Book 4 Chapter 5: Talks of Love and Talks of Souls

Lone, Soph and Eolande split from George and Scott once they had reached the diamond floor where the diamond-grade suites were.

Even though there were only twenty such suites in total, and despite the fact that all of their suites were right next to each other, Lone still gifted the two boys with a modified communication orb each to contact him should something happen.

Since neither of them could wield mana, Lone just told them to crush the orbs physically. It would send him a signal regardless, so while it was a bit of a waste of the mana points he had used to create them, it was better than nothing should they find themselves in danger.

Lone and Soph entered their suite with Eolande hovering nervously behind them. Once inside the large and open living room, they were greeted by a small androgynous spirit of some sort.

"Hello. I am your suite servant. Should you have any needs at all, please relay them to me and I will try my best to fulfil them." The pure-white spirit bowed slightly and then merged into the floor.

"Heh..," Lone exclaimed in admiration. "That thing doesn't have a soul, but it can speak and listen to commands? That's hella fancy. As expected of such an expensive room, I suppose. I wonder if I'll get in trouble if I take it apart to study it?"

Soph yawned. "I'm going to bed. Lone, please don't take too long."

He ruffled her hair playfully and took out a set of pyjamas from his Dimensional Storage for her. "We shouldn't be long. If you can, try to stay awake. Our talks involve you quite a bit as well."

Soph accepted the silky clothes and smiled. "I'll try." With that said, she wandered through the stupidly fancy room. She stopped in front of a door and tilted her head. "Is this the bedroom?"

"Master, this door leads to the bathroom. Please take the second door from your right should you wish to enter the sleeping chambers," the spirit answered softly without revealing its form.

Soph nodded her head. "Thankies, Mr Suite Spirit." Even if it was sexless, Soph felt like it was cuter if she made it a 'Mr'. At the same time, that way, in her mind, it would be far less likely for it to be affected by Lone's little-girl magnet abilities.

Lone threw himself onto a sofa and sunk into it. "Wow. This shit's really comfy. Well worth the money, I guess. Hey, Suite Spirit, can I request food from you?"

"Of course," it answered.

"Get me some of the best food you have available. It'd do me some good to eat something new for a change. Swind is great and all, and my Creation Magic is a good sub when I can't get his cooking, but I'd like something tied to the culture of this place, please," Lone said.

"Right away, Master," the spirit replied.

Lone glanced at Eolande and nodded his head to gesture at the sofa in front of him. "Sit."

"O-Okay..." She was nervous. Incredibly nervous, but she still sat down in front of him.

"First. Let's get this whole you and Soph thing out of the way," Lone said with a bit of a sigh. "It's honestly gone too far at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if this petty feud between you two ended up with one of you dying or getting badly hurt."

Eolande's beautiful face paled. "I-I would neve-"

"I know. not intentionally, at least." Lone scratched the back of his neck. "I know that you can't just give up your traditions since it's practically in your blood. To be entirely honest, I have no issues having a physical relationship with you, Violet Flower."

Eolande's heart thumped loudly upon hearing him say her true name. "T-Then wh-"

Lone raised his hand to interrupt her. "I have no issue with it if both Soph and Sophie don't. on an emotional level though, I don't know."

"Master, here is the food you requested," the suite spirit said as it materialised and pushed a trolley full of succulent-looking dishes of varying kinds into the room. it bowed after it had brought the cart in front of Lone, then it merged into the floor once again.

"That was fast," Lone mumbled. He picked up what looked like a roasted leg of some sort of small animal and began munching on it. "Spicy. Not bad."

As he ate, he returned his attention to the squirming girl in front of him. "Anyway, I don't know if I could ever love you."

"W-Why not? Polygamous relationships aren't something so unordinary! I'm perfectly happy being in second place to Soph and Sophie! I just... I just want to be loved by you..." Tears unintentionally spilt out of Eolande's eyes.

"Because it wouldn't be fair to them," Lone answered immediately and without any hesitation.

"Why?! She's already sharing you with her other personality! Why can't she share you with me too?" There was nothing but desperation and sadness in her voice.

Lone ran his fingers through his hair and sighed heavily. "Ah, fuck. Well, to answer truthfully, it's because I'm a fucking hypocrite."

"H-Huh?" Eolande was confused. What did he mean by that?

"Well, to be honest, I'd never let Soph get close to another man. Physically or emotionally. I'm selfish. I want her all to myself. If she gave me permission to love you, wouldn't it only be fair that I did the same for her and Sophie? I can't do that. It would break my heart. They both mean too much to me. If the choice is between breaking my heart, Soph's and Sophie's, or yours, then isn't the answer obvious?" Lone didn't sound happy at all as he was saying this.

Saturn bobbed around in the air between the two of them and hummed softly. It didn't like the sombre atmosphere, so it was trying its best to liven things up.

Eolande smiled softly. "I know. That honest selfishness of yours is what makes you so... you." She breathed in deeply and a certain light of resolve entered her eyes. "If I can convince her to give in to your selfishness and allow me into your relationship... will you accept me then? Will you try to love me then? I won't force anything onto either of you. Even if Soph agrees and I get my chance... If you don't end up wanting me as a woman... I'll back down. I'll continue to support you from the side. I'll stop calling you 'Husband'. I... I just want a chance."

Lone stayed silent for a while. He picked up a bowl of red sparkling rice and ate a few spoonfuls of it. It was delicious. He closed his eyes and savoured the flavour. "Well, Sophie. What's your opinion on this?"

Eolande wore a shocked expression and her face turned grim as she heard the master bedroom door opening.

Dressed in her pyjamas and with a coy expression her face, Sophie waltzed into the room and placed herself on Lone's lap. She picked up a drumstick and licked it before she frowned. "Too spicy."

"S-Sophie? Not Soph? Um... you heard all of that?" Eolande asked with a tremble in her voice. She had some confidence in convincing the meeker Soph, but the more violent and uncooperative Sophie was a completely different story.

In Eolande's mind, Sophie hated her. She was always the most aggressive when it came to denying her any affection from Lone, so her anxiety was reaching all-new heights.

Sophie grinned. "Yup. Soph's asleep in here," she said as she pointed to her head. "We can handle her physical exhaustion better than her, but the headache from her low mana is killing us."

She looked up and made a begging face. "Lone. Kiss away the pain."

Smiling wryly, Lone softly pecked her forehead. "There. Enough playing around. What's your opinion on this, you little eavesdropper?"

"Hehe." She stuck her tongue out cutely before she lowered her face and looked at the still very worried Eolande. "We personally do not care. So long as nothing changes between us, Soph and Lone, then we are happy. If Lone is willing to try to accept you, then so are we. We cannot speak for Soph, however."

Lone rested his chin on her head. "Huh. I didn't expect that. So even if I ended up letting Eolande into our relationship - which I'm not saying I definitely will - you wouldn't find it unfair if I never let another man touch you?"

Sophie shrugged and leaned further into his chest. "We only have eyes for you and Soph."

"Ah. Now that you mention that. This might be a good time to tell you something, Sophie," Lone said.

"Hmm?" Both Sophie and Eolande were curious. What did he have to say that was so important that it could interrupt this serious conversation?

"I can barely sense it, and I could be wrong, but I think you're starting to develop a soul," Lone announced.

Sophie wore a shocked and confused face. "What do you mean?"

Lone scratched his cheek. "Well, up until now, both you and Soph, you've always been the same person. Like, two sides of the same coin? I don't know why, but Soph's soul is splitting. Or at least, that's what it looks like to me. I was really worried when I first noticed it, but it doesn't seem to be a bad thing. You're becoming a real person, pretty much."

Eolande's eyes opened wide. "Won't she die then? A single body can't hold more than one soul. Well, not unless they're you."

Lone chuckled. "I don't have more than one soul. There are souls living inside my soul. It's different."

Sophie stood up and looked straight into Lone's eyes. Her face was painted with fear. "We're becoming a person? But, that... But it... This makes no sense! C-Can you stop it? Can you keep us as a part of her? A part of Soph?"

Lone shook his head. "I can't. I don't know enough about souls. Maybe it's possible? I can understand if you're scared, but this is a good thing. Don't you want to hug Soph with your own hands? To talk to her face to face?"

"Our... Our own hands? Face to face?" Sophie's voice was trembling.

Lone smiled very warmly. "Yes. My plan is to find a method from the Soul Hall here to safely transfer souls. Right now, I can reinforce souls or bind them. With my raw soul oracles abilities, I can move a soul, but I can't move it into a body without something major being lost. I've tested it on animals, and it's not pretty. Saturn can store souls, but it can't put them into things."

"Then-"

Lone placed a finger on Sophie's lips. "I plan to shake down Mystopolis' Soul Hall for every soul-related skill they have. I was going to do this for Rachel anyway, but now I have another reason. And hey, I might even be able to revive Ele'hunda in a best-case scenario. Maybe not since his soul might have already fused with the eastern world tree, but there's hope. As far as a body goes, my plan is to just copy Soph's fifteen-year-old one since that's the one you're most comfortable in."

Sophie had a bit of a blank look on her face. "T-This is a lot to take in all at once."

Lone raised his head and kissed her lightly. "I know. Go to bed. Tell Soph everything about your soul and Eolande when she wakes up, 'kay? We've got plenty of time to work this out. Worse comes to worst, I store your new soul in Saturn then I'll go on an experiment rampage until I get the skill I need to move it into your own body safely."

"Okay..." Sophie really did become quite meek whenever she was outside of her comfort zone despite how cold and cruel she could be. Lone didn't dislike that about her.

The girl gave Lone a final kiss and wandered back into the bedroom without saying goodbye to Eolande.

"That was... something..." Eolande commented.

Lone laughed. "Wasn't it just? Anyway. It seems that this distraction loosened your nerves a bit. Now, why don't you tell me about this request of yours?"

"Ah, right... um, well, I already told you. It was about giving me a chance... I feel kind of silly now. I didn't think you'd be so accepting. Sophie either. That was a real surprise," she admitted.

"You still need to convince Soph. She's just as possessive of me as I am of her," Lone noted.

"R-Right. I'll work hard!" Eolande felt far more confident if all she had to do was convince the far more shy and reclusive Soph. Unfortunately for her, she was vastly underestimating Soph's tyrannical obsession with the fluff-power generator known as 'Lone'.
