateful that you were present and quick to save my dear friend. You’re the sergeant of the guards, are you not?

(C)Yes, your majesty, I am. Merig gave me the rank six months ago.

(E)Your bravery will not go unnoticed and I personally thank you for what you’ve done. I also heard about your bravery, and the lieutenant’s bravery in the dungeon when you all rescued the commander. Don’t think for a second that will go unnoticed, either. You and the lieutenant will be knighted soon enough.

(C)Your Highness, it would be an honor, but I don’t feel I’m worthy.

(E)Nonsense. I’ve absolved you of all your past wrongdoings, seeing how much you’ve redeemed yourself in these past months. I’ve been told everything you’ve done and you are more than deserving of being my trusted knight, along with the commanders and lieutenant. I’m sure Larry is happy now that he's been knighted, and I’m sure Barth wants to be as well.

(M)Oh, Larry is very happy, and Barth looks forward to his knighting if his majesty would be so gracious.

(E)[smiles] But of course, I look forward to it as well.

(C)...I honestly don’t know what to say. Thank you, Your Majesty. I’m speechless at this rate. Words can’t express how grateful I am and how humble you’ve made me feel with your words.

(E)Don’t be too humble. Take pride in your accomplishments and your rewards for such bravery.

(C)Of course, Your Highness, I dare not defy your graciousness to accept me as your subordinate. I will uphold my honor as a knight and as a sergeant and I will not disappoint Her Majesty.

(E)Wonderful, I love to hear that. And who is this beautiful woman standing next to you? I don’t think we’ve met before.

(C)Oh, of course, this is Deirdre McCullen. She’s my companion and I love her very much. Her grandmother owns the flower shop, and Deirdre and I first met there briefly. I also danced with her at Kate and Merig’s wedding reception.

(E)Yes, of course, how could I forget? I did meet you and your grandmother at the wedding, didn’t I?

(DD)Yes, Your Highness, Cormac and I danced together.

(E)Your grandmother Silvia is such a sweet woman, and she did a wonderful job providing the flowers for the wedding.

(DD)Yes, I do remember meeting you. It was a beautiful wedding.

(E)Yes, it was, indeed.

(C)Also, as you know, I was injured while fighting bandits who threatened Kate’s parents on their way back to Tailltean.

(E)Oh yes, I most definitely got word of that incident.

(C)Well, I neglected myself in my recovery and my wound had gotten infected. I was battling with the guilt that I was harboring for my past misdeeds. But the wonderful people around me convinced me to seek medical help, so I did, and Deirdre came to visit me at the healer, even after I rejected her offer to treat me to a lovely dinner with her. I felt I wasn’t worthy of her kindness, but she seemed to think otherwise. She stayed at my bedside and even visited me daily to clean my wound and change my bandages for three weeks straight. In those three weeks, I found myself falling in love with this wonderful, and beautiful woman. She definitely captured my heart, and it’s thanks to my life with her that I’ve forgiven myself for my sins and I’m happier than I’ve ever been.

(E)Such a heartwarming story and how wonderful that you found each other and fell in love. It’s so beautiful to see and it’s so nice to meet you, Deirdre.

(DD)It’s an honor to meet you and be recognized by Her Majesty. I’ve only dreamt of being in your presence.

(E)Well, you too, have my utmost gratitude for taking care of Cormac, and I’m so happy for you both. I hope you enjoy your life together and I look forward to officiating your wedding.[wink]

(DD)[blush] Oh, Your Highness, w-w-we haven’t exactly discussed such things yet.

(C)[chuckles] It would be an honor if Deirdre agreed to marry me.

(K)[giggles] Her Majesty loves to jest, but she’s half serious.

(E)[giggles] It’s true, I love seeing people fall in love. When I heard that Kate and Merig fell in love, I’ll admit I thought it was unusual at first. But seeing how much Merig loved Kate and when he rescued her from the bandit’s hideout, I understood their love for each other much better. Love between a woman and a goblin is just as beautiful as two humans falling in love. Seeing how Kate accepted Merig despite him being a Fomor warmed my heart and I was more than happy to officiate their marriage. It seems Deirdre has accepted you the same way that Kate accepted Merig and I absolutely love it. Don’t pay any mind to what anyone says, because I’m sure there are humans in my city who do not accept Fomors. There are very few, but everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and that is okay. But abuse toward my citizens, whether human or Fomor, will not be tolerated, especially abuse toward my subordinates. Not too long ago, I had to be stern with the Royal Guards before Merig and Larry became commanders because the other guards did not care for Fomors. But they quickly learned once I made them the commanders that they were formidable in their ranks.

(M)That’s right, Eirawen, and we’ve been shown nothing but respect, and the other guards have accepted us as their equals. I will forever be grateful to Her Majesty for showing such kindness to us Fomors.

(C)Absolutely, I came here to better myself and I’m forever in Her Majesty’s debt for accepting me into this city and the Royal Guards. My view of humans has changed for the better despite the betrayal I suffered at the hands of that human in the prison who I thought I could trust. I now live a wonderful and perfect life here as a sergeant of the guards and with the woman I love, as well as the others around me who supported me and forgave me for my sins. And now the queen herself has forgiven my actions as well, and I can’t express how grateful I am.

(E)Oh yes, I do remember you telling me how Mr. Richwood betrayed you, such a shame, and you bear the mark as a reminder. I would like to formally apologize on behalf of that human.

(C)There’s no need, Your Majesty, your understanding and willingness to forgive me for my crimes is enough. Words will never sum up my gratitude. I will continue to serve as Her Majesty’s subordinate in return for her kindness.

(E)[smiles] You have my gratitude as well, Sergeant Giffin, as well as Miss McCullen, here. You both are in my highest regard and I wish you nothing but the best in your life together.

(DD)Thank you, Your Highness.

(C)I will not disappoint you, Your Majesty.

(E)I know you won’t, you have my trust. Now, as for your visit with Mr. Richwood in my prison. Are all of you here to see him?

(M)Yes, Kate wanted to accompany me and so did Cormac and Deirdre.

(E)Don’t you worry about the women?

(C)Rest assured that we will protect them from harm.

(M)I was worried at first, but seeing as he’s behind a steel cell, he can’t hurt anyone. I’ll put restraints on him myself to ensure that he isn’t a threat.

(E)[nods] Right, just be careful. Guards will be stationed outside of the entrance in case anything happens. Now follow me.

Eirawen strides purposefully away from the throne room, with the other four in tow, as they exit the grandeur of the great hall and step out into the bright light of day. They turn left, their footsteps echoing off the castle walls as they walk about fifty feet before disappearing through a discreet door nestled in a protruding wall. The queen leads the way, her regal presence commanding attention, as she beckons them deeper into the castle's inner sanctum. The door creaks shut behind them, enveloping them in the narrow, dimly lit corridor. A sharp turn reveals a steep staircase, plunging them into darkness. Descending the stairs, the air grows thick with anticipation. At the bottom, a large wooden door looms, its small window and steel bars a formidable barrier. Two Royal Guards stand watch, their eyes are watchful and unyielding. Eirawen approaches with determination, as one of the guards hands her a jingling set of keys. With a soft clank, she unlocks the door, yielding to her touch, revealing the secrets within. As the door creaks open, a warm glow from the torches lining the stone walls spills out, illuminating the dark corridor. The room beyond is large and dimly lit, with an iron cell situated at its far end, about twenty feet away. Inside the cell, Sean sits amidst a pile of straw, his ragged clothes and disheveled appearance a testament to his harsh treatment. Bruises and dried blood mar his face from his previous beatings, and a scowl etches his features as the group enters. Eirawen beckons them forward, her eyes fixed on Sean, as they step into the room. Sean's gaze snaps to Kate, his eyes widening in shock and anger at the sight of her pregnant belly. His glare intensifies, burning with resentment. Merig steps forward, his movements deliberate, as he produces a key from his pocket and unlocks the cell door. Sean rises to his feet, his eyes flashing with defiance, as Merig closes the cell door behind him with a firm hand. He then produces a set of steel restraints, his voice stern and commanding as he addresses the prisoner.

(M)You know what to do, you piece of shit.

Sean's scowl deepens as he engages in a fierce stare-down with Merig, the air crackling with tension. Merig's glare intensifies, his pupils flashing with anger, before Sean reluctantly complies, turning away with a stiff back. Merig seizes Sean's arms, twisting them behind his back with a swift, merciless motion. The steel restraints click into place around Sean's wrists, the sound echoing through the cell like a cold, unforgiving sentence. Merig spins Sean around, their eyes clashing in a fierce, unyielding stare. Then, Merig turns away from Sean and opens the cell door as his gaze shifts, his eyes meeting Kate's with a gentle, reassuring glance. His expression softens, his gesture sweet and comforting, as he beckons her inside to confront her former tormentor. Kate steps forward, her hands cradling her swollen belly, her eyes flashing with anger and hurt as she steps inside and approaches Sean. Sean's gaze drops to Kate's pregnant form, his face contorting in rage and disgust. A low, menacing growl rumbles from his throat as he takes a step forward, his eyes blazing with a malevolent intent. But Merig quickly grips his throat and halts him, choking off his fury. Merig's eyes turn a familiar fiery crimson as he leans in, his voice dropping to a growling, maniacal whisper, his hot breath dancing across Sean's face like a taunt.

(M)I don’t think so, you bastard! Just what the hell do you think you’re going to do to my pregnant wife? I don’t care if you have cuffs on your wrists. Now, I want you to take a look at what you almost destroyed. I don’t care if it pisses you off that she’s carrying my seed. It’s all part of the torture you’ve been enduring for the past six months. The same torture you’ll endure for the rest of your pathetic life here. My beautiful shining moon, I'm sure you have words to say to this mistake to humanity.

(K)Yes, my love, I do. Your parents are even disappointed in you, Sean, and they have disowned you, and they are perfectly okay with you being locked up. I got apology letters from both of them and they even visited me personally to apologize as well. They heard about the damage you did and offered gold to do what I needed for myself and my goblin child inside my belly. I didn’t want their money, but they insisted. They said they didn’t raise someone to be so hateful toward people you say that you love and care about. You aren’t their son anymore. You have no one, Sean, and it’s what you deserve. You’re going to rot here and my husband will make sure of it and protect me from you. I will give birth to this goblin child, and he will be loved and cared for and you will never have the pleasure of hurting him or me ever again. You no longer have control over me and you’re getting what you deserve tenfold compared to what you did to me.[sigh] If I wasn’t pregnant, I’d be yelling at the top of my lungs at you and beating the shit out of you like you did to me. Unfortunately, that’s not a good idea for the baby and he’s very active right now and it’s not comfortable, so I’ll end it by saying this. You’re a piece of shit, Sean, and I’m so glad you’re here for the rest of your life and you can’t hurt anyone anymore. You took my husband and almost killed me and my unborn child. You’ve already taken one life from me. I wasn’t going to let you take more lives. You get to suffer here at the hands of my husband and Cormac, who you also hurt, and anyone else who comes to visit. I’m going to enjoy watching you feel pain and anguish as I did, and I see you’re still bloody and bruised from the last beating you took. Just be careful not to kill him, you two. Death is too good for him. I love you, my earth. Make sure those red eyes of yours give him nightmares while he sleeps. He doesn’t deserve to sleep peacefully.

(M)[chuckles] I love you, too, my beautiful shining moon. As you wish, even after six months, I still enjoy making him bleed and feel pain. I’ll threaten you the same way you threatened my wife. You’ll regret ever laying a hand on her the way you did along with taking the life that was growing inside her belly, and everything else you did. Only this time, Cormac will be joining me in making you taste blood. He deserves closure and justice for what you did to him. Come on, Cormac, it’s your turn to have some fun.

(C)Are you sure you want to be here, Deirdre?

(DD)Of course, my love, I want to see him suffer as well for what he did to you, and I’ll enjoy it. Have no mercy on him.

(C)Alright, my sunflower, I love you.

(DD)I love you, too.

Cormac's gaze shifts to Merig, who beckons him to enter the cell with a nod, his grip on Sean's throat remaining unyielding. Cormac nods in response, his eyes locked on Merig's, before turning back to Deirdre. He smiles tenderly as he gently scoops her cheeks up in his hands, their lips meeting in a soft, loving kiss. Pulling away, Cormac turns and faces Merig and Sean in the cell, his expression darkens, his smile twisting into a menacing grin as he approaches. He steps into the cell, his eyes fixed on Sean, as Kate passes him and exits, her face pale and pinched, her belly swollen and vulnerable. She looks visibly uncomfortable, her breath coming in short gasps, as she approaches Deirdre. Deirdre extends her hands, offering support, as Kate grasps them tightly, her eyes filled with a mix of pain and gratitude. Deirdre wraps her arms around Kate, offering a comforting embrace, as Kate returns the gesture, her one arm encircling Deirdre's waist, the other cradling her belly, seeking solace and protection.

(DD)It’ll be okay, just take deep breaths.

(K)He’s getting restless again.

(M)Just relax the best you can, sweetheart, and sit down if you need to.

(K)I’ll be just fine, my love, you and Cormac carry on. I love you.

(M)I love you, too, my beautiful shining moon.

Cormac closes the cell door behind him, the sound echoing through the room. He strides deeper into the cell, his eyes fixed on Sean, who's still in a chokehold, and Merig's crimson eyes continue blazing with malevolent intensity. Sean's face is red, his eyes bulging, as he gasps for air, his struggles weakening. Merig's malicious gaze never wavers, his smile twisting into a devilish grin, as he tightens his grip, savoring Sean's fear. Cormac steps forward, his presence looming large, as Merig's chuckle sends a shiver down Sean's spine. Merig's voice rises, his maniacal tone dripping with sadistic pleasure, as he speaks, his words dripping with malice.

(M)Is there anything you’d like to say to this piece of shit before we get started, Cormac?

(C)Oh yeah, I’ve had some pent-up anger that I’m ready to let loose on him. Hello, Sean. It’s been a while since I last saw you. I’m sure you can see me much clearer now that your face isn’t covered in blood…yet. Sadly, I didn’t get to say what I wanted back in that dungeon, so I thank the commander for giving me this opportunity. First off, you're a snake, I saved your life and brought you back from the dead after one of those bandits killed you that night. I fought them off as best as I could while I revived you. I don’t know what went through your mind for you to think that I had something to do with it. Why the hell would I, when I risked my life to bring you back? If I wanted you dead, I would’ve killed you myself or let you die and not do anything to bring you back, I had no control over those bandits. I was happy to go out there and fight them in the dark and risk my life to protect Taill and its people, who you turned against me along with Vic, the one person I trusted the most. Regardless, she chose to believe you over me, someone she trusted. I never gave her a reason to think I was the villain, so in reality, that situation showed me who I could and couldn’t trust. Especially after you tried to force me to fight you and gave me this scar on my face when I refused because I didn’t want to hurt you. But after you hurt me, that’s when I knew I had been betrayed. And when Vic believed you, I realized she betrayed me, too. Those same bandits that killed you, treated my wound and then took me in after I was exiled by you and everyone else. You ruined my life, Sean, but I made a better life here, even after my crimes against the people I care about. Unlike you, I changed my ways and was forgiven. I had no idea that you would go on to be with a woman who you were supposed to treat with love and kindness as she did for you. But no, you decided you were going to raise your hands to her.

(K)This is about you this time, Cormac, you don’t have to speak on my behalf.

(C)I’m not the only one he hurt, Kate, and I think he hurt you the most. She’s a sweet person and would do anything to see someone smile, but you took her smile from her when you did the things you did to her. She even got pregnant by you and you took that from her when you nearly strangled her to death. Thankfully, she didn’t die, but sadly the child inside her womb did and because of the horror she endured, it’s a wonder how she’s even sane to this day. But despite all of that, she was still the wonderful person she is and always has been. My pain turned me into a monster. Maybe I should’ve been more like Kate. But things didn’t work out that way, and I almost took something from her as well to get my revenge on Merig. I’ve forgiven myself, but not my actions, and I’m able to live happily again thanks to that woman standing next to Kate. I want to marry her someday and hopefully start a family with her as well and never even fathom raising my hands to her. She’s done more for me than I ever thought I deserved. But that’s my reward for changing and redeeming myself. Vic came to visit me at the inn when we stayed in Taill after rescuing Merig from that dungeon. I told her that she meant nothing to me anymore and that I resent her for turning against me because of a lie that she knew wasn’t true, but chose to believe it. I told her I found someone a million times better who knows me and knows that I’m not a monster. The monster you made me out to be and the monster I became because of it. I don’t deserve this perfect life for being the monster I was made out to be…but I deserve it for killing the monster inside me that I wasn’t supposed to be. Deirdre knows me and she trusts me, and would never betray me like you and Vic did because I trust her. I’ve washed my hands of you and Vic both, but I’ll still enjoy beating the shit out of you for giving me this scar and deceiving me into thinking you were someone I could trust. I’ll throw in a few punches in your gut on Kate’s behalf, so you can feel the pain she sustained. Thankfully, she has a healthy goblin infant growing inside her womb and she and Merig will start a family. I hope it brings you utter misery to know that you couldn't keep controlling and beating her. I’m sure Merig has been having a lot of fun giving you your weekly dose of pain and anguish, you coward. And I’ll do the same and I won’t lose one wink of sleep over it.

(SE)[chuckles] I almost felt sorry for you, Cormac. We became friends, and you and Vic fell in love. That’s when I had to do something because humans and Fomors shouldn’t be together romantically. This world doesn’t need more Fomors, and humans don’t need to breed with them.

(M)Sorry, you feel that way, considering I was born from a human.

(SE)You’re an abomination and you married Kate and planted your seed inside of her.

(M)[chuckles] I know, isn’t it wonderful? I’m damn proud of it, too, marrying the woman I fell in love with the moment I laid eyes on her. Then I won her heart and told her that I love her. I sweet-talked her, took her on a date, and danced with her. I kissed her, and I made sweet love to her. I rescued her, and she brought me back from the dead, and then I asked her to marry me. We got married, and I took her on a wonderful honeymoon on my homestead and made even more passionate love to her. And then we came home and found out she was pregnant while dealing with you. And did you know, the entire time I’ve been with Kate, the one thing I never did, have never done, and will never do to that woman over there with the protruding belly that’s carrying my seed? I’ve never raised my hands to her, because that’s not what I’m supposed to do to the woman I love. As Kate said, I’m better than you in every single way, Sean, and I take pride in that because I take pride in showing her love, and holding her delicate heart in my hands and wielding the title of “husband” and now, the title of “father”. My child will not be an abomination. He will be my pride and joy, just like my wife is. Did you say everything you wanted to, Cormac?

(C)I have, for now, I think it’s time to do what we originally came here to do.

(M)I couldn't agree more, my friend. I think that’s enough talking as well. I’m sure Cormac is eager to take out all of his anger and frustrations on you for what you did.

(C)Absolutely I am.

(M)Luckily, he has those cuffs on, so he won’t be able to fight back. So go ahead, Cormac, you go first.

(C)With pleasure, each strike will be for me and Kate since she can’t fight you right now, being pregnant and all.

(K)If you insist, thank you, Cormac.

(C)No, thank you, Kate, for letting me get my revenge that I should’ve had a long time ago. I know you’ve forgiven me and all, but consider this another form of my apology for what I did.

(K)I’ll gladly accept it. Have fun, Cormac. You’ve been absolved, just like Her Majesty said.

(E)That’s right and with that being said, I shall leave you all to it. Lock the cell door on your way out and let one of the guards know that you’re leaving, so I can lock the main door.

(M)Of course, Your Highness.

(K)It was good seeing you again, Eirawen.

(E)It was wonderful seeing you as well, Kate, and thank you for allowing me to feel your belly. I hope to see that baby when he’s born. I’d love to have a ceremony for him.

(K)[smiles] I would love that very much, and Merig and I will establish his name together.

(E)[smiles] I look forward to it, you take care, my friends.

(DD)You as well, Your Highness, it was lovely meeting you.

(E)You as well, Deirdre, I would love to invite you to have tea with Kate and me some time.

(DD)[smiles] I would be honored.

(E)Wonderful, goodbye for now.

(C)Goodbye, Your Majesty.

Eirawen exits the room, the large door creaking shut behind her, as the guards remain vigilant, their watchful eyes fixed on the entrance. Cormac and Merig refocus their attention on Sean, their gazes cold and merciless. Merig's grip on Sean's throat tightens, his fingers like a vice, as Sean's wheezes and gasps grow more desperate. With a sudden burst of strength, Merig shoves Sean against the stone wall, releasing him from his grasp. Sean crashes into the wall, his restraints clattering against the stone, before crumpling to the floor, his body limp and helpless. Outside the cell, Kate and Deirdre stand watch, their eyes fixed on the scene unfolding before them. Deirdre's gaze wanders, her eyes landing on a wooden crate in the corner of the room. She retrieves it, her movements gentle, and sets it down beside Kate. With a supportive arm, Deirdre guides Kate onto the crate, helping her settle in as she cradles her belly. Kate sits, her eyes closed, as she rubs her swollen belly, seeking comfort. Deirdre stands beside her, her hands gentle on Kate's back, offering a soothing touch as they wait. Back inside the cell, Cormac looms over Sean, his eyes blazing with fury. He grasps Sean's collar, yanking him to his feet with a brutal jerk. Cormac's arm recoils, his fist clenched, before smashing into Sean's face with a sickening crunch. Sean's head snaps back, his eyes dazed, as Cormac pins him against the wall, unleashing a flurry of punches that rain down on either side of Sean's face. Sean's body goes limp, his face a bloody mess, as Cormac tosses him to the ground like a rag doll. Cormac stands over him, chest heaving, his foot drawing back for a vicious kick that connects with Sean's gut, sending him writhing in agony, blood spewing from his lips. Merig joins in, his foot flashing out to kick Sean in the stomach, doubling him over. With a cruel flourish, Merig uses his foot to roll Sean onto his back, his arms still trapped behind him. Merig gazes down at Sean, his devilish smile twisting his face, as Cormac looks on, his scowl dark and menacing. The air is heavy with the stench of violence, the sound of labored breathing and groans filling the cell. Sean's eyes, swollen and bloody, lock onto his tormentors, his gaze filled with unadulterated terror as the two goblins continue their merciless assault. Finally, they tire of their sport, leaving Sean broken and battered on the cold stone floor to be cleaned and treated for his wounds. The group exits the castle, their faces set with determination, as they venture into the city to find a birthday gift for Kate's father. They navigate the bustling marketplace, Kate clinging to Merig's arm, her hand cradling her belly as she walks with a gentle wobble. Cormac and Deirdre follow, their footsteps silent, Deirdre's hand slipping into Cormac's as they walk. Cormac's eyes narrow, his gaze fixed on the ground, his expression dark and brooding. Deirdre glances up at him, her eyes soft with concern, as she gives his hand a gentle squeeze. Cormac's gaze shifts, his eyes meeting Deirdre's, as she smiles sweetly and speaks in a soft, melodious voice, her words a gentle remedy to his troubled soul.

(DD)Hey, sweetheart, are you okay? You don't look very happy.

(C)I've just got some things on my mind, that's all, no need to worry yourself.

(DD)If you need to talk, you know I’m here.

(C)I appreciate it, my sunflower.

(DD)[smiles] I love you.

(C)[smiles] I love you, too.

(DD)If you want, we can just go home and relax.

(C)That’s okay, we’re here spending time with Kate and Merig and looking for a birthday gift for Tom. Besides, we’ll be spending some time out in the forest later, so that’ll help me clear my head.

(DD)Good, I’ll do whatever you need me to so you can be happy.

(C)I’m already happy being with you, sweetheart. You do more than enough for me and I appreciate you so much.

(DD)I’m glad, but I’ll keep doing what I can so you can always be happy.

(C)Thank you, my beautiful sunflower. I don’t know what I would do without you.

(DD)[smiles] So what kind of things does your father like, Kate, so we know what to look for?

(K)Well, he’s a mage just like me and I’ve been wanting to find him a staff that amplifies magic.

(C)What kind of staff are you wanting to find?

(K)He always talked about something called a guardian staff. He says it has Celtic designs on it, but I've never seen one before.

(M)Then we should probably go to the magic shop. They have all kinds of things related to magic that a mage would need.

(K)Yeah, I've been there a few times for things I've needed. The mage that runs the shop, Finola, is a wonderful person. She’s helped me look for what I needed to practice my magic.

(DD)Alright, that sounds wonderful, we’ll all go there.

(K)You and Cormac don’t have to go with us to the shop. You both can walk around and do whatever you want to do.

(C)Are you sure? We don’t mind at all.

(K)I’m sure Deirdre would love to spend time with you while you’re both here. Weren't you two planning on going out to the forest after this?

(DD)Yeah, we haven’t been out there in a while and just spent time together like we used to now that it's getting colder.

(M)You two go on then, Kate and I will be fine going to the magic shop together.

(C)Alright then, Deirdre and I will walk around for a bit and then head out to the forest. Is that okay with you, sweetheart?

(DD)That sounds wonderful, my love. We can have lunch together first and whatever else we want to do here, just the two of us.

(C)I would love that. It’ll be fun. Thanks again, Merig, for letting me visit Sean at the prison.

(M)No problem, I figured you would appreciate it, being able to confront him and take some of that pent-up anger you may still have out on him.

(C)I enjoyed it and he deserves it. I’ve been able to control that anger I still have toward him, thanks to the perfect life I have here, and thanks to Deirdre.

(M)Good, our women do a lot for us, don’t they?

(C)You’re absolutely right, there’s no denying that.

(DD)[smiles] We’ll do anything for our goblins, right Kate?

(K)[smiles] You’re absolutely right about that, Deirdre. There’s no denying it.

(C)[chuckles] Alright, we’ll see you later, Kate, Merig.

(K)Alright, you two have fun and we’ll see you both later.

(M)See you later.

The four friends bid each other farewell, their paths diverging in the bustling city. Merig and Kate meander through the winding streets, their destination the enchanting magic shop, its sign creaking in the gentle breeze. Meanwhile, Cormac and Deirdre saunter off, seeking a cozy haven to indulge in a leisurely lunch and each other's company. As Kate and Merig approach the magic shop, the doorbell above the entrance jingles, announcing their arrival. Finola, the shop's proprietor, looks up from her task of arranging ancient tomes on a shelf. Her raven hair is tied in tiny pigtails, adding to her whimsical charm. Her large spectacles perch on the end of her nose, giving her an endearingly bookish appearance. She beams a warm smile at the duo, her eyes sparkling with welcome, as they enter her realm of mystical wonders. The air inside is thick with the scent of old parchment and whispered secrets, inviting Kate and Merig to explore the shop's treasures.

(K)Good afternoon, Finola.

(F)Oh, good afternoon, Kate, it’s been a while since you visited me.

(K)It has, and I see you’ve rearranged a little.

(F)Yeah I have, I needed to. Everything was just getting so cluttered, it was time I did some cleaning before the winter.

(K)Yeah, luckily it isn’t too cold this autumn. You know me, I love the autumn season.

(F)I honestly do as well, that’s why I’m doing all of this now so I can enjoy the rest of it. I’m sure you’re excited though, it being harvest season and I know you like going foraging.

(K)Well, not this time, Fin. As you can see, my belly has gotten much bigger since the last time you saw me. So needless to say, I’m not doing any rigorous activities until after the baby is born.

(F)How silly of me, of course, how is the baby doing? Or rather, how are you doing?

(K)I’m just fine and so is the baby. Although he's been very active recently, he's been letting us know that he’s very healthy.

(F)Oh, I’m sure and I’m also sure that it isn’t comfy either.

(K)Oh no, but to me it’s worth it. It shouldn't be too much longer and he’ll be born. Nessa said another three weeks and we’ll get to meet our goblin son.

(F)I bet you’re both excited. Also, it’s good to see you, Commander Flynn.

(M)It’s good to see you as well, Finola.

(F)I’m sure you’re excited as well, Merig, starting a family with Kate.

(M)Absolutely I am. I’m very excited about starting a family with the woman I love and married.

(F)I remember when you came in here before your first date. I’m the one he came to so he could get that ability for you to dance in the sky. Don’t think I wasn’t going to spill the beans, eventually.

(M)[blush] I-I-I can’t believe you remember that.

(F)Of course, you begged me to sell it to you so you could charm this woman. I don’t blame you, though. Everyone in this city was rooting for you to win her heart.

(K)[giggles] Little did he know that he already had, even before our date.

(F)The brave and strong Commander Flynn, weak at the knees for a beautiful woman.

(M)[chuckles] That’s what happens when you’re in love. I fell in love with her on day one. I just needed to impress her and eventually win her heart.

(K)And here we are, over a year later, and look at what happened. Our life together is perfect, and I can’t wait to have this goblin child. Oh boy, just think, if he’s this active inside, imagine how reckless he’ll be when he’s born.

(F)Children are a joy, but for now, you won’t have to worry about that. As an infant, he’ll probably just be vocal and a little active if he needs something.

(K)Yeah, but I look forward to all of it. You know my story, Fin, so you know being a mother is something that was ripped away from me.

(F)I remember you telling me, my heart goes out to you as always. But you’re bringing new life into the world and this one will also bring you joy.

(K)You’re right about that, we just came from visiting my abuser in prison. I got to accompany Merig for the first time, as well as Sergeant Giffin and Deirdre.

(F)I remember meeting those two. Cormac was someone who your abuser betrayed. Am I correct?

(K)That’s right, he too had the pleasure of visiting him and…confronting him for his sins against him as well.

(F)I’m sure you both enjoyed seeing him get what he deserves.

(K)Absolutely I did and so did Cormac. We actually departed with them before we came here. He and Deirdre are going to spend the rest of the day together to relax.

(F)Good, I’m glad you’re both getting closure and your abuser is in that prison for the rest of his life.

(M)I’m making sure of it this time.

(F)Good, so what brings you both here today?

(K)Well, my father’s birthday is coming up next week and I want to find him a gift. He taught me to master the basic spells, so he’s a master mage and I’m still training with Barth to be one. But the training is on hold, as you can see.

(F)Of course, what exactly are you looking for as a gift?

(K)I was going to ask if you had any staves.

(F)Sure, what kind of staff are you thinking of?

(K)A guardian staff?

(F)Oh, I know what you’re talking about and you’re in luck. I do have one. It has beautiful designs on it and everything. It’s my last one, so you got lucky.

(K)Oh let me buy it please, whatever it costs, I’ll pay for it.

(F)Sure thing, let me go get it for you.

Finola's hands pause, her task forgotten, as she disappears into a hidden chamber deep within the shop. Kate and Merig exchange eager glances, their anticipation building like a gentle hum. Moments tick by, and Finola re-emerges, her arms cradling a majestic staff of unparalleled beauty. The staff's towering height, a stately six feet, commands attention, its cerulean hue glowing with an otherworldly light. Intricate Celtic knotwork dances along its length, weaving a tale of ancient wisdom. The staff's crowning glory, a luminous white gemstone, smooth and round as a moonstone, glimmers at its center, radiating an ethereal aura. Kate and Merig's eyes widen, their mouths agape, as they behold the staff's splendor, their breaths caught in unison. Finola approaches them, a knowing smile on her lips, as she presents the staff with the reverence of a sacred offering.

(F)Here it is, a guardian staff, nice and shiny.

(K)It’s beautiful, I think Dad would love that. Is it brand new?

(F)Yep, I crafted it myself, so your father would be the first to use it.

(K)Oh, he will love that. What do you think, my love?

(M)I think it looks amazing. Your dad is going to love it for sure.

(K)Then we’ll take it, whatever it costs.

(F)Wonderful, follow me and we’ll get down to business.

(K)Do you by chance have something to put it in so I can send it to Tailltean? That’s where my dad is.

(F)Sure thing, I’ve got a wooden box big enough for it to fit inside.

(K)Perfect, that way we can go visit Lougo, and he’ll be happy to send it off for us after everyone signs Dad’s birthday note.

(M)We can do that, sweetheart. We’ll go to the pub and then the trading post after we’re done here. But Eru and I will have problems if he says anything about you being pregnant.

(K)Oh, Merig, it’ll be fine. His words don’t bother me, and they shouldn’t bother you either.

(M)He doesn’t need to say anything negative to my pregnant wife and if he does, we’ll have problems.

(K)[sigh] Remember the conversation we had the other day? If you start an argument with Eru, then your son is going to hear it and move around vigorously in my belly and I don’t want that, do you?

(M)...No, of course not, honey.

(K)Then I think for the sake of me not being in pain, and this child that’s ready to burst from my belly, I suggest you just let Eru say what he wants and don’t let it affect you.

(M)...Alright, sweetheart, but I will at least make it known to him that he is to not say anything to you.

(K)[sigh] Fine, if you must, but nothing more.

(F)She’s right, at this stage of pregnancy, she doesn’t need the stress.

(M)Yeah, I understand, I just don’t tolerate vitriol toward Kate.

(K)I understand, but I can take it, you know me. I kill with kindness and I don’t let things affect me.

(M)I know you don’t, honey, and you’re a wonderful person and that’s what made me fall in love with you even more after I got to know who you are as a person.

(K)[smiles] And I realized what an amazing person you were after getting to know you more and your personality is what made me fall in love with you as well.

(M)[smiles] I love you, my moon, and I’m sorry.

(K)It’s okay, I’m not upset with you, my love, just be mindful, okay?

(M)I will, I promise.

(K)Now that’s settled, let’s get this staff and get everyone to sign the birthday note before we send it off to Dad.

(M)Alright, sweetheart.

(K)Sorry about that, Finola, we’re ready.

(F)No worries, follow me.

Finola glides across the shop, Kate and Merig trailing behind her, as they complete the transaction for the majestic staff. With reverent hands, Finola wraps the staff in a soft, protective cloth and places it within a sturdy wooden box, sealing it with a gentle touch. The box is addressed to Tailltean, destined to bring joy to Thomas on his special day. With the staff safely on its way, Kate and Merig bid Finola farewell, exiting the shop into the vibrant cityscape. Meanwhile, Cormac and Deirdre stroll hand in hand, their lunchtime haven now a pleasant memory. Deirdre's eyes, shining with affection, gaze up at Cormac, her voice tinged with concern as she notices his brooding expression, his eyes still narrowed in thought.

(DD)Mic, honey, are you sure you're okay? You can always talk to me if there's something on your mind. You barely spoke during lunch and we've just been walking in silence. I'm really worried about you.

(C)I'm sorry, sweetheart, I don’t mean to make you worry. I've just been thinking about things since I went to see Sean.

(DD)What is it, my love?

(C)That voice in my head is trying to come back and tell me that I'm a monster again.

(DD)Don’t let it, Mic, we shut those voices up together, remember? You promised that you would forgive yourself.

(C)I know and I have. It's just when I confronted Sean and told him what I did as a bandit, it's almost as if I relived it. I felt all of that pain I went through after what happened to me, and the guilt resurfaced along with it. But then it went away when I was hurting Sean. As if it was also relieving the pain and pent-up negative emotions that I thought I let go.

(DD)...Maybe you didn't truly let them go.

(C)What do you mean?

(DD)Well, I've done my best to help you, and when we made love for the first time, you told me all of those negative emotions were gone. But it seems that I didn't fully take it away.

(C)No, no, you did take it all away, I promise. Nothing you've done for me has been in vain, Deirdre, so please don't think that. The love you've given me has done so much to help me. Seeing Sean was the reason that I relived that pain. So you're right, maybe it never truly went away for me.

(DD)It's okay, Cormac, I understand. The true way to get rid of pain is to go to the source and confront it. You may not feel that pain anymore, but it's still there and it never truly goes away. Trust me, the pain from what happened to me never truly went away either, but you make me so happy, that I'm able to forget about all of it because I'm with you, sweetheart. You make me so happy and I don't know what I would do without you. But sadly, I'll always remember what happened and the pain will never truly go away no matter how much of it you've taken away and that's okay. However, seeing you kill Thornton took my pain away too, since he's the one who hurt me and I wanted him to suffer in death. And I don't expect what I've done to completely wash away your pain and I'm realizing that, but again, that's okay, because I'm still here for you.

(C)I know, but to think that I still have all those negative emotions buried away, and it makes me upset with myself because I made you that promise.

(DD)Hey, I'm not upset with you now that I think about it more, so don't worry, my love. I'm still here no matter what and, like we both promised, I'll never leave your side.

(C)I'll never leave your side either, my sunflower, and thank you for understanding and not leaving my side. I know you've put up with me for this long.[smirk]

(DD)[smiles] Hey, you've given me no trouble at all since we've been together and I'll keep doing what I'm doing for you because I love you so much.

(C)I love you too and I'll keep doing the same for you.

(DD)You said confronting Sean and hurting him made you relieve the residual pain, right?

(C)Yeah, it did, which is what has been on my mind. I'm sorry I worried you, sweetheart.

(DD)There’s no reason to apologize.

(C)I've just been trying to figure out what was happening to me, but you pretty much clarified it for me. Now I understand better and I’m sorry that I’ve been silent.

(DD)Don’t be, just talk to me if you ever have something on your mind.

(C)Of course, but I also have to let Kate and Merig know, because they’re the ones that I hurt, and they forgave me. To know there’s still pain deep within me is something that I didn’t think would happen.

(DD)Well, of course, it’s normal. Just think, did Kate’s pain ever truly go away? She even said as much when she told us her story. The pain of losing a child or even being hurt by someone you loved and trusted is something that will never truly be healed. You’re no different, Mic. You’ve been hurt too, and you lost someone, maybe not in death, but it feels that way because they were people you knew and cared for and they became completely different people when they betrayed you.

(C)I understand what you’re saying and I’m trying not to be upset with myself.

(DD)Well, I’m not upset with you and I’m sure if you talked to Kate and Merig about it, they would understand as well and wouldn’t be upset with you. You’re not living with the pain anymore, and you’ve overcome it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t still exist. You said it went away when we first made love, but it only felt like it was gone. You’re not constantly suffering from it any longer like before.

(C)That’s the thing, I’m not suffering from the pain anymore. It’s just when I felt it again in the prison, I wasn’t sure what to think. It was kind of a shock to know that it still resided in me. But don’t worry, it’s not controlling my life anymore and I can brush it off. Like I said, I still forgave myself. That much is true and I’ve let go of the pain, but it’s still there. Now that I’ve resumed my perfect life, I don’t feel it.

(DD)That’s good, I’m so glad, my love. I’m happy that I can be a part of your perfect life here.

(C)No, Deirdre, you are my perfect life here.

(DD)[smiles] You know what? You’re absolutely right because you’re my perfect life here, too. We’ve both been hurt, but we took each other’s pain away and found happiness. I can smile again and not be afraid to leave my house anymore. We spend a lot of time together and we make each other happy and you’re the only thing that matters to me. I love and appreciate everyone else in my life, but you’re the one who healed me and the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.

(C)I feel the same way, sweetheart, and you’ve healed me as well. I’ve opened up so much and I’m living peacefully among humans again and I fell in love like I did back in Taill.

(DD)Would you want to spend the rest of your life with me?

(C)Of course, Deirdre, I meant what I said in the throne room at the castle. If you agree to marry me, then I want you to be my wife.

(DD)Really?

(C)Absolutely, to be able to call you my wife and to be bound to you in marriage will make me the happiest goblin on earth. I’m sure Merig and Larry are very happy now that they’re married to their women.

(DD)Oh, there’s no doubt about that, but I’m sure they were just as happy before they were married.

(C)Oh of course, but the title of husband and wife means something to them and it will mean something to me as well.

(DD)It’ll mean the world to me, trust me.

(C)So if I asked you to marry me, would you?

(DD)Oh, Cormac, you don’t even have to ask, I would be the happiest woman if you called me your wife.

(C)I’d be happy if you called me your husband.

(DD)Would you want to marry me?

(C)I wouldn’t even hesitate to propose to you.

(DD)Well, you don’t have to since I already said that I want to.

(C)[smiles] I still want to. If that’s okay, I’d have to find you a ring.

(DD)[smiles] I would love that, Mic, but only if you want to.

(C)Well, the ring would symbolize our love.

(DD)Then I’ll find you a ring as well.[gasp] Maybe we can talk to Grandma Silvia. She loves making jewelry from flowers and resin. Maybe she can make something for us.

(C)That would be wonderful. We can definitely pay her a visit and talk to her.

(DD)We can do it tomorrow since we’re spending time together today. Actually, since we’re going out to the forest anyway, we can go and ask Grandma if she needs me to forage for any flowers for her.

(C)We can do that before we go.

(DD)There is something I need to do. There’s a shop that just opened up that sells seeds and other things like that. I wanted to go and see what they had and if there was anything Grandma would need.

(C)Alright, let’s go there then, and then we can go see her and talk to her.

(DD)Sounds like the perfect plan. Let’s go.

As they walk, Cormac's expression softens, and he shares a warm smile with Deirdre, his eyes crinkling at the corners. Together, they continue their leisurely stroll, Deirdre's hand still clasped around Cormac's arm, her touch a gentle reminder of her affection. Their path leads them to a charming agriculture shop, its exterior a vibrant tapestry of colorful flowers and fragrant herbs, carefully arranged alongside an assortment of gardening tools. Deirdre's face lights up with excitement as she looks around with excitement, revealing a treasure trove of gardening delights. Shelves upon shelves of soil, fertilizer, plant food, and other essentials for nurturing a thriving garden or crop stretch out before them. Deirdre’s smile is infectious, and Cormac can't help but be swept up in her joy, his heart swelling with love for this bright and beautiful woman by his side. Deirdre's eyes sparkle as she explores the shop, her enthusiasm can't be contained, her voice dripping with joy.

(DD)Oh Cormac, look at all of this! This is the first time I’ve visited this place, and it’s so wonderful! There’s everything Grandma will need and I won’t have to go foraging as much. But I’ll still do it if there’s anything this shop doesn’t have.

(C)It looks great here, with everything one would need for agriculture. I’m sure Kate would love to see this place.

(DD)I’ll definitely let her know it’s here so she and Merig can get what they need here. But I’m sure Kate is like me and still wants to forage for things.

(C)True, I’m sure you’re eager to look around.

(DD)You bet I am! I see a few things Grandma needs here. I’ll get what she needs and take it to her tomorrow when we ask about making our rings, if that’s okay, honey. I brought some gold with me. I hope it will be enough for what I need.

(C)Of course, my beautiful sunflower, whatever you need here just let me know and I’ll be happy to get it for you, don’t even worry about it.

(DD)I’ll use what I have so you don’t have to waste your money on me.

(C)You know I don’t mind, sweetheart, but if you feel so inclined to use what you brought, that’s fine as well.

(DD)Alright, I’m excited to look around, come on.

Deirdre's hand slips into Cormac's, and together they embark on a shopping adventure, their faces aglow with excitement. As they wander through the shop, Deirdre gathers the necessities for Silvia, her movements swift and purposeful. Meanwhile, Cormac lingers, his eyes scanning the shelves with a more leisurely pace, his smile mirroring Deirdre's joy. After a while, Cormac steps outside, his gaze drawn to a charming display of trinkets. Amidst the treasures, a delicate hair clip catches his eye, its sunflower motif radiant in the sunlight. He picks it up, his fingers tracing the intricate design, a soft smile spreading across his face. As he stands there, lost in thought, a woman approaches, her presence announced by the gentle rustle of her clothing. Cormac senses her approach, his gaze shifting to meet hers. The woman's wavy, shoulder-length black hair cascades down her back, her eyes locking onto Cormac's with familiarity. As their gazes meet, Cormac's eyes narrow, his mind racing, knowing immediately who she is, his thoughts now tinged with a hint of irritation.

(V)Hi, Cormac.

(C)...What are you doing here, Vic?

(V)I came to visit the city to see what all the commotion was about in Tara.

(C)And you just happened to see me over here and decided to approach me?

(V)Yeah, I noticed you were standing here looking at these nicknacks and thought I’d say “hi”.

(C)Did you forget the last conversation we had back in Taill?

(V)Listen, can we just talk without you getting upset with me this time?

(C)What part of “goodbye” didn’t you understand? I told you I wanted nothing to do with you, Vic.

(V)You barely let me explain my side of the story, Cormac, but I can understand your anger toward me.

(C)Then why are you standing here?

(V)I don’t know, to catch up maybe?

(C)[scoffs] I’d rather not do that, but if you must know, I’m here shopping with Deirdre and I just so happened to find this sunflower hair clip that I think she will love.

(V)So you really have moved on.

(C)I already told you that, Vic, I’m going to ask her to marry me. She’s going to have her grandmother, who runs the flower shop in the city, make our wedding rings. She loves to make jewelry from flowers and resin, and I think it would be perfect to symbolize our love that way since Deirdre loves flowers so much. We even confessed our love for each other out in the forest while foraging for sunflowers. I call her “my beautiful sunflower” because of it and the fact that we made love that night after harvesting them. I killed her attacker, who was a bandit who slashed her back open with a sword and was rescued by the Royal Guard’s commanders several years ago. She has a large scar on her back from it and the day we harvested the sunflowers, we heard noises, so I investigated while Deirdre ran to hide. I found where she was hiding and saw the same bandit that gave her that scar threatening to rape her and had a dagger to her throat while she was stripping. I gave the bandit a ten-second head start to run away, but I shot my crossbow at him and the bolt pierced the back of his head. That was six months ago, and she’s much happier now and I’m taking care of her, but she has also taken care of me as well. She saved my life after I neglected myself while recovering from almost dying from an injury. Long story. Luckily, I survived, but I battled with my mind from being the monster, I told you I was, and Deirdre was there the whole time I recovered when everyone around me convinced me to get help and she took care of me. I owe my life to her.

(V)I’m sorry that happened to you and I’m sorry that happened to her and I’m glad her attacker is dead. She didn’t deserve that.

(C)She doesn’t need your sympathy and neither do I.

(V)Can we at least go somewhere and talk?

(C)I don’t think she would like that very much, considering she’s here with me, but she’s inside the shop. I suggest you leave before she sees us here talking.

(V)You really want nothing to do with me anymore, do you? We can’t even talk about things?

(C)And what exactly do you expect us to talk about, Vic?

(V)I thought I could at least be in your life. It doesn’t have to be romantic.

(C)Well, seeing as you said, you still love me. I don’t think that’s a good idea. Deirdre would definitely not like that very much and neither would I.

(V)At least let me explain myself, Cormac, please?

(C)You already did and you know how that turned out the last time.

(V)[sigh] None of that was supposed to happen back in Taill.

(C)Are you serious right now? Let me ask you something before I blow up and start shouting. When Sean told you and the rest of the citizens what he said happened that night, did you believe him? And did you believe him when he said that I was the bad guy?

(V)...

(C)I thought so, which brings me to my next question. Did you stop loving me when you believed that lie?

(V)...

(C)You can’t answer either of these questions, can you?

(V)[sigh] I stopped loving you after a while, but then I started to miss you a lot. And then I heard that Sean met that woman and I heard how abusive he was to her.

(C)You mean, Kate? The one that he beat half to death and made her lose her unborn child?

(V)Yes, half of the town heard about it, even me. I realized what a monster he was, and I realized he betrayed you and lied to me.

(C)You still believed him before then, did you not?

(V)...Yes, I did.

(C)That’s where you screwed up. You believed him over me. I didn’t give you one reason to not trust me. I treated you with love and kindness and not once did I hurt you. But you were my first love and you hurt me. I’ve let go of the pain from when Sean betrayed me for the most part, but the pain you inflicted on me is gone and it’s just pure anger toward you. I don’t love you, Vic, and I’ll never love you again. All of my love belongs to Deirdre, I belong to Deirdre, and she loves me and has shown me that I can trust her not to hurt me, too. Not once has she given me a reason not to. I’ve trusted her from the moment I met her. She’s sweet and innocent, and I want to be with her for the rest of my life.

(V)I just wish things were different.

(C)So did I, Vic, but not anymore because I moved on and found a better life and a better love that I’m proud of, and with a woman that I cherish. You need to forget I exist, Vic, and move on yourself because I want nothing to do with you. The more you get that through your head, the fewer problems you’ll have and the easier it will be for you to move on, too.

(DD)Alright, my love, I’ve got everything I need, and it’s ready at the front desk so we can purchase it.

(C)Okay, my sunflower, here I found this and thought you might like it.

(DD)[gasp] It’s so pretty, it would look perfect in my hair.

(C)If you like it, I’ll get it for you.

(DD)Only if you want to, Mic, I absolutely love it.

(C)Of course, anything for you, sweetheart.

(DD)...Oh hi, I’m sorry, I didn’t notice you were standing there…Mic, do you know this woman?

(C)Oh, she’s…

(V)I was just leaving, sorry for the intrusion. It was nice seeing you again, Cormac…

(C)[sigh] Thank the gods.

(DD)What was that all about, my love?

(C)Nothing, sweetheart, let’s go check out and take the stuff home and then head out to the forest.

(DD)[smiles] Yes, of course, let’s go. Oh, Don’t forget, we have to meet back at the pub to sign that birthday note for Kate’s dad.

(C)Right, we’ll go there first.

(DD)Alright, let’s go.

Cormac and Deirdre complete their purchases, their arms laden with bags and boxes, and make their way back to their cozy home. After settling their belongings, they head to the pub, eager to reunite with their friends. Meanwhile, Kate and Merig arrive at the pub, the staff safely stowed in its wooden box, as Kate painstakingly crafts a heartfelt note for everyone to sign. Barth slips out of the pub, bound for the healer, to collect Sarah for their lunch date and to add her signature to the note. Upon arriving at the healer, Barth pushes open the door, and a warm smile spreads across his face as he takes in the familiar scene. Sarah, engrossed in her work, looks up from her workstation, where she's meticulously brewing her renowned pain-reducing potions. Nessa moves about the room, tidying up and making the beds with quiet efficiency. As Barth enters, Sarah's eyes meet his, and they share a tender smile, the air filled with the sweet scent of herbs and the promise of a lovely afternoon together.

(S)Good afternoon, my love.

(B)Good afternoon, my beautiful rabbit, I’ve come to steal you away for lunch like I promised.

(S)[smiles] Oh, have you now?

(B)[smiles] That’s right, and as I said, we’ll celebrate you moving in with me with some lunch, and then whenever Nessa gives you another day off, I’ll take you out and we can spend the whole day together.

(N)Well, tomorrow is the weekend, isn’t it?

(S)Yes, it is, Miss Nessa.

(N)Well then, I don’t see why I can’t take care of things here by myself while you two lovebirds go and have fun. Oh, and congratulations on living together. I’m sure you’re both happy to be able to share a home and spend all the time you want with each other.

(B)Oh absolutely, I get to wake up to Sarah’s beautiful face every morning and when we go to sleep at night.

(S)[blush] I was a bit nervous at first when we were in bed together, but it felt really nice to have someone hold me while I slept like a baby. Barth and I have laid in the same bed before, but I never stayed the night with him. It’s only been a few days, but we’ve adjusted better than I thought we would.

(B)It’s true, but it’s only been a few days, you’ll get tired of me, eventually.

(S)Not at all. I was actually worried you’d get tired of me.

(B)Of course not, sweetheart, I very much enjoy your presence in our home together.

(S)[smiles] Aww, I enjoy your presence too, Barth.

(B)Oh, I also want to remind you that we have to meet up with Kate and the others before we head out to lunch. She and Merig showed up with a big box ready to be shipped off to Taill for her father. She sent me to fetch you so we can all sign the birthday note.

(S)[gasp] Oh that’s right, I completely forgot, I’m so sorry.

(B)Don’t be, it’s a good thing I’m here to remind you.

(S)Sometimes I don’t know what I’d do without you, I’m so scatterbrain these days,

(B)Well, you’ve been working hard and I’m here to rescue you from your hard work so you can relax and we can spend lunch together.

(S)[giggles] I’d love that very much, sweetheart, if Nessa is okay with me sneaking away for a while.

(N)You two lovebirds get out of here and have some fun. Send Kate’s father my love as well for his birthday. Her parents are so sweet.

(B)They are and they plan on being here when the tiny goblin is born.

(N)Oh, I’m sure they do and I’m sure they’re excited to be grandparents.

(B)Oh, they definitely are and I’m excited to be an uncle, that tiny goblin and I will cause so much trouble in Tara.

(N)[giggle] Oh I bet, you’re a troublemaker as it is, you’ll just have a tiny partner in crime.

(B)[chuckles] That’s right, but Kate and Merig are the most excited about starting their beautiful family. No matter how much Kate’s feet hurt, she says it’s worth it.

(N)I don’t blame her. After losing a child the first time, it’s very significant if the mother succeeds in getting pregnant again and giving birth to a healthy child. It’ll mean something to her, especially with the one she loves, which is Merig since those two are so in love and she’s more than happy to be his wife and the mother to his goblin children.

(S)That’s right and being with someone who treats her with love and kindness, opposite to what Sean did to her, that’s also very significant to her, and Merig is so good to her. She’s very happy with him and to be with someone like him. You’re good to me as well, Barth, and I wouldn’t expect any less from you since you’re his older brother who he got his influence from on how to treat a woman.

(B)[chuckles] Yeah well, it’s just common sense that you don’t hurt the person you love the most because it’s not love if you do, and I’ll always say that and I’ll always live by it. I love you so much, Sarah, and I couldn’t even imagine myself being a monster. I may be a Fomor, but I’m no monster.

(S)I know you aren’t, sweetheart, you are so wonderful to me and I appreciate everything you do for me. You’re the gentle type, just like Merig, and I’m sure he learned it from you.

(B)I try, sometimes I’m afraid I’ll break you just by touching you.

(S)[giggles] And that’s what makes you so wonderful. You treat me as if I’m fragile, but you also still give me the love that you do, and I’m still in one piece, as you can see.

(B)I wouldn’t want you any other way because that’s not me. I just couldn’t fathom it.

(S)And that’s why I love you.

(B)[smiles] I love you, too. Now come with me, my beautiful rabbit. I’ve got a great place in mind that we can go eat at for lunch. Let’s head over to the pub first.

(S)Alright, we’ll see you later, Nessa.

(N)You two have fun. I’ll see you back here after lunch, Sarah.

(B)See you later, Nessa.

(N)Bye, you two.

Sarah stands up from her desk with excitement, her face radiant with anticipation. She wraps herself in her cloak, preparing for the crisp autumn air that awaits them outside. Barth extends his arm, offering Sarah a gallant support, and she clings to him gently, savoring the closeness. Together, they exit the building, immersing themselves in the fresh breeze and the street's bustle. They arrive at the pub, and upon entering, are enveloped by the warm atmosphere and the hum of conversations. They make their way to the table where everyone is gathered, signing the birthday note one by one, their faces aglow with smiles and laughter. The excitement is strong as they approach, ready to join in the celebration.

(B)We’re here, sorry about that.

(S)He had to fetch me so we could come and sign the note for your dad before you send off his gift.

(K)Yep, here, go ahead, everyone else has already signed it, so it’s just you two left.

(S)Alright, don’t mind if I do.

(B)So what exactly is in the box?

(K)[smiles] Would you like to see it?

(B)Sure, that’s a pretty big box.

Kate hands Sarah a pen, inviting her to add her signature to the birthday note, as Kate herself begins to unwrap the box's treasure. With a flourish, Kate lifts the lid, revealing the majestic staff within. She carefully lifts it out, Merig assisting her, and together they hold it aloft for all to see. The room falls silent as the staff's beauty commands attention. Barth's eyes widen in awe, mirroring the wonder on every face. The staff's intricate craftsmanship and radiant energy seem to mesmerize the group, as if time itself has paused to appreciate its splendor. Barth's voice breaks the spell, his words filled with reverence and admiration.

(B)Holy shit, that’s a guardian staff. It’s beautiful. Oh, Tom is going to love that.

(K)He’s always wanted one, I just hope he does love it.

(B)Kate, you’re the best daughter any parent could ask for. He’s going to love it, especially if it’s coming from you.

(M)He’s right, I appreciated the bow he sent me as a gift for becoming a knight. He will definitely appreciate this staff as a birthday gift.

(DD)I think your dad will love it. I remember meeting him and he’s just as wonderful as you, Kate. Your mother is as well.

(C)Of course, they raised her, so it makes sense that she’s an amazing person too.

(A)Ever since I met her, she’s been that way. And even after all these years, she’s never changed.

(L)I’ve only known you for over two years and nothing has ever changed from the moment I met you. And Merig too, but he knows you on a more intimate level.

(M)Even so, she’s never acted differently behind closed doors. Always the amazing woman she’s been since day one.

(G)Considering I’ve spent some time with you and got to know you better, and even after my sins, you’ve been wonderful, Kate. But don’t get her angry, she’s scary.

(C)Agreed, I’ll never forget the beating I received from her. It was well deserved, though, so I can’t fault her. We love you, Kate.

(K)[smiles] Stop it, don’t make me cry in front of you all, I’ll do it.

(B)[chuckles] Hey as long as they’re happy tears, remember? Also, speaking on beatings, Merig, did you and Cormac enjoy giving Sean his dose?

(M)Always, Cormac was excited, weren’t you, buddy?

(C)Absolutely, some pain resurfaced, but that’s just because I’ll never truly forget. I’ll heal, but I’ll have scars and lingering pain that’s been numbed by the perfect like I have here.

(K)That’s right, Cormac, don’t let that pain consume you again. You’re better and stronger than that. Don’t forget it.

(C)That means a lot, Kate. Deirdre is the one that made me realize all of that. We’ve all been through some pain and you all know as well that you don’t fully heal from it. You just surround yourself with people you care about and who care about you and will help you take that pain away when you need it. Deirdre and I have been together for six months and we share a home, and she makes me forget about that pain every day and I appreciate her more than anything. I appreciate you all as well.

(K)It’s the same with me. Being with Merig has taken all of my pain away, despite everything. And for what it’s worth, you don’t deserve that pain. I know what I said that night back at your old hideout, that I wanted you to suffer for killing Merig. That was out of anger and I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry.

(C)Don’t you dare apologize, Kate, there’s nothing you need to be sorry for. What I did was wrong and in a sense, I did deserve to suffer, but I learned my lesson and I suffered pain.

(K)You suffered enough, Cormac, and at least you learned from your mistakes.

(C)I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for you all. You’re all family to me, even if you hated me before or even resented me. This is my home, and this is where I’m meant to be…Again I need to confess, Deirdre, that woman you saw me talking to at that shop. That was Victoria, the woman I was with back in Taill. I’m sorry.

(DD)Why are you sorry?

(C)She’s trying really hard to inject herself into my life again, and I told her that it wasn’t a good idea, considering she told me back in Taill that she still loves me. I told her she couldn’t be in my life if that was the case because she was not taking me away from Deirdre. I don’t even know why she’s here in Tara, but knowing that she still has feelings for me, I’m sure her intention is to try to get me back. I told her no and that, well…I should probably tell you all this as well. I’ve asked Deirdre to marry me, and she’s agreed to it.

(K)[gasp] Oh my goodness, finally!

(M)Congrats, buddy

(B)Happy for you.

(G)I’m sure you’re both excited.

(L)You’re going to be joining the married goblin club, pal.

(S)I’m sure you’re happy, Deirdre.

(DD)Absolutely I am.

(A)Wedding planning time again. That will be fun.

(K)Oh definitely.

(C)[chuckles] We don’t have wedding rings yet, but Deirdre is going to talk to Silvia and see if she’ll make us some rings from her beautiful flowers and resin. Deirdre and I confessed our love in a field of flowers, so it’s only appropriate and it will symbolize our love.

(K)Oh you two, that’s beautiful. I’m sure Silvia would make something for you.

(DD)We’re going to go visit the shop tomorrow and talk to her when I bring her some stuff from that new shop.[gasp] I almost forgot to mention, Kate, there’s a new shop that’s opened up in the city. It’s an agriculture shop, and it has everything, even produce and herbs. I saw mushrooms there and things you use for your cooking, and I thought you might like to go there and get what you need so you don’t have to forage as much.

(K)Oh, that would be wonderful, I’ll definitely have to check it out! But you know me, I still love foraging. Granted, I can’t do it right now, but that’s okay.

(M)I’ll take you sometime next week if you’d like.

(K)I would love that, honey. But enough about that. Congratulations to you both, Deirdre and Cormac.

(C)Thanks, we’re excited to see what Silvia will make for us if she’s willing to.

(K)Oh, she will, when it comes to love, she doesn’t hesitate.

(B)That was evident when she made the necklace I gave to Sarah, and I merely mentioned wanting to find a necklace for her. She didn’t charge me anything.

(DD)That was sweet of her, she’s always played cupid just like Kate over there.

(K)I have no idea what you’re talking about.[smirk]

(DD)[giggles] If it wasn’t for you, Cormac and I would’ve never got to know each other, so I owe it to you.

(C)We both do, thank you, Kate.

(K)[smiles] Hey, everyone needs love, except for Sean. He can rot in prison for all I care. I got to watch Merig and Cormac beat him senseless.

(DD)I did too. They did not show him mercy at all. I enjoyed watching it. He hurt the love of my life, and he deserves it.

(M)Agreed. Even Tom got the opportunity to give him a beating for hurting his precious daughter and he enjoyed it as well.

(L)Good, you don’t ever hurt a father’s daughter unless you desire death.

(K)Dad would’ve killed Sean had he not begged for his life. That’s another thing Dad told me when he explained what he did to Sean in detail the first time he rescued me. He said Sean begged for his life while I was getting my things packed.

(B)I’d expect that from a coward like Sean.

(C)Me too. Honestly, after he tried making me fight those bandits by myself, I realized he was a coward. But that doesn't matter anymore. What matters is our perfect lives. And my perfect life with my future wife.

(DD)[smiles] I can hardly wait, my love.

(K)You’re both so cute together. Alright, did everyone sign the note?

(B)Yep, I was the last one. Here you go.

(K)Alright, I’ll send this off at the trading post, and I’ll see you all later.

(C)We’ll see you all later, as well. Deirdre and I are going out in the forest for old-time sake. It’s been a while and it’ll get colder soon, so we better enjoy it while we can.

(L)Alright, you two have fun.

(DD)We definitely will.

(B)I’m taking Sarah out to lunch, so I’ll be back here in a while.

(L)Alright, you two have fun as well. And congrats on living together. I’m sure you’re both enjoying it so far.

(S)Absolutely, Barth wants to take me out to lunch to celebrate, and then this weekend, we’re going to spend a day off together.

(B)If Merig is okay with giving me a day off.

(M)You don’t even have to ask, big brother. You and Sarah have fun and I’m happy for you both sharing a home.

(B)[smiles] Thanks, little brother, we’ll see you all later then.

(A)We’ll see you all later. Have fun.

As the gathering disperses, Kate and Merig make their way to the trading post, the precious gift in hand, ready to be sent off to its recipient. Meanwhile, Barth and Sarah saunter off to savor a leisurely lunch together, their spirits high. Cormac and Deirdre, hand in hand, make their way toward the north entrance, seeking the tranquil embrace of the autumn forest. The rustling leaves and golden light envelop them as they stroll, Deirdre clinging to Cormac, her gaze lost in thought. A faint frown etches itself on her face, her mind drifting back to Cormac's earlier mention of Victoria at the prison. Cormac notices the shift in her demeanor, his eyes gentle with concern. He speaks up with his soft voice, his words a gentle inquiry into her troubled thoughts.

(C)Hey, what’s wrong, Deirdre?

(DD)Oh nothing, I just have something on my mind.

(C)Talk to me, my sunflower, whatever it is I’m here.

(DD)Does that woman really want to be in your life again?

(C)[sigh] Yes, she does, but it’s not happening, Deirdre. She’s going to cause problems for us if I let her back into my life, especially with you. I’m just hoping she doesn’t cause problems now. If she ever approaches you in public when I’m not around, you let me know, okay?

(DD)Okay, my love, would she ever try to take you away from me?

(C)I hope not, but I won’t let it happen, I promise. You are the woman I love, not her, and I’ve told you as much. My life with you is peaceful and I don’t need her causing any trouble. I’ll stop it before it even starts.

(DD)I’m just worried, that’s all. She may try to hurt me or even hurt you.

(C)She can hurt me all she wants, but she will not touch you and I’ll make sure of it.

(DD)But I don’t want her hurting you either, Mic.

(C)I can take it, but I won’t let her do anything to you. I know you’re worried, but we have built a life together here and I won’t let anyone destroy it, Deirdre, not even her. I’ll ban her from this city if I have to. Merig will be more than happy to do that for me.

(DD)You really want nothing to do with her, do you?

(C)Absolutely not. She’s not even an afterthought, she’s never crossed my mind until I saw her today. I want to forget she even exists.

(DD)What else did she say to you?

(C)She wanted to “catch up” and tell me her side of the story. I told her that wasn’t happening either. She didn’t deserve to know everything. She only needs to know that I’m with someone that I love and will never leave.

(DD)Maybe you should’ve heard her out and listened to what she had to say.

(C)No, I was spending time with you and she already told me her side and I don’t care. She still did what she did, and there was no excuse for it. I told her she should’ve thought for herself. She said she stopped loving me until she heard about Sean and what he did to Kate. Most of the town heard about it and she realized he was a monster and lied to her.

(DD)So she’s remorseful, after knowing she was told a lie.

(C)Yeah, but she never came looking for me after I ran out of Taill and she made an excuse that she didn’t know where I was even though she knew about me becoming a bandit. She didn’t like bandits at all and didn’t want anything to do with me when I became one. She had over a decade to reconnect with me and never did. If she loved me, she would have.

(DD)Maybe she was ashamed that she believed a lie and thought you would hate her.

(C)In a way, I did, but for some reason after all this time she now wants to be in my life again and she said she still loves me, so I’m guessing she thought I would just take her back and she could be with me again. Unfortunately for her, that’s not happening because I’m making a commitment to you, Deirdre. I want to marry you and have a life together like we do now, only I'll get to call you my wife.

(DD)[smiles] I can't wait. I'm making a commitment to you as well, and I'll get to call you my husband. I don't want that woman in our lives if she's going to try to take you from me. I'm trying not to feel sorry for her and I don't. But I do have a question.

(C)What is it?

(DD)I know you have pent-up anger, pain, and frustration. You wouldn't take that out on me, would you?

(C)Of course not, Deirdre, why would you ask that?

(DD)I just don't like seeing you angry and I saw how badly you hurt Sean. I don't just mean physically. I mean verbally or emotionally, too.

(C)Deirdre, none of my negative emotions are of your doing. I've told you this whole time, you take away all of it and make me happy. Why would I do anything to hurt you? You aren't afraid of me, are you?

(DD)Of course not, Mic, I just need reassurance, that's all. Please don't be upset with me.

(C)I'm not, my beautiful sunflower, I promise.

(DD)You don't believe I would betray you like Victoria did, do you?

(C)No, I one hundred percent trust you and you have never given me any reason to believe that you would betray me.

(DD)Good, because I would never do that. I know you’re a wonderful person and if someone accused you of doing anything horrible, I wouldn’t believe them. I would defend you, stand by you, and never leave you. I know you said you did horrible things in the past, but that’s not who you are anymore.

(C)I’m so glad to hear that. We’re almost where I wanted to take you.

(DD)[smiles] I can’t wait.

Cormac and Deirdre meander through the forest, the rustling and crunching leaves and snapping twigs beneath their feet serving as a soothing background. As they round a bend, a hidden path comes into view, blocked off by branches and leaves. It's nestled among a tapestry of vibrant foliage and towering trees, their leaves transformed into a kaleidoscope of autumn hues. Deirdre's eyes sparkle with anticipation as Cormac takes her hand, leading her towards the secluded haven. He gently pushes aside the branches, heavy with colorful leaves, revealing a small, private entrance. As they step inside, Deirdre's gaze dances around the intimate space, her face aglow with wonder. A soft smile blossoms on her lips, and her voice trembles with excitement as she takes in the beauty of their secret sanctuary.

(DD)[smiles] Oh my goodness, is this what you wanted to show me?

(C)Yeah, I found it a while back while I was out here patrolling. I figured it would be the perfect spot for us to spend time together and be alone. Do you like it?

(DD)I absolutely love it, Mic, it’s perfect, and it feels so cozy despite the temperature starting to go down.

(C)Don’t worry, I’ll keep you warm.

(DD)[giggles] I know you will. Now I’m pretty sure I remember you saying something about us making love out here in the forest.

(C)Would you want to? I know it’s not the most romantic place.

(DD)I disagree, I think it’s a beautiful thing to make love in nature. Kate and Merig did that on their honeymoon and they said it brought them closer together, physically and spiritually. Kate said that their souls became one and I want that for us, too. You asked me to marry you and I want to celebrate that by making love with you. What better way to do that than to make love together in the one place that you made me feel safe in again? I owe it to you, Cormac, and I willingly give myself to you.

(C)You don’t owe me anything, Deirdre, but if you’re willing, then I’ll oblige. I would love for us to make love out here, where we’ve spent time together and confessed our love to each other. I want us to be connected in body and spirit, and I think it would be a beautiful thing to experience together. I want to marry you and be with you forever, and no one else can tear us apart. I won’t let them.

(DD)I won’t let them either. I want to marry you too, and I don’t want anyone to take you away from me.

(C)That’s never going to happen, I promise.

(DD)Good, let’s become one, my love, and become bound to each other and create an unbreakable bond.

(C)With pleasure, my beautiful sunflower.

With a smile between the two, Deirdre gracefully removes her cloak and lays it flat on the grass, littered with colorful autumn leaves. She approaches Cormac, as he reaches out for her, gently cupping her cheeks with a soft smile spreading across his face. He leans down to press his lips against hers in a tender kiss. As they part, Cormac takes off his cape and lays it atop the cloak on the ground, creating a makeshift pallet for them to lie upon. Cormac stands up straight and approaches Deirdre, their gazes meet with longing in her eyes. Deirdre begins to undress, slowly removing each garment until she stands bare before Cormac. She then removes her shoes and the sunflower hair clip that Cormac bought her, placing them on the ground near her clothes. Cormac follows suit, shedding his light armor piece by piece until he is fully naked in front of her. The two now stand before each other, their bodies flushed with anticipation. Deirdre walks to the makeshift pallet and gracefully lays herself down. Cormac approaches and kneels, positioning himself between Deirdre's legs. He lowers himself to her lips as their bodies intertwine, his body providing warmth against the crisp autumn air. After a while, Cormac sits back up on his knees and explores Deirdre's body with his hands. He caresses every inch of her skin, cupping her breasts and eliciting sighs and moans from her. He then moves his hands down to grip her hips. In this moment, surrounded by nature's beauty, the passion between them grows as Cormac makes love to Deirdre. The two express their love and celebrate their engagement to be married. Their vocal expressions of pleasure echo through the trees as Deirdre surrenders herself to Cormac, her soon-to-be husband. The sounds of their lovemaking mix with the rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds. After they finish, they lay naked on their makeshift bed, wrapped in each other's arms, panting and sweating as the autumn air cools them off. Their hearts overflow with joy as they smile at each other and share more passionate kisses. The sound of birds singing and leaves rustling adds to the peaceful ambiance as they continue to spend intimate time together in the beauty of nature. As the afternoon wears on, Kate and Merig arrive at the trading post, their final stop for the day. Merig carefully carries the large box, bound for Thomas in Tailltean, as they approach the tent. Lougo and Eru, busy with their duties, turn their attention to the duo, Lougo's face breaking into a warm smile. However, Eru's eyes suddenly widen in surprise, a look of curiosity crossing his face, his gaze fixed on Kate's noticeably rounded figure, her pregnancy now unmistakable.

(K)Good afternoon, Lougo, and Eru.

(LO)Good afternoon, Kate, Commander.

(M)Good afternoon, you two.

(LO)What brings you both here?

(K)Well, I was wondering if you could send something off for me. It’s a birthday gift for my father back in Taill.

(LO)Sure, I see that’s a very big package you’re holding, Merig.

(M)Yep, it’s a staff, sorry about that.

(K)My dad is a mage and he’ll very much appreciate it.

(LO)That’s perfectly fine. I’ll be happy to ship it off for you.

(K)Thank you so much, Lougo.

(M)Here, be careful, it’s a bit heavy.

(LO)No problem, I’ll take it.

Lougo steps forward, his movements swift and purposeful, and approaches Merig, relieving him of the large box. With a nod, he disappears into the tent, the box bound for Tailltean. Eru's gaze remains fixed on Kate, his eyes wide with curiosity, until Merig notices and shoots him a stern glance, his crimson eyes flashing a warning. Eru's eyes grow even wider, fear flickering across his face, as he flinches under Merig's intense stare. Just then, Lougo emerges from the tent, a warm smile spreading across his face as his gaze falls upon Kate's rounded belly. His eyes light up with delight, and he speaks up, his voice filled with excitement and curiosity.

(LO)I see the bun is still in the oven.

(K)[smiles] That’s right, less than three weeks and he’ll be here. He’s a heavy one, and he’s very active, especially when people are talking.

(LO)I’m sure you’re excited to meet him, though.

(K)Absolutely, it’ll be a successful pregnancy this time.

(LO)This time? Were you pregnant before this?

(K)I was, I’m sure you heard about what happened six months ago.

(LO)Yeah, I remember. You all left and came back on horses. I was wondering what happened. Then you filled me in on everything.

(K)Well, the man we fought to rescue Merig not only almost beat me to death long before I came here, but he made me lose my first unborn child.

(LO)Oh my god, I’m so sorry for your loss, Kate. That must have been a horrible thing to go through.

(K)It wasn’t easy for sure, but I have a wonderful husband and soon-to-be father of this child who makes me happy and smile so that I don’t feel that pain anymore. Of course, it’s still there and never truly goes away, but the life I have at least remedies the pain I still have.

(LO)Well, the city of Tara loves and appreciates you, Kate. Even Eru, even if he doesn’t want to admit it.

(ER)...[scowl] Hmph.

(M)[glare] Not a word, Eru.

(ER)[groans] You’re not the boss of me.

(LO)[sigh] Can’t you be nice for once, Eru? Sorry about him.

(K)It’s no problem at all.

(LO)I know this is an odd request, but I’m actually fascinated by your belly. You said he’s active…do you mind if I feel him kick?

(K)[smiles] Not at all, Lougo, you’re more than welcome to.

Kate glides forward, her hands cradling her swollen belly, as she approaches Lougo with a gentle smile. She beckons him to offer his hands, and he obliges, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. Kate places his palms on the tender spots where the baby's movements are most pronounced, her hands guiding his with a tender touch. Lougo stands motionless, his eyes wide with anticipation, as he waits for the baby's response. Eru observes the scene with fascinated attention, his interest piqued. Suddenly, Lougo's ears twitch, and his face illuminates with a radiant smile as he feels the baby's tiny kicks and nudges, his eyes shining with wonder. He speaks up, his voice trembling with excitement, as the baby's movements bring a sense of magic to the moment.

(LO)I feel it!

(K)It's a beautiful thing, isn't it?

(LO)It really is. Hey Eru, you should really feel this. There's a tiny goblin in here.

(ER)...

(K)Would you like to feel him kick, Eru?

Lougo releases his gentle grasp on Kate's belly, and she glides away, her movements graceful despite her advanced pregnancy. She approaches Eru, her gaze warm and gentle, as she stands before him, looking up at her swollen belly. Eru's eyes remain wide with wonder, fixed on the miracle of new life growing within her. Kate slowly kneels, her movements deliberate and careful, until she's seated on her knees, her belly now at eye level with Eru. He takes a step back, his eyes still fixed on Kate's belly, a hint of apprehension in his demeanor. Kate's smile is soft and reassuring as she speaks to him in a voice like honey, her words dripping with sweetness and kindness.

(K)Would you like to feel the baby kick?

(ER)...Are you really carrying a goblin in there?

(K)That’s right, and he’s very healthy. He’ll be born soon and we’ll all get to meet him.

(ER)Hmph, you know how I feel about all of that.

(K)Hey, I know you don’t like humans very much and that’s okay. Some humans don’t like Fomors very much and that’s okay too, but I don’t agree with either hating each other. I think we should all live in peace and coexist. I fell in love with Merig and I love him very much no matter if he’s a Fomor. We got married, and now I’m pregnant, and it means a lot to me. You know what happened to me in my past, so I hope that you will understand why this life I have with Merig and everyone else means so much to me.

(ER)...Yeah, I remember, I’m sorry that happened to you.

(K)Don’t be, I don’t hate you, Eru, and I hope you don’t hate me either. I want us to get along and I don’t mind being a friend if you’ll let me. If you don’t want to feel the baby kick, that’s okay.

(ER)I do, it’s actually quite fascinating that you’re incubating a Fomor in there.

(K)And I’ll love him just the same as I would if he were a human child. This tiny goblin inside my womb is still my child, and I will take good care of him and watch him grow.

(ER)That’ll be a site to see.

(K)Go ahead and feel, he’s very active because he hears us talking.

(ER)...Alright, I’ll do it.

Eru's apprehension slowly gives way to curiosity, and he takes a step forward, his tiny imp frame approaching Kate with caution. He stands before her, his gaze fixed on the rounded swell of her belly, his eyes wide with a mix of wonder and apprehension. With a deep breath, he extends his small hands, his fingers splayed, and gently places them on Kate's belly, his touch tentative. He waits in silence, his eyes locked on the spot where his hands rest, anticipating the baby's movement. Suddenly, a tiny kick startles him, and he jumps back, his eyes flying wide, his mouth agape in surprise. A slow, enchanted smile spreads across his face, his eyes sparkling with delight, as he experiences the magic of new life.

(ER)I felt something!

(K)[giggles] He’s saying “hello”, he heard us talking.

(ER)That’s amazing…I don’t hate you, I’ve just seen so much hate for Fomors, but you don’t hate them at all.

(K)No, I don’t, I grew up around them and was taught to coexist with them. As you can see, my husband is a Fomor and so is the child growing in my belly. I’m very happy and proud to be starting a family with Merig. My best friend is now married to Larry, another friend of mine is engaged to Cormac, and my other friend that I grew up with is with Barth. The women are human and they too have fallen in love with Fomors.

(ER)I guess I have to rethink my perspective on humans.

(K)Not all of us dislike Fomors and more humans are accepting of them. Even humans that disliked them have changed their perspective, so it’s not uncommon and I applaud you for rethinking yours.

(ER)I want to meet him when he’s born. Have you thought of a name?

(K)Not yet, but we will. But the queen will be holding a ceremony and we’ll hopefully think of a name before then. You and Lougo are more than welcome to attend.

(LO)We can’t wait, we’d love to be there.

(ER)I guess I’ll be there, too.

(K)I love to hear that, Eru, and I hope we can become good friends.

(M)Kate is a very sweet and kind person. She’s helped out the city and people love her.

(ER)I know and I’m sorry for being so hostile. I know you’re a good human, so I’ll be more open-minded.

(LO)See what happens when you’re nice to people, Eru?

(ER)[scowl] No one asked you.

(K)[giggles] Well, I think it’s time for us to go. I’m getting tired from being out all morning. I’d like to go to the pub to relax and then head home for dinner. Is that okay, my love?

(M)Of course, I’ll help you up, sweetheart.

(K)It was good seeing you both and the next time we meet, I’ll most likely be holding this child in my arms. Thank you again for doing me this favor, Lougo. You should have the address from the last parcel my parents sent me the last time.

(LO)I do. It’s no problem at all, and we can’t wait to see the baby.

(ER)Agreed, see you later, Kate.

(K)See you later, Eru, and Lougo.

(LO)See you both later.

Merig offers Kate a gentle hand up, and she accepts, her movements graceful as successfully she rises to her feet. Together, they stroll away from the trading post and make their way to the cozy pub. The warm atmosphere envelops them, and they unwind with their companions, sharing stories and laughter after a busy morning. As the evening draws to a close, the group bids each other farewell, seeking the comfort of their homes and well-deserved rest.
