Chapter 15: Philosophy of Life

Chapter 15: Philosophy of Life

“You are the Magical Girl of Abyss. A title fitting for you, an motionless shell. This is your title. Go forth and save humanity.”

This child was often called a freak behind her back, always having a frozen expression throughout her days. She had no friends and she felt no need to have any. Her own void inside her heart was enough to fill all her desires, which were none.

The child walked to school and back with no clear purpose in life. She paid no attention to class and exerted no effort in any of her academic assignments. The only slight thing she cared enough to do was the pastime of reading philosophy books.

This child might be more empty than anyone else around her but she still had her special little thing that interested her greatly. She would skip class and lunch just to head to the school library and read. A true abnormality in her empty life.

It was a long day of sitting around and gazing at the ceiling. Her mind jumbled with the knowledge of life and philosophy, trying her minimum to slowly understand all the concepts and theories. With only a couple minutes left, her mind would have finally grasped the idea of ego but she was interrupted.

It was the local librarian volunteer, a symbol of destruction to her reading time. The child stood up and began walking out of the room but was stopped by the librarian. She was panicking and a lot more shaky than usual.

“Wait, don't go outside! There's an invasion! The school is being told to stay in lockdown! I'm just telling you, since… you seem aloof.”

“One’s own outer reflection is one’s own truest self and one’s own inner feelings are what binds the soul to this ideal self.”

“Huh?!”

The child thought to herself whether to ignore the librarian’s warnings or to go outside. She had no real motivation to do either but she had one thing that pushed her to action. The child was a Magical Girl and all Magical Girls had a duty to protect humanity.

Ayaka ran to the right, her throat bleeding profusely. Water wrapped around her neck, entering inside and covering it in a thin layer of iron with room inside to still allow breathing.

She swung her hands up, a wave of water forming in front of her and turning into a thick layer of iron, covering herself from any additional sniper shots. “Hello!”

She flung her head back and slammed her hand forward, a cute girl grabbing her hand and stopping it from moving. “I'm the Magical Girl of Cuteness! Nice to meet you and goodbye.” She raised her wand and tapped it on Ayaka's head.

“Sparkle Sparkle!” Ayaka was pushed back by an explosion of glitters and confetti. Her body crashed through the metal and slid across the floor.

----------------------------------------

The child exited the front door of the school, her clothes changing to that of a typical marine sailor’s uniform. A white shirt and pants with light blue wavy stripes. She swung her arms around in the air, making small motions which resulted in big changes.

Water sprouted from the ground and water appeared out of thin air, floating and dashing towards a stray invader approaching the school.

The water was fast and smooth, moving gracefully into the air before turning into metal and shredding into and out of the flesh of any monster near the child. Well the small invasion was over in flash. She let out a slight exhale of proudness and stood still as all the water fell to the ground.

This whole experience would have been nothing important to this child if it weren't for one small event.

“Woah! How did you do that? You're so strong!” Another child who seemed to be around her age appeared out of nowhere covered in mud.

“Do what?”

“Do all those moves! Are you a Magical Girl?!” The child jumped around with joy in her whole body. “Oh and since you came out of the school door, are you a student here as well?”

“Yes.”

“Ahh… Great! I'm Chiasa, nice to meet you.”

“Ok…”

----------------------------------------

Ayaka pushed herself up and gathered the water around her into her hands. She threw her fingers forward, sending out quick lines of water towards the hole on the metal wall and onto her enemy.

The girl smiled and waved her hand before disappearing into thin air and reappearing next to her. Ayaka turned her hand and the water strings turned into metal as it swung towards the girl.

The magical girl of cuteness dropped down onto the floor dodging the chains elegantly. “Playtime!” She jumped towards Ayaka pushing her to the ground and began plummeting her wand. Hit after hit, it struck the head and body of Ayaka.

----------------------------------------

Day after day, the emotionless child was visited and annoyed by the noisy child. Be it, her lunch time, her library studies, or even her walk home, the noisy child always aimed to accompany her.

“So Ayaka, how was the book? Personally I could never read these word heavy books, I mean no pictures at all! It's not like we are in university.”

“The book, it was a key to a locked door called the land of desires. Humans are all born with an innate desire for multiple things and as the ruler of our own life to manage these desires we must learn to control these desires… But that is what the book says. In reality, humans have no real control in their lives, we are merely passengers in a drifting ship.”

“Ayaka…” The noisy child placed her hands on the other child’s shoulder. “I disagree, we definitely have more control in our lives, I mean it's not our own ship of life for nothing! We are the knights of our own future, marching to the hymn of our own emotions.”

“That's debatable.”

----------------------------------------

Ayaka slammed her hands to the ground and jets of water sprang up, colliding with the girl on top of her and knocking her off. “Don't ruin my Magical Girl uniform!” She swung her wand forward and turned the jets of water into marshmallows and macarons.

With a couple skips towards Ayaka, she lifted her foot into the air and stomped onto Ayaka's ribs. “Oh that feels nice. Is this how that barbarian brute of a knight felt?” Ayaka grabbed onto the leg and exerted all the strength of her broken hands.

“Ahh-” The magical girl of cuteness teleported away before appearing back a couple feet away, her leg instantly giving up and falling over. “-ahhhhh!”

“You demon! The both of you! Two prehistoric brutes!”

Despite all the concussions and the broken ribs she possessed, Ayaka stood upward and gathered water into her hands. She grasped the water and it exploded in size transforming into a very heavy metal anchor. She lifted it into the air and threw it forward sending waves of water around her.

----------------------------------------

The child ducked to the left and swung her anchor to the side, knocking a massive insect to the side. She dashed to the right and kicked her foot forward, kicking out another monster and swung her anchor to the side, crushing another one. She let go of the anchor and swung her arm up, sending waves of watery strings that sliced through a wave of enemies.

She then stabbed the anchor to the ground and a torrent of water lifted her to the air. The child’s hand lowered to her sides and she closed her eyes. A tsunami sprouted from the ground and washed over everything in sight, slamming into the mountain of invaders and the buildings.

It crashed onto the skyscrapers, crashing and demolishing it like nothing. The water then continued to wash over, knocking over and decimating all of the invaders. A general flew towards her, grappling into her shoulders and opening its wide mouth. It was a mixture of an orca whale and a dragonfly, a humanoid creature with big burly arms.

The water surrounding her exploded up into miniscule droplets, stabbing the general with thousands of metal spikes. The spikes turned back to water and the general fell to the flooded city, the waters devouring it in seconds.

----------------------------------------

Ayaka raised her hands forward and multiple spikes of water shot up before dropping down into small balls of metal around her. The Magical Girl of Cuteness teleported out of the anchor’s way and was bombarded by multiple pellets of metal. “Is this all? Please try better as a Magical Girl!”

She crouched down and jumped up, throwing her hands wide and doing a cutesy pose. She slowly waved her wand around and teleported as small hands made of water shot towards her.

She reappeared above her enemy, floating with a wide smile. “Magical Girl Spotlight!” A rainbow stream of magic fell onto Ayaka, burning and colliding hard onto her body.

----------------------------------------

“I'm retiring.”

“Huh?!” The noisy child clung to the emotionless child, shaking her shoulders wildly. “Why?! Why?!”

“Stop.” She raised her palm up and the noisy child backed off quickly. “I don't get it… You're a hero! A Magical Girl! And a great one at that! You can stop so many invasions on your own when it would have taken multiple other magical girls to stop.”

“Duty doesn't last forever and I have my own personal reasons for this departure.”

“What? Let me hear them!” The child said angrily as she caused a ruckus in the empty classroom.

“...”

Her anger slowly dissipated and her eyes gazed straight at the other child’s pupils. “Please?” She said in a quiet and aching way. “I'll help out however.”

The child nodded and dropped her arms to her sides. “The city has designated me as a danger, my recent activities have resulted in what they said to me as catastrophic destruction.”

“Huh but you saved them didn't you?! If it weren't for you then all those monsters would have spread to other cities and murdered innocents! They must be out of their minds!”

“Sanity isn't something we have the right to determine. Us humans don't have the ability to truly judge another living being’s state of mind, that is to say it feels weird to be called a lunatic by one’s own birth parents.”

“They called you cuckoo?! How dare they, I tell them what! You are not insane, you are the most intelli-

“No. I understand them completely. I have put a great burden on them financially.”

“How much?”

The child dug deep into her pockets and handed the other child a folded piece of paper. The child grabbed it and unfolded it before folding it again, taking a deep breath and unfolding it a second time.

“Okay…. What the fuck!” The child quickly raised her hands and covered her mouth. “Oops sorry… But how? This is so much money. Okay I can kinda understand why your parents might be angry but um…”

“So you agree?”

“No no no! Of course not, the city shouldn't make you pay for this! You saved them from much more destruction and now they are bankrupting you in return. It's insane!”

“This is why I'm quitting. I have decided to repay this debt on my own.”

“Wait no, I'll do something about this.” The child raised her foot and stomped it onto the table and proudly pointed her finger to the air. “I'll take all of this debt and pay it off myself! It may take years but I'll do this!”

The child's eyes lightly glittered in appreciation. “But why?”

“Why?! It's simple!” Her lips quivered and exploded into a wide smile that pierced the whole room with its brightness. “You have saved so many people, it's only right somebody saves you this time!”

The child took a step back, her eyes being blinded by the other child’s bright determination. Her lips slowly rose up to form a grin.

----------------------------------------

Ayaka slid back, her feet being pushed by a stream of water. She stomped her legs to the ground and raised her hands forward. Water began to appear around her hands, small droplets forming at the tip of her fingertips.

Her legs shook weakly and her arms lowered down one last moment. Her body fell to the ground, a soft weak splash occuring.

“I expected more. But it's enough of this chit chat. Just like your only cute factor, I'm hungry, so so hungry. And I think, no I'm certain you will satisfy my desire to be even cuter than ever before! Look! I'm cleansing it all! Won't my idol look at me! Look at this! Look at all of this Love!”

----------------------------------------

The child remained in action, saving the same amount of lives as she used to but with a lot less destruction. She took on weaker invasions which required only a little amount of power from her. She didn't care for invasions that much but she still had a duty as a magical girl.

Well, today the child remained comfortably seated in the library after school hours. After so many times she was the only one left, she was finally given a key to the library doors. She began reading a book she has read multiple times before.

The room was silent except for the sound of rain hitting the ground outside. There was a storm brewing or something along that kind, the child was clueless about those types of things. But amidst all these reading and silence something was definitely missing.

She placed down the book, lacking any interest in reading it anymore. Her eyes wandered to the heavy rain outside, the sounds giving her a sense of comfort and familiarity. She began to think to herself, how is that other child doing?

The only person she could call a friend was always busy and working at one of her jobs. Whenever she had any break, she spent it sleeping in her classroom instead of going to the lonely child’s classroom.

She had promised to carry the child’s burden but in return the child was left with sadness and loneliness. Suddenly a loud noise interrupted her thoughts, she glanced down at her phone with a face of fear.

----------------------------------------

“Chiasa…”

“Huh?”

“Chiasa!”

----------------------------------------

The child ran towards the heavy rain, her steps splashing water everywhere. Her eyes filled with worry as she ran past multiple portals and invaders. It was a small-scale invasion but she had no time to stop any of these monsters, she had something much more important.

----------------------------------------

“Chiasa! Help! Help me!”

“Seriously? Ohohohohoho!”

----------------------------------------

With water and cold sweat running down her face, she broke the door open in one powerful punch.

----------------------------------------

“Chiasa…”

“That's so cute. Begging to be saved like that.”

----------------------------------------

“Chiasa!” The child screamed out in terror. Her hands shaking at her side. It was what she feared most. A big Eurasian Tree Sparrow with seaweed wrapping around its wings was standing behind the counter of the restaurant, slowly pecking down on the floor, blood flesh on its beak. The child remained silently standing still, her eyes glancing to the ground.

It feels so empty. Like always, my heart and mind have returned to this emptiness. Is this sorrow? No it can't be, I have nothing to mourn, I have nothing to care for. I am an abyss, lacking any sort of light. I am back to what I always was, a magical girl of abyss. This is what I had felt before and what I will feel now. My duty, my life, my friend, does it all matter in the end. I remained here, bounded by a role I did not ask for. A title? A worrisome title which reminded me of my horrifying trait. After so long this abyss shall go back to its normal self, uncaring and darkened. An abyss, a void, a darkness, a never was.

The child was tackled by the monster, her body falling to the ground limply. It was clear that the child had no more intention of carrying this abyss anymore. Emptiness ravaged throughout her body as blood splattered all over the restaurant.

A metallic blade shot out from the bird, stopping mere inches from her face. “Ayaka!” The bird was lifted up high into the air, its trashing body tossing blood everywhere as the wound in its body was freshly opened up. “Aaaaagghhhhh!” Chiasa gripped her spear as hard as she could, her gauntlets roughly crushing her fingers from the strength, she turned her foot and clenched her teeth. She moved her entire body, raising her arms into the sky, and slammed the bird into the counter, ripping through the wood and into the ground floor, cracking it into pieces.

“Hah… haaa!” The armored knight turned around, reaching her hand out to the fallen child. “I’m glad you're safe… The knight's legs were trembling as the child reached out to grab the hand, pulling it weakly as her knight fell onto her.

“Ahh, I understand it now.”

“Ahh~ then be better in your next life as a Magical Girl.” The magical girl jabbed her wand forward, pointing it at Ayaka’s head.

The Magical Girl of Abyss, stood up one last time, a shockwave of water shooting from her body, covering the whole city block in a dark and stormy weather. A ball of condense cuteness struck her face, whiplashing her neck. However Ayaka’s legs remained standing still, her head slowly moving back towards the wand without any reaction from her face. A black captain’s hat dropped onto her head and a black massive jacket fell onto her back, the stars visible from inside. She grasped the wand as her opponent stood there with an inhumane grinning face.

“Get. Off. My! SHIP!”
