Compassion is not a course in educating those we deem ignorant. It is meeting one another in our complicated differences. It is acceptance, courage and the humility to lay down our self righteousness.
I wrote the above lines after hearing how stupid someone’s chosen beliefs were. Why do we do that? Why is someone stupid or dumb, just because they don’t think the way that they should, in our opinion? It is a tale as old as time. Wars are fed by differences, families are shattered by differences. Different doesn’t always mean stupid, it just means different. I don’t have to understand it, but I can show respect. Different doesn’t mean wrong most of the time. Dare to be different. Dare to accept others who are different.
