How Long?!

Saresan moved towards Daisy with a playful glimmer in her eye as she brushed her fingers through the mouse's fur, stroking her cheeks and the curve of her muzzle. "You're really soft, too, you know?"

Daisy stood up, warm in her cheeks. "We just met!" She coughed into a hand. "Sorry, I just prefer, if we can, get to know people before we move on towards, you know, more?"

Elina chuckled. "She isn't asking to bed you. Probably. But you are a pretty thing." She hiked her hands onto her hips. "Besides, you're taken, and so am I. This lab doesn't need a reputation as an orgy pit."

"Right." Saresan smirked at Daisy. "But you are cute, I can say that, right?" She hopped back a step, hands wandering over her new fur idly. "You made me so damn soft. I'm not sure if I love it or hate it."

Daisy blushed a bit and looked away. "I don't know if I want to say why I went for this, it was kinda random."

Elina giggled. "You did just give her two random species at once, how do you know it didn't go into a third."

"I didn't have time to mash in a third one." Daisy frowned at the thought. "Besides, Selana would get pissed if I made another wild chimera like her. That's her unique thing. I wouldn't take that from her, even if she never finds out."

Elina paused, then blinked and looked over at Saresan. "You know how to cure them?" she asked, as if just realizing something.

Daisy patted her breasts before moving to grab her armor and start covering them. "I decide what the mutagen is, remember? How I made you younger. If your sister wanted to be whatever, I could do it, in theory." Her ears twitched back. "Maybe you should pay me more."

Elina prodded Daisy's side with a pen. "You're already being paid well for your efforts, Miss. Now, I do want to examine that milk, but it isn't going anywhere. Sit down on the table, lay back, and let me have a look at you while you're here."

"Already?" Daisy squeaked, then took a few moments to calm herself. "Sorry, I don't know why this makes me nervous." She hopped onto the table, laying back on it, looking up at the ceiling. "This is my job." She sounded as if she was reminding herself as much as anything else. "Of course you can look."

Saresan chuckled and stroked her belly with one hand, letting her nails lightly graze over the fur. "I wonder what it would feel like if I were pregnant like you?" She looked towards Elina. "Do you want to?"

Elina paused and stared at her girlfriend for several seconds, then shrugged. "That's a complicated question I'm not drunk enough for."

Daisy snorted gently. "None of the creatures in this room are ready to get you pregnant, Miss. A bit forward to ask while Elina is trying to do her job."

Saresan smirked. "I know, but I just thought of it." She poked her new muzzle. "I've always been curious."

Elina shrugged. "I don't think we're ready for that kind of commitment yet." She leaned in over Daisy, examining her with a critical eye. "Besides, we wouldn't want to have to raise a child." She patted Daisy's belly, then put her stethoscope to it. "Hmm, strong heartbeat." She nodded to herself. "Two. You probably don't have twins. But I'm still not sure how much time is left."

Daisy smiled softly, but didn't reply to any of that. She turned her gaze to that looming pregnancy bar, promising her when the painful miracle would arrive. "So, question. Mothers don't normally know when they'll give birth, I assume, right?"

Elina shook her head. "No, they don't know. Most can tell the season it will be, if even that. A pregnancy in the wild is a difficult and dangerous time for most species." She wagged that pen. "Fortunately for us, civility offers many safeguards during such delicate times. Now, a question. When did you get pregnant, and what by?"

Daisy sighed gently. "I ran into another brood mouse. Things got, um, heated, then—"

Saresan snickered from where she was leaning against the wall, her new tail curling behind her.

Elina put a hand on Daisy's belly, leaning in over her at the same time. "You ran into another?! And this is the first time I'm hearing of it? Tell me more!"

"Damn." Daisy flicked an ear. "Her name was Daphne. She seemed mostly sane. She was really angry I was there, at first. Figured I was trying to take her dungeon."

"Huh." Elina looked thoughtful for a moment. "Interesting. You should have told me sooner, but that's fine. This is interesting."

Saresan raised a brow. "Okay, that was weird to hear. I'll get used to this new voice of mine." She rubbed her voice, giving a few experimental las just to hear herself.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Daisy smiled at the experiments. "We got to talking, then got, um, friendly. And now I have her kid. She was curious what would happen if two brood mice did that."

Elina's eyes went wide as she looked at Saresan. "We could use this!" She grinned with excitement. "If we can find more brood mice, we could make our own supply of mutagens."

Daisy's cheer faded. "I am not giving my children to you as milking factories. That would be super bad mothering on my part."

"Maybe." Elina tickled along Daisy's rounded belly. "Now when was this exactly? How long have you been hiding this from me?"

"Just, mmm, half a week ago actually." Daisy let out a soft breath as she was touched, shivering a little bit at the sensation of warm fingertips against her bare fur.

Elina leaned back, surprise on her face. "Half a week? You look many months further along than half a week. Brood mice must..." She raised a brow. "You said this other brood mouse was a she. How did she even do this?"

Saresan laughed from her spot against the wall. "She can't have been all female. She must be some kind of hermaphrodite to have done it." She shook her head slowly. "I think you should go back and see if she wants to be part of the project."

Daisy coughed gently. "She likes it in her dungeon. That invite would go denied, I feel sure. But, uh, yes. She was just as male as she had to be for just as long to get it done."

"And that's why." Elina tapped that round belly. "Your new friend did this on purpose. People who end up with monsters sometimes end up like this, popping in a week, month, or even hours from the time of the incident. She wanted to know what would happen, and had no patience. And now, here we are."

Saresan nodded along. "And how are you?" she asked Daisy, "I'm kind of curious about this."

"Curious?!" Daisy squeaked and covered her mouth. "I'm going to be a mother." One ear fell. "This is a new experience for a guy, but I don't plan to mess it up. Is there someplace I should go when it's time?"

Elina smiled softly. "The church has a clinic that will care for you, and will be able to make any needed arrangements once the baby's out. I don't think it will be a problem." She trailed up to the bottom of Daisy's chestplate and pulled it down to cover her properly. "But, I am your doctor. You could come here, and I would gladly play that role."

Saresan nodded. "I'd like to be there, too." She smiled at Daisy. "Just for moral support."

Daisy blushed slightly as she adjusted herself so that her breasts were no longer hanging out of her armor. "You just want to see it, I imagine." She slid to her feet, tail whipping. "Did you want to see anything else? If not, I'm gonna go home."

Elina looked over at the jars with a grin. "Nope, I think we can let you leave."

Saresan smirked. "I want to see a lot more."

"You're not my boss." Daisy stuck out her tongue, then fled as quickly as her paws allowed her, just to get caught up in wooly arms.

Saresan drew Daisy back into a hug from behind. "Why are you running away?"

"I am just shy." Daisy leaned back against Saresan, letting herself be supported by her. "It's a big change for me."

Saresan smiled. "I think it's good for you." She kissed one of Daisy's large, if sagging, ears. "Sister talks about you a lot. Let her keep studying you. You seem to be enjoying it."

Daisy let out a breath and nodded slowly. "I can deal with this, yeah." She reached down to run her hand over the curve of her belly. "But I don't want my child in danger."

Elina took a step closer. "And I wouldn't want that. I want them, and you, to both be healthy and happy." She looked towards Saresan. "Now please let my patient leave. It seems like every time you people are together you end up cuddling."

Saresan snickered softly and let go of Daisy, giving her a pat on the back as she did.

Daisy slid forward, no longer hindered. "Um." She turned, trying to look at Saresan but not meeting their eyes for very long. "It's not that I dislike you. You seem nice, and you're even cuter now. It's, um..." She squirmed a bit in place. "I don't know how to describe it. Sorry."

Saresan smiled gently at Daisy, then patted her arm. "You'll figure it out."

Daisy flipped her ears back a moment before she forced them up. "I'm adjusting to this world, where touches are expected. I come from a much more repressed one. I was a man." Her tail brushed against Saresan. "It isn't bad here, I feel like a freak a lot of the time."

"You're not a freak." Saresan reached out and touched Daisy's cheek, cupping it with her palm.

"Yes she is," cut in Elina with a smirk. "That's why I hired her. But being a 'freak' isn't always a bad thing. It's just different, and difference can be very good." She winked at Saresan. "Take my girlfriend here. She's a sheep-bear hybrid. I think that's pretty freaky, but it's fun too."

Daisy took a step back. "You won't know that until I get out of your way. Thanks, Saresan." She walked away with a little wave. "Have fun, I guess?"

"We will!" Saresan called after her as she left the lab.

The door opened, and Daisy walked out into the hall, her black-furred ears twitching. She looked up and down the hall, considering her next target.

"Daisy?"

She looked towards the voice as a feline approached her. "Dhiren? It's been a while."

"Too long, clearly." His eyes were on her rounded belly. "I've missed a lot, clearly. Monster, or paramour?"
