Leon's fiancée was waiting for him there. Her face radiated with a beautiful smile towards Leon. Like Jasper, she also had long pointy ears but her hair was purplish dark colour, a drastic difference for twins. She was giving the cheerful vibes, the exact opposite of her brother. She looked at her brother and straight up ignored him, the same as Jasper was doing right now. Then she introduced herself to Darrick.
"Hello, I'm Jasmine Denver, Leon's fiancée. I hope you don't mind me taking Leon with me."
"Not at all. Enjoy your date guys," said Darrick and scurried away. He was heading back to his room to pick some notes for the Magic Sigil Study class.
As he was heading there he noticed Jasper trailing behind him. Jasper had just behind them since they left the auditorium, The most likely reason Jasper was behind him was to get to the dormitories. Darrick would have wanted to talk a bit with the guy if only he wasn't such a downer.
He picked up some notes and things from his room and quickly headed for his upcoming class. It would have been a bit challenging to find the classroom if he didn't have 'map' but he did so he arrived there in a few minutes and when he entered the class most seats were already taken. He took one empty seat at the front side of the class. It was a pretty big classroom but still, the seats were mostly occupied already.
Darrick was just on time for the class, he just sat down and the professor entered the class. She looked more like a mage than all the other professors of the academy because of the robe she was wearing. Maybe it was magical, as he was sensing something from it but identifying it never occurred to him. Overall, from his mysterious sense, he was getting the feeling that she was really powerful not as powerful as Professor Zelkrat but still powerful.
It's just a hunch but for some reason, I seem to sense the power of these people and there is my system who refuses to show me my profile. I think the last time when I created that or rather tried creating that artifact I sensed my mana core grow but I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was and why it happened. My best guess is that I levelled up and my profile glitch is hiding it from me. I have to create another artifact to confirm my theory.
While he was thinking about his plans the professor had started the class. She was not taking it slow because for just a few seconds she was introducing herself and then she directly started with the topic of today's class.
"Good morning my dear students. From today onwards I'll be your MSS teacher for the whole year. My name is Lana Silvers. You can call me Professor Lana. That's it for the introduction, I won't be wasting any more time. I'll be starting our first lesson from here on out." She said it all in one breath then took a deep breath to compensate and scribbled something on the board that barely looked like the word 'sigil' Natil.
"The noble students present here already know about the basics but most of you here are people who were introduced to the magic just a few months ago, am I right?" There was a collective form of agreement and most of the students replied with a yes. The professor was satisfied with the answer and continued with her lesson.
"Then we will start the class with just that." She was strolling around in the front from one end to another end of the stage. Slowly, not fast enough to distract the class but she was making sure to the attention on her.
"Now there are commonly four types of magic you can learn, those are spellcraft, spirit arts, magic engineering and alchemy. I will separate these four into three groups based on how their sigil functions. I will give simple trivia on each of them in this class we will be going deep about them in our next classes."
"All right, If you remember reading your magic aptitude tests report you may have seen the ratio between rigidity and flexibility of your soul. Now I'll explain the importance of it and the impact of it in this class."
The students from the noble families did not react much as they knew about it from the start. On the other side, the commoner students started discussing it in loud whispers. The class was getting noisy and with a single word from the Professor Lana everything was quiet again.
"Silence" she coughed once to get everyone's attention and started talking again.
"Now as I was telling the ratio of the R : F is connected to how well you can do in each of these subjects. The ones with more flexibility must have been recommended to pursue spirit arts and on the other hand rigidity high people were recommended to be in the spellcraft."
"Why is that? It's all because the sigils depend on your state of soul to conduct any form of magic. Fundamentally both spellcraft and spirit arts are different from each other, let me give you a brief explanation of them so you can understand what I'm going to say next."
She picked up the chalk and wrote something resembling the word spellcraft on one side and spirit arts on the other side and drew a vertical line between them. She turned towards students again to present her point.

"The spellcraft is where your rigid soul is carved in a specific pattern permanently so you can use the magic from that pattern by letting mana run through them. The downside here is there is limited space on your soul so you won't be able to use a lot of versatile powers but casting is quick and it gives you a lot more creative freedom by tweaking around a bit with your sigil. Oh yeah, if I didn't mention it the patterns I told about are the sigils."
Is that how it works? I don't have any sigil yet but I can do some magical things. Is it related to the spirit arts? I will find out more if I just listen to the lectures. How silly I am.
Thought Darrick about his current situation. He was not in any position to judge what was happening to him as he was lost in this field. So he hoped to uncover some truths and confirm some theories he had.
"Then comes the spirit arts. It does not want a rigid soul to work with because the sigils used in the spirit arts are never meant to be carved on the soul because they belong to a different being altogether. The spirit arts are about making the contract with some powerful being for power in exchange for whatever reasonably balanced thing they ask."
"You have to call upon the being to use their powers through the connection you made. It has a lot more casting time and no creative freedom but they are strong, like very strong. Also, it does not take up any space on your soul but it usually is more taxing to use spirit arts than spellcraft."
"Now you may think where did sigil come into play here? The contracted beings or spirits lend them their power in the form of temporary sigils. The sigils disappear from the soul after the use and it appears again if you invoke the spell again."
"And the last group alchemy and magic engineering. These two also work with sigils but their sigils are special or you can say just different. Their base function is different from the other two groups. They use both rigid and flexible soul in harmony to achieve their results. So their sigils are a lot different than the usual spell sigils."
"According to the researchers, there are some unique sigils that require special ratios to bear them but I won't talk about them now as it is not important to you for now. If you didn't understand something I said then you can raise your hand to ask some questions."
There were loud murmurs in the classroom again and a lot of students raised their hands. Darrick also had some questions but did not raise his hands. He waited for others to ask questions and hear their answers from the Professor. The professor chose a guy at the back to ask the question.
"What is the limit for the number of sigil one can bear on their soul?" asked the guy with brown hair and brown eyes. Darrick did not know his name, for now.
"It depends on the soul of an individual. Some may bear a lot of sigils and still wouldn't be able to utilize a single one properly and on the contrary, most of the individuals can only bear one or two sigils and they give their all to specialize in that one or two sigils."
I wish I knew how much space I have in my soul. If only the profile section was functional. It's only speculation but there must be some kind of stat representing it. I just need some hints to figure out what it is.
While he was thinking the professor had chosen another student to ask her questions, with how many hands were being raised Darrick did not think all of the questions could be answered. Except for the noble children all of the other students had some questions and it was evident by seeing how many hands that were raised.
"Can the alchemist use spellcraft?"
"It is certainly discouraged to pursue that path as flexibility of the soul is too much for you to bear a really good spell sigil. You can have some very basic spell sigils but spirit art is always the best option for an alchemist."
"Can we change the sigil once we bear it on our soul or is it permanent?"
"This topic will be covered in future classes in detail but to answer you in short you can but not always. Many factors come into play in this situation so there are many limitations to the methods so think wisely before getting your spells or contracts."
The questions came one after another, before the girl who asked the last question sat down, there was a wave of new hands raising for some more questions. Even though there were a lot of people ready to ask questions and it would be exhausting to answer them all, Professor Lana was smiling happily. When Professor gestured at another student the student asked the question right away.
"How do we commoners get our hands on some sigils to use? I don't think in the future we can learn something valuable in the MSS class without any sigils, I tried procuring a sigil but it was very expensive and nowhere near affordable, not even the cheapest one."
"Hmm, I can understand the problem here and not just me the Academy also recognizes this problem. I was going to talk about it at the end of the class but now that question has come up I'll make the announcement right away. Every year Academy provides a non-attributed sigil and a chance to contact the spirit realm for the contracts!"
The class became chatty all of a sudden, the excitement was evident in the voice of the crowd. It was clear that most did not about this, although that was also weird to think about.
Shouldn't everyone know about such an important thing, I would only apply here if I knew there was a guarantee of such an important aspect. This is kind of weird.
He turned around to see the students discussing with each other about these things, he spotted some smug looks on some people's faces. They were also evidently the so-called commoners but they were acting like they knew something others didn't, and then it clicked to Darrick why they were like that.
It's not that Academy didn't advertise this, it's just that everyone still hasn't heard of it.
Professor Lana continued with her announcement after letting everyone digest the main news. Most of the student were so happy that the grin on their face didn't seem to subside.
"You can get sigil when you go to collect your IDs tomorrow, and the spirit contact channel will be open in three days until then there will be no spirit arts class, speaking of no classes, for one month there will be no maths classes and there is also no history class for today. So anyone who has maths and history as their subject can enjoy today's afternoon."
With that she continued the question-answer session and the whole hour was spent on it, even with all that professor had a satisfied smile, she said bye and turned to leave and then like someone who forgot something she turned around,
"My students, I was an hour and a half late to say this to you but congratulations to everyone for getting into Caladric Academy. See you guys on Thursday, Bye Bye." and she left the class.
