Chapter 587

Steven was completely undependable.

I continued to say, "There was one thing I never quite figured out: when we first started dating, I was considerate and tried to save money for your sake. But somehow, I was made to feel unworthy."

Annalise's voice was calm yet cold. It sounded as if she was narrating a story unrelated to her. But when Steven heard her, he felt pain in his chest.

"I'm sorry."

I asked nonchalantly, "Don't you think it's too late to talk about this now? When I needed money and somebody to care for me, you didn't treat me as your wife. You only saw me as an enemy.

"Even when I went into labor, you thought it was simply something that I wanted and that I should be responsible for it myself. You refused to support me."

I thought I had forgotten all that had happened. But when Steven brought them up, I realized I still remember it all. I had simply chosen not to think about it because my current life was so fulfilling. Steven paused. Then, he sobbed uncontrollably. He realized that I was stating the truth.

I continued, "But now, those are all things of the past. There is no need for us to be trapped in our unpleasant memories of the past.

"I've moved on, and I hope you can move on, too. Live a new life, and don't disturb me." Then, I hung up the phone.

...

Steven sobbed, clutching his phone. Other men treated their partners well. After they got married, they would shower their partners with love, but why couldn't Steven do the same?

Steven couldn't understand himself either. He never gave Annalise love or money. Instead, he criticized her countlessly.

Steven cried his heart out. He wondered how much Annalise loved him to tolerate all that he had done.

"Only the bootlickers were left. Now, the company is on the verge of closing down..."

"That's why he started to contact the people he fired previously. He's trying to see if he can employ them again."

I joked, "Did any of you go back, then?"

"I would be an idiot for going back."
