“You're such a killjoy.”
An unfamiliar scene played in my mind, clouding my eyes and forcing me to step away from the battle.
A child in uniform was talking to me as I sat on my classroom chair. I could see the leaves of the tree outside the window slowly flutter and fall. They have changed so much in just a small amount of time, turning from a calm and tranquil green to a beautiful loud shade of red.
“I'm telling you, Santa isn't real.” I faced my friend and crossed my arms, it was almost christmas in a month or so and I was having a dumb argument with her. “Do you really still believe that nonsense?”
“Of course I do, I saw him last year, he left gifts for me!” She said, oddly looking too proudly while saying that statement.
“Wasn't that your parents? Do you really believe a person can travel all over the world in that short amount of time? What kind of magic do you think a person would need to do that every year?”
“Why wouldn't it be possible? Magic is real, look at all the magical girls that appeared this past half a century.
“Well… yeah, you got me there. Haha.” I waved my hand across my face, covering my smile. My friend’s innocent and shining eyes brought joy to this meaningless conversation. On second thought, nothing is meaningless.
“So what is your family doing for Christmas this year?”
“Probably gonna eat some chicken and cake, maybe a trip to the mountains, how about you?”
“Shima… It's obvious! I'm gonna train to be a Magical Girl!” Said my friend, her face staining my eyes.
I slammed my hand into my head, knocking the memories out of my view. I stood in a battlefield, facing a formidable and dominating opponent. She was taking no pain from my hits and every strike from her fist sent my feet further down into my grave. But worry not, as the cutest girl around, this is nothing to worry about.
I stood my ground, gazing at the unmoving threat. Ever since I got these powers, I have had superhuman strength, medically impossible regeneration and the magic of a Magical Girl. I am Humanity’s Chosen to change the Magical Girls back to their cute past selves.
“Just you wait, you brute! I will change you for the better.” I charged at her, throwing my wand forward and conjuring a pink sparkling lance. This attack reminds me of that unfitting Magical Girl a couple weeks ago but sometimes cute times call for uncute acts.
I stabbed the lance forward, directly at the chestplate of my enemy. But in a quick motion, she stepped to the side and grabbed my lance. She pulled the lance away from me, pulling me close to her before punching me with her free hand.
My head bobbled back and the lance exploded to sparkles, knocking us both away. I tumbled onto the ground, rolling away and she was pushed back, her solleret grinding against the floor. I raised my hand up, ”Tangled Beauty!” and shot multiple strands of light at her. The strands wrapped around her, sticking her limbs to her body.
“Lesson One!” I got up from the ground and approached the incapacitated Magical Girl. “Have some class and make your attacks more flashy. Your brutal ways of punching and grabbing are that of a savage. Look at me I'm carrying on the legacy of the old Magical Girls. The perfect cute primogenitors.”
“Lesson Two!”
“Shut up.” Interrupted the villain.
“What?” I got close to her, my beautiful eyes reflecting back at me, cute.
“Two million, three hundred and four. Forty two. The very first proper invasion of monsters. The portals rained down, killing so many people.”
“Those Forty two Primogenitors all died saving the lives of the people. They attacked with your technique, charging up colorful and dazzling beams of light, preaching about the power of friendship and love. They were heroes. But times have changed, as the monsters get stronger and more frequent, we magical girls become stronger and stronger. Gone are the days of the protectors of mankind, dying in groups while showing off their ‘class’ and ‘flash’.”
“Hmph but those are the cutest part.”
“Cute?”
“Yeah, when a Magical Girl gives her life away trying to save the innocent. The final part of her cute life as she sacrifices herself to fend off the monsters. The cute way she tells her allies to run away and to save themselves as she gets stabbed, slashed, and devoured by the jaws of the monsters. Her loud cries of despair as she experiences the final wonders of a Magical Girl, the heroic end of any legacy.”
“Is that so?” She snapped the strands with ease and dashed towards me, her body tuning to a metal blur. That was certainly flashy.
I jumped back, trying to avoid her arms from reaching me but she just went past me, ignoring me. I turned my head quickly at her and saw her jump towards her spear stuck on the ground. As she grabbed the spear, I jumped into the air and propelled myself away by shooting a beam of light at her. I tossed myself on top of a building and I began running through the rooftops. Using my nimbleness I obtained from my old dancing classes and the added help of extreme superhuman strength, I jumped across the rooftops with ease, running away from the Magical Girl of Protection.
“Idol’s Spotlight!” I swung my wand to the air and conjured a cute Pine Grosbeak. The bird was pink and was the second cutest little button around, I was still first. The bird flew high up into the air and opened its eyes, linking its vision with mine, giving me a bird’s-eye view of the rooftops.
The armored knight jumped up high into the air, leaving behind a trail of fire. She landed on the rooftop far away from me and began running after me. I kept jumping across the rooftops, trying to gain as much distance as I could, waiting for the perfect moment.
She clasped her hands together and slowly pulled out a huge metal rod from her gauntlets. She threw the rod high up into the air, launching it hundreds of feet away, it flew in fast speeds leaving behind a trail of flames and shining light. I switched my vision back to my eyes and I gazed into the sky and saw the rod floating above my head, it was like a second sun way above the sky. Then from the corner of my eye, she leaped high into the air, launching herself like a missile after the rod in extreme speeds. To me she moved slowly in the air but I knew she was as fast as a plane.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
I jumped and rolled down to the streets, running down the empty evacuated road, clutching my wand tightly. “Meteor…” A thick rod of iron slammed in front of me, cracking the road and sending a wave of flames, pushing me back. “Slam!” She fell from the sky behind me, her body falling like a meteor, destroying and melting the ground, creating a massive crater at the center of her impact.
I spun my body around, making sure to not trip. She dashed out of the crater, swinging her spear at me, its flaming and sharp edge cutting through air and into the side of my neck. “One!” Her arm was pulled back by a big long string of yarn. The blade struck my chin, slicing and cauterizing my wound instantly. “Two-Three!” Two strings pulled her legs back, forcing her to stab the spear to the ground to gain stability.
“Four, Five, Six-Seven-Eight-Nine!”
Two strings pulled her back and her non spear wielding hand to the ground, the remaining four strings pulled her pinky, middle finger, index finger and thumb off the spear at the same time. She fell to the ground, her spear left standing up with its blade pointing to the sky, how poetic.
I grabbed the spear in a hurry, its surface burning my skin and flesh instantly. I then tossed the spear into the window of the building next to us, making it hard for her to get the spear. She pushed herself up and ran at me, tackling me to the ground and slamming her hands at me.
She began plummeting me with punches. Her strength breaking my bones and tearing my muscles. With every punch, flames scattered from my burning mushy body, her fist caving in my flesh and breaking my bones.
As she brutalizer me senselessly it was time for me to launch my ultimate move filled to the brim with all of the magic I have been charging up.
“Fill it in and let it BURST! My wand began to shine as glimpses of rainbows began to escape. She shoved her gauntlet inside my mouth, its extreme heat filling my throat. All of my taste buds were fried and from the immense heat the saliva in my mouth turned to steam. She dug her fingers into my mouth and ripped off my lower jaw, preventing any more of my voice from coming out. Tears stopped coming out of my eyes, they evaporated as soon as they left.
I raised my wand into the air and she grabbed it, peeled it off my hands and tossed it to her back far away, stopping my body from touching it anymore. My legs struggled, flailing and kicking around from the pain. She got up and stomped on my legs, breaking them and leaving me with only a barely connected burnt arm. She marched towards the planted rod and lifted it into her shoulder.
She then turned back to me slowly, the temperature increasing with every step. “You're annoying to deal with.” She slammed the rod onto me, toasting and reducing what remained of my corpse into ash. “Goodbye crying child.” She touched the burning rod and reduced it back to nothingness.
“Tweet Tweet.”
“Huh? A bird? With very feminine eyes… That's uhh, creepy.”
Upon achieving a dominant and brutal victory, Chiasa grabbed her spear and left the broken melted streets, hoping to escape having to pay the damages she caused, Additionally she had a fear of birds ever since the accident that happened all the way in another country, it was a flightful goose attack, she still wakes up in the middle of the night thinking about.
All that was left in the rapidly cooling down street was the bird and a Magical Girl’s wand.
----------------------------------------
“Nooooooo!” A girl jolted awake, her head immediately hitting something. “Ough.” She rolled to the side as she clenched her head in pain. “Tweet Tweet.” The beautiful singing of a bird entered her ears, her mind felt at peace.
“Tweet Tweet.” Something hard fell on her stomach forcing her to open her eyes and stop her rest. “A wand.” She grabbed the wand, a pink magical girl wand decorated with ribbons and hearts. She glanced around, seeing the park bench she was laying under some seconds ago and a exotic bird on top of it.
The wand stuck to her hand, wrapping its ribbons around her arm. “Help.” She slammed her wand and by association her hand to the ground. She continued to flail around, having woken up somewhere strange and full of confusion.
“Tweet Tweet.” The bird got up and flew near her face, forcing her to get her act together and to stop flailing. “Tweet Tweet.” The bird sang a beautiful and cheerful tune, its eyes staring directly at the girl. “Tweet Tweeet! Tweet-Tweet.” The girl stopped her reckless actions and slowly bopped her head, hearing and healing from the wonders of nature’s voice. She opened her eyes, ready to gaze at the beautiful bird songstress.
“What the hell! Freaky eyes.” Frightened by the unnatural and oddly attractive eyes of the birds, the girl yet again shamefully began to flail around. “Get this off me!” The ribbons dug deeper into her flesh and slowly expanded up her arm. “Aaah!” Then suddenly. Slapped!
She looked in terror at the feathered being behind her assault. One of the wings of the bird just slapped her in the face and weirdly it hurt. The pain was way stronger than the typical strength of a bird slap usually experienced by everyday people. “Tweet Tweet.” Listen to me, said the bird in its own language of chirps. Calm down and listen.
The girl stopped everything, having decided on one thing as she looked at the bird land near her feet. She swung her foot back and punted the bird away. The bird flew away and landed on the hard stone floor. The ribbons were now wrapping around her neck and chest, she was out of options on what to do so she decided to let it be.
This girl is a familiar person named Ayami Shima, the identity devoured by Cossette. Thousands thoughts filled her mind as the ribbons wrapped around her mouth, stomach and other arm. Where is Cosette? Why was I under a park bench? How many days of my arcade king of hill streak did I miss? Why that bird look funky?”
“Mrghh!” She let the last remaining voice inside her lungs as the ribbons covered her entirely.
When suddenly it happened. The ribbons covered her from hair to toe nails and she flashed an attractive rainbow gradient. The ribbons vanished into the sky, filling the background and her surroundings with stars and flowers.
"My eyes!" She was covered in a blinding light that filled hope and wonders for all to see. She waved her hands over her eyes trying to scatter the glitters away. Magical bubbles gathered on her wrist and exploded into girl power and shrapnel.
Two golden rings with threads that defied gravity appeared in her wrists. Ribbons circled around her before slamming into her chest and pushing her off to the wayside. The ribbons exploded leaving a beautiful one colored dress and a small amount of fire on her.
As she rolled on the ground, soft vocals popped up into the middle of her mediocre transformation. Vines shot up from the cement floor and wrapped around her feet holding her in place as the fire spread.
The leaves bloomed into flowers and turned into beautiful green high heels with gems plastered onto it, increasing its pawn shop value by half a percentage.
Lighting struck her dress, adding more fluffiness and cotton inside her dress. The remaining amount of rainbow gradient in her hair elongated it and changed it to a beautiful color of tangerine
Numbers and metal squares and triangles floated around her. A sense of sci-fi machinery was injected into her, shoving and a singular thigh high on her left foot and none on her right for some odd reason.
A wide brush specifically designed to sell toys danced around her, painting her earrings, a gem at her dress and another ring at her arms.
Lighting struck her body a second time, changing the dress color to blue and giving her a bowler hat. The background stars all gathered and clung onto the back of her dress. The mass of space grew and turned into a black cape with stars in the inside.
Water fell onto her, removing the little flames that remained and staining red lines and curves on her dress.
She got up, looking like a drugged wet cat. She gazed at the bird which had a horrified look on its face. A blank wand fell onto her hands which she clenched like a mace.
"You look awful!" The bird spun around her, flapping its wings with panic and sadness. "How could this be?"
"I can hear you?!" Shima yelled out in the middle of the busy park. "Get over here!" She grabbed the bird without any care for its safety and pulled it into her face. Her eyes gazed angrily at the bird and the bird gazed back with its off putting eyes.
"Don't grab me! That's unfit for a Magical Girl."
"What? Cosette?"
"No. I'm not Cosette. I am your magical companion, the guide to girls like you. I am a magical animal! The mascot of every girl's journey."
"But I don't think other magical girls have companions like you."
"Don't you watch shows or read manga? I'm very important as the comic relief and helping guide."
"But those are fiction. This is real life. Wait."
Shima raised her mace near the bird, threatening it with violence. "Where am I? What happened to Cosette? Why did my mind slip into darkness suddenly?"
"You're in a park, a public park that commoners, ahem civilians love to visit. Cosette? Who? Such a person with such a cute name. Doesn't matter now. It matters now that you have been chosen much like the other Magical Girls to fight evil and save humanity."
"Sounds like a bunch of lies. Why was I chosen? Can you tell me that?"
"Same reason as why every other was chosen."
"And that is?"
"They are young and easily fooled. A perfect soldier fit to fight off the swarms of invaders. Of course that is just a guess. I'm just a bird."
Shima's eyes did not move away from the bird. Her gaze remained steady as her hands remained firm. She remained silent, her mouth not forming a smirk or frown.
"You're eyes… I'm flattered. I am quite cute! Tweet."
Shima shook the bird with all her might. "Don't make it weird. I'm just thinking of something." She continued shaking the bird until she frowned. Her eyes finally blinker and she stopped the bird's torture.
"What magical girl am I? I have trouble figuring it out."
"Probably the Magical Girl of foolish violence."
The bird began to chuckle and her annoyed face did nothing but fuel its laughter. "Ahem." With one glance to the side, the bird stopped and whispered passively. "I don't know."
"Magical Girls normally get their titles engraved into their minds when they get chosen. There must be a delay or something nowadays."
"Is that so?" There was a bountiful and fresh tree of doubt in her mind but she decided to shrug it off and believe the bird. Without much options left and now in a job filled with uncertainty and danger, she threw her faith into this bird.
"You're here to guide me? How do I not die? I don't know if I can fight off those monsters I see on the news."
"Long answer, training on improving your athleticness and magical control. Make you learn different attacks suited to different types of invaders and situations. Making you memorize those situations until all you need is the flick of an arm without any thought behind it. Studying and finding the weaknesses and strengths of invaders and other Magical Girls."
"Umm… Short answer?"
"Training Montage."
