16: The Exorbitant Exorcism Fee

"I found a set of my clothes for you. They're placed outside the bathroom. Change into them, and while you're at it, clean up the mess in here."

Chen Yuanshan tapped on the bathroom door and conveyed these instructions before leaving hurriedly.

I washed my pants and underwear in the bathroom, leaving them to air dry. Afterward, I took a refreshing shower. The sticky, sour, and foul-smelling black liquid oozing from my pores was challenging to clean. It took five rounds of shower gel to completely rid myself of it.

Exiting the bathroom clad in a set of gray sportswear left for me, I felt significantly more comfortable. The previous heaviness in my head was gone, and the fatigue in my limbs had dissipated. Now, I was filled with energy, and the alternating sensations of heat and cold were no longer present.

Staring at the scattered excrement on the floor, I felt a mixture of disgust and headache, unsure of how to tackle the cleanup.

Just as I was contemplating my next move, I faintly heard the sounds of a girl sobbing from the adjacent small bedroom. I approached the door and gently pushed it open. Inside, the girl was crying under a blanket, as her mother had yet to return from buying new pants.

Opening the balcony window on the second floor to let some fresh air in, I proceeded to tidy up the first and a half floors of the house. During the cleaning process, I couldn't help but gag, feeling nauseated by my own actions.

Once the cleanup was done, it was already half-past eleven in the morning. Although the smell in the house had considerably lessened, a faint stench of excrement still lingered.

The middle-aged woman, having purchased new pants, entered the Daoist Hall, covering her nose and mouth with her right hand. She cast a strange glance at me before heading towards the second-floor bedroom. I kept my head low, pretending not to notice her.

"Young man, uncontrollable bowel movements could be a sign of colorectal issues. You should get a medical checkup; otherwise, it might lead to cancer. My father had colorectal cancer and passed away."

The kind-hearted woman advised me, then walked briskly upstairs.

On the first floor, I noticed the bloodstains on the genuine leather sofa still existed. I quickly fetched a basin of water from the second floor, found a cloth, and thoroughly wiped away the bloodstains. Coincidentally, at that moment, Chen Yuanshan walked in. Observing me cleaning the sofa, he nodded in approval.

"Master Chen, I didn't expect such a thing to happen. I'm really sorry. I've cleaned the first and a half floors."

I turned around and saw Chen Yuanshan standing by the door, looking at me with satisfaction. I apologized to him sincerely.

"Defecating and passing gas are natural human actions. I understand. Since you've cleaned up, it's fine."

After Chen Yuanshan's brief acknowledgment, he walked back to his desk.

"Master Chen, to make up for my mistake, let me treat you to lunch."

"Thank you for the offer, but I still smell that stench in the air. I can't eat anything right now. You don't need to spend your money. You can leave now, and take that set of clothes with you."

Pointing towards the entrance of the Daoist Hall with a disdainful expression, Chen Yuanshan declined my invitation and picked up an old, yellowed book from the shelf, engrossing himself in its contents.

"Master Chen, you mentioned earlier that...
