Chapter 59: Mexican Standoff

Chapter 59: Mexican Standoff

With two instead of one, the rock was able to look at things with a different perspective and think twice as fast. Two times zero is still zero, but it did have some effect. There was far more surface area they could cover and expose to the air and their bodies, split in two were much lighter and freer than before.

Then the wind picked up and managed to push one of the enlightened pieces into the other with a light “Clack!” This meant war as the lesser half of the rock became a force of nature seeking to erode the better half for being chosen. They could have worked together and achieved so much. Instead, this is what things came to, a bitter struggle between brothers birthed from the same stone. The rift that created them once now pushed them against each other, pit against pit.

If only it was off by a few centimetres they would fit back together and remember the time they were one and the same. Alas as they butted heads, they chipped and broke down their former bonds, never to be together again. And so, a conflict that would not end until they returned to dust and sank down to the depths of the molten earth began.

Until a third challenger appeared, a crooked and broken off nose rolled over, knocking into not just one but both rocks. A truce was made to deal with this rogue interloper, their hatred for each other was put to rest, no redirected towards this sculpted foe. Then the wind died down and they all sat there aimlessly as they were just a pile of rocks, not living beings.
