14 - Nuclear power

When Jake woke up the next morning he felt kind of groggy. And whenever he felt groggy or tired in the morning his favorite thing to do was to nobody,s surprise, take a nice long hot shower.

When he arrived at the bathroom and tried opening the door though.. It was locked! Now he felt even groggier! He really wanted that shower! And as if his companion had read his mind, he heard the shower stop.

Then he remembered she could actually read his mind! So he quickly apologized in his mind and told her to take her time, he would just do his basic tasks like order the drones to bring all the mana stones to his storage and checking up on if his civilization duo drone was bringing back seeds for food.

When he was done he returned back to the bathroom for his long-awaited shower. And it was all he needed to get out of his groggy mood and turn back into the rational yet cheery man he normally was.

Now that the basic tasks and his morning routine were out of the way though, it was time to pull up his task list again.

1. Set up the electricity to mana system

2. Enhance and enlarge his base

3. Set up defenses for his base

4. Set up an internet connection for his Base

For today he wanted to try and set up the electricity to mana system and start working on enhancing his living space. Luckily for him, he now had tons of mana stones to work with.

And he even had an idea for the electricity-to-mana system. Yesterday he had found a great solution in his catalogs.

Now he would need enormous amounts of sustainable electricity. And his waterwheels outside the base were just not good enough. And thus he came to the most efficient and best solution that came after the waterwheel. A nuclear reactor.

Now how would he make this work you ask? Well since with building mode he could create any material he could also create radioactive materials, although more mana expensive with little radioactive material he could produce a lot of electricity. And with tons of electricity tons of mana.

Now don't ask him how something created by his skill could eventually give more mana than it took to create, it was something he didn’t know about either. He just chalked it up to his technology being superior to his skill mana use efficiency or mana and energy having different rules. Maybe a certain amount of atoms wasn’t directly related to how much mana it took to create. But a certain amount of atoms could produce a certain amount of energy which could then be converted to mana.

So maybe the mana to atom ratio was a-lot cheaper than mana to energy ratio. But the atom to electricity ratio was a-lot better than the other two ratios.

Eventually just confusing himself too much he decided to just go with that weirdly difficult explanation and decided it was just mana having new and unknown rules in terms of what it could to and how it was converted.

To be quite fair a-lot was still unclear about the rules of mana and the system in general.

Anyways a nuclear reactor was something he could create, although more compact and efficient than current earth reactors. Since he had access to futuristic technology now. Futuristic technology apparently having way more compact and safe reactors. Now it would still be very expensive to build a reactor.

It would take 10k MP to build his reactor and even more to actually design and hook everything up in what would be his reactor room.

“Well, no time like the present so let's just get started” He always been complimented by the people around him on being able to just get to work instead of postponing it. Then again he really enjoyed getting to work in this case, so was it really work if it was fun?

He took the elevator to the second floor, entered build mode, and started working on the room that would house the reactor. Now with all the mana stones he had saved up and natural MP capacity, he had about 16K MP to work with. Setting aside 10K for his reactor he got to work on the actual room.

The reactor itself would be about 2 and a half meters tall and 2 meters wide. So the appropriate room would need to be about 3 meters tall and 4 meters wide. He would make the walls out of tungsten which was not a futuristic metal unlike some metals he now had access to. But still one of the stronger ones he had access to at a price he could afford.

After he had made the walls he covered the walls again in smooth white stone with green painted lines on the walls. Just for that clean white-green aesthetic.

Although the tungsten was affordable it was still expensive to him, costing him 2000MP for 25 centimeter (10 inch) walls. The walls being thick enough to protect the reactor from a small to smaller-medium sized explosion or attack.

Then he hooked everything up to the reactor which had its own inbuilt safety measures so he wouldn’t have to worry about that at least.

Now he just had to make some uranium rods and get his worker drones to insert them into the reactor. Then every time the rod is drained he could just use the old uranium rod as material for the new uranium rod, drastically decreasing the uranium rod's price.

Every uranium rod right now without any material to help with the cost needing about 100MP to produce. And since for this reactor, he needs eight rods, he spends another 800MP, coming out at still having 3200MP left to spend for the rest of the day.

After taking a safe distance and summoning a fifth worker drone to help him with chores around the house and stuff such as putting uranium rods in reactors.

After the drone is done and everything is set up he pulls the switch on activating the reactor. A nice humming sound can be heard as it powers up, and when it fully powers up the soft humming just continues in a soothing rhythm.

Jake grinned at his new power source, not only will this be able to power his base but all the excess power of which there is way too much will be able to be converted into mana via his mana generator.

Quickly he builds the electricity to mana converter for another 3K MP leaving him with 200MP which he uses to make some mana cables and electricity cables to hook everything up. When he is done he tests out everything in his build mode one last time to make sure everything works before he applies it to reality.

And after double checking some stuff and adding some extra protection on the mana cables he applies everything to reality.

As the process is finishing he walked over to his growing tables, his new worker drone flying behind him. As it would be around him and the base a-lot and he would basically start using that drone as his hands and feet for everything physically tasking or dirty, he had made it follow him around.

Now before he got rid of his waterwheels and got his reactor started on powering his base he wanted to plant some seeds first.

The drones that were returning from civilization wouldn’t arrive for at least another hour though, just when he was deciding on what to do next Denise walked up to him from behind.

Denise wanted to figure out her skills, she had been too sad and scared to test or try out anything before this moment aside from some very basic testing and reading of their information.

But if she wanted to stay here she would need to make herself useful. Just her information gathering skills alone would probably make her a good asset to Jake the man who saved her. But she didn’t want to take any risks so she had decided to get stronger. Since if she got stronger not only would she be more useful and thus be allowed to stay at this hidden base for a roof and some comfort.

She would also be able to get the strength to protect herself in the case anything ever happened to her. And so she was going to ask the boy for some help in killing creatures around the forest, she basically knew nothing about the forest or the monsters after all.

And even though she wasn’t an intellectual genius she was definitely among the smarter ones when it came to people. So she had enough sense to know that just rushing into a forest with basically no preparation would be a very bad idea. Plus she wasn’t afraid to admit she was kind of scared to go into a forest filled with monsters alone..

Even if the man couldn’t come with her, he could at least have some drones accompany her. Thus here she was, in front of the man. Both of them staring at each other in silence for a good ten seconds before the girl started talking.

“I want to go out and level up”

The man looked at her in a bit of amazement for a few seconds before he smiled at her and nodded.

“If you give me some time i can create you some weapons and get some drones to accompany you, but right now I'm fresh out of mana”

She just nodded and walked away again, deciding to spend her free time on practicing her skills some more.

Jake was pretty surprised initially at that the girl actually wanted to go out and fight in the forest. He had expected a twelve year old girl like her to just hide in his base and stay safe. Not go out on purpose and endanger herself to get stronger, it wasn’t like she could use drones to kill without being in danger himself.

He had originally thought of the girl as someone he would need to protect, now though he was changing his opinion just a little, not by much, but at least he now knew she had a stronger mentality than he had expected. And a strong mentality meant a lot for a person.

A few hours later when his mana had recovered he summoned another 2 worker drones, coming down to a total of 7 worker drones out of his maximum amount of 10.

Then at the girl's request, he created a few melee weapons she could use with telekinesis and a pistol. Then he created a few automatic weapons for the worker drones and gave the worker drones some ammo, he had figured out the worker drones could use guns and other weaponry as well.

Basically giving the girl two bodyguards that could use two automatic weapons at the same time. Which was more than the average human body could. Not to mention the drones were surprisingly accurate at least way better than he had expected. Now they weren’t perfect but they were close to being perfect.

As the girl set off on her quest to start killing monsters he focused on his growing tables. Since the drone with the seeds had finally returned and immediately set back off again towards the village, he could finally start growing food, and have a nice meal by the end of the day.

He would also be able to test how well that electricity-to-mana convertor really worked since it had been cheaper than expected at 3K mana. But hey who knew, maybe the conversion process was pretty simple or the electricity price really high to explain the surprisingly low cost.

As his worker drone got to work on planting things he walked off again, thinking of what else to build in the future. He would definitely need to start making some proper defenses soon, who knew when stronger monsters would start showing up or maybe even some murderous raiders or other bad people. But still before that, he wanted to focus on really finishing his living space, especially on upgrading his already amazing shower.

As he was fantasizing about all his future additions a scout drone that had been on the lookout for dangers sent him a distressed signal and visual of a group of raiders about a days away from him walking in his current direction.
