Focusing again on the task at hand, he started directly commanding the worker drone and scout drone what to do. It was finally time to get some information on what was currently happening with the earth.
As the drone slowly flew closer, making sure not to get spotted right away. He slowly directed it towards one of the internet cafes they had. Now his plan was to just use his drone to look at the news reports over the last week.
Deciding it wouldn’t matter if he was noticed by now he just made his drones fly inside. At the counter of the internet cafe, a man looked up and weirdly enough, actually shot his drones an angry glare. But instead of the man taking any action he just let the drones fly by towards the pc,s that were actually connected to the internet.
He used his drone to type in his bank details and paid for 2 hours of internet for now. He still had a lot of money in his bank account from his freelance engineering. Which as it turned out was a more lucrative job than one might expect, there were some big companies out there that would also pay big as long as you fit the bill.
Jake took a bit more of a comfortable seat on his lovely couch, Which he would definitely exchange for an even better one after he was done later today. Since with the level of new tech, he had also gotten an upgrade in terms of furniture and things available. And he couldn’t deny he was excited to try out those futuristic comforts.
Then he spent 3 hours just watching all the news of the past week. The first day had still been kind of calm, the second day mild riots and other chaotic incidents happened. But from the third day, all hell broke loose all over the world. Total anarchy everywhere one went, the criminal world stirring up an uproar now that the government didn’t have enough power to enforce their rules anymore. Since now everyone had skills and power, so the police weren’t anything special anymore to criminal gangs.
He felt kind of sad really, as soon as everybody got power in their hands society collapsed and everybody started to hunt each other down for power, fame and riches.
Then he came along something that really made him shiver a bit. He discovered not everyone awakened classes, and those that did didn’t awaken them all at the same time. For now, it seemed like a totally random thing that just happened to people. Then again no research had been done in the past week. Not that there was anyone to do the research or really having the chance to have done it.
But even just in this first week, all the classless people had immediately undergone major discriminatory treatments from awakeners. They were basically treated like slaves really. Now about 1 in 5 people awakened to a class. The other 80% of humanity didn’t have classes yet.
But even so, everybody who had classes was already holding their power over others, especially above the ones with no classes. This made him understand why this internet cafe owner had looked at him like that. Clearly, the man was classless and was angry at the awakeners.
But not because of petty reasons, well, maybe for some petty reasons. But mainly because he would just be abused and mistreated by every awakener he ran into. So why would he like them? And since these drones were clearly an awakeners skill product the man gave him some nasty looks.
Jake knew that soon the man would probably run into some other awakener that would beat him up just for the looks he gave. And the man wouldn’t be able to do anything about it, this made him sad really.
He had always known humanity was corrupt. No matter how depressing that thought was humanity was corrupt and that was a fact. But he had always believed the majority to be good people. Now as things turned out, the majority was apparently just repressing themselves or something.
Or maybe people were just getting swept up in all this chaos of society collapsing and once things calmed down a bit, stuff would go back to how they were before. Except now they had monsters and what were basically superpowers as new parts of their society.
When he was done catching up and processing everything that had happened.he made his drones leave the internet cafe to go find plantable vegetable seeds. A town, even a smaller one like this with only about 500 houses would have seeds that he could use somewhere.
He ordered his drones to just either pay for the seeds and if that turned out to be impossible or plain impractical, he would have his drones steal all the seeds he needed and then bring them back to base for him to plant.
Now that he had the town dealt with, and probably the food problem dealt with by tomorrow morning. He could focus on the other tasks he needed to do. Quickly making a small list for himself so he wouldn’t forget.
1. Get to know the girl
2. Set up food system
3. Test out program skill
4. Set up electricity to mana system
5. Enhance and enlarge base
6. Set up defenses for base
7. Set up internet for his Base

Deciding this was enough to focus on for a while he decided to just start out at task number 1. Finally, get to know the girl.
As he and the girl sat down on the couch and stared awkwardly at each other for a minute he decided to just go for it. “Hi, so i'm Jake? We haven't introduced each other yet and i thought right now would be a good time, since we're both not busy and well rested now.
The girl just nodded at him, well at least she gave a reaction which was honestly more than i was expecting.
“Name Denise” The girl said. A short and simple reaction, Jake grinned a little bit at that thought.
“Well Denise nice to meet you, as we both already know I saved you, and you told me what happened to you. I think it would be fine for you to live here with me for a while until we get things figured out. Or if we like the arrangement just keep living together”
The girl just nodded again “I will build your room later today, and I'll even add in a separate bathroom so we can avoid.. Any accidental privacy violations. Before we go on though i would like to know a bit more about what your class is. And we might have to discuss how you are going to progress from here on out. Because even if i saved you, i won't be a charity either. So i need to know what i could use you for.
Again the girl just nodded, then she did something he hadn’t even known was possible.
She showed him her status screen.
In front of him had appeared a window just like his own. Except the information on it was vastly different.
Name: Denise Arenheart
Age: 12
Class: Psychic
Level: 1
Mana: 200/200
XP: 0/300
Skills:
Psychometry level 1
Telekinesis level 1
Mind reading level 1
Traits:
More mana III
Huh, she was a psychic? And her skills explain a lot. That's why she looked at me weirdly when i gave her the last portion of food. He felt his cheeks heat up a bit, but just forced himself to act like nothing was wrong.
Still though, this seems like a very diverse and useful class. From what i have seen so far all her skills are basically psychic abilities. Which means as she levels up she willl gain both a useful and diverse skill set. Even just now i could use her for information gathering or deciding if people can be trusted or not. Which in this quickly apocalyptic-turning society will definitely be of great help.
But something that caught his eye was both her trait and her mana. She quite literally had double the mana he had had at level one. And she had a level III trait? This girl clearly had potential, he was feeling a bit happier with his decision of saving the girl.
Because in all honesty, he had debated with himself ever since he had saved her if it had been the right move. Now though, if she could become his ally. He would have a useful and strong companion. And if he could have someone to entrust his back to. He would be all for that.
“I'm just going to be straight up with you because you will find out what I'm thinking anyway. Your class seems like a useful one and i would like it if we could become companions. I would very much like some company around here in the base since I'm sure otherwise I'd get lonely. But more than that i hope we can become close enough to depend on one another”
The girl gave him a look of surprise before smiling at him and nodding. Clearly agreeing with his thoughts on the matter. Jake nodded and smiled back at her, satisfied with how things turned out.
He wouldn’t force the girl to hunt for now, since even he was still adapting to this new world. And unless he was sure he could protect his new companion from anything out there, he wouldn’t risk her life unless she herself decided to do so.
Now since the food problem was already being solved he decided to just move on to the next thing on his list.
Start checking out his new Program skill. He felt like he wanted to jump around from excitement. He had been putting off testing out his new skill until he got his few main priorities sorted. But now.. It was time!!
He quickly activated the skill and decided to look at its skill info tab!
After taking about 20 minutes to read it all and just sorting out his thoughts on how the skill would work.
Now from what his skill information gave him. To make digital systems he would have to mentally will the skill into the digital components. And then he could start designing the system inside his brain before he would be able to apply it to the actual digital components. It was a bit like how normal coding worked, except instead of typing he could just imagine the lines of code and how it would work and then force the code into the digital components.
But digital programming aside, he could Create and add to ANY system. Which meant he would be able to create things like that universal system. In other words, systems that applied to reality.
Now this was where things got interesting, but also extremely expensive. The creating systems that applied to reality worked in a very different way. Basically he had to will what he wanted the system to do in his head. The skill would the calculate how much mana it would cost for him and tell him the number. If he then decided he would pay the mana price. The skill would design the system for him with all the functions he'd willed into the system.
Now it sounded a bit confusing if he said it like that, but basically, it came down to he mentally told the skill what he wanted and then it gave him a price. If he accepted the price the skill would do all the difficult stuff and quite frankly unknown stuff for him.
The mana price would also scale with how strong the system would be. Something weak like; notifying me when this certain thing happens within 1 meter around me would still cost a lot of mana. But it would cost so so so much less mana than if he wanted a very strong system in place. Like; any enemy within 100 meters of me will be unable to move or attack or something like that.
Overall it sounded like a skill with a very wide range of uses and he would need to do some more tests of what the limits he could make systems do really were. Like just what if he could make a system that automatically threw fireballs at enemies attacking him if he said a certain keyword. Could he just have systems act as automatic turrets or defenses? Or maybe even as automatic shields?
His eyes were practically sparkling at all the ideas, Sadly though after checking how much MP it would cost to create even a most basic system that applied to reality. it turned out that even the lowliest and most useless of systems would cost him 1 million MP to create. Which was something he couldn’t currently afford by a long shot.
Kind of sad at not being able to Program systems that applied to reality yet, he tried to cheer himself up at the reminder that he could now get his elevator working. And maybe after some custom work on one of the scout drones he could add in a speaker and a program that would transfer what he said to the drone’s speaker. Maybe he would be able to speak through a drone this way.
