After he woke up the first thing he did was order his worker drones to gather the mana stones and bring them in front of his door. Since that order would take a while to get carried out he went for a shower to wake himself up. That shower might be his favorite addition to his base so far, it was just so comforting and warm. And half an hour later when he had finished showering and putting on some clean clothes he opened the door to his base.

In front of him laid a beautiful pile of mana stones. He ordered the worker drones to get them all into his storage room since he would take a look at them later. Then he went back to his couch, laid down, And ordered his scout drone that was flying towards civilization to connect to the screen.

The Tv screen turned on and he saw grassland, huge wide grassland. It appeared the drone was going through one of the grasslands that were outside of the forest he was now in. In the distance of the grassland he could see one of the rural villages he had passed on his hiking trip. Then he got a little excited; A village! he yelled out.

He had totally forgotten about the rural villages. He quickly ordered both drones to go towards the rural village. The village itself only had about 30 buildings or so. It had a central plaza with a tree in the middle of the village. He remembered from him overnighting in the village on his hiking trip that most of the buildings were houses.

As the drones got closer though he started noticing there were a few things wrong. First of all a-lot of the buildings looked like they,d sustained some damage. He even saw one building that had been half burnt down.

He grew a bit nervous at seeing all the damage to the buildings. Just in his he ordered his worker drone to stay back at a safe distance for now. His scout drone would go into the village to see what was happening.

As the scout drone was flying through the village he noted that it seemed very abandoned. He had not seen one person or even animal. Eventually deciding to go into one of the houses to see if his drone could find anything that might hint towards what happened in this desolate village.

He ordered his worker drone to go to the scout drone to make it act as the scout drone's hands. He then made the worker drone fly beneath the scout drone. The worker drone looking as if it was the scout drone's lower body and the scout drone looking like the head. He would keep the drones flying this way in the village, if he then found anyone they would see a vaguely humanoid robot.

He decided to enter one of the less damaged houses, making the drones just bust through the window to the living room. The drones now inside the house's living room looked around. The living room was a mess, he could see ripped up pillows and dents in the walls. Not to mention the blood that was all over the floor and even on some walls. He ordered his drones to search for anything that might have a clue to what did this.

As he kept half an eye on the tv screen he started thinking about what possibly could have happened in this village.

A few minutes of ransacking the first floor of the house later. He turned up empty on anything that could help him explain this. So instead he made the drones go upstairs to search up there for any clues. And right as his drones entered the first room on the second floor he heard a clicking noise. And then a voice spoke to the drone;

Turn around and dont move! i dont know why you’re here but. i-ll i-ll i,ll shoot! I really will! So turn around slowly!

Jake was in shock for a few seconds not knowing what to do in this unexpected situation. Then he ordered his drones to spin around slowly and he made the worker drone stick up its hands in the air. What he saw in front of him surprised him even more than his drones being held at gunpoint.

A young girl probably around 10 or 12 years old was pointing a gun towards his drone, her long brown hair was looking messy and dirty. He could see both fear and a hint of sadness in the girls eyes.

Now he didn’t want his drones to get shot, in fact he,d rather talk to the girl about what happened. The girl clearly also didn’t know what to do no since she wasn’t moving or telling him to do anything else. She was just staring at his drones in fear.

Jake realized he would first show that he had no hostile intentions. But he couldn’t speak through his drones. In fact his drones couldn’t even produce sounds. Thinking of what he could do in a bit of a panic he did the first thing he thought of. Making the worker drones arms form a heart shape to the girl.

Denise was terrified right now, she had been hiding in her closet just moments earlier. She had been abandoned by the other villagers and been left behind.

Her parents had died 2 days after the system had appeared. The past few days she had just been hiding in her room in the closet. She had managed to find a gun her dad had kept in the house just in case they had ever needed it.

She had not eaten any food for 2 days now since the villagers had taken all the rations when they left. And then just as she was waiting in fear in her closet she had heard the shattering of glass downstairs.

Her body had immediately frozen up in fear and she quickly listened to any possible sounds she could hear from downstairs. After a few minutes she had started hearing sounds of something looking through the floor downstairs, maybe searching for food or something else that was left behind. Or maybe it was just some nosy monster.

In any case she probably had to fear for her life. But if she stayed here she would eventually be found and possibly be killed.

After all, the group of raiders that had attacked her village 2 days after the system had appeared had shown her that there were enough crazy and greedy humans out there drunk on power. Even here far away from the big cities.

She still remembered her parents dying to a ball of fire one of the raiders had thrown at her. Her parents had taken the hit for her, allowing her to run away before the other villagers stepped in to drive away the raiders.

She hadn’t been able to do anything about it, all because of her stupid class awakening later than others! Her parents had died and she had been abandoned. She had cried a-lot over the past two days.

And although the system stopped her from having a mental breakdown it couldn’t help with the sadness she felt from losing one's parents and then being left behind by everybody she knew.

If only her class had awakened earlier just like the others. They had quickly figured out among the villagers that not everybody awakened a class. Her parents not having had any initially just like her.

Some people only awakened later on and some didn’t at all. Since her class hadn’t awakened for 3 days everybody thought she would never awaken and so she had been left behind when the others left for the big city.

And a day after everybody had left her to fend for herself in the village she had awoken to her class; Psychic. And now this had happened!?

She slowly opened the closet, making sure to not make any noise that could alert whatever was downstairs. She would wait behind the door on the first room upstairs till either they left or they entered the room and she would kill them.

When she saw the door opening a while later she trembled. This was it, she would kill whatever stepped through that door and right when she was about to shoot at whatever it was. Her eyes went wide, what stood in front of her right now was a vaguely humanoid robot. It was 2 floating metal balls with green lines going all over them. One ball had four mechanical arms and was bigger than the other metal ball.

She quickly touched one of the drones for not even a second so she could gain some info from her skill. Her skillold her the robot was actually made of 2 separate drones that were the creation of another person. Knowing killing this robot would not result in her being safe but instead by probably being hunted by whoever had made this robot. She decided to not destroy the robot with her gun right away. Instead she went for a different approach.

Turn around and dont move! i dont know why you’re here but. i-ll i-ll i,ll shoot! I really will! So turn around slowly!

She knew that didn’t sound very intimidating at all, especially with her stutter. But nevertheless the robot froze and stood still for a while, then it started turning around slowly. Denise got a closer look at the drone that acted as the head. A metal ball with a big camera lens was now looking straight at her.

Denise didn’t really know what to do now since she hadn’t expected to not be able to kill whatever had stepped through. But then the robot did something that made Denise's jaw drop a little.

It made a heart shape out of its arms? Does it mean to show it would do no harm? NO denise! Don't fall for it, its probably a trick to make you lower your guard before it kills you! Stay on your toes, you have seen what happened to the people that let down their guards in front of the raiders.

She held her gun up pointed at the creature. Since whoever was controlling these drones hadn’t said anything yet but only moved the drones arms to show her a heart. She quickly assumed the drone couldn’t speak. So instead she went for a questioning approach.

Float up and down if you are watching me right now through the drone whoever you are Denise said to the drone.

The drone head flew up and down.

Alright so somebody is watching me through the drones and controlling them. Thats something at least.

Float up and down if you cant speak through the drone denise said to the drone again.

And again the drone head floated up and down.

Are you nearby? The drone didn’t float up and down this time. Although Denise didn’t believe whoever was controlling the drone right away, her mind reading skill indeed told her there was nothing else nearby. So she relaxed just a little. Stil not taking her eyes or her gun off the drone though.

Then the drone with arms pointed to a piece of paper on a desk near the room. And then it moved it arms as if it were writing something. Denise immediately understood what it meant. You want a pen and piece of paper to write? The drone head nodded up and down.

Denise still didn’t let down her guard but at least she believed the drone wouldn’t harm her right away. She slowly moved to her room still pointing the gun out towards where the drones were. The drones didn’t follow her though and just stayed in that room in the same spot. When she returned a bit later with a pen and a piece of paper. She handed the to the drone. And the drone immediately started writing

What happened in this village and why are you alone?

Denise stared at the question on the paper and took a moment to think of her response. Deciding it wouldn’t matter if she hid what happened since it wouldn’t help her situation at all anyways, she told the drone about how her village was attacked by raiders, how she lost her parents and how afterwards they thought she wouldn’t get a class which was why she had been abandoned.

Jake After the girl finished her story he felt conflicted about returning to the city. His original plan had always been to return to the city as soon as he could. Now though he felt that he was actually kind of better off, out here in the wild. After all he could level up his skills and get loads of mana stones out here.

He did feel bad for the girl though, and if he could he wanted to help her. The question was if she even wanted his help or would accept it. He could offer her to bring her to his hideout, he wouldn’t force her though. It wouldn’t surprise him at all if she had major trust issues after everything that had happened to her.

Eventually he just decided to make the offer to the girl but also tell her there was no problem if she wouldn’t accept. He would also offer her some help if she refused anyways. He would send all off his leftover rations towards the girl.

So he made his drone write out the message on paper; If you want i could probably get some drones to escort you to where im at. Its a pretty safe place and you wont have to worry about others attacking you. I wont force you to accept this and if you don't want to i,ll just send you some food.

After the girl was done reading his message he watched her eyes go wide for a bit. Then she took a few minutes to think his offer over. And after thinking it over she told him she wouldn’t go because she just couldn’t trust him at the moment. And Jake accepted her choice, he would probably make the same decision if he were her.

In the current situation accepting his offer was like the equivalent of stepping into a van that offered candy.

At that moment he felt the house shake a little. The girl looked up right away with a terrified look in her eyes. Jake who didn’t know what was going on quickly made his drone write to ask the girl why she was so afraid.

What is that tremor? Is that bad?
