3. Am I smart now?

3. Am I smart now?

As the sun rose, the birds started to chirp on the branches of trees, which were flowing slowly with the wind. This would seem like every other morning, but there was something different about it, it's not that noticable, but it's there.

Shane woke up early because he wanted to test out his powers before he goes to school. He got out of bed and looked for the chair to begin his expirements.

"Here it is."

Shane placed the chair in the middle of his room and cleared out the stuff near it.

"Okay, here goes nothin."

'Cellphone!'

"Flash!"

His hand glowed a dull grey and a rectangular object appeared in his palm. It had a glass front with a thin film of plastic covering it while it's back was shiny and smooth to the touch.

Shane grinned as he tried to turn it on, but nothing happened.

"What the?"

He tried several times but the only thing that he got was the reflection of his confused face. He sighed and tried to think of the reason why it didn't work.

'The pen I made yesterday worked, did I do something wrong?"

As Shane was immersed in his thoughts, his Mom's voice came from below.

"Shane?! What's taking you so long? You still have school today right?"

"Yeah mom! Just wait a bit, I just woke up."

Shane was pulled back to reality as he hid the chair and the dud cellphone before exiting his room.

[School]

As Shane entered his classroom, he noticed some of his classmated were jittery, as if they were trying to hide something they desperately want to tell. He thought nothing of it and sat on his assigned chair.

A few seconds after he sat down, Clyde entered the classroom with a confused yet serious expression. When he sat down, Shane asked him "why the face" with a wide grin. Clyde opened his mouth and was about to say something when the first period teacher arrived and said "Settle down class"

Clyde stopped for a second before telling Shane that he'll tell him later.

Shane shrugged and stared out the window like usual.

As the teacher discussed about the structure and uses of different chemicals, his words and written work suddenly  glowed and turned solid as it floated in the wind. When Shane turned around to see if his crush was on her seat, his pupils shrank when he saw words and symbols floating in the air as if they were bubbles.

"Clyde, Clyde, do you see floating words?"

Shane nudged Clyde to verify what his eyes were seeing.

"Floating words?"

Clyde scanned the classroom but he didn't see anything. He shook his head and continued to take down notes.

Shane continued to stare at the floating objects as he tried to think of a reason why he was seeing them.

He looked around the room to see if his classmates noticed that glowing words were floating above their heads, but his classmated were completely oblivious to it.

'Am I going crazy?'

As he was about to scratch the back of his head in frustration, the words and symbols suddenly glowed and darted towards his eyes. Shane was horrified when he saw that the floating things were rushing at him that he covered his face with both of his arms in a panic.

His attempt to block wasn't successful though, as the they just passed through his arms like they weren't even there to begin with. As the floating things entered his body, his eyes glazed over and his mind was suddenly filled with information that wasn't there a few moments ago. It just appeared in his mind and it felt like he already knew this a long time ago.

As this was happening in his head, his body was still in the position where it looked like he was scared and was making a cross-like pattern with his arms. His classmates were confused for a moment, but then they all laughed, maybe a bit too much though.

"Okay, that's enough, Shane stop that and listen to the discussion."

The teacher put his book down and raised his voice a bit to break the laughter the students were making.

As the teachers words entered Shane's ears, he sobered up and put his arms down. He said sorry and acted like it was all for show as his classmated continued to laugh and giggle.

The teacher just shook his head and continued on where he left off.

"Okay, so oxygen is..."

As the first period ended and the second one started, glowing words and symbols apperared and rushed directly at Shane's eyes. This time though, he didn't block it with his hands and just let them enter his body as he absored the information they brought with them.

'Ohhhh, this is so weird.'
