Author's Note 2

Author's Note 2

This one is a bit longer since a few interesting things happened.

Daily Chapters:

I said in the last author note that I wanted to update this series daily then ironically failed to do so in the last 10 chapters. A mean combination of sickness, midterms, homework, lack of internet, laziness, and procrastination keeping me from updating. So I’ll try to update daily from now on, but no promises.

Name Changing:

I name chapters quite randomly so sometimes that might end up being lame. I don’t really care about what I name the chapters as. I'll try to keep them somewhat relevant. No promises.

> Quote:Interestingly pointless story. Would be fun seeing the the rock be taken by someone because they think him lucky. Or maybe be used in a goblin spear, but then again he is just a rock.

New Cover Art:

You may have noticed that there’s a new cover art up by the time I post this author’s note. It was done by the RRL user Marmartar / DeviantArt Melonchi. http://melonchi.deviantart.com/

I put up a request for cover art a while back and then forgot it since no one seemed interested. Then a few days later, I got a pm from Marmartar asking me if I was still interested in getting a cover art. Then the next day I got an image and thought it was higher quality than what I expected considering the fiction is about a rock and was told it was Just a rough draft. Which got me all excited and now it’s fully done and it looks great, here’s the full image since the scaled cover art doesn’t do it justice.

Edit: 4 years later I see the image did indeed fail. Good job past me futureproofing.

Top Weekly Review:

Congratulations to Master2580 for having a review that reached the top of top weekly reviews. It’s the third review on this fiction to be in the top weekly, but the first to hit the very top. I’m glad that you took the time to review the story. Also no need to worry, this story won’t be taken down from RRL. If I ever have to choose between having the story on RRL or another site, I will choose RRL.

Guest Writer:

One of the chapters from chapters 11-20, was not written by me. Can you guess which one? Can you guess who wrote it? Now it should be easier since some of those chapters were deleted and are now being rewritten, but not the guest chapter one; that one still exists.

Fanfiction:

In the comments of chapter 11, ColumbaPacis decided to use some of his free time to make a fanfiction crossover of this story with Pokemon. The story is over three times the size of an average Just a Rock chapter. I have it quoted below in case you missed it because you didn’t check the comments and missed out on it.

> Quote:Pokémon - Just a Rock... or is it?

>

> Once upon a time, a young boy named Ash Ketchup, was walking around in the tall grass near the woods. While some people called him red, because of his last name, others just thought that the author of this short fanfic was making fun of the boy with his third-rate grammar. Be that as it may, while the young lad was walking around in the tall grass, minding his own business, a vile force stopped him in his tracks. Just as he was about to raise his noble.. foot, he stumbled.. and fell to the ground.

>

> While some of you might have an idea of what the vile force might have been that struck at our young hero, I urge you not to jump to conclusion. Who knows, you might be rocked to your core by the revelation.

>

> Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.

>

>

> Yes, it was, the vile and unstoppable force of... GRAVITY! Oh, but wait. While it is true, that the wizard gravity was the one who flattened our hero, he was not alone in his deed. No, because his minion the rock, also known as the toe-crusher, was the one who planted the trap for our hero.

>

> After an hour, or maybe six, Ash, the valiant pokémon trainer, awoke. With a bump on his head as big as a rock, he got up. After understanding what happened, the first thing he did was to look for the culprit. After a few seconds of looking around his eyes landed upon a dark object in the otherwise greenish grass. The young boys heart was stirred at that moment, so much that he lost his bearing and shouted: "Oh no! It is Team Rock...et!?"

>

> After those words left his mouth, he distanced himself  a bit from the enemy that was still unresponsive to his claims. There in the high grass stood a rock. No, not any rock, the rock. With a stillness that cannot be put into words, the rock stood there. Unmoving. Unrelenting.

>

> The young boy stared at the rock, and the rock did not stare back at him. At that moment, the young Ash came to a decision, he trust his hand behind his back and pulled out a round object, the size of a rock. The ball left the boy’s hand and came crushing down onto the rock. The boy yelled out: "Pokeball! Go!" At the moment when the ball touched the rock, the world froze. Some of you, dear children, may think that the rock should have dodged the ball, or at least become nervous. But no, the rock in this case stood still, and did not falter. After the moment passed, and nothing happened the ball bounced to the ground.  The boy just stared, not understanding a thing.

>

> After that, the boy changed tactics. Instead, he pulled out another ball. And threw it. You might have thought what the difference was when compared to the first attempt? It was that, when the object came close to the rock, it suddenly opened and out came a yellow rat-like creature with short stubby feet and a long tail. It also had red dots on his cheeks.

>

> Something inside the rock stirred. Was it that the rock had become angry? Confused? Perhaps, even scared? Not at all. The truth in this case was, yes the rock was stirred, but not because it was scared in his heart or mind, because the rock had neither, no, instead it was the small amounts of metal inside the rock reacting to the electromagnetic field the yellow creature created with his sparks. Of course, the young hero Ash was oblivious to all this. He simply shouted "Pikachu! Thunder Shock!" And a yellow streak came crushing down onto the rock. The attacked continued for a while and then stopped... The outcome...

>

> The rock still didn't move an inch from his initial position. Our hero Ash, at first thought that the attack might have been a bust, but he suddenly changed his mind. No, his Pikachu couldn't lose. In fact, it was more likely that the rock was beaten so badly that he simply couldn't move anymore. Yes, that was it. With the hero regaining his bravado. He straightened, picked up his yellow rodent and continued on his journey to save princesses and enslave creatures with his magical balls. The young hero left the scene.

>

> But, the rock, on the other hand, still didn't move. It stood still. Was it hurt by the attack? No, because the attack simply vanished into the ground instead. He was a rock, sparks couldn't affect him. The rock would have smirked at that moment, if he had a face.

>

> The rock simply stayed there. Unmoving. Unrelenting. Hidden inside the grass, awaiting his time, so he could strike again...

>

> The End.

Fun fact: This author’s note is almost ⅕ of the size of the entire Just a Rock story.

Extra fun fact: The fact above is now inaccurate as I just decided to cut out all the chapters past 14 and rewrite them. So, this author note is probably closer to 1/3 of the entire Just a Rock story so far. :p
