An unnatural force awoke deep beneath the soil and shifted the very earth around it. It needed not sight in its depriving darkness. Powerful muscles drilled it through the ground with a pulsating madness. Hundreds of barbs tore through shifting sands, buried and rotting foliage, damp mud, and pushed stone and ores out of the way. It had one thing on its unrelenting mind, and that was to reach the surface to unleash its horror upon the world.
It reached the surface and shadows covered all around its body as it coiled and slithered around, leaving only a bit of itself visible. It laid under a crevice beneath a towering mountain with only a few rays of light leaking through. These glimpses of the light from above scorched the hallowed ground, driving the creature closer to the heart of the mountain, wherein it would carve a path if it could.

With its very presence, the sun's light began to fade and disappear from the world, swallowed up by dusk and twilight's edge. No longer did light assault the creature so it revealed itself to the world, crawling out from underneath the mountain and searched for others like it to mate with. Their spawn would rule the underworld like they did before coming to the surface until their number spelled the end of days and the shaking destroyed the very planet they lied upon. Then, they would travel and find a new world to consume and thrive inside.
That was the plan, until another creature of the sky appeared and swept this earthly creature away. In reality, it was just a worm that had surfaced under the rock just after a rain. When evening fell, it went out from underneath the rock and got eaten by a bird.
