Another evening, the air crisp with the descending fall grip, Cedric walked along with Daisy and Selena at his side. Daisy had her arm around him. He could smell her, soft fur, soap, and fresh linens. Selena was talking up a mile a minute.
"—And that's why I'm so interested in the illusionist club. They do so many cool things, you know?"
Cedric nodded quickly. "Illusions aren't my specialty, I'll admit." He worked at his collar with a straying finger. "But I can appreciate the art. It feels strange, making more fake things. I already am that."
Selena waved her hand to him. "But you're an interesting kind of fake. You're living and breathing, but not from here. You're like a character out of a storybook, with all the drama and action and love triangles, and all the great stuff!" She clasped her hands with a big smile. "Also, you're more unique than most people, and I respect that."
Daisy nodded slowly. "That's a very kind way of putting it." She ruffled Selena's hair lightly, stroking down the base of her ears, making her twitch. "You're cute, too. Cedric, where are you taking us? This is your night. We are at your mercy." She wriggled against him slowly.
Cedric gave a little laugh at that. "Oh, I know I'm asking for it, but I want to go out dancing. My body has been aching for me to get up and stretch, and I love moving to music."
Daisy perked at that. "Oh! That sounds, um. Actually, I've never danced before, and I'm not huge on loud strange music."
Selena swatted at the larger Daisy. "The music isn't that loud. It's nice folksy music to dance to. Come on! We get to show ourselves off for everyone else to see."
Daisy let herself be pushed along by Selena as they made their way to one of the taverns. The door was already open. They could hear some music playing inside. They stepped into the warm interior. Unlike her fears, the music came from a band of actual performers, with no electronic assistance. The volume wasn't as agitating as she had imagined.
Selena pointed out a seat that had been set aside. "That's the spot for those not dancing. I figured you'd want it." She reached down towards Cedric, touching his shoulder. "Come on, bunny boy. Let's show them how it is done."
Daisy settled at a table with a good view of the open space. She smiled as she watched the pair head in amongst the other dancers. They were soon moving and grooving with the flow of the music. Her foot tapped along with the beat as she nodded with it. "This isn't a bad tune."
A few songs later, Selena and Cedric settled down across the table from her. He gave a little wink to Selena. She returned the look before they both turned towards Daisy. Cedric took one hand while Selena held another and they looked up towards her. Just as the two looked ready to actually say something, a new palm slapped the table.
The arm attached to that belonged to a chainmail wearing male human with a scowl. "Hey there. You're pretty new. But I'm sure you've heard of me." His eyes narrowed. "You should buy me dinner."
Selena's tail lashed sharply behind her. "Beat it, we're busy."
Daisy eyed the man. "Right, not interested." The man's stats began to appear. For a change, it didn't start with breeding stats, instead how well he'd work with other family members, were he integrated, and how best to defeat him with that family, if it turned out that way.
He pointed to the door. "I'll have you know I am a world famous adventurer! I'm not even from this town."
Cedric slumped in his seat. "That doesn't make him sound impressive, right?"
"It does not." Daisy folded her arms. "But, mmf, what of it? We cleared our share of dungeons and killed a dragon, so what?" She internally berated herself for showing off, but what else to do didn't leap to mind.
The man laughed and clapped. "Well look at that, another dragon slayer in town. I did it too!"
Selena waved a hand. "No, I didn't."
Cedric shrank under the table, holding up a hand weakly. "Hey, I helped with the killing of a big thing, too."
Daisy reached to pull Cedric closer to her side defensively. "It was a team effort. So, what do you want?" She felt every nerve on edge. It was exactly the sort of confrontation she didn't like. "Do we have to go find a new dragon and prove who killed one first? We're not getting out of this without a fight, are we?"
Selena's tail lashed behind her. "If this is what you meant by dancing, I'll help."
The stranger raised both his hands. "Hold on, not here to pick a fight. You're a mouse, right? Not many mouse have your kind of look, you know? And you're big. So I wanted a closer look."
Daisy felt her cheeks color from that. "Oh. I guess that makes sense." She lowered her arms, letting go of Cedric to give the guy a better chance to get a look. "Stare if you want, but shoo. We're trying to enjoy the evening."
The adventurer turned to leave, but not before leaning in. "Maybe I'll run into you in the wilds sometime," he said with a wink.
She watched the man head towards some of his friends. "Ugh, the worst kind." Daisy let out a shuddering sigh, coming down from that tension. "I hate them. Hate them, hate them, hate them."
Selena nodded softly. "They can't help it, but some of them aren't all bad."
Cedric rubbed his face. "I'm not sure how to feel about that." He dared a little smile. "Is that why you liked me?"
"I have a dozen reasons at least." Daisy leaned in to kiss his cheek. "But being a quiet sort that just wants to do good is high on the list, yes."
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Cedric cleared his throat. "Um, as we were about to say, before we were so rudely interrupted."
Daisy leaned in, touching noses with Selena and Cedric, looking between the two. "I'm still listening. What is it?"
Selena took a deep breath. "You know we both like you, right? And that you're important to us? Well, I think we've both come around to liking each other, too." She swished her tail. "He likes a lot of things I like. Not big on fashion, but that's okay. And he hates a lot of the things I hate, so big points there."
Cedric nodded quickly, reaching out to touch Selena's hand. "It was a bit of a surprise, but I think we're good together." He looked up to Daisy. "So if you still feel the same way about her as you do me, well." He pointed to the door. "We could head back to the dorm."
Daisy stood and took Cedric into a big hug, lifting him off the ground easily, ignoring his noise of surprise. She could see the family tracker tick up to three, a tingle of pleasure racing down her back with it. "I'm feeling happy enough to try a dance, as awkward as I almost certainly will be with it." She leaned over to touch noses again. "But I'm glad you both agree. Let's head back to the dorm and get you two officially joined in."
Selena shivered happily as she looked up towards Daisy. "I don't know why, but I felt something. It was, what, like I just got through something, like beat a dungeon, and I'm looking at a huge treasure chest, and it's all mine. That kind of good. Am I making any sense?"
Cedric nodded quickly. "I know that feeling." He reached up to hold onto Daisy. "That's what I feel with this big mouse here every day."
Daisy gave them a squeeze, lifting the two to their feet. "We're all happy right now. But let's go over a few rules on the way back to the dorm." Daisy led the way down the road as they headed back towards the dorms.
Selena walked beside her. "Rules?"
Cedric grabbed Selena's hand, the closer to him. "For one, no means definitely not, ask later maybe. If one of us isn't in the mood, we say that, and the others accept that, because we care about each other."
Daisy beamed at that. "Glad to hear you already understand that." She turned and started walking backwards before them, looking between them with a smile. "But also, I don't want either of you feeling like you're not getting enough time and attention." She turned a hand and laid it on her chest as she went. "If you feel bad for any reason, just tell me. Don't hold it in, don't bottle it. Grab an ear if you have to, but get my attention." She smiled warmly at that. "Don't be afraid of being a pain to get my attention. I want it to work out for everyone."
Cedric rubbed the back of his head. "I couldn't even imagine doing that." He dared a smile. "Not that I've needed to. You're easy to get along with and fun to be around."
Daisy beamed at him. "And you are a sweetie pie." She leaned closer and gave him a gentle kiss on the forehead. "Don't change, okay?"
Selena burst into laughter. "You two are quite an item. I want to be that close." She reached back for her thick shark's tail. "You gave me these wonderful parts. I want to get closer, to learn and back you up." Her lips worked silently for a moment before she went on. "If I can make you happy, I want to try."
Cedric nodded slowly. "She is great. And I know this might be confusing to say, but don't worry about trying to get us in bed together."
Daisy wrinkled her nose as she twirled to face where she was going. "Glad to hear it. I like to think I have features besides any fun we have there."
Selena clasped her hands. "Like how amazingly wonderful her milk is, and how nice she is? And how smart she is? And how pretty she looks?"
"I'm just glad you two like me." Daisy brushed through her hair with her fingers. "And that you're not fighting over me, or arguing who loves me more, or anything. Let's not do contests like that." She stuck her tongue out at the thought. "We're all equal, okay?"
Cedric leaned in closer to Selena, voice dropping to a whisper, "You know she's the one in charge, right?"
Selena's cheeks warmed as she looked aside. "I know. She's pretty cool about it, though. I could see what some people are like, demanding all sorts of stuff and getting mad if you didn't do it." She felt over her human face a moment. "I don't all get it. She's so unique, but she doesn't revel in it. I would."
Cedric touched his own nose. "That's the way she is." He looked towards Daisy. "She's amazing. Don't try and make sense of it."
Daisy turned around with a puffed out chest and her head held high. "What are you two whispering about?" She opened the door to the dorm and waved inside. "Get in before the nip gets ya."
Selena skipped in behind Cedric, heading up the stairs to Daisy's room. "Oh, no need for that. You have us both."
Daisy closed and locked the door. She walked past the two to her bed, settling on it slowly. "Hum. I'm starting to see why they got us a bed this large." She rubbed at her cheek. "You okay sharing this with all of us? You do still have a room if you prefer."
Selena shook her head. "I want to spend as much time as I can with you." She crawled over Daisy's chest slowly, leaning closer and touching noses with her. "You're so pretty." She gazed into Daisy's eyes with clear fondness in her own. "I could do this forever. Like, seriously. Being with you feels so good!"
Daisy reached up to cup Selena's cheeks, holding them gently. "I'm glad you feel that way." She leaned her head to press their lips together gently, closing her eyes to just feel it. The two slumped in mutual delight, at least until a third snuggled in. Daisy pulled Cedric the rest of the way, turning it into a three way snuggle-fest. They cuddled slowly on the bed for several long minutes, just enjoying their company.
Daisy let out a contented sigh as she stretched slowly and sat back. "Alright, since you're comfy, you should tell them you're moving, and bring your things from your old room to this one."
Cedric rubbed his eye with a yawn. "I think I'm going to fall asleep first." He slowly crawled up to nuzzle under Daisy's chin. "That's okay, right?"
"Always." She wrapped one arm around him, eyes on Selena. "Go ahead and tell them, and get your stuff. You don't want them to get mad that you went without telling anyone."
Selena slowly got to her feet. "Yes, yes, I'll do it now. Then I'm going to sleep in too. And you can't make me do otherwise."
Daisy let her flee, ruffling Cedric's sides. "Now, truth time. Did you say yes just because Theo and I already said yes?"
Cedric let out a sigh as he sank into the warm embrace. "No, I actually like her." He rubbed his cheek slowly against Daisy's shoulder. "I was afraid of her at first, but she's so sweet now, I don't think I could say no."
Daisy let out a soft hum. "She isn't trying to outdo me now, so I have no arguments about her." She flicked one ear back. "I have a feeling she'll want more sips, but I think I'll avoid changing her anymore than I already have." She stroked down Cedric's back lightly. "It's all so much easier to get along, when you're all unique little snowflakes, isn't it?"
He nodded quickly. "I agree. At least, you know, for her." He touched noses gently with Daisy. "I'm alright just being a normal bunny."
