I've decided on something that though I think will make the story better, some of you probably won't enjoy.
I've decided remove levels, stats, and anything that might encourage grinding.
Why?
Well, remember a few chapters back, where Jack told Hound that Null Online is not reliant on levels and stats? That it's going to revoluzlanize the entire system, because the players will no longer be able to be slaved for XP and gold for the rulers of each nation?
Well, there is one small issue about that. It's not a plot hole, but it dosen't make sense. Think about it; if some people wanted to do away with the slavery of the players, to prevent the gold and XP farming, why not simply do away with the levels? If there is truely no way to prevent from players to enter the game, why are the people who made this illegial world eeven compromising, by creating a game where levels and stats don't matter as much, and why not create a world as realstic as possible; where there are no levels, where there are no stats.
You can see where I'm going with this.
--But honestly, that's just some bullshit I came up with to justifiy my decision. In truth, I just want to write a story, not a grind-fest and chapters about numbers and skills and farming and ways to abuse the system. That shit just ain't fun. I'm removing the paths too, as it honestly does not make sense. Learning how to use your power is one thing, but having points to spend on some skill to instantly gain knowlwedge of some power?
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
Nah fam. That's nonsense. It doesn't match the tone of the story, or the way I'm writing it. This is going to be a mix of martialsarts/magic learning, with some gaming elements; such as items, quests, titles, a rough outline of stats (F-S), and a ranking for skills that the player created, but that's only for the action, and all of you reading this will realize that this story is not about mindless action; it's about what happens before and after, which intrestests me the most. There will be swords and magic, but that is not the focus. It's only a tool to get to the story, not the story itself. Power will be gained, yes, but it will be gained through practice, not through killing monsters.
But again, I am wasting my time telling you this. You guys already know this, as I'm 36 chapters in and there only has been 2 actions scenes, the one with Thrawl and the one with Hound. More action will occur, it has to, and I've already written it, actually, but it will not occur for its own sake, but because of L's decisions. L willl gain power, but he will gain power to achieve a something, not gain power for the sake of power.
This is the story I'm going to write, something slow but more true. To me, this is what 'mature" aimed writing is, something real and something you can immerse yourself in.
I realize that as an author on this site, this is a big fucking no-no. I'm writing to a very small audience, and that will probably reduce my sales when I finish this, but, oh fucking well. Sucks to be me.
And you, if you expcted something a bit more mindless and easy. But there is good news for you!
There are a shit ton of those stories out there, so indulge yourselves in those, but not much of what I'm doing here.
Anyway. I kinda went off topic. Always happens when I try to write-- you start at one end of the road then you wake up to find yourself in alaska.
I'll have to go read every chapter and re-form it to follow this ideal. Most are pretty good, but the one with Hound needs a bit of editting, to tell her that are no levels, and the begining, because it is grindy and ironicly lures in people who like grind-fests.
I think I'll also make a disclaimer, warning them about what type of story this will be. Or I might not, and watch them sufferhuheuheuheeuheuheuehueheuheuheuheuehueheuheuheuheuehuehueheuheuheuehuheuehueheuheuehueheuheuehueheuheuehueheuheuhrueheuheuehwuehweuheuehuweheuheuehueheuheuehueheu
