Cat and Mouse

Tsukachi swore that every time the Hosu police branch was almost filled out there would be a setback. Leading to half their department still making up the difference in Hosu, he had volunteered to go there himself, Sansa had volunteered alongside him. He had done it because everything pointed back to Hosu, especially in the Midoriya case. And he already knew Sansa had only volunteered out of worry for his health, both of them being paired together meant he essentially had a mother hen attached to him. They were sitting together, him sipping on his 4th coffee of the night. Sansa spoke up “So,

Have you decided on it yet?”

Tsukachi sighed, he was talking about the retirement offer again. “For the last time, I’m fine”

But Sansa continued “Look, You’re destroying yourself, I've never seen you this… this..” he gestured to Tsukachi, who looked more and more thin by the day. He hadn’t really eaten much, never really feeling the need. His eyes now had permanent eye bags, his constant all-nighters not helping much, but he was so close to finding the answers, He could almost taste it, he just needed to investigate further into. He was pushed out of his stupor by a nudge in the arm from Sansa, he turners over, seeing

Sansa was staring at him in concern, he had gotten lost in his head again. “I’m fine, I'm still able to work.”

Sansa groaned “I’m not doubting that! I'm just..”

they got interrupted by a dispatch, something He was secretly grateful for. "Large explosion in district 3, Juror Street unknown casualties. all available units respond. Possible Villain attack”

They raced off, sirens blaring to life.

They arrived on the scene, his partner tensing up at the scene “What is it?” he saw a body on the side of the road, swerving to the other side, parking there.”

His partner went for the radio “Possible suspect ran into the alley on the opposite side, have a vehicle go to cut him off.”

Tsukachi saw the alley in the dim light, flying out of the vehicle. “I’m going after the suspect!”

He unclasped his pistol, turning off the safety. as he ran down the narrow alleyways. “Wait for everyone else damnit!” Screamed Sansa before running after him.

Tsukachi ran blindly ahead, coming to an intersection he saw a smaller figure running to his left, he followed after them. “Freeze!” the boy looked back, before double timing it away from him, Tsukachi nearly tripping trying to keep up with the boy’s change in pace. Sansa appeared to have caught up with them, passing Tsukachi with remarkable agility, rushing towards the boy. He talked into his radio “Heading westward!”

Like mice in a maze, they don’t realize how pointless this all is.

“We have officers after the target, how do I proceed?”

The voice on the other side seemed annoyed. “You are in Hosu Right? by the Nomu exclusion zone, correct? Do I need to spell it out to you?” he could feel the condescension in every syllable. But he knew better than to talk back, when she had decided something, that was final. Sighing he looked over to his new tool, its hulking mass perched surprisingly gracefully on the side of the building, its cold dead eyes staring at him. These things really are creepy. Why do I have to be the one to test this thing out anyhow? He couldn’t get over the way it looked at him.

Izuku was running out of breath, having been running for most of the night he was nearing the end of his reserve energy. He had to get away fast, he turned another corner, seeing an open street he picked up the pace, only to have a police car park in front of the alley, he jumped up last second, barely jumping onto the vehicle, running over it he tried to continue running, only to find himself surrounded, officers all pointing guns at him. The two who had been chasing him climbed over the vehicle, one of whom he recognized instantly as the one he had asked for help all that time ago.

“You are under arrest, don’t try anything”

Izuku stared at the officer, he understood all too well what would happen if he resisted at this point, he’d be shot, and no one would ever care, but if he didn’t they’d just kill him later anyways. Looking around carefully he saw a manhole not too far from where he was, maybe if he could just find a way to get closer.

The internet was about to explode with a singular video, taking the nation by storm. It showed shaky footage of an arrest, all from the view of a window, overlooking the street. "I wonder if that's the one involved in the explosion I heard earlier'' the cameraman had mumbled to themselves, zooming in on the face of the figure, who revealed themselves, pulling off their hood the person who had first conquered the sports festival, only to later become a wanted criminal, one Izuku Midoriya. His eyes were filled with a crazed fervor, his words being picked up loud and clear on the video.

"None of you cared! Makoto goes missing, sold by his own parents into a human trafficking ring, and you just closed the case with no conclusion, mere months after he went missing. I was framed for murder and everyone accepted it, I tried to give hope to others like me and was labeled a traitor for it. I've uncovered hundreds of incidents! from bribery to murder, hell I witnessed my own Principal be murdered by Hawks for being an inconvenience.” The cultivation of this entire society around quirkism, all so they could keep the top spot, all the way into the damn laws! Did you know I as a quirkless person have been written out of most laws, including the right to be served at hospitals? This society has to change and I don’t care if I die in the process. As long as it means kids aren’t sold into slavery for their quirks, if it means cases aren’t dropped because of a quirk status. so that when a kid turns 4, they don't lose their family due to their quirk status, so when they turn 6 they don't lose hope of ever fitting in, so when they turn 12 they aren't used to being told to kill themselves, to being a failure! so that when a kid is born, they aren't forced into heroism at a young age, all the expectations set upon them, forced away from friends and saddled with the fact that No one will ever respect their own talents, the only thing they’d ever get praised for is their quirk. I just want one thing, and that's for everyone, everywhere. To be able to fulfill their dreams, I hope to be that for them, or at least set it

in motion!"

Barely audible, the detective's voice could be heard "He's dead Midoriya, or well... He became a Nomu.."

A deafening silence could be heard, before a voice was heard above the phone user "Nomu kill, bring the kid to me alive” it was the unmistakable voice of the Number One Hero Hawks.

Izuku was left stunned. Makoto had become one of those things… He felt like throwing up. But before he could process it he felt a rush of air as the officer that had been standing behind him disappeared, replaced with a red mist. The detective that had been standing in front of him had pulled him forward, he… had died in an instant. Bullets and screams rang out, one of the police cruisers exploded, killing the officer inside. The blur of motion was almost too much to process. Acting on instinct the boy dashed into the sewers, dragging the detective in with him.

He pulled the detective forward as he fumbled for some of the remaining sonic marbles, dumping the whole bag as he hurriedly put on ear plugs, the sound of combat already gone as he pressed the button. The metal grate of the sewers exploded behind them, even with the ear plugs the noise was almost too much, he felt his body vibrate from the force of it all. he took a glance back seeing it’s contorting form, the thing trying to cover it’s ears. It had a bird beak on the front, bald , extremely muscular with its brain exposed on top. It was the same one from the USJ attack.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

He had seen its face in articles too many times to not be certain of that. He threw a dagger at the brain case in desperation, picking up the detective who was covering his ears in pain. The knife pierced the glass puncturing its brain. It seemed to lull for a moment before it began to heal around the knife, Izuku began heading away in full sprint unable to pry his eyes away from the Nomu, its beady eyes staring right at him as it attempted to right itself, writhing in pain as it pulled at its ears. The thing blindly slammed into the walls of the sewers. The foundation crumbling around it. He threw another knife in the same spot, puncturing its brain, the thing halted it’s self mutilation for a few moments, but it began healing again despite the fact he had put all his force, even dropping the detective into the sewage water He strained to pick up the detective who was fighting him in his blind pain. The beast kept tearing at its ears, blood pouring out from its head, before it stopped suddenly staring right at him, before its ears grew back in place, and it began tearing at them again. Izuku took the time to procure the pair of ear plugs he had taken back from Eri, putting them into the detective's ears, who slowly seemed to regain himself. Izuku began to pull the man up, watching as the monster continued its self mutilation, pulling itself apart, before it in one swift motion punctured its own braincase, yanking its brain out before flopping over. He breathed heavily looking back at the detective that had been in charge of his arrest, he seemed much more disheveled, and has lost a lot of weight since their last meeting, but those eyes matched those of Tsukachi, the one that had been in charge of the quirkless trafficking case. "Sorry, for everything” but the man pointed to his earplugs, Izuku facepalmed, how stupid could he be. He began his journey back, Izuku motioning for the man to follow him, he didn’t know exactly what had just happened, but it seems that hawks had decided killing him had been worth the death of about 20 officers. He couldn’t risk visiting Dabi, nor going anywhere above ground, not with hawks still flying around up there. But he had one place he could go. He sighed already dreading the idea.

Hawks writhed in pain for what felt like eons, the loud blaring sound seemingly all encompassing. But when he could eventually stand, albeit with a throbbing headache, he saw a picture of pure carnage, most of the bodies unrecognizable. “Nomu return”

He waited, but when the hulking monstrosity didn’t come back he flew down, going through the giant hole in the road, his sense of sound slowly returning to him as he heard the dull sound of half broken sirens. But he found a sight he didn’t think possible, he saw the monster lying dead on the floor, its own brain matter crushed in its palms, with no sign of the kid he had been charged with getting rid of. “Fuck, they’re not gonna like this” he nearly threw up as the smell of death overtook him, but he swallowed it down, looking around he saw tiny marbles littering the floor, a mysterious logo on it, pocketing one he flew out. They weren’t going to like this. But he really wasn’t in the mood to chase a kid down the sewers right now. Sighing he flew away. So lost in thought he didn’t notice the camera pointed directly at him.

“Hatsume!” Shinsou yelled. Shaking her awake.

“Do you ever sleep?” she said groggily, noticing the time.

He ignored her turning on her T.V “You’ve got to see this”

It showed a disheveled woman, only half dressed for her job, eyes wild. “.. About to see is graphic, and not fit for general audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.. Play the damn clip! No I don’t give a damn if they’ll sue”

“As you all see It appears Hawks, the #1 Hero has killed multiple officers on camera, with the condition of Midoriya unknown, not to mention the claims made by wanted Criminal Izuku Midoriya. The HPSC has released an Official statement, here it is now.” She reads from the prompter “Anyone who reports on unsubstantiated rumors will be held in contempt for a blatant disregard to public safety. We at the Commission have always touted public safety above anything else. Any claims that we had used Nomu’s as weapons are unsubstantiated rumors. We are working to figure out the validity of any of these claims right now, please wait whilst we look into it.”

The woman cleared her throat looking at the person behind the camera. “This has increased Anti-hero sentiments, many calling for Government intervention. The Hosu police Branch has called this an act of terrorism, spreading the already thin department to a near breaking point. They have asked for More Support, and are Investigating the crime scene as we speak.”

Hatsume stared at the screen. “You know what this means!”

Shinsou nodded

“We’re going to Hosu”

They both ran around, packing everything they could. The air practically felt electric from all the excitement.

Shinsou grabbed his bag, fingers aching, he was so gonna punch that gremlin for almost dying.

“Hatsume did you?”

She waved him off “already have 30 babies looking for his location right now, if he appears anywhere near his hideout, we will know.”

Stepping into the warehouse, Izuku practically dragged the detective in, both on high alert. “This is the place”

Tsukachi looked concerned “An empty warehouse?”

Izuku opened the floorboard entrance, jumping in “Not quite. Although fair warning, you’re not gonna like what’s in here”

Tsukachi sighed “If you had told me I was gonna be running from the number one hero with a criminal this morning, I would’ve laughed in your face, I don’t think you could surprise me anymore than that.”

The kid shrugged “I warned you”

They arrived at the door, Izuku opening it lightly “Don’t freak out”

Tsukachi heard a gravelly voice answer “You didn’t bring that kid here did you?” Kid? He definitely didn’t have a kid with him earlier.

Then the door fully swung open, Red eyes staring right at him, a blade being forced to his neck almost immediately. “Stain..” he couldn’t believe his eyes. The hero killer who had gone silent for months.

The hero killer growled out “Why did you bring a detective here”

Izuku sighed “It’s a long story, but he’s not really in the situation to arrest either of us right now, seeing as how Hawks just tried to kill us both, and killed a lot of his friends.”

The hero killer looked between the two. “And the girl, the whole adoption plan?”

Izuku looked deep in thought. “They were attacked, Eri is safe with Dabi, but I don’t know about the other two.”

Tsukachi raised his hands. “They were being put into ambulances when I began chasing you, they were alive at least, can’t offer much past that.” Izuku noticed the blade still at Tsukachi’s throat, turning to glare at stain, who to his shock lowered the blades. “He leaves as quickly as possible, and next time warn me ahead of time,”

The boy looked sheepish, waving his hands apologetically “I lost my phone running from the Nomu, I didn’t realize until after the adrenaline wore off.”

“You got attacked by another NOMU!”

“Yea and Hawks seemed to control this one, It was the same one from the… from the USJ.”

This seemed to catch the Hero Killers attention “You’re certain?”

Izuku Nodded “No other Nomu looked like that, nor was that quick.. It had to have been.”

Stain seemed ready to run out the door. “And you survived, what of the beast?”

“It’s dead”

“You Killed it" the man's tone was impossible to place.

Midoriya for his part seemed all to casual "more like it killed itself."

Both of the criminals in front of him shared a silence.

Before the taller one patted the head of the younger "good job, little hero."

This seemed to take the kid by surprise, who just stared at the taller of the two.

Then the hero killer walked past them "Well I'm heading out."

Midoriya turned over worry written all over his face "what are you planning?"

The man growled out "to purge the world of a fake"

Izuku protested "you can't!"

"Oh I certainly can, after they dared to try and kill a true hero."

This left the younger one stunned, the older criminal leaving out of view.

Tsukachi stepped inside now for the first time, seeing the partially run down area. He noticed how the kitchen and living room were kept spotless, besides a few dishes, but a half cracked open room showed an utter mess of a room. "I'm already sleeping on the couch, so I don't really know where you can sleep.. but ah I can give you some blankets and pillows."

Tsukachi held up a hand "That won’t be necessary" but as he said it, the boy had already begun pulling everything out, lifting up the couch with ease, moving it across the room. Setting a little space on the edge of the room for him to sleep in. so Tsukachi laid on the cold floor, his body passing out near instantly. But even whilst resting, he couldn’t get the sight of his friend, disappearing into mist. That hulking monstrosity's expression unchanging, haunting him.
