Meet the Flynns

The next morning, the city awakens, and the group sets out to tackle the day. Gordo navigates the winding streets and alleyways, his feet carrying him toward the training grounds, where his daily duties await. As he's walking down an empty alleyway, a woman with straight shoulder-length brown hair emerges from around the corner, her face etched with distress. Her eyes dart about, searching for a haven, before locking onto Gordo. With a sense of urgency, she rushes toward him, her voice trembling as she speaks in a frantic tone, her words spilling out in a desperate plea for help.

(EM)Help! Please, these men are after me.

(G)What?

Gordo's gaze snaps upward, his eyes scanning the surrounding area, as he swiftly takes in the woman's distress. Moments later, two men burst into view from around the corner where the woman emerged, their faces twisted in scowls, their eyes scanning the alleyway with a sense of urgency. Their gazes lock onto the woman and Gordo, and their expressions darken further. With a chorus of angry shouts, the men charge towards them, their footsteps pounding the cobblestones, their intentions unmistakable. The woman's grip on Gordo's arm tightens, her eyes wide with fear, as the men bear down on them with menacing intent. The alleyway, once a quiet passage, is now a scene of unfolding chaos.

(G)Get behind me, I’ll take care of them.

The frantic woman swiftly takes cover behind Gordo, using his broad frame as a shield against the approaching men. The two men, their faces red with anger, charge forward, their footsteps echoing off the alleyway walls. They halt in front of Gordo, their stances aggressive, their eyes blazing with hostility. Gordo stands firm, his arms crossed over his chest, his eyes flashing with a warning. He positions himself protectively in front of the woman, his body language a clear deterrent. With a deep, authoritative voice, he asserts his dominance, his tone firm and commanding.

(G)Do you two need something?

(M1)Yeah, that bitch that’s hiding behind you! She owes us an apology.

(G)And what exactly did she do that would warrant you chasing after her? Must’ve been something terrible.

(M2)She wasn’t watching where she was going and bumped into us.

(G)Is that it? Was it an accident?

(M1)She said it was, but she didn't apologize.

(EM)That's a damn lie. I apologized. You two assholes said you didn't care, and that you were going to teach me some “manners”.

(G)Sorry guys, but that's not going to happen. The lady apologized, so you’ll just have to accept it and move on.

(M1)Who the hell are you, anyway?

(G)Don't you recognize the uniform? I'm a Royal Guard.

(EM)Are you really a Royal Guard? That’s awesome!

(M2)Wait, I've seen you around. Your commander he's a goblin, too, right?

(G)That's right, his brother is the captain, a friend of ours is second in command, another friend is the sergeant and I'm the lieutenant. All of us are goblins.

(M1)Well, listen, we don't care who you are. We want that woman hiding behind you, and we'll fight you if we have to.

(G)Are you sure you want to do that? The queen doesn’t take kindly to that.

(M2)Yeah, I think we do want that. We don’t care who takes kindly to it.

(G)I don’t think you want that. The queen doesn’t allow anyone to assault her guards.

(M1)You’ve got two choices. Either you hand that woman over, or we fight.

(G)Sadly, I only have one choice. Unfortunately for you two, the other one you mentioned isn't an option.

(M2)[chuckles] Then it looks like we're fighting a Royal Guard today.

(G)Alright, but trust me, it won't end well for either of you.

(M1)We'll see about that.

(G)This shouldn't take long, just stand back. I don’t want you getting hurt.

(EM)Right.

The woman maintains a safe distance behind Gordo as he readies himself for battle, pulling out his martial arts gloves and slipping them onto his hands with a swift motion. The two men, undaunted by Gordo's preparedness, crack their knuckles and charge forward with bare fists. Gordo flashes a confident smirk, assuming a fighting stance that exudes agility and precision. With lightning-fast reflexes, Gordo dashes forward, unleashing a powerful punch that connects with a resounding crack, sending one of the men stumbling backward. The second man lunges at Gordo with a wild swing, but Gordo seizes his fist, pushing him back to fuel a spinning kick that causes the man to hit the wall and crash to the ground. The first man still standing, fueled by rage, launches himself at Gordo once more. But Gordo is unfazed, grabbing the man and bringing him down with a swift knee to the stomach. The man crumples to the ground, gasping for air, as Gordo stands over him, fists still raised, ready to strike again. The two men lie on the ground, groaning and grunting in pain, as Gordo remains vigilant, his eyes scanning the two, prepared to continue fighting if need be. The woman watches from a safe distance, her eyes wide with a mix of fear and gratitude.

(G)Are you two done already? I was just warming up and having fun.

(M1)Alright, you win!

(G)I told you it wouldn't end well. Now apologize to the lady and get the hell out of here!

(M2)Alright, we're sorry, okay?!

(M1)Come on, let's go!

The two men struggle to their feet, their faces etched with pain and humiliation. They limp away as fast as their battered bodies can carry them, casting nervous glances over their shoulders as they flee in the opposite direction. Gordo watches them go, a triumphant smirk spreading across his face as he crosses his arms over his chest. He chuckles to himself, clearly amused by the men's cowardly retreat. With a final glance at the fleeing men, Gordo turns his attention to the woman behind him. He approaches her with a concerned expression, his eyes scanning her face for any signs of distress.

(G)Hey, are you okay? Did they hurt you at all?

(EM)My arm hurts from one of them grabbing me, but other than that, I'm okay, thank you.

(G)No problem, it’s my job. So what’s your name?

(EM)Emerald Gallagher, you?

(G)Gordo Berkus, it’s nice to meet you.

(ED)Nice to meet you, too. I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble.

(G)Not at all, like I said, it's part of my job as a guard.

(EM)I see. Well thank you again, I owe you. I do have somewhere to be. I'm so sorry.

(G)No worries, I can escort you there just to be safe. If you want me to, that is.

(EM)Are you sure? I'm not keeping you from your work, am I?

(G)Like I said, this pretty much is my work. I insist, I wouldn’t want you to run into those assholes again.

(EM)[sigh] Alright, I would feel much safer, I won't lie.

(G)Alright, where are we headed?

(EM)Ironically, the Royal Guard training grounds.

(G)Really? Are you a recruit?

(EM)Actually, yeah, I am.

(G)Oh! Okay, follow me, then. I'll take you there.

(EM)Sounds great, thank you again.

(G)Don’t sweat it, let’s go.

Gordo and Emerald stroll together, their footsteps harmonious as they make their way to the Royal Guard training grounds. As they approach the entrance, the sound of clanging steel and the hum of focused energy greet them. They step inside, and their eyes are drawn to Merig, who is honing his marksmanship skills at the range. His new bow sings with a gentle whoosh as he releases arrow after arrow, each one finding its mark with precision. As Gordo and Emerald draw near, Merig's droopy ears twitch, and he turns to face them, a warm smile spreading across his face. His eyes light up with delight, and he sets his bow aside, eager to greet them. Nearby, Larry, Barth, and Cormac are engaged in a lively conversation, but their attention is drawn to Gordo and Emerald. They nod in unison, their faces breaking into welcoming smiles, as they amble over to join the gathering and greet the new recruit.

(M)Good morning, Gordo. Oh hi Emerald, glad you could make it.

(L)Good morning to you both

(B)Good morning! How's it going?

(C)It looks like we have a new face.

(EM)Good morning, Commander Flynn, sorry if I'm late. I kind of ran into some trouble, but Gordo came to my rescue.

(M)Are you okay? What happened?

(G)Two assholes chased after her just because she bumped into them. So I had to take care of them since they thought they were tough guys and threatened her with violence.

(M)Gotcha, thanks, Gordo, and I'm sorry that happened to you, Emerald.

(EM)No worries, not a scratch on me. For those who don't know me, I'm Emerald Gallagher. Nice to meet you all.

(M)Glad you're okay. Welcome to the Royal Guards training grounds. This is where you'll be for the next few weeks. You'll train with either myself or one of these guys. You've already met Gordo Berkus and me. This clown standing next to me is my captain and my older brother, Barth, and standing next to him is my second-in-command, Larry Dugan. As well as our sergeant, Cormac Giffin.

(B)Nice to meet you, Emerald.

(L)Welcome, we hope you like it here.

(C)You probably expected to see humans. I hope we didn’t disappoint you.

(EM)Actually, I'd already heard the rest of the Royal Guard higher-ups were goblins. I honestly didn't think it was true until now.

(M)Yeah, it's true, but don't be alarmed, we're harmless for the most part. Except for Barth, maybe, he thinks he's hot shit just because he's captain.[smirk]

(B)And this asshole thinks he's a badass just because the queen made him a knight. Don't listen to him, I'm the nicer brother.

(C)If we’re going to have a competition on who’s more badass, you’re looking at him, right here.[smirk]

(L)Don't listen to either of these knuckleheads. I’m the badass here. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

(G)And if you need any help at all, just let one of us know.

(EM)[giggles] You all look pretty badass if I’m being honest. So, what’s the next step?

(M)Well, since it's your first day, you can just get to know us and get familiar with the training grounds. I forgot, what weapon do you use?

(EM)Knuckles, I'm a martial artist.

(M)Oh! Just like Gordo, here. You both would be good sparring partners.

(G)Yeah, I'd be happy to. Do you have a pair of knuckles with you?

(EM)Sadly I don't. I've needed new ones for quite some time, which is why I couldn't fight those goons in the alley properly. Besides, those two were much bigger than me and I didn't want to risk getting hurt since I hadn't really mastered my skills yet.

(G)I see, it's no problem. I'll be more than happy to help you train. Follow me and I can show you to the armory and you can pick out some knuckles for yourself.

(EM)Sounds great, thanks a lot.

(M)Oh, and when you've chosen your weapon, come back here and you can show me some of your skills.

(EM)Yes, sir.

Gordo escorts Emerald to the armory, where rows of gleaming weapons line the walls, each one a testament to the Royal Guard's prowess. Emerald's eyes scan the array, her gaze lingering on the various options before settling on a pair of formidable fighting knuckles. She slips on the gloves, the leather creaking as her fists flex, and a look of determination etches itself on her face. With her new weapons in hand, Emerald and Gordo return to the training area, where Merig awaits, his bow slung over his shoulder. He leads the way to the training dummies, their wooden structure weathered from countless practice sessions. The others gather around, their faces filled with anticipation, as Emerald prepares to demonstrate her skills.

(M)These are our training dummies. You are free to use them when training your skills. If you break one of them, don't worry, it'll be replaced.

(EM)Yes, sir.

(M)You can also spar with Gordo or any one of us if we aren't busy somewhere else. There's also water to hydrate yourself when you're training, so you're more than welcome to it.

(EM)Yes sir, noted.

(M)Also, the formalities aren't necessary. You can call me by my name or respond how you like.

(EM)Sure thing, Commander.

(M)Alright, let's see some skills so we can see where you need training. Go ahead and choose a dummy to fight with.

(EM)You got it.

Emerald faces the training dummies, her eyes locking onto the one directly in front of her. She assumes a fighting stance, her feet shoulder-width apart, and her knuckles clenched. With a swift motion, she spins herself around, her body a blur of motion, and unleashes a devastating spin kick. The dummy's wooden top splinters and shatters, flying off in a shower of fragments as Emerald's kick connects with precision and power. The goblins watch in awe, their jaws agape, as they struggle to comprehend the sheer force and skill Emerald has just displayed. Gordo's eyes widen in surprise, his eyebrows shooting up in admiration. Merig, too, is impressed, his voice filled with excitement as he speaks up.

(M)Wow, that was awesome. I didn't think you'd actually break it.

(EM)I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. My kicks are pretty powerful.

(M)[chuckles] Don't be, it's still usable for the most part. These things have been slashed, stabbed, shot at, punched, kicked, set on fire, frozen, you name it. Luckily, we have the means to rebuild them if they break.

(L)And that’s my job, so don’t feel bad. I like to keep this place looking pristine.

(G)That was an amazing kick, Emerald, it seems that’s your most powerful skill.

(EM)Yeah it is, I fight better with my legs than my fists, but I still need to master both.

(G)I’d be more than happy to help you train. Here in the last six months or so, I’ve been mastering my kicks as well, but I’m more powerful with my fists, so we’d be great sparring partners if you're up for it.

(EM)Absolutely, that would be a lot of fun. Are you the only martial artist in the guards?

(G)There’s only me and maybe two others, which is why I’m really happy that you’re here so I can finally have a sparring partner.

(C)That’s great, Gordo, you finally got yourself a sparring partner.

(B)Yeah, I’m sure we’ll be seeing you two having fun.

(L)Yeah, and I’m sure you can teach each other new things.

(EM)That’s very true, my punches could use some work.

(G)I’d be happy to help you train your punches.

(EM)I really appreciate that and I can’t wait to start training to be a guard.

(M)Oh and when you get tired, there’s a resting area right over there that you’re welcome to utilize.

(EM)Sounds cozy, I think I like it here already.

(L)Also, if you ever want to just relax with us, we go to the Bright and Sherry pub just about every afternoon. You’re more than welcome to a spot at our group table.

(EM)That sounds fun, I do like to drink there a little, but only casually.

(L)Hey, we can be drinking buddies. Although, I don’t drink as much as I used to.

(EM)[giggles] I’m not too heavy of a drinker either, but I’ll do it in moderation.

(L)That’s the best way to do it.

(EM)Well, since this is just introduction day, what weapons do you all use?

(M)Well, as you know, since I recruited you, I’m a master archer. I got my shiny new bow here and I love using it.

(L)My pal here is the sharpest shooter next to Cormac over there. He uses a crossbow, and he’s one hell of a marksman as well.

(C)I’ve trained a bit more in the past six months since my injury. But before that, I was pretty good, I’ll toot my own horn. It’s good to know I’ve still got it.

(M)My brother here is a master mage and Larry is a master swordsman.

(L)Only the best in Tara with my blades of badass steel.

(B)And I’ve refined my magic a little, so you can say I’m a master mage. I lacked in some of my spells, but I’ve trained a little harder to sharpen them.

(EM)A nice variety of weapons. I also heard you have a royal alchemist who does guard work.

(L)Yep, that would be my wife, Ashley. She’s a badass as well.

(EM)Wife? Did you marry a human?

(L)That’s right, she’s my red-hot flame-haired goddess and I love her to pieces. We got married three months ago.

(EM)I see, well I’m happy for you. I’d love to meet her and I look forward to working with her. Is she the only other woman in the guards?

(M)Yeah, she is, so I’m sure you two would get along. She’s a sweet woman. Also, there are the stables not far from here and you can pick a horse for yourself and it’ll be designated to you.

(EM)Awesome, I guess I’ll get myself familiar with the place and chat with you all.

(M)Sure thing, as Larry said, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate.

(EM)I appreciate it. I’m happy to be here. I’ve heard so many good things about the guards.

(B)Oh, I’m sure you’ve heard some stories.

(EM)Yeah, there was something that happened last year and the commander led the charge to rescue someone from bandits.

(C)Oh yeah, that’s a story for another time. I’m sure when we go to relax at the pub, we’ll be more than happy to fill you in.

(L)Yeah, there’s a lot of chaos to go over from the past year.

(M)For now, let’s head over to the stables and you can be assigned a horse.

(EM)Sounds great…Oh uh, Commander? There’s a very pregnant woman who just entered the grounds. Is she supposed to be here?

(M)Oh yeah, she’s fine. That’s my wife, Kate.

(EM)Oh, you’re married as well?

(M)Yeah, she’s wonderful. Everyone in the city loves her. She loves helping people and making everyone happy.

(EM)Oh, I’ve heard about her. She’s very altruistic around Tara.

(M)Yep, that’s her. She even rescued me six months ago from her crazy and abusive former fiancé.

(EM)Oh my, I’m sure that’s difficult to recover from.

(M)Oh, he’s in the queen's prison now and he gets a good beating every week.

(EM)Well, I’d love to officially meet Kate. She seems lovely.

(M)Oh, she is.

Kate enters the training grounds, her pregnant belly leading the way as she waddles along, her hands cradling her swollen abdomen with tender care. Her face radiates a warm smile as she scans the area, her eyes locking onto the group gathered around the training dummies. She makes her way towards them, her pace gentle and deliberate. As she approaches, Merig steps forward, his face filled with concern and affection. He gently takes Kate's arm, offering his support as he guides her towards the others. Kate's smile widens as she greets each of them, her eyes shining with happiness.

(K)Good morning, my love, and everyone else.

(B)Good morning, sis.

(L)Good morning, Kate.

(C)Good morning.

(G)Good morning, I hope you’re feeling alright today.

(K)Yeah, I’m just fine, just thought I would waddle my pregnant self over here to remind my husband that I’ll be going to see Nessa for my weekly checkup.

(M)Oh, that’s right, I’m so sorry, sweetheart, I completely forgot.

(K)Don’t even worry about it, my love. I figured I would come here and remind you. I also wanted to check out that shop that Deirdre and Cormac went to and told me about.

(M)We can do that, that’ll be fun. I’m sure you’ll find a lot of things there that you’ll need.

(C)Yeah, Deirdre said that there were mushrooms there that they sell and not ones you usually find at the produce shop.

(K)Oh, that would be wonderful. It’ll save me from foraging while I’m pregnant and when the baby is born since I won’t have much time for anything.

(B)That’s true, the shop seems like it will be very convenient for you, sis.

(K)Very much so.

(M)But if you need me to forage anything for you, you know I’m more than willing to and so is Deirdre.

(K)Oh no, I wouldn’t want any of you to go out of your way. I’ll be more than happy to go to the shop instead.

(M)Alright then, sweetheart, we can both go see Nessa and then go to the marketplace.

(K)Okay, my love…Oh, hello, I’m so sorry. How rude of me. Was I interrupting something?

(EM)Not at all, I’m a new recruit. I’m Emerald. It’s very nice to meet you.

(K)Hello, Emerald, it’s so nice to meet you as well. Are you getting yourself acquainted with everyone?

(EM)Yeah, the commander was just explaining everything to me and I was getting to know these guys.

(K)Wonderful, I can assure you that these goblins are wonderful people and you’ll all get along quickly. I wouldn’t mind getting to know you as well and there’s more of us women you are more than welcome to hang out with. Ash usually sets her traps and mines in the morning while the goblins patrol the forest for bandits.

(EM)That sounds like fun. I’d love to get to know you and the other women. The goblins have already welcomed me to join you all at the pub during the afternoons. I frequent Sherry’s, so I’m familiar with it.

(K)Of course, we’d love to have you at our table. As you can see, I’m very pregnant, so the pub is where I sit and relax my feet these days. This child is heavy, and he loves moving around in my belly. Just three more weeks and he’ll be born.

(EM)I’m sorry if it’s rude of me to ask, but are you pregnant with a goblin?

(K)[smiles] I am indeed, we haven’t named him yet. It’s a boy since goblins are all biologically male. The queen wants to hold a ceremony after he’s born and we’ll be picking a name for my son.

(EM)How wonderful, congratulations and I wish nothing but the best for your child. I’ve only been briefed on some of what has happened with your former fiancé.

(K)Oh yeah, we will definitely fill you in on everything at the pub when you meet everyone else.

(EM)They told me about the royal alchemist who helps out the guards.

(K)Yes, that’s Ash, she’s my best friend. We’ve known each other since we were born and we grew up together.

(EM)Wow, that’s a long time, that friendship will definitely last a lifetime.

(K)That’s right, we have another friend, Sarah, whom we met when we were teenagers. She’s one of the healers here in the city. Another friend of mine, Deirdre, and her grandmother Miss Silvia, is the owner of the flower shop.

(EM)Wow, it seems like what the goblins said was true. You know a lot of people here.

(K)[giggles] Just about. We’re good friends with the baker, the produce shop owner, the other healer, the butcher shop owner, and the owner of the pub, Sherry.

(EM)That’s amazing. You’re all like one big family.

(L)Absolutely, everyone here loves Kate and her kind heart.

(G)She loves helping people.

(B)We’re both mages and she's helped me master my basic spells. Kate is the best sister-in-law in the world.

(M)And the best wife and soon-to-be best mother in the world.

(K)Oh stop it, you all give me way too much credit.

(B)Not nearly as much as you deserve, sis.

(C)Agreed and I think I speak for everyone else.

(L)Definitely, I’m sure you and Merig have to go, Kate. Good luck with your checkup, we hope to hear good news.

(K)I’m sure everything is fine. We’ll meet you all at the pub when we’re done.

(B)Sure thing, sis, have fun at the new shop as well. I’m sure you’re going to be there for hours buying the entire shop.[chuckles]

(K)[smiles] I wish, but I just want to see what’s there first.

(M)Alright, sweetheart, let’s head to the healer. Are you sure you want to walk? We can always take a horse and cart.

(K)No need to worry, my love, I want to walk as much as I can. I don’t want to baby my feet like I have been, especially when the baby is born, since I’ll always be up and down, taking care of him a lot. Granted, he’ll be glued to me while he breast-feeds, but when I put him down to sleep, I’m sure I’ll be up to make sure he’s okay and when he needs me.

(B)You’re going to be a wonderful mother, sis.

(EM)Yeah, I’m sure you’ll do just fine. Is this your first child?

(K)Technically, this will be my first successful child.

(EM)Oh no, did something bad happen?

(K)I lost my first to a miscarriage, but I’ll tell you about it later.

(EM)I’m so sorry for your loss, I’m sure that wasn’t easy.

(K)It never is for a mother, but I’m very happy and excited about this one. He may not be human, but I will love him just the same as if he was.

(EM)That’s beautiful, I’m happy for you, and I’m sure you’re just as amazing of a wife as you will be a mother.

(M)You got that right, she’s the love of my life and she’s done so much for me.

(EM)I love that and I heard you rescued the commander.

(K)It’s true, my ex-fiancé used a Fomor seal to possess him and took him from me and took him all the way to Dunbarton. I wasn’t going to let him get away with it, so we all went and fought our way through a dungeon and got him out.

(EM)Such bravery, but I don’t blame you for rescuing the one you love.

(K)Well, he rescued me last year, I’m sure you heard about that.

(EM)I did. I was wondering who he rescued. I had no idea it was you.

(K)That’s right, and months later, he proposed and we got married in April. I found out I was pregnant a few weeks after our honeymoon.

(EM)That’s amazing, so much happening in a year.

(K)Oh, it’s been one big adventure and I think I’m ready to settle down and spend time with my family that Merig and I have now created together.

(EM)I'm sure you're both excited.

(M)I'm very excited, but we'll talk more about it later when we meet you all at the pub.

(EM)Oh, of course, I don't want to keep you any longer. It was wonderful meeting you, Kate, and we'll see you later.

(K)It was lovely meeting you as well, Emerald. We'll see you all later.

(B)See you later, sis, be careful and rest if you need to.

(K)I will, the baby tells me when I've walked enough, that's for sure.

(M)We'll see you guys later.

Kate and Merig bid each other farewell, their faces filled with warmth and affection, before making their way to the entrance of the training grounds. As they exit, they stroll hand in hand towards the healer's quarters, their pace relaxed and gentle. Inside, Sarah and Nessa are busy preparing for Kate's arrival, their movements efficient and practiced. They ready one of the beds, smoothing out the linens and plumping the pillows, while also gathering various items needed for the upcoming checkup. Nessa takes up a broom, sweeping the floor with gentle strokes, her movements almost soothing. Sarah, meanwhile, hums to herself, a soft smile playing on her lips as she readies the necessary tools and potions. Nessa glances over at Sarah, noticing her serene expression, and a curious look crosses her face, before speaking up in a soft, inquiring tone.

(N)So, I bet you're enjoying sharing a home with Barth so far.

(S)[smiles] Oh, of course, it's different, but I'm very comfortable for the most part. Barth has been wonderful and very accommodating to my needs around the house. Of course, I've done the same for him, but he treats me like an honored guest when I'm living with him now, and not in a bad way, either. He's just really good to me and it's my first time being with someone and living with them. I guess I'm just not used to it all yet.

(N)That's how it's supposed to be. You're supposed to make each other feel comfortable and create that comfortable environment in the home. And knowing how much Barth loves you, I'm sure he doesn't mind doing certain things for you.

(S)Yeah, but I feel like I don't give much in return at all. But I do really appreciate him for what he does for me. I just wonder if he thinks I don't appreciate him.

(N)Oh honey, I'm sure he does. You're both still adjusting to this since you're both new to it. It may seem like he's treating you like an honored guest, but he's just treating you the same as he does when you're not home. Am I right?

(S)Now that you put it that way, yeah, he doesn’t treat me any differently when we're not home, and even before I moved in. He's still so sweet to me and does sweet things for me.

(N)And are you the same way?

(S)Of course, I wouldn't treat him any differently.

(N)Then don't think too much about it and just go with it. You don't need to change anything and I'm sure he appreciates what you do just as you appreciate him. He does things for you because he wants to, not because he feels like he has to. You feel you have to do things for him, but you should do it because you want to.

(S)He says I'm not obligated to do anything more since we're sharing a home and we have equal responsibilities. He said he didn't want to put all the burdens on me at home.

(N)Then there you go. Your relationship is equal in the home and you're comfortable, right?

(S)Oh absolutely, he makes me feel very comfortable and I appreciate it. But for some reason, I don't think that will last long.

(N)What do you mean?

(S)Well, since I've only ever lived on my own, I don't know what it's like to live with me. I'm sure I'm a difficult person to live with, but Barth hasn't said as much directly to me. If he hasn't gotten tired of me already, I'm sure he will.

(N)Sarah, that's not true at all. You told me that Barth was happy when you talked about packing your things while you two were planning the day for you to move in. I'm sure he was bursting with excitement.

(S)Yeah but, you never truly know someone until you've lived with them. His entire perspective could have changed in just the few days we've been living together.

(N)Has his behavior towards you changed?

(S)Now that I think about it, no, he's treated me the same, and he's still wonderful.

(N)Then I'm sure if he was getting tired of you, he would tell you or he would behave differently. Have you gotten tired of him?

(S)No, of course not. I love being around him. He's very pleasant to live with, and like I said, he's very accommodating.

(N)So then there's your answer, nothing to worry about.

(S)I guess you're right, I don't know what I'm worried about. Maybe it's all the pain from being rejected all the time that's making me worry. I'm very much in love with Barth, and I guess I'm just afraid our relationship won't last long.

(N)Oh honey, that goblin thinks you hung the moon and stars and he loves you very much. I know this is your first relationship and I understand your fears considering your past. It's okay to have those fears. Just don't let it cloud your judgment of the person you're now with. You could break Barth's heart, and I'm sure that's not something you want to do.

(S)Of course not, I would never dream of doing that to him. Maybe I should just talk to him about my worries and not bottle it up.

(N)Communication is key in a relationship. Just be honest, and I'm sure Barth will understand and be more than willing to listen and alleviate your fears.

(S)You’re right, he's a very patient and understanding person and that's one thing that I love about him so much. He's very soft-spoken with me and easy to talk to. He talks so calmly and sweetly to me and he's just made me feel safe and comfortable sharing a home with him.

(N)That’s wonderful, Sarah, and that's how it should be. He loves you and while I can understand how you feel and why, you're afraid that he'll get tired of you. I don't think that's the case at all. It's best to let him know your fears and how you're feeling about living with him so far. I think he would appreciate the feedback and I’m sure he’ll give you his feedback as well.

(S)I just don't want to hurt his feelings, that's the last thing I want to do.

(N)I know, sweetheart, and I know you won't do that. Just try not to worry for now. Let's get things ready for Kate. She should be here soon.

(S)Right, back to work.

The women continue their preparations for Kate's weekly check-up to ensure she and her baby are in good health, their attention to detail a reflection of their commitment to her and her baby's well-being. As they finish things up, the door opens, and Kate and Merig enter, their faces filled with comfort and contentment. Merig closes the door behind them, his hand gently guiding Kate further into the room. Nessa's face lights up with a warm smile as she approaches the couple, her eyes shining with kindness. With a gentle touch, Nessa takes Kate's arm, leading her to the prepared bed, where a soft blanket and plush pillows await. She helps Kate settle in, ensuring she's comfortable and relaxed.

(N)Good morning, Mama. How are you feeling today?

(K)I’m actually feeling great. Merig and I walked here. I insisted because I wanted to strengthen my legs for many reasons.

(N)Understandable, but try not to overdo it, okay?

(K)Of course not.

(N)Let’s sit you down here…There we go, are you comfy?

(K)Yes, thank you.

(N)How is the baby doing?

(K)He’s still moving around a lot, but it’s okay, he seems to calm down when I walk.

(N)That’s good, that means he wants you to be active with him.

(K)[giggles] I guess, he’s telling me to get off my ass and move around.

(S)It sounds like he’ll be just as active when he’s born.

(K)Or maybe he’ll sleep a lot since he will have worn himself out in here.

(N)[giggles] It’s possible, now, have you experienced any pain?

(K)Not really, just discomfort when he moves around.

(N)That’s good. It’s close to your due date, so it’s normal to feel uncomfortable. Have you felt nauseous as of late, or even experienced vomiting since our last visit?

(K)Thankfully no, but there’s some heartburn involved, but it isn’t too bad.

(N)That’s normal too. Have your feet been swelling?

(K)A little, they’ve also been hurting a bit more, but like I said, I want to keep myself moving as much as possible.

(N)Understandable, but you should take breaks and not overdo it like I mentioned.

(K)Of course, Merig makes sure I sit down when I need to. He’s a big help at reminding me when I’ve walked too much.

(N)Good, are you having any trouble breathing?

(K)Thankfully no, I just feel winded after walking so much.

(N)Are your hormones in check? Any moodiness?

(K)A little, but it’s not as bad as you think.

(N)How’s the heartbeat? I know you’ve told me you and Merig can feel and hear the heartbeat.

(K)It’s normal, nothing out of the ordinary.

(M)I can attest to that. There have been no irregularities, thankfully.

(N)You said he’s very active. When does he get active the most?

(K)When people are talking around me. He’s most active when someone raises their voice.

(M)Yeah, there was an incident a few days ago that we should probably mention.

(N)Oh? What happened?

(M)A man at the pub purposely bumped into Kate.

(S)Oh yeah, Barth told me about it when he brought me lunch that day. What a horrible man.

(M)Yeah, we were at the pub and Kate was letting a couple of people at the table feel her belly so they could feel the baby kick. Well, after she let Cormac feel her belly, he got up to help her back to her seat, and I was on the other end of the table. A patron claimed he accidentally bumped into her and she nearly fell forward but was immediately stopped by Cormac. Thanks to his fast reflexes, Kate avoided the fall, and I saw red. I confronted the man who didn’t care about Kate’s pregnant state and I…started shouting at him. I made a mistake out of anger and it caused the baby to move around excessively, making Kate uncomfortable and causing her some pain. I decided to take the man outside like Kate suggested and when I took him to Sherry for her to decide what to do with him. He admitted it wasn’t an accident and that he’s one of the humans that has a distaste for Fomors and thought that Kate carrying a Fomor child is a disgrace. So I took him outside and taught him a thing or two. I realized my shouting caused Kate pain, and I apologized to her.

(K)It’s all true, he even rubbed my feet that night and made everything better like he always does.

(N)[smiles] I love to hear that, just be more mindful next time, okay?

(M)Of course, I wouldn’t want it to happen again and I still feel terrible.

(N)Don’t beat yourself up over it, you’re just protecting your pregnant wife, so I do understand that part.

(K)So do I and I’m not upset with him in the least for defending me from that man.

(N)Have you had any pain since the incident?

(K)No, the baby just moved around a lot after it happened. It’s as if he was panicking because I did panic as well, thinking I’d fall, so I’m sure the baby felt that and caused him to panic too.

(N)That makes sense. Just take it easy these next couple of weeks as much as you can.

(K)I’ll do that, but I’m still okay to walk, right?

(N)In moderation, but know your limits, dear.

(K)Of course, my feet tell me when I’ve had enough.

(N)Are you eating well?

(K)Yep, I'm still cooking at home most of the time. I’ve been craving protein lately, so I’ll just eat some tree nuts as a light snack and then sear some fish and even some seasoned chicken for lunch and dinner. I cook it with mushrooms and onions like always.

(N)Alright, just remember to hydrate as much as possible if you’re walking a lot.

(K)I always have water in my canteen with me, as you can see.

(N)Good, and have you been sleeping a lot?

(K)Actually yes, more so recently. I’ve just been so tired and I find myself sleeping until noon if Merig doesn’t wake me up in the morning.

(M)Sorry, I let her sleep when I knew she was tired from the previous day. I get ready for the daily things and just let her have her quiet sleep. She’ll show up at the pub all energized and spend time with me and everyone else.

(N)That’s perfectly fine, the rest is good for you and the baby.

(K)It is, but when I wake up, I have to immediately relieve myself. The baby has also been weighing on my bladder lately. As slow as I walk, I’m afraid I won’t make it to the bathroom sometimes. I don’t want to walk too fast and make it uncomfortable for me or the baby.

(N)I completely understand, hon, just have someone help you to the restroom when it’s an emergency.

(M)She insists on walking by herself and doesn’t like asking for help, you know her.

(N)[sigh] Hon, I understand you want to be independent while you're carrying this child. But it’s okay to ask for assistance. You have a whole group of people willing to help you, especially your husband. And I’m sure Ash would help as well if you have to go to the bathroom.

(K)She has offered to help me before, but I tell her not to worry.

(N)I know you’re a kind person Kate and you always think of others, but at a time like this where you can’t do a lot on your own, it’s okay to need help and to think of yourself. I don’t want you coming back here and I hear that you have fallen because you didn’t let someone help you. I would be heartbroken and I know you would be, too. Don’t just think about yourself, but also think about your baby growing inside of here. If something happens and you fall, it will hurt not only you but the baby, too.

(K)[sigh] You’re absolutely right. I didn’t think about that and I feel selfish, and I feel like a terrible mother.

(N)No, you’re not a terrible mother, honey, you think about your child’s safety inside your belly all the time, that’s why you do certain things. But remember, you’re carrying something very precious to you and Merig. And while it’s okay to not burden people, this child isn’t a burden to you and it shouldn’t be to anyone else, certainly not to Merig.

(M)Of course not. If Cormac wasn’t there to catch you from falling, who knows what would’ve happened, and to be honest, I don’t even want to begin to fathom it, sweetheart. As the father and your husband, I’d be devastated and I know you would, too.

(K)You’re both right. I should be mindful as well and I’m sorry, my love.

(M)Don’t be. I’m not upset with you at all. That’s why I’ve been so protective of you, and now you understand why. I feel that if I’m not with you everywhere, something will happen and I won’t be there to stop it. And since I wasn’t there to stop you from falling, someone else was because they’re more than happy to do so. After all, they too, know how precious and important you and this baby are to me. I praised Cormac that day because he did what I would’ve done and what anyone else would’ve done in that situation. But it’s thanks to him that you didn’t fall and you’re here getting a checkup with little to no problems other than discomfort. But imagine if you did fall, it would be a completely different story. You need help sometimes and it’s okay to admit it and allow someone to help you, honey. As Nessa said, it’s not only for your safety but for our child’s safety. You’re not a terrible mother, you just need to learn that it’s okay to be dependent, especially in instances like this. You’re pregnant, sweetheart, and you can’t help it and can’t do certain things, like foraging. You admitted that’s something you can’t do right now and you’re choosing to go to the new shop that opened up here. It’s the convenience of it, so you’re not going out into the forest and risking hurting yourself because you know it’ll hurt you and the baby.

(S)He’s right, it’s okay to be selfish sometimes. And you know us. We love and care for you enough to help you if you need it, especially Merig, just like Nessa said.

(K)I understand, from now on, I’ll ask for help. I’m so sorry, my love. I made a mistake and I’m sorry.

(M)It’s okay, sweetheart, you did nothing wrong. We’re both learning to be more mindful. It’s perfectly fine. I love you so much and you’re going to be an amazing mother.

(K)And you’ll be a wonderful father.

(N)I also heard Merig visited Sean again, and you went with him, Kate.

(K)Yeah, I did. The baby was pretty active when I was there. It’s as if he knew what was going on outside of my belly. He heard his dad talking, and Cormac, as well as Sean. Luckily, I was able to sit and watch my abuser get his dose of his own medicine. He did try to attack me, but Merig had him in metal restraints and grabbed him by the throat. He couldn’t touch me and I wasn’t afraid. I trusted that Merig wouldn’t let him. I know this may sound horrible, but it brought me joy to see the man who abused me get beaten in return.

(N)I don’t blame you. After what he did to you and Merig, I don’t feel any sympathy for him.

(S)I’m right there with you, Nessa. I’m sure it felt good to get justice.

(K)It did and now I’m reaping the benefits, it seems.

(M)You’re not the only one, sweetheart, remember that.

(K)[smiles] Of course, my love, we’re both reaping the benefits.

(N)[smiles] Always so positive. I love that about you, Kate. Well, it seems everything is in check and since you both are able to hear the baby’s heartbeat, Merig, why don’t you come sit with Kate and have a listen?

(M)Sure thing.

(K)I just hope he’s okay in here. He's been moving around since we’ve been talking.

(M)Alright, sweetheart, just relax, okay?

(K)Okay, my love.

Merig steps forward, his movements filled with tender care, and approaches the side of the bed where Kate sits, her eyes fixed on him with affection. He gently sits down beside her, his hands reaching out to cradle her belly. The room falls silent, the only sound the soft rustle of fabric as Merig's hands move across Kate's pregnant belly, his fingers tracing gentle patterns. Then, in a moment of intimate connection, Merig leans forward, his droopy ear pressed against Kate's belly, his eyes closed to listen for the baby's heartbeat. The room holds its collective breath as he listens, his face a picture of serene concentration. A moment passes, and a slow, radiant smile spreads across Merig's face, his eyes still closed in joy. He opens his eyes, shining with happiness, his smile widening as he sits back up. His face glows with delight, and he shares the good news with the others.

(M)There’s no need to worry. His heartbeat is still the same, and he’s happy and healthy as always. Even after all the chaos, he’ll be just fine.

(K)[sigh] That’s a relief, I was worried.

(N)Me too, especially when you mentioned that man bumping into her.

(S)Yeah, I’m sure it was stressful hearing all the shouting.

(M)Yeah, I’m sure it was and I’m sorry, sweetheart. I can’t apologize enough.

(K)Merig honey, stop apologizing, I already forgave you. I’m not mad at you at all, my love.

(M)That’s a relief. I love you, my moon.

(K)I love you too, my earth.

(N)Well, I think everything is in order and the baby is nice and healthy. Now, since it’s only a few weeks until your due date, please let me know if anything changes, okay?

(K)Of course, thank you so much, Nessa, and Sarah.

(S)Of course, we’re so happy you and the baby are doing great. We can’t wait to meet him.

(K)We can’t either, but for now, Merig and I are going to the marketplace. Deirdre told me about this agriculture shop that opened up. It'll be very convenient for me, Deirdre said they even have mushrooms and other produce.

(S)I remember her mentioning it at the pub. I’d like to visit myself one day. Maybe when Barth and I have that day off together.

(K)Oh, I forgot to mention, Cormac proposed to Deirdre.

(N)[gasp] Really? Oh my goodness, that's wonderful! I was hoping for that to happen, and I was wondering when Cormac was actually going to do it. I'm sure they're both happy, especially Deirdre.

(K)Oh, she's over the moon, we're happy for her.

(M)Also, I wanted to mention. We have a recruit in the guards.

(N)Oh fun, you tell him if he ever gets injured, you'll send him my way.

(M)She.

(N)She? Is Ash no longer the only woman in the Royal Guards?

(M)Well, she's not the only royal alchemist that's a woman. She's just the only woman that helps us with bandits. But yes, technically she's the only woman in the Royal Guards, but now there are two. Her name is Emerald. She's sweet. She accidentally bumped into two men and they threatened violence, so she ran and eventually found Gordo while he was on his way to the training grounds. Emerald didn't have weapons on her, so Gordo took care of the men.

(N)Thank goodness, I'm glad she's okay.

(M)Yeah, she's just getting to know everyone today and then she'll start her training tomorrow. She’s a martial artist just like Gordo, so he’ll have someone to spar with.

(N)Sounds like fun, and I can’t wait to meet her…well formally, I’m not wishing harm on her where she has to come here and see me, but you know what I meant.

(M)[chuckles] I know what you mean, don’t worry. But it was a pleasant visit, and we’re both happy everything is okay.

(N)I’m happy as well, now you two go and have fun at the market and we’ll see you next week. Like I said if anything happens between now and your due date, come and see me.

(K)We will. Thank you, Nessa. It was good seeing you.

(N)Always a pleasure.

(S)I’ll see you and Merig later, Kate.

(M)See you later, Sarah. I’m happy that you and Barth are getting comfy living together, by the way.

(S)[smiles] Thanks, I’m pretty happy as well, he’s been wonderful so far.

(M)I’m glad to hear that and you keep him in line for me.

(S)[giggles] I’ll do that. See you both later.

(K)Bye, you two.

As the goodbyes come to a close, Merig stands up from the bed and offers his hands to Kate, helping her up with gentle care. He wraps his arm around her, providing support as they make their way to the door. Together, they exit the building and stroll towards the city marketplace, bound for the new shop Deirdre had mentioned. At Love Me Always, the charming flower shop run by Silvia McCullen and her granddaughter Deirdre, the atmosphere is filled with the sweet scent of blooms and the soft murmur of activity. Silvia, her eyes enhanced by spectacles perched on the end of her nose, works with precision, her hands moving meticulously as she crafts beautiful arrangements. Deirdre flits about, her face aglow with a soft smile, as she selects flowers to match each customer's request, bringing them to Silvia with quiet efficiency. Silvia pauses, her hands hovering over her work, as she catches sight of Deirdre's faraway expression. A soft smile plays on her lips, and a look of curiosity sparks in her eyes, prompting her to speak up, her voice gentle and peaceful.

(SL)You look like you have something on your mind, dear, you're smiling a lot.

(DD)Sorry, Grandma, I'm just thinking about some things.

(SL)Oh? What’s on your mind? How are you and Cormac doing?

(DD)We’re doing great, actually. I wanted to talk to you about some things.

(SL)I’m all ears.

(DD)Well, Cormac and I want to get married. He asked me the other day if I wanted to marry him, but we don’t have rings yet.

(SL)[gasp] Oh how wonderful, congratulations! I knew I would one day see you getting married. Cormac is such a lovely goblin, and he has proven himself worthy of my granddaughter. I don’t care if he’s a Fomor.

(DD)[smiles] He really has proven himself and I love him. I don’t care if he’s a Fomor either, he’s so good to me and it’s been great living with him.

(SL)That’s so good to hear, sweetheart.

(DD)I was going to talk to you about possibly making some rings for us.

(SL)Oh? Do you want me to make your wedding rings? You don’t want to have custom rings made by a jeweler?

(DD)No, Cormac and I decided we wanted our rings to mean something. We confessed our love in the forest surrounded by flowers and I think it would be perfect to have rings made from flowers and resin, just like you did with the periwinkle for Barth to give to Sarah.

(SL)Oh yes, I remember he and Sarah are now together. Am I right?

(DD)Yes, and they are very much happy together as well. They actually just recently started living together.

(SL)Oh, how lovely. It seems they’re growing closer to each other, just like you and Cormac.

(DD)[smiles] You’re absolutely right. So are you able to make the rings for us?

(SL)Yes, of course, dear, I would love nothing more than to make your rings with my own hands so that you know they were made with love.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

(DD)I would cherish them forever. I was thinking maybe you can make something from sunflowers. That's our favorite flower, since we confessed our love while harvesting them, you remember?

(SL)Yes, I do. I was so happy and grateful that you brought me all those sunflowers, and now I can grow them in my garden out in the back. I thought it was so sweet and beautiful that you two confessed your love. I'm sure it was a happy moment for you both.

(DD)It was. He didn't think he was worthy of me or my love, but I showed him that he was. But it wasn't just us confessing our love or anything before then that made me fall in love with him as I did. What made me truly fall in love with him was when he killed my attacker when he came back to finish the job and threatened to rape me. I was so thankful that Cormac showed up in the nick of time before that happened. That's when I knew that he was the one, Gram. He got angry at the bandit and showed no mercy, and the bandit ran while Cormac shot a bolt and it hit him in the back of the head and killed him.

(SL)[giggles] I remember you telling me all about it, and I think Cormac was so brave in doing that. But I’m glad you and other women can breathe easily from that monster. I still blame myself for the first time you got hurt by him and the other bandits.

(DD)Gram, I told you it’s not your fault. I don’t blame you.

(SL)But I asked you to forage for me and you got hurt.

(DD)That could’ve happened any time I was out there in the forest before then. Neither of us knew it was going to happen. Bad things happen when you least expect it, just as well as good things. Cormac said something that sticks with me to this day. We can’t prevent anything from happening if we don’t know it’s going to happen, whether good or bad. It happened and we can’t change that, nor could we have known or stopped it. I didn’t know that bandits were going to attack me, so how could I have prevented it? I foraged all the time, and that was the only time I had ever gotten attacked, so how could anyone have known?

(SL)But had I not sent you out there, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt.

(DD)I was happy to do it for you, Gram. It’s something I loved doing. After it happened, I was too scared to go back out there and it was that way for half a decade. Then I met Cormac, and he took me out there for the first time in those five years, and I was safe with him. No one ever did that for me, not even David, the man who claimed he loved me. He left me because of what happened to me and said that I was spoiled since the bandit molested my breasts and that my body wasn’t perfect anymore because of my wound. He didn’t even care that I got hurt. But Cormac cared a lot, and he still saw my beauty for what it is and he didn’t judge me and he showed me love and that I could trust him. He made me feel safe again in the world and he protects me and I love him so much. I want to marry him and be with him forever.

(SL)I know and I’m so happy for you, but I still feel terrible.

(DD)You did nothing wrong Gram, you were the only one that was there for me before Cormac came along, and even Kate and the other women. I love them and they’re like family to me, but before I met them, and in my time of need, you were there even if you were busy.

(SL)Because you’re my granddaughter and I love you, Deirdre. I took you in when your parents sent you here as a teenager. They didn’t think you were worthy of living in their home for their selfish reasons and favored your sister over you. I couldn’t let them treat you that way any longer, so I told them to bring you here to live with your grandfather and me before he passed away. To this day, I’ve disowned your father and so did your grandfather for treating you the way your parents did.

(DD)I know, Gram, and I’m so grateful for you and Grandpa. It devastated me when he died. That’s why I kept helping you here in the shop and took care of you, even though we didn’t live together. You’re my grandmother and the only one besides Grandpa who cared for me and loved me, unlike my parents. When I was still at home, they ignored me and gave Penelope everything because she lived up to their standards to run their business back home.

(SL)I’m grateful to you as well for taking care of me when your grandfather died. I know they treated you that way, and I hated it. They didn’t deserve such a wonderful daughter, and they took you for granted. You helped me so much in the shop, which is why I’ve willed it to you to take care of and run when I pass away.

(DD)Really? Why me?

(SL)Because you and I are alike, we love flowers and you have just as much of a green thumb as I do, and I know you’ll keep this shop going. You’re the only one I trust with it and if your parents try taking it from you, the queen has ensured that ownership of this shop will be passed on to you when I breathe my last breath.

(DD)Oh, Gram, I don’t know what I would do without you. You’re more of a mother to me than a grandmother and more of a mother than my mother. They also hate Fomors, so I know they won’t approve of Cormac.

(SL)Well, you tell them I approved of Cormac, and if they have anything to say about it, they can kiss my ass in the spirit world. He can even run the shop with you if he wants to.

(DD)[giggles] I love you, Gram, and I’ll have to talk to him about that. I just really hope you can stay here with me for a little longer before you go.

(SL)Oh Deirdre, my health is declining, I’ll be honest. I’m not even sure how much time I have left. My eyesight is getting worse, my memory isn’t as good as it used to be. But I can promise you, I will make the rings for you and Cormac and they will be done in a day or so.

(DD)Perfect, but I want you to stay on this earth longer so you can meet your great-grandchild.

(SL)Great-grandchild?...

(DD)That’s right.

(SL)Oh my goodness, you’re pregnant?

(DD)I am and I’m going to tell Cormac this afternoon.

(SL)[gasp] Oh, this is exciting. How far along are you?

(DD)Nessa said I’m about nine weeks along and we’re very healthy so far. It will be a goblin child and it will be a male, but I’m not sure about the name yet. I was thinking about naming him after Grandpa in his honor.

(SL)Oh, Deirdre, that would be wonderful and you and Cormac will be getting married, so it’s perfect timing.

(DD)If my belly gets big before the wedding, that’s perfectly fine. I’m going to marry a goblin and bear his offspring.

(SL)That’s perfectly fine, dear, I would love that great-grandchild regardless and your parents don't deserve to be in his life.

(DD)I agree, and I’ll tell them as much since I know they won’t approve of that either.

(SL)You’ll be an amazing mother, Deirdre. Love that child like your parents should’ve done for you.

(DD)Trust me, I will, Cormac will be the best father and husband. I’ll be going to the pub with everyone later and tell them and Cormac.

(SL)Oh, I’m sure he’ll be ecstatic and this makes me feel so much better. I honestly thought you hated me.

(DD)Why would I hate you, Gram?

(SL)Just the guilt I still have from when you got attacked.

(DD)No Gram, I could never hate you, not for any reason. I love you with all my heart, and so does Cormac. He adores you. He’ll be so happy to be a part of the family and he’ll be happy to be a father. He already said he wants to start a family someday, so this will be perfect. I have a perfect life here with the love of my life and my wonderful grandmother, along with all of my friends that I call family.

(SL)Oh, Deirdre, I love you too, sweetheart. My life here is perfect as well. Kate is your friend, and she loves you as well, and so does Cormac. He’s over the moon with you two together. I have to let go of my guilt for the past since I know you don’t hate me.

(DD)Of course not, you’ve done more for me than my parents ever did, and you deserve nothing but my respect and love as your granddaughter.

(SL)Oh, that’s so wonderful to hear. I may just tear up a little.

(DD)[giggles] As long as they’re happy tears, I’ll cry with you.

(SL)[giggles] I love you, my sweet girl. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.

(DD)I should be thanking you, Gram. You raised me to be a good person and you’ve done so much for me, more than any granddaughter could ask for. I love you, Gram.

(SL)I love you, too, my sweet Deirdre. Now, let’s get this arrangement finished so you can go tell Cormac the good news.

(DD)[smiles] You’re absolutely right, no more slacking.

Silvia and Deirdre share a gentle giggle, their eyes sparkling with amusement, before refocusing on their work. They move in tandem, their hands dancing as they craft exquisite flower arrangements, their creativity, and love for their work evident in every petal and stem. Meanwhile, at the bustling city marketplace, Kate and Merig arrive at the new agriculture shop, its entrance adorned with vibrant greenery and colorful blooms. Kate's face lights up with wonder as she takes in the array of innovative tools and fresh produce on display. Merig stands by her side, his arm wrapped protectively around her, as she cradles her belly and walks, her eyes shining with excitement. As they explore the shop, Kate's smile grows, her joy infectious.

(K)Oh honey, look at this place. I’m in love already. So many things here that I know I need at home. Deirdre was right. There are mushrooms here that I can’t even find in the forest that would be perfect for my cooking.

(M)I’m glad you like it, sweetheart, and if there’s anything you want to get while we’re here, I’ll carry it home.

(K)[sigh] Alright, my love, I really appreciate it, and you.

(M)[smiles] I appreciate you as well, I love you, my moon.

(K)[smiles] I love you too, my earth. I was really happy with today’s visit with Nessa.

(M)Me too, I’m glad the baby is healthy.

(K)So am I. I still feel terrible and I think I owe you an apology as well.

(M)For what, sweetheart?

(K)You and Nessa were both right. I should've thought about the well-being of my child instead of worrying about burdening others.

(M)Honey, we all make mistakes and to be honest, what you did wasn't a mistake. It's just who you are as a person. You care about others around you and forget about yourself. Only this time, you have to worry about yourself for the sake of our child growing inside your belly.

(K)I’m realizing that and I’m so sorry, my love, this baby is a part of me right now and I can't think of others before myself this time, because it’s not just about me.

(M)That's right, but I did the same thing not too long ago, where I confronted someone for hurting you and not realizing it would cause you discomfort and pain. I put my need to protect you over your need to feel comfortable while you're carrying our child. So don’t worry, you’re not the only one who made a mistake. We both just acted the way we are naturally, and it affected the ones we care about.

(K)I know and that changes today for the sake of my baby. We’re both learning to be more mindful of each other and the ones we care about. From now on I’ll ask for help when I need it, especially if I’m struggling.

(M)And I’ll continue to be protective, just less aggressive, and I’ll deal with someone away from you so the baby doesn’t move around and cause you pain. Deal?

(K)Deal, you're so good to me and I love you so much. I just hope you aren't upset with me.

(M)Of course not, I have no reason to be. We both learned a lesson and we’re working to do better. You’re not upset with me, are you?

(K)Of course not, my love. I forgave you the minute that situation happened.

(M)And I forgive you, but to be honest, there's nothing to forgive because there’s nothing to apologize for.

(K)Then I could say the same thing about you.

(M)[chuckles] That’s fair, then let’s put it behind us and move on since we’ve learned from it.

(K)I think that’s a great idea, my love. What do you think about Deirdre and Cormac getting married?

(M)I think it’s great, they’re really happy together, so I expected it to happen sooner or later.

(K)Me too, I was waiting for it. It’s been six months since they first got together. I’m so happy for them and I’d love to be a part of their wedding. I’m sure Silvia will be delighted to make their wedding rings.

(M)I’m sure, knowing Silvia, they’ll be beautiful. I’m glad to see Cormac happy. It’s like he’s a completely different person, even before Larry and I left the bandit camp.

(K)Well, considering the story he told us, maybe he was this way before he was a bandit. He did say he was with another woman back home and I’m sure he was in love and happy, then. So maybe this is the true Cormac, the one you all never met before he was betrayed.

(M)That’s very true, he never talked about his past, at least not to us. The only other ones who probably know about it are Larry and Gordo since they were there with Cormac before Barth and I joined. Then again, even they probably don’t know, or they did and never told us.

(K)If they never mentioned it, odds are they didn’t know about it.

(M)That’s true, too, but we’ve seen a new side of Cormac in the past six months, and he’s really bettered himself and fell in love again.

(K)He’s very dedicated to Deirdre, and that woman who left him when he was exiled from Taill is trying to weasel her way into Cormac’s life again, and she needs to stay away from him.

(M)Agreed. It feels like we’re dealing with Rachel again. If I was aggressive with her, imagine how aggressive Cormac would be with that other woman, especially after what she did to him and just knowing how he is. He’ll tell her to screw off because he loves Deirdre that much and is dedicated to her like you said.

(K)Yeah, but I suspect this Victoria woman will try regardless of anything Cormac says. I wouldn’t blame him if he got aggressive with her. He and Deirdre belong together and even I, as a friend, wouldn’t want anything coming in between them.

(M)I wouldn’t either, those two are perfect for each other. They're meant to be together, and as a friend to him, I wouldn't want to see someone try to destroy that for him. Deirdre is way too good to him and he’s good to her too. That woman will only bring trouble if she just wants to be friends with him, knowing she still loves him.

(K)I wouldn’t want to be friends with someone knowing they’re in love with me if I’m already with someone. If I wasn’t with someone, then it would be different.

(M)Exactly, and I wouldn’t do the same. That’s why I was so aggressive with Rachel. That’s also why I took you home for a couple of days after it happened, to show you that I wanted nothing to do with that woman, and to remind you that you’re the only woman for me.

(K)[smiles] I understand, my love, I wouldn’t want any woman trying to take you away from me, and I wouldn’t let anyone else take me away from my goblin. Especially since we’re starting a family together.

(M)That’s right, you’re my wife and the mother of my child.

(K)You’re my husband and the father of my child.

(M)Do you need to sit down at all?

(K)I might, here soon, maybe we can go to the pub and relax for lunch after we’re done here.

(M)Sounds good to me, unless there are things you want here, then we’d take it home first and then go to the pub.

(K)You're right, we can continue to enjoy the day here. I’m so excited to take a look at everything else in this shop.

(M)I bet you are. Let’s look around some more.

(K)Alright, we’ll finish looking around and see if there’s anything we need. I know for a fact I’m getting this assortment of mushrooms.

(M)[chuckles] I had a feeling you would, sweetheart. Let’s go, then, I’ll help you walk around.

(K)[smiles] You don’t have to tell me twice.

Kate and Merig meander through the shop, their pace leisurely, as they carefully select the items that catch their eye. Merig's arm remains wrapped around Kate, supporting her as she navigates the aisles, her belly leading the way as they explore the shop's offerings. Meanwhile, amidst the vibrant stalls of the marketplace, the goblin and woman couple stroll hand in hand, their faces aglow with joy. The woman clings to the goblin's arm, her smile radiant, as she gazes up at him with adoration. The goblin, too, wears a happy grin, his eyes shining with affection, as he guides her through the crowds.

(O)Oh Merig, look at all the wonderful shops here. It’s so busy and it smells so good.

(Msr)I agree, Orla, it’s wonderful to see, and it’s so cozy. Everyone looks so cheerful and I’m sure the food is amazing.

(O)I want to see if there’s a shop here so I can find some things to cook with. You know me, I love my herbs and seasonings.

(Msr)Of course, my love, I’m sure we’ll find a place.

(O)I even want to start a small crop here. I know there are places outside the city I can use. The soil here is rich and great for growing food, from what I hear.

(Msr)We’ll definitely look into preparing one for you. I’d like that as well.

(O)I miss our little farm, so it will be perfect.

(Msr)I miss it too, Orla, we'll start a new one here.

(O)I'm really starting to love it here. How about you, my love?

(Msr)I am as well. It's peaceful with humans and Fomors living together. We haven't even gotten any strange looks, that's surprising.

(O)Well, when humans and Fomors are coexisting, then it's not completely out of the ordinary. I'm not the only human to have married and procreated with a Fomor.

(Msr)That's true, maybe give it a few months here, I can sense happiness. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. It's radiating from all these people.

(O)That pub we stopped at so I could go to the restroom the other day had Fomors there. I also saw this pregnant woman who was also going into the bathroom. It made me think about when I was pregnant and I smiled and was so happy. I miss my babies, Merig. They're grown now and I'm sure they're happy here.

(Msr)I'm sure they are, Orla, and I miss them as well and I'm sure they'll be happy to see us. I know I'll be happy to see them if we find them.

(O)Oh me too, sweetheart, I had a dream that we saw them and we reunited. Let's just hope that comes true.

(Msr)I hope so too, my love, but for now, let’s enjoy ourselves out here. Are you hungry?

(O)A little, it’s almost lunchtime, but I do want to look around some more while we’re out here. Let’s go find an agriculture shop. I know there has to be one here.

(Msr)We can do that. I’d like to find myself a bow. It’s been a while since I last got a new one.

(O)And I can visit the magic shop here. This really is the perfect place for us, Merig. It almost reminds me of home back in Dunbarton, only bigger.

(Msr)Agreed, and no one is throwing insults at us. I think we can call this our home, Orla, perfect to settle down for us, especially since we’re starting to get old.

(O)[giggles] We’re not that old, are we? I feel like a spring chicken.

(Msr)[chuckles] As do I, sweetheart, maybe we can get lunch at the pub. I hear they have great food there.

(O)That would be wonderful, my love. Let’s go find an agriculture shop first if that’s okay.

(Msr)Of course, my darling, let’s keep going.

The goblin and woman couple continue their search for the elusive shop, their hearts filled with excitement and curiosity. As they wander, they make plans to stop by the cozy Bright and Sherry pub for a delightful lunch, savoring the promise of warm food and warm company. Back at the agriculture shop, Merig and Kate are immersed in their shopping experience, their basket gradually filling with treasures. Merig disappears inside, determined to find the perfect surprise for Kate, while she lingers outside, entranced by the whimsical trinkets on display. Her eyes land on a stunning pair of spherical earrings, crafted to resemble the moon in all its glory. Kate's face lights up with wonder as she picks up the earrings, her fingers tracing the intricate details. She stands there, lost in thought, her mind whirling with delight, as she contemplates the perfect accessory to complement the moon pendant she still wears.

(K)I definitely want these. They’re perfect and would go with my necklace. Merig, my love, could you come here, please?! I found something!

(Msr)I'm right here.

(K)...Oh, I'm so sorry, I was calling for my husband.

(Msr)Oh please forgive me miss, I thought you were my wife calling for me until I noticed you weren’t her. How silly of me.

(K)Wait, your name is Merig?

(Msr)Indeed it is.

(K)What a coincidence, that's my husband's name. As you can see, I'm very pregnant and you caught a little off guard. I'm so sorry if I came off as rude.

(Msr)No worries, I should be the one apologizing. If you don’t mind me asking. Your husband, is he a goblin, perhaps?

(K)As a matter of fact, he is. How did you know?

(M)I'm right here, sweetheart, I'm sorry I was grabbing you some mushrooms and...

(Msr)Merig?

(M)Yes, that's me. I’m so sorry, do I know you?

(Msr)Well, I would hope so, but it's been a long time, so maybe not.

(K)Honey, you'll never believe it, he has the same name as you. That's crazy, isn't it?

(M)...Yeah, it is.

(Msr)I'm so sorry to ask such an intrusive question. But do remember who I am? You can take a moment to think about it.

(M)[sniff] You smell familiar.

(Msr)I'm sure I do. You were pretty young the last time you saw me. You should know who I am by the fact that we look similar and share a name, Merig Flynn. I’ve been looking for you.

(M)...Dad?

(Msr)Hello, son, it’s been twenty-five years since we last saw each other.

(M)...I don’t even know what to say. Is it really you?

(Msr)Kind of hard to believe, isn't it?

(M)Well, my first question is, how long have you been in Tara?

(Msr)Only for a few days, we just got here, and we were looking for you.

(M)We?

(Msr)Yes, we.

(O)I’m so sorry, Merig, something caught my eye, and I wanted to look at it a bit closer. They have everything we need here for crops.

(Msr)That’s wonderful, Orla, we found the shop you were looking for.

(O)Yes, and now we can visit the magic shop here, I’m so excited!... Oh, I’m so sorry, was I interrupting something?

(Msr)Not at all, dear. In fact, I think we found just the thing we were looking for.

(O)Oh? What’s that, my love?

(Msr)[chuckles] Well, just take a look right in front of you.

(O)...Oh, I remember you. I saw you at the pub the other day when I went to the bathroom.

(K)...Yes, I remember, it’s so nice to meet you again. What a coincidence.

(O)...Is this your husband?

(K)[giggles] Indeed he is and apparently, he’s also your son.

Kate and Merig stand frozen, their eyes wide with wonder, as they gaze at Orla and Merig Senior. Orla's eyes, initially fixed on Merig, slowly expand in astonishment, her jaw dropping in unison. Tears begin to well up in her eyes, and she covers her mouth with a trembling hand as if to stifle a gasp. The emotions swirling within her threaten to overwhelm her, and her face contorts in a mix of shock and joy. Merig Senior, meanwhile, looks at his son with a warm, beaming smile, his eyes shining with pride and happiness. Orla's hand slowly falls away from her mouth, and she begins to speak in a voice trembling with emotion, her words barely above a whisper. Her voice cracks as she struggles to contain her tears, her words pouring out in a heartfelt, joyous torrent.

(O)...Oh my god, Merig, is that you? Is that my little boy?

(M)[chuckles] Hi Mom, it’s true, it’s me.

(O)Oh Merig, we found him, we found our baby boy! I’m so sorry, I don’t want you to see your mother cry. It’s just been so long since we’ve seen you. And this woman, is she carrying your child?

(M)As a matter of fact, she is. This is my wife, Kate.

(O)Oh my goodness, is there a goblin child in there?

(K)[smiles] Yes ma’am, there is, and he’s good and healthy. We just came here from the healer and got my weekly check-up.

(O)[gasp] Oh my goodness, that’s wonderful! How far along are you?

(K)I’ve got just a few weeks left and he’ll be born.

(O)I still can’t believe it, Merig, our son found love here. When did you two get married?

(K)Just earlier this year in April, I found out I was eight weeks pregnant about three weeks after our honeymoon. We were both ecstatic.

(O)Oh, I bet you were, hon, this is amazing. I’m a little overwhelmed right now but in a good way. I’d love to get to know you both. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you, my son. I’m so happy to see you.

(M)I’m happy to see you too, Mom, and Dad. I can’t believe you’re both here and I’m kind of in shock at the moment. Why did you come to Tara?

(Msr)Well, we heard you were here. We had heard about your knighting in another place we were living in, Belvast.

(M)That’s very far away from here. Did you travel all the way here just to see me?

(O)Of course, my baby, as soon as your father and I heard you were knighted by the queen, we packed our things and came here on the ship. We bought a cart and horse in Port Cobbh and came straight here and we didn't stop.

(Msr)It’s true, son, we had to come here and settle down before we came looking for you.

(M)I see, I’m just glad you're both here. I’m still processing this.

(O)It’s okay, honey, take all the time you need.

(Msr)I just have one question. Is your brother here, too?

(M)[smiles] Yeah, he is.

(O)[gasp] Barth, he’s here, where is he?

(M)He’s at the Royal Guard training grounds right now. He’s the captain of the guards. He and the others should be getting ready to head to the pub.

(O)Oh my goodness, you’re both okay! I’m so happy. You both will have to tell us everything that happened after we separated.

(M)We’ll definitely catch up. Why don’t we all go to the pub together?

(O)Perfect, we were going to go there for lunch, anyway.

(M)Sure thing, we can finish up here and then go, if that's okay.

(K)I wanted to get a few things for my cooking and I found these cute earrings that are shaped like moons, just like my necklace.

(O)Oh, those are so pretty. Take your time, sweetheart, and then we can go. I too was here for a few things. I want to start a small crop field.

(K)Yes, so do I, but since the harvest has already passed, I have to wait for spring.

(O)That’s okay, do you love cooking as well?

(K)I do. I also love foraging, but as you can see, I can’t do that for a while. That’s why Merig and I came here.

(O)[smiles] Well, we can all shop together.

(K)[smiles] That would be wonderful. I would love that very much. It’s so nice to meet Merig’s parents. You both seem lovely.

(O)You as well, dear, you’re such a sweet person. Why don’t we have some fun and then we’ll go to the pub for lunch?

(K)I would love that as well. We were going to drop things off at our home before we went there.

(O)We’ll do the same and we’ll meet up at the pub.

(K)That sounds great. What do you think, my love?

(M)I think that’s a great idea too, sweetheart. I’m sure Barth will be happy to see you both.

(Msr)We’ll be happy to see him as well. Let’s finish up here, shall we, Orla?

(O)[smiles] Yes, Merig my love, let’s have some fun.

With their shopping complete, Merig, Kate, and Merig's parents disperse to their respective homes to deposit their purchases. They reconvene outside the cozy Bright and Sherry pub, entering together in a joyful orderly fashion. As they make their way to their usual table, they see Larry, Ashley, Barth, Gordo, Emerald, and Cormac, already seated and engrossed in lively conversation. Barth, lost in the discussion, suddenly senses their approach and turns his attention from the group, his eyes locking onto the four. Then, his eyes widen in astonishment, his gaze locking on the sight of Merig Senior and Orla. He then leaps from his seat, frozen in place, as Merig Senior and Orla emerge and stand before him, beaming with warm smiles. The air is charged with anticipation as Barth's gaze fixes on the two, his eyes shining with unspoken emotions. Merig Senior and Orla step forward, their smiles radiant, and lock eyes with Barth, who stands there, stunned and silent. They approach him, their arms open wide, and envelop their beloved son in a tender hug. Barth, finally snapping out of his shocked state, manages to find his voice as it trembles and sputters.

(B)Am I seeing things right now?

(O)No, my son, I assure you we are very real. I’m trying to contain my happiness or else I’ll explode.[giggles]

(Msr)It’s been a long time, my boy. Your mother and I have been worried about you and your brother for twenty-five years.

(B)I can’t believe it, you're both alive.

(Msr)We are, and we’re so glad you and Merig are alive as well.

(B)I’m in a bit of shock at the moment, forgive me.

(M)So am I, Barth, but let’s all sit and talk, shall we?

(K)We shall, my love.

Kate and Merig settle into their seats, side by side, their hands touching as they exchange a warm glance. Merig Senior and Orla follow, taking the adjacent seats, their faces aglow with happiness. Across the table, Barth slowly sinks back into his chair, his eyes still fixed on his parents, his expression a mix of shock and wonder. Larry and Ashley sit beside him, their faces filled with curiosity, while Gordo and Emerald occupy the end of the table nearest Barth. At the opposite end, Cormac sits beside Ashley and Larry, his eyes wide with alarm, his face pale, as he gazes at Merig Senior and Orla with a panicked expression. Barth's gaze remains locked on his parents, his mind racing with thoughts and emotions, as he struggles to process the unexpected reunion. He takes a deep breath, his voice barely above a whisper, as he speaks up again, his words trembling with emotion.

(B)I’m guessing I’m not the only one trying to process this.

(M)Absolutely not, big brother, I am too.

(B)I guess my first question is, what happened? I took Merig somewhere safe and weeks later we came back and you both were gone, along with the rest of the villagers.

(Msr)Well, after you and Merig ran away, your mother and I confronted the people who came from Dunbarton. They found where we settled, along with other townspeople who came with us. The people that became aggressive with us, threatened to burn down the village if we didn't leave. We had no choice and when we came back for you both, you weren't there either. We had hoped that you both found safety and your mother and I went on to live in Bangor for a while. We had to move everything and settle down for a while. Luckily, the people of that village were accepting of me, and kind to us and listened to our story. After a while of living there, we heard about the war between humans and Fomors ending and Cichol’s defeat. Things started changing, and we started to see peace, but some humans still had disdain for Fomors. We had heard of a place on a completely different continent and we wanted to relocate, so we did. We’ve been living in Belvast for the past twenty-five years. Luckily, we were able to continue growing our food, and it was peaceful and still is.

(B)That explains why we didn’t find you anywhere. Merig and I went looking for you for a while. But you weren’t in any of the towns and cities we visited.

(M)It’s true, a human couple took us in and took care of us until we were old enough.

(O)Oh, that’s good to hear that you had a suitable home to live in! I’m so sorry, my babies. We’re so sorry we didn’t come looking for you. The townspeople that threatened us said that they had people that would watch the area in case we came back and they threatened our lives. It was only by chance we didn’t get caught when we came back to look for you.

(Msr)They even threatened to go hunting for you two and kill you both. Your mother and I didn’t want that for you. We did what we could to protect you and that’s why we found another place to go. We feel terrible and I know you both hate us.

(M)No, why would we? It was out of your control because the people threatened you and us. I’d rather you two be spared, otherwise you wouldn’t be sitting here. We were just kids. What exactly could we do?

(B)Agree, did we miss you? Sure, but we knew we had to find another place to go and luckily, the couple Merig mentioned were wonderful people to us.

(O)That’s a relief, so how did you two end up here?

(M)...

(B)...Well…

(M)That’s kind of a long story.

(Msr)Well it’s a good thing we came here for lunch, tell us everything.

(C)I’m not sure if I should be here.

(K)What do you mean, Cormac?

(C)I think you know why, Kate.

(K)Hey, don’t do this, Cormac, don’t do the same thing Gordo did when my parents came to visit us.

(C)I think this is different since Merig was the victim and Gordo’s crime was small compared to mine.

(O)What is he talking about, Merig?

(M)Well, before we all start this conversation, I think you should get to know everyone else. Cormac, you’re not going anywhere, so just sit your ass down. We’ve been through this.

(C)[sigh] Alright, go ahead.

(M)Well, as you both know, this is my wife, Kate.

(Msr)It’s very nice to meet you, Kate. I do apologize for our interaction earlier.

(K)There’s no need to apologize, it was an honest mistake.

(O)And for you all who were confused when we got here, we apologize. My name is Orla, and this is Merig Senior, to clear up any confusion. As you all can guess, we’re Barth and Merig’s parents.

(L)It’s very nice to meet you both. I’m kind of still in shock myself. I know Merig and Barth are as well.

(B)You got that right, buddy, I’m still processing it.

(M)I am as well, we ran into them at the market.

(L)Well, I guess I’ll start the introductions on this side of the table. I’m Larry Dugan, I’m a master swordsman and the second in command to Merig. He’s also my best friend, and we were each other’s best man at our weddings.

(O)[gasp] You both got married?

(L)That’s right, this is my wife Ashely sitting next to me. We got married three months ago.

(A)It’s very nice to meet you both. I can say I’m a little stunned as well. Barth and Merig told us their story, but they never thought they’d see you again.

(M)It’s true, we honestly thought you were dead. No one knew who you were in the towns and cities we visited after we went out on our own when we were old enough.

(B)Yeah, and this is probably the only place next to Tailltean that was even accepting of Fomors.

(M)That’s where Kate and Cormac are from.

(K)I grew up around Fomors back in Taill, so it was no surprise to me when I moved here to see Fomors living with humans.

(O)How wonderful, we’d love to hear your story once everyone has introduced themselves.

(G)Well, I’ll introduce myself next. I’m Gordo Berkus. I’m a master martial artist and the lieutenant of the Royal Guards, as well as a friend to Merig and Barth.

(EM)I’m actually new to the guards. In fact, I just met everyone today. I’m Emerald Gallegher, and I’m a martial artist as well, working to be a master.

(C)...

(K)Cormac, go ahead and introduce yourself.

(C)Right uh, I’m Cormac Giffin. I’m an archer and the sergeant to the Royal Guards and another friend to Merig and Barth.

(Msr)You’re an archer as well?

(C)Yes, sir, I wield a crossbow.

(Msr)I bet you’re a brilliant marksman.

(C)I am, I’ve learned a thing or two from Merig, but I’m better with my eyes than my ears. Merig is a machine with sight and sound.

(Msr)So you’re just like me, son.

(M)There’s a story to that. I didn’t know how to fight at all until I came to Tara. I tried fighting with just about every weapon, but none of them were good for me. One day, I picked up a bow, drew back an arrow, and aimed it at the target. I hit the bullseye dead on and I realized the bow was my weapon.

(Msr)You got that from me, but you’ve mastered it and I’m proud of you.

(M)I had to learn how to better my sight, sound, and even my smell to master it.

(O)So what are your jobs in the Royal Guards?

(M)Our primary goal is to keep bandits from raiding the city. We patrol outside each morning and take precautionary measures to ensure bandits don’t infiltrate. We also protect the citizens within the city, so we have two purposes. Larry likes to say we’re just pest control, but we’re more than that.

(L)Eh, these days I’m embracing it, we enjoy it for sure.

(M)Barth also became captain six months ago.

(B)It’s true, I’m a master mage, just like you, Mom.

(O)[gasp] Oh I love to hear that, my boy, you and Merig both are just like your father and me. I just might shed a tear.

(Msr)Is there anyone else we should introduce ourselves to?

(C)Well, my fiancé Deirdre is at the flower shop helping her grandmother.

(B)And my significant other, Sarah, is one of the healers here. We just recently started sharing a home. We’ve been together for six months now, the same for Cormac and Deirdre.

(O)Oh, that sounds wonderful. Both of our boys have found love, Merig.

(Msr)Indeed they have, Orla. I’m very happy for you both and so is your mother. How long have you and Kate been married?

(K)We’ve been married for eight months, together for over a year, right my love?

(M)That’s right, we confessed our love on her birthday.

(O)Oh how romantic, tell us about it.

(B)Well, to preface this before they tell you. There’s something important to the story, and a disclaimer needs to be addressed. Is that okay, little brother?

(M)Of course, I know what you're alluding to and I’ll explain as well.

(B)Mom, and Dad, after Merig and I tried our best to look for you both, we decided to try finding somewhere to settle down, but we couldn’t stay in one place. The humans we met were just vile to us, so we kept traveling. Well, we ran into some bandits one day and they tried attacking us, but we didn’t want to fight. We told them we didn’t have much since we were traveling and the leader of the bandits was there. He stopped the bandits from attacking and told us that we could stay in his hideout with the rest of the bandits. So we accepted his offer, and we lived in the camp for a while, but we never hurt anyone. That’s where we met Larry, Cormac, and Gordo, and they’re like brothers to us. They protected us from other bandits who didn’t accept us into the camp and so did the leader. We were there for a few years. I’m making a disclaimer at this point. The events that follow this story are in the past and all has been forgiven.

(C)I’ll finish it. I feel it’s my place to do so since it was my crimes that were committed and forgiven.

(M)Alright, buddy, but just know that if none of us hates you, then my parents most certainly won’t hate you.

(C)I doubt that, but I hope so.

(O)Whatever it is, I’m sure we can look past it like Merig and Barth and everyone else has.

(C)Well, after a few years of them being at the camp, the leader stepped down and the position was going to be given to the current leader, but he declined and it was given to me. All was well until Merig, Barth, Larry and even Gordo were talking about leaving and coming here to live among humans and live better lives. To preface the rest of the story, I was betrayed by a human who is now in the queen’s prison for the rest of his miserable life. One night, he and I fought the same bandits that I would come to join the camp and become its leader. One bandit killed him and I brought him back using a revival moonstone and he was alive again. Well, he completely changed and accused me of killing him or conspiring with the bandits to have him killed. He believed his own lie over the truth and gave me this scar on my face using a sword and turned the entire town of Tailltean against me. He also told my significant other at the time, the lie that he came up with. She believed him and left me while the townspeople exiled me and I was on my own. The same bandits stopped to give me aid during the fight between him and me and took me in when I was exiled.

(O)Oh you poor thing, I’m so sorry.

(C)Don’t be, wait till you hear Kate’s story. When Merig and the others talked about leaving the camp, I was hurt. The pain from being betrayed took control of me and I became a completely different person. I was consumed by pain and anger toward humans and I resented the human who hurt me, but it made me hate other humans as well. But it also made me a monster when Merig and Larry decided to leave. I threatened them that if they left, I would one day get my revenge. I threatened the rest that if they left, I would enact that revenge. But something inside me grew and ten years later, I did just that. I planned to kidnap Kate once I knew she and Merig fell in love and I held Barth hostage after he attempted to stop my plan from unfolding. I sent Gordo to kidnap her, and he brought her to me and I told him to keep her in a locked cell. Merig and a good number of the guards came to her rescue and there was a battle between them and my bandits, as well as myself. Barth rescued Kate during the fight, and the anger in me grew, so I targeted her and shot my crossbow at her. Merig was quick on his feet and ran to shield Kate, and the bolt pierced him in his torso and he died in Kate’s arms. I realized what I had done and finally snapped out of my madness. I realized I had killed someone who I considered a brother, along with the other goblins.

(K)But he saw my necklace, the one I’m wearing now that Merig gave me the night we confessed our love. Turns out it’s a revival moonstone, just like the one Cormac mentioned he used on that human. He told me its purpose, and I used it immediately and brought Merig back to life and now he’s sitting here next to me as my husband and soon-to-be father to the goblin child growing inside my womb.

(C)I felt terrible about what happened and I had the guilt weighing on me even though he came back to life. After a month or so, I came here to better myself and saw for myself that humans here were wonderful and accepted Fomors. I didn’t believe it at first, but I was proven wrong and I approached Kate months later and begged for forgiveness from everyone, not just her. She did give me a good beating, though, for my past crimes. She’s got a powerful right hook for a woman. I'll admit it was painful, and I bled, but I knew I deserved it.

(K)[giggles] I still feel bad about that. I went through some anguish, and I had the help of the people who cared for me, but Cormac did redeem himself and proved to us that he regretted everything. My parents came to visit while Merig and I were planning our wedding. They stayed for a few days and then they were making the journey back home when bandits attacked.

(C)It’s now led by the bandit who turned down the leader position before I took it.

(K)They came to sabotage my wedding, and we had a battle with them. One of them almost killed my parents, but Cormac stepped in the way of an oncoming arrow and it pierced his shoulder just inches from his chest. He almost died, and we all forgave him and gave him a chance to prove himself and he did just that.

(C)I battled with myself and still had the guilt and even thought I should’ve died. I even contemplated taking my own life, thinking I deserved death. But Kate, being the wonderful person she is as well as Merig, treated me like family and I was even a part of their wedding alongside Gordo to present their rings after their vows. They’ve both been wonderful to me, but I neglected my healing after my injury. During that time, I met Deirdre, who took care of me after Barth, and everyone convinced me to get help while Kate and Merig were on their honeymoon. At first, I rejected Deirdre’s offer for dinner, but as soon as she heard that I was back at the healer, she rushed over and stayed by my side for three weeks and visited me at home to take care of me. I owe my recovery to her and I’ve asked her to marry me six months later.

(B)That’s how long Sarah and I have been together. She treated me during that same battle where Cormac got shot. I got slashed on my arm and lost some blood, and we rushed to the healer with Cormac and we were both treated. Sarah visited me at home as well to care for me and I fell in love with her. I confessed my love for her in a dungeon, and I’m sure Kate would love to start with that story.

(K)Well, since we’re sharing our tales, I’ll be the next to do so. I know you’re just now meeting me for the first time and my story may not be of significance, but it does involve me falling in love with Merig, so I guess it’s relevant.

(Msr)It’s just as important as the other stories. You’re a Flynn, so you’re our family now by marriage. Anything that pertains to you is very significant especially since you’re carrying on the legacy in your womb.

(O)That’s right, dear, you’ve clearly made our son happy and I’m sure your parents love him as well.

(K)[smiles] Oh they adore him, they gifted him a new bow as a gift for his knighting. They also gave us their blessing to get married and were happy to call him their son-in-law, Barth included. He’s been my mentor, teaching me all kinds of powerful spells.

(O)[gasp] You’re a mage, too?

(K)I am. My father taught me the basics at a young age, and as I got older, he taught me some spells as well, but we focused on mastering the basics. I’ll try to make my story brief. I met a man that I fell in love with and we were together for a while before he asked me to marry him. I was very much in love with him at the time and I said yes. I would come to regret that decision, because, over time, he became possessive and ultimately abusive, verbally and physically. We got into an altercation when my parents invited me to dinner after I told them I needed to get out of there and we wanted to devise a plan. Sean stopped me from leaving that night and proceeded to beat me into submission before my father showed up at the door, and heard my screams for help from inside our home. He barged in and intervened and gave Sean an even worse beating. I stayed with Ash. We practically grew up together as soon as we were born. She’s my best friend and she might as well be my sister. But she’s also my hero, Sean stalked me relentlessly and eventually broke into her house and almost strangled me to death. Ash swooped in and saved my life and my father gave Sean one last good beating before he was sent to prison for what I thought would be ten years. As for me, after having just spent an entire week in the healer weeks prior, I had to go back because I was feeling the worst pain possible in my abdomen. I was at the healer still going through pain until we soon figured out what was causing it…I miscarried my unborn child that I was pregnant with by Sean, and it took me a long time to recover from that. Thankfully, I made it through because of the love that I had from my parents and Ash. Ash held me most nights while I sobbed from the nightmares. A while later, Ash and I planned on coming here and starting a new life, but my mother fell ill and I stayed and helped my father take care of her. Ash stayed as well, but after a few years, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a royal alchemist. I didn't want to stop her, so she came here and I told her that I would do the same once Mom was better. It took a year or so, but she finally recovered and later on, I made the decision to move here. My mother didn’t want me to be tied down at home and insisted I go, so I did.

(A)I helped her move, and she lived with me for an entire year.

(M)The first day I met her, I was in love, and I tried to win her heart.

(K)He succeeded as we got to know each other. I discovered that he was kind, caring, brave, protective, and much more. He was a bit of a showoff with his arrows. I’ll tell you that much.

(O)[giggles] My Merig was the same way. He’d look out of the corner of his eye to make sure I was looking before he shot his arrows.

(K)[giggle] Oh my goodness, my Merig did the same thing, that’s crazy.

(O)I thought it was the cutest thing, and I just went along with it.

(M)Here come the embarrassing stories, Dad.

(Msr)[chuckles] I hear you, son, just let our wives have their fun.

(M)Trust me, this woman is my moon and I love her.

(Msr)I love your mother as well and she charms me all the time even after thirty years of marriage.

(K)That’s about how long my parents have been married. My father met my mother in Tir, that’s where her side of the family is from. He met her while he was there teaching at the magic school for a while and then he met my mom. They fell in love, got married, and soon moved to Tailltean where my dad is from. My mom wanted to move there with him and that’s where they started a new life together and my mom soon got pregnant with me. I’m an only child and Ash has been a sister to me like I said before, so I didn’t grow up alone.

(A)I’m an only child as well, so we had fun together. I was so happy to bring her here when she was ready, and I would hear so much about how sweet and adorable she thought Merig was.

(K)[blush] And you thought you were the only one having to hear embarrassing stories, my love.

(M)Now you know how I feel, my moon. It’s okay. I think it’s cute when you get embarrassed.

(K)[sigh] You’re lucky I love you as much as I do, my earth.

(A)Kate isn't the only person I’d heard it from. Larry and I both heard it from Merig nonstop about how gorgeous and amazing he thought Kate was.

(M)[chuckles] I couldn’t help it. It happens when you’re in love. Isn't that right, Larry?

(L)This woman and I have been through a lot, so I won’t judge, pal. This is my red hot flame, and I made the right choice in marrying her. We’re two flames that burn together for eternity and one day I’ll share our love story.

(A)That’s right, my big flame. I made the right decision as well.

(O)So wonderful to see these goblins stealing the hearts of women, especially our sons.

(B)Well, this is my first relationship being with Sarah, so it’s all still new to me.

(Msr)I’m sure it is, son, and if you ever need advice, you can always come to me.

(B)Thanks, Dad, we’re very lucky goblins and we love our women. We learned a very valuable lesson that you don't hurt the ones you love.

(K)But Sean didn't, and that's why he's in the queen's prison like we mentioned. Just a few weeks after Merig and I got back from our honeymoon, I started feeling sick, which is important later. It had been just a few years since he was put away, but Sean showed up in this very pub looking for me. We found out later. Somehow, he got out of prison and knew where I was. He says they let him out early, and that was confirmed later. Sean enacted his revenge and found out I was married, so he couldn't touch me since Merig became very protective, and I didn't want him near me. Merig and Larry made him leave and Sean planted a Fomor seal on Merig and was able to control him. Merig started acting strange, and we didn't know what was happening to him. He ran off to Dunbarton and Sean hid away with him in Rabbie dungeon and we went to rescue Merig. We fought monsters, and I didn't care. I wanted my husband back, and I took a beating from Sean once again so that could happen. Sean had a mana gun to my belly because I revealed that I was pregnant. Merig started to fade in and out of his possession, but we still needed to destroy the seal. As Sean had the gun to my belly after beating me, two heroes emerged.

Enchanted silence falls as Kate's gaze shifts to Cormac and Gordo, her smile radiant. The two goblins exchange a glance, their eyes sparkling with joy, before soft smiles creep onto their faces, with a hint of shyness. The rest of the group turns to them, their faces aglow with warmth and amusement, as the two goblins' bashfulness grows, their cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Kate's attention returns to Merig and Barth's parents, her smile still shining bright. She continues her tale, her words weaving a spell of wonder and joy, as Merig Senior and Orla listen, completely enthralled as she speaks.

(K)Cormac shot a bolt at Sean and it impaled his hand with the gun in it, while Gordo used his martial arts to fight him and stop him from hurting me any further. I was able to get up and rip up the Fomor seal that Sean had and Merig was free from his possession.

(C)Gordo and I got hurt pretty badly and so we stayed behind. Those were Larry's orders. We heard the commotion and tried our best to get to them in time after we heard gunshots.

(G)We couldn't let Sean kill Kate and her unborn goblin child.

(K)Remember when I said I got sick? Well, that was because I found out I was pregnant and didn't know it. I planned on telling everyone at the right time, but then all that happened and I had to say something so that he didn't kill me. He had me by the throat again, and I didn't want him to kill another baby. Merig has been very protective of me since I've been pregnant, and I honestly don't blame him.

(M)A man bumped into her the other day and I raised my voice. The baby was moving a lot since he does that when he hears loud noises and people talking. It made Kate uncomfortable, and I took responsibility for it and apologized. I took the man outside and had some words with him. He blatantly mentioned he's one of the humans that hates Fomors.

(Msr)At least you dealt with him. I would've done the same if it was your mother.

(O)Kate, that sounds like when I was pregnant with Merig. He was very sensitive to sound when he was still in my womb. It was the strangest thing, even my Merig thought so.

(Msr)But it makes sense, you're still very sensitive to sound, are you not, Merig?

(M)Yeah, actually, I am. That's how I'm able to hear bandits when we're patrolling each morning.

(O)I'm sure your senses are very handy when you're fighting.

(M)Yep, I can hear when a bandit is drawing back his bow. It's a very distinct sound, but I can definitely hear it.

(O)By the way, Kate, I'm so sorry you lost your baby. That's never an easy thing to experience, and I'm sure it took a toll on you.

(K)It did, but thanks to everyone around me at the time, I was all right.

(O)I'm honestly sorry about everything that has happened and my heart goes out to you. And as for Cormac and Gordo, you two have been forgiven by our son and everyone else. You've both done remarkable and brave things and saved the life of Kate and her unborn child that she's carrying. I know Merig and I haven't seen our sons in over two decades, but they're still our sons and we love them and we hope they don't hate us.

(M)We don't, Mom, and we don't hate Dad either.

(O)We hope you'll accept us back in your lives.

(B)We have no reason not to, Mom. We're really glad you're both alive and here.

(K)So, you said you heard that Merig got knighted?

(O)Yes, it was news all over that the queen knighted her most esteemed commander in the Royal Guards of Tara.

(K)Almost like our wedding, it was public as well. But how did you not know about that?

(Msr)We did. That’s how we initially knew Merig was here, and that's when we started packing our things. Then we heard Merig was knighted, and it gave us more motivation to leave Belvast.

(O)We loved Belvast, but we wanted to be here with Merig and Barth, not knowing he was here as well. We missed them so much and we wanted to be a family again.

(K)Well, I'm glad you're both here. I had asked Merig after our wedding if he ever wondered where you both were.

(O)We didn't expect them to come looking for us. I'm sure Merig and Barth wanted their own lives and not stress over us.

(M)I told Kate that since I was here and happy, I didn't want to be disappointed and find out that you both weren't alive.

(Msr)That's understandable, son. I feel terrible since we didn't continue looking for you and Barth.

(B)We didn't want you stressing either. I know how Mom gets when she's stressed.

(O)I'm so sorry, baby, there were nights when I just cried because I missed my babies. But I had to tell myself that you both were being taken care of. I know your father was getting tired of me.

(Msr)No, my love, I was more than happy to hold you and help you feel better.

(K)That sounds like my Merig. He's wonderful and is always there for me when I need him.

(O)Oh, I bet, that's why we named him after his father. We knew he'd be the mirror image of my husband and it seems he went on to become a wonderful person and a brave warrior. He wields a bow just like his father, and Barth uses magic just like your dear old mother. I'm so proud of you both. I’m sure Barth is just as amazing of a warrior as well, and I hope you’re being good to your significant other.

(B)Of course, I love her too much to not be good to her.

(EM)Well, I guess this is my way of getting to know everyone along with Merig Senior and Orla. It's nice to meet you all officially. I didn't expect a whirlwind of stories. It sounds like chaos and an adventure at the same time. Is there anything we’re missing from the love story between Kate and Merig? I’m curious. I’ve only heard rumors.

(K)Oh right, of course, so during the chaos with the bandits, Merig and I were spending a lot of time together. Not long after we confessed our love, he asked me on a date, which I happily agreed to, and he took me to the square and had me close my eyes. Unbeknownst to me, we were rising about a hundred feet in the air, and at first I was scared, but he said the sky was our dancefloor. So we danced in the sky for a few hours and then he took me home and asked me to be with him. Needless to say, I did not hesitate. We had also shared our first kiss out in the forest while he was watching over me so I could forage for mushrooms. Then we went to the banquet after so long and had a lot of fun again, like old times. We came here after that and, well, one patron that frequented this place was banned for good because he was drunk after a two-day ban. He decided he was going to try to get me to drink with him and take me home with him, and I’m sure you can imagine why, he was always persistent with me. Well, I refused, and he didn’t want to take “no” for an answer, so when I fought out of his grimy hands, he thought it was the best idea to hit me in the face with the back of his hand. I’m sure you can imagine what happened next.

(Msr)I would sure hope that my son stepped in and tore him apart.

(K)Actually, you’d be right, but the man is still alive. But yes, Merig beat him into oblivion. He and Larry threw him out and Sherry banned him from this pub for good.

(O)Again, so brave of you, Merig, very protective of the woman you love.

(Msr)Did your eyes happen to turn red?

(M)Yeah actually, but it wasn’t the first time it happened.

(L)Yeah, I’ve seen it a few times, but I’ve never seen Merig that angry before.

(A)I didn’t either and I’ve known these two for years.

(K)I didn’t see it either until that night.

(Msr)Well, you got that from me. That’s what happens when I’m angry as well. In fact, it should’ve been passed on to Barth as well.

(B)It’s never happened to me and I honestly don’t want that. I’m sure Sarah would be terrified of me if she saw me like that.

(M)I thought the same when Kate first saw it, but she still loved me and wasn’t afraid.

(Msr)Neither was your mother. It first happened when she was pregnant with you, Barth. The townspeople in Dunbarton threatened to hurt Orla, and I couldn't let that happen. I got so angry and my eyes turned red suddenly and I just went mad trying to protect her. They had even more of a reason to exile us. I had to protect my pregnant wife.

(L)That’s understandable Mr. Flynn. Merig would do the same for Kate. We all know he would.

(A)He loves this woman more than air. You should’ve seen his face when he first saw her.

(M)It was love at first sight and we celebrated her birthday that day.

(K)I'll always remember it. I didn’t want them to know it was my birthday.

(L)Merig made a little bow from toothpicks and an elastic while I was holding a mini target. It was his idea, and he was the perfect shot, like always.

(M)Then Larry thought he could do it and he failed. The toothpick arrow hit my eyelid. It’s a good thing my sight is as good as it was, or I wouldn’t have closed my eye in time, and it would’ve hit my eyeball.

(L)You distracted me, I’ll die on that hill.[smirk]

(M)Yeah, yeah, Ash and Kate had shown up when I was still covering my eye. It was a little embarrassing, but I didn’t realize I was still doing it. Something just clicked in my mind when I saw her and I was just instantly drawn to her.

(O)That’s how it starts sometimes, love at first sight.

(M)Kate turned out to be a wonderful person underneath all that beauty once I got to know her.

(K)Coming here was the best decision I ever made, and I started my new life after everything that happened. Despite all the bad things, it was very much worth it, and all the good things that came out of it completely outweighed everything.

(M)I agree, sweetheart, coming here was the best decision I ever made as well. I wanted to finally live with humans, and the queen accepted Larry and me into the guards. She was very kind to us and made the other guards show us respect since we both proved ourselves as guards, just like them. We owe a lot to her, and she even officiated at my and Kate’s wedding as well as Larry and Ash’s wedding. I’m sure she’ll officiate Cormac and Deirdre’s wedding.

(C)Let’s hope so, it would be an honor. But I wanted to ask your parents something.

(O)Sure, dear, you can ask us anything.

(Msr)We’re all ears.

(C)My past crimes, I just wanted to apologize for what I did to your sons. I’ve apologized to Kate’s parents as well, so it’s only appropriate. I will also ask for your forgiveness if you have any animosity towards me.

(Msr)Listen, Cormac, you have worked everything out with Merig and Kate, have you not?

(C)Yes, sir, they’ve both absolved me after I escaped death protecting Kate’s parents.

(O)And you showed them that you were willing to change your ways and proved to Kate and Merig that you would protect them and fight alongside them.

(C)Yes, ma’am, I wanted to prove myself and return to the person that Merig and the other goblins knew me as before. Even if I had to die to earn their trust and forgiveness, I was going to do it.

(Msr)And did they forgive you?

(C)Yes, they did. They think of me as family despite everything.

(O)Then so do Merig Senior and I. Whatever happened between you all is in the past. You all sorted it out and things got better from the sounds of it.

(Msr)You’re all adults. We trust you all to work things out in your life and with whomever you wish to be a part of, it is up to you. I don’t agree with your misdeeds, but it’s in the past like Orla said. We get to meet the real you, the person we’re talking to now.

(O)Agreed, if our sons accept you and think of you as family, then we’ll do the same. If you’re looking for forgiveness from us, it wasn’t ours to give in the first place. But if it makes you feel any better, we forgive you and you are absolved of your crimes.

(Msr)That goes for any crimes of yours as well, Gordo, it takes a lot of self-reflection to seek forgiveness from the ones you care about and have hurt. But it’s even more rewarding and respectable to realize that what you did was wrong and better yourself for those people as well.

(O)You’ve been redeemed, embrace it and move on. Don’t let it consume you, and continue to be better.

(C)When I went with Kate and Merig to see Sean, I felt the pain from when he betrayed me. My fiancée came with me and I gave that man a beating, alongside Merig. It felt good, but I could still feel the pain he caused me, only it manifested into something that calmed me, and I felt better after hurting the one who hurt me. Just recently, the woman that left me approached me here in the city. We saw each other prior to that when we stayed in Taill after rescuing Merig. She saw us on our horses riding into town and she visited my room. I didn’t let her in and I yelled at her a few things I don’t regret. That woman hurt me as well, and I want nothing to do with her. She thought she could squeeze her way back into my life, but I told her otherwise. Now that Deirdre and I are getting married, the other woman has no business being in our life.

(O)Good, stand your ground, and don’t let her manipulate you. I’m sure she told you that she still loves you, didn’t she?

(C)Of course, she did, and I told her that I didn’t love her anymore. I love Deirdre. She’s done more for me than that woman ever did.

(O)I’d like to meet Deirdre.

(C)She should be here soon. She comes here in the afternoon since she knows we do after our guard duties.

(K)Yeah, Deirdre is a sweetheart, and she’s a saint for taking care of Cormac.

(C)Our story is just about her taking care of me and us falling in love and forming a bond together. We confessed in the forest surrounded by flowers and we were harvesting sunflowers at the time. I killed the bandit who attacked her a few years ago. She has a huge scar on her back because of it and she was groped by the bandit. He came to finish the job and threatened to rape her since that’s what he was known for, but I showed up while she was undressing. I pointed my crossbow at him and gave him a head start to run. But I killed him with one bolt when he ran, and now he can’t rape any more women. Deirdre and I made love for the first time that night as well. It was the happiest I’d ever been, and I’m still that much happier here.

(O)That’s wonderful, Cormac, I’m so happy for you. I’m sorry that happened to Deirdre, the poor thing.

(C)She’s alright now. We’ve both been each other’s solace and source of healing. We do share a home and I love every minute of it, being with her every day and night.

(Msr)I’m so glad you found someone to love, you deserve it.

(K)Agreed. He didn’t think so, but he quickly realized he was worthy of it. Merig as well, and our first time making love was another decision that I don’t regret.

(M)Kate and I first made love that night after that drunk man put his hands on her. He left a big cut on her lip, and she was living with me at the time because of the threat the bandits posed to her. I felt much better, and I was able to protect her better if she was with me. I used healing powder on her lip and it went away. Then it just happened, and the rest is history.

(K)That’s right, my love, we confessed under the full moon and that’s why I smiled when I saw these earrings at the shop. All I could think about was that night and it changed my life forever for the better. I was ready to take whatever life threw at me if it meant being with you.

(O)That’s how it was for me. I didn’t care what anyone thought about my relationship with Merig Senior. I was so in love with him, I didn’t think he cared for me.

(Msr)I honestly thought the same, but something about Orla drew me to her.

(K)That’s so beautiful and similar to Merig and I. He was worried that I didn’t care for him romantically because he’s a Fomor, but I honestly didn’t care.

(O)Love always wins, and it cares not about appearances.

(K)That’s very true, but I think my Merig is very handsome.

(O)I think the same way about my Merig, I always cared about his kind heart and that’s what attracted me to him.

(K)We seem to be very similar, hopeless romantic women.

(O)[giggles] So it would seem.

A few moments later, as the group continues talking, the pub door swings open, and Deirdre strolls in, her face radiant with a bright smile, excited to deliver the good news to everyone. She makes her way to the group table, her steps light and carefree. As she approaches, her gaze falls upon Orla and Merig Senior, and her expression falters, confusion etched on her face. However, she quickly recovers, her smile reappearing like a sunrise as her gaze falls upon Cormac. Deirdre navigates the table, her eyes shining with warmth, and reaches Cormac's side. She greets him with a tender kiss, and her smile expands as she sits down and greets the rest of the group.

(DD)Good afternoon, my love, and good afternoon everyone.

(C)Hey, sweetheart, I was wondering if you were going to make it here.

(DD)I’m so sorry, honey, I had to help Grandma Silvia with the flower arrangements. There were a few, but she let me leave as soon as we were finished.

(C)Don’t be sorry, my sunflower, I’m just glad you’re here.

(DD)Me too, and it looks like there are two new faces at the table. It’s nice to meet you.

(O)It’s nice to meet you too, you must be Deirdre.

(DD)Yes, ma’am, that’s me.

(O)I’m Orla and this is my husband, Merig Senior. We’re Barth and Merig’s parents.

(DD)[gaps] Oh my goodness, hello, I’ve heard about what happened to you. I’m so sorry and I’m glad you’re alive. I’m sure Merig and Barth are very happy to see you two.

(M)We are, we’ve been catching up and we’ve told them everything.

(DD)I see, well, welcome to Tara. I hope you love it here. It’s a wonderful place to be.

(O)Oh, we’ve only been here for a few days and we love it already. It’s so peaceful, yet bustling. I love to see that.

(DD)Indeed it is. We’re glad you could make this beautiful city your home, and I’m sure we all look forward to making memories with you both.

(Msr)We look forward to it as well, Miss Deirdre. We miss our boys and we’re happy to be in their lives again.

(DD)I can imagine and this seems like a wonderful reunion. My apologies for the intrusion.

(O)Don’t worry about it, dear, it’s lovely to meet you.

(DD)Likewise, I just came here as promised and have good news, Mic.

(C)What is it, my love?

(DD)Well, I talked to Grandma about the rings and she said she’d be happy to make them for us.

(C)[smiles] That’s wonderful. I can’t wait to see them when they’re finished.

(DD)I asked her how long it would take, and she said it would only take a day or so.

(C)That’s not long at all, I’m really excited.

(DD)Me too, but uh, there’s something else.

(C)Is everything okay?

(DD)[smiles] Everything is perfect, my love. I have something important to tell you all and I hope it will make you happy, Mic.

(C)What is it, sweetheart?

(DD)Here, give me your hands.

(C)Okay…So what do you want to tell me?

(DD)Well, I went to see Nessa the other day, and I told her I wasn’t feeling well and she gave me a check-up, and well…

(C)What’s wrong, are you okay?

(DD)I’m perfectly fine. In fact, I got some really good news from her.

(C)...And?

(DD)[smiles] Cormac…I’m pregnant.

(C)...[smiles] Are you serious?

(DD)I wouldn’t lie to you, my love.

(C)Oh my god, I can’t believe it! I’m going to be a father!

(DD)That’s right, my love, we’re going to have a family.

(C)Then we’re definitely getting married

(DD)Absolutely, I can’t wait.

(K)[gasp] Oh my god, you’re pregnant! I’m so happy for you!

(A)Congratulations, Deirdre!

(B)Congrats you two, you’ll be wonderful parents along with Kate and Merig.

(G)That’ll be one more tiny goblin running about and causing chaos.

(M)[chuckles] As if we need more chaos around here. But I’m happy for you, Cormac.

(L)Yeah, that’s wonderful news. I’m sure you’re excited.

(C)Words can’t even describe how happy I am. This means we have to make some changes at home.

(DD)Oh, I don’t want to cause any inconvenience at home.

(C)Deirdre, it’s not an inconvenience at all, my love. You’re the focus and none of the changes in our home will be a bother either. I’ll be as accommodating as I need to be for you.

(DD)Only if you insist, my love, I'll do what I need to so I can take stress off of you.

(C)You’re more important, my sunflower, we have a lot to prepare for.

(K)And if you need help at all, just come to me, hon.

(O)I can help as well, I don’t mind at all.

(DD)Thank you so much, I do appreciate it.

(Msr)Congratulations to you both.

(C)Thank you, sir.

(Msr)Well, I think that's about everyone in your group that we’ve met.

(B)Sarah is the only one you haven’t met yet. I love that woman very much, after all she’s done for me. I’m actually supposed to be taking her out for a day so we can spend it together. We’ve just recently started living together, as I mentioned before, and I promised her a day when it’s just her and me to celebrate.

(O)That sounds so exciting. We’ve enjoyed all the stories you’ve all told us. But I think we’ve worked up an appetite, don’t you think?

(M)Yeah, I think I’m pretty famished, the food here is great, you’ll love it.

(K)I think I speak for everyone when I say, it’s true.

(A)Sherry is a wonderful cook, and while we’re eating, I can tell you about mine and Larry’s love story.

(O)Oh, I would love to hear it, I bet it’s romantic.

(EM)I’m up for some more stories as well, also it’s very nice to meet you, Deirdre. I’m Emerald, and I’m the newest recruit in the guards.

(DD)Oh hello, it’s so nice to meet you, another woman in the group. We’re going to have a lot of fun, I’m sure. We love to spend time with Ash and Kate, and you’ll love Sarah as well. She’s a sweetheart.

(EM)I look forward to it. I’m ready to eat some food, first.

(G)Same, I’ll go talk to Sherry, just let me know what you all are hungry for.

(A)Are you sure? I can always do it.

(G)You always do it, I’ll take the liberty of doing it.

(K)Sounds like the perfect plan.

(M)Agreed, there’s so much to talk about with Mom and Dad.

(B)Oh yeah, we might be here till dinner.

(O)We don’t mind, we just want to spend time with our sons and get to know you all more.

(K)Alright, let’s celebrate Deirdre’s good news. Congratulations to you both.

(DD)Thank you. I can’t wait for my belly to grow as big as yours, Kate.

(K)[giggles] It’s a beautiful thing, Deirdre, let’s all get comfy. I’m hungry as well.

Gordo takes charge, effortlessly orchestrating the meal service as he retrieves each person's desired dish. With a warm smile, he makes his way to the bar, where he relays the orders to Sherry, who nods knowingly, her eyes sparkling with familiarity. The group spends the rest of the afternoon immersed in convivial conversation, savoring their meals and the company of Orla and Merig Senior. Laughter and stories flow freely, bridging the years lost, as they reconnect and strengthen their bonds. As the day winds down, the group reluctantly bids each other farewell, making their way home for dinner and a well-deserved rest.
