Safety

"We can go back to the Adventurers Guild, and see if there are any jobs posted." She smiled at her. "Or we can just explore the city. There's a lot to see here." She took a sip of water, and then put her glass down. "I know a lot of places to explore. I can show you around."

Daisy smiled at her and nodded. "That sounds good. Let me clear things up." She began gathering all the dishes they'd used, bussing their table.

"Excuse me, ma'am," a voice came from beside them. They turned to see a tall, slim woman, with long, black hair and green eyes. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but you're a brood mouse, right?"

Daisy folded her ears back. "I have not had any broods, but I am a mouse, with a name." She huffed gently. "What's up?" She moved to ferry her dishes aside to be cleaned by the staff.

"My apologies." She looked down. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to intrude. My name's Elina, I'm a researcher at the University. I just wanted to say, you're a very rare creature, and we'd love to study you at the University."

Daisy inclined her head at that. "Really? Well, I'm Daisy. That's Sally." She pointed to the girl waving back at them. "And why is everyone so fascinated with a big-titted mouse? Seriously, I'm not that fascinating, am I?"

Elina looked her over. "Yes, you are. Your form is unique, your body is incredible, and you're a brood mouse, which are extremely rare." She reached into a pouch on her hip and pulled out a small vial. "May I take a sample?"

Daisy eyed the vial. "Sample of what?"

"Your milk, of course." She smiled. "It's very valuable, and we'd like to study it. We'd also like to study you. We'd pay, of course. If you're interested."

Daisy colored at the thought. "I've become a lab mouse."

Elina slid in closer. "Would you? We'd love to bring you on board. You'd get paid a good sum, and we'll learn more about brood mice, which are rare, and you, which are rarer yet. Please?"

Daisy blushed at that, and she couldn't help but smile. "Only if you answer some of my questions."

Sally hopped to her feet. "Looks like you found a place to be. I'm very happy for you, but I'll be going."

Daisy frowned. "But I wanted you to come with me."

Sally shook her head. "Sorry, I have other business to attend to. Maybe I'll see you later, after I've had a chance to finish what I need to." She waved with a bright smile. "After being cooped up for so long, I have a million things to catch up on!"

Daisy slumped. "Alright. Good luck!" She waved back, then turned to Elina. "So, let's do this." She took the vial from her, then looked at her.

Elina pointed to the same exit Sally had just used. "If you prefer, we can wait until we're in a more private place. There are less other people in a university lab room."

Daisy blushed. "Good idea." She got up and walked out, followed by Elina. They headed to a building that was large and imposing, made of stone and wood. The building was surrounded by a high wall, with a gate in the center. The sign read 'University of Raela'.

"This is it," Elina said as she led them through the gate. She led them through a large door, into an entryway with several hallways and doors. "And here's my office." She pressed a key to the door. It glowed, as did the door along with a soft click from within it. Then she opened it. Inside, there was a desk, several bookshelves, and a few chairs. On the desk was a stack of papers. "Have a seat. Make yourself comfortable."

Daisy stepped inside with a mildly curled tail. "Huh, neat." She eyed the many books, pondering a moment about snatching one or two, but she opted instead to trail after Elina towards her desk. "Are you a professor here?"

"No, I'm a researcher." Elina smiled. "I work here, studying things, and I'm part of a larger group that studies things. I'm not a teacher. Now, I have a lot of questions for you." She pointed to a chair on the other side of the desk. "Were you born a brood mouse, or were you transformed into one?"

Daisy blinked. "Transformed, obviously. I was, um, a guy. I was a human man. Now I'm a busty mouse girl."

"Oh! I didn't realize." Elina looked at her again. "I'm sorry. So you're not a brood mother, or a mother at all?"

The blush only grew worse in Daisy's cheeks. "I am not a mother. I'm, uh, still a virgin, actually." She fidgeted in place. "Is that a problem?"

"No, no, it's not. But it's interesting." She wrote something down on a piece of paper, and then looked up. "Can you tell me about your transformation? Where you were, what happened, how it felt?" She lifted her quill. "You already mentioned human, but what triggered it and so on."

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

"Well, I was playing a game on the internet, and I chose to become a character from the game, and now I'm her. In real life." She shrugged. "It just happened." She folded her arms under her chest. "I don't really mind it, looking back, but I am trying to figure out how things work."

"Hmm." Elina looked at her, then wrote something down on a paper on the desk. "And how did it feel?"

"It felt, um, good? Nice, I guess. I can't really describe it." Daisy frowned, clearly unsatisfied with her own answer. She shrugged. "I felt a rush, and things started to change. Each change was a rush, it was confusing, but exciting. No pain, other than clothes that didn't get out of the way fast enough."

"I see. That's very interesting." Elina wrote down a few more notes, and then looked at her again. "Do you know how to cast any spells?"

"No, not really." Daisy frowned. "I never tried." She set down a hand on the desk and flexed her arm. "I showed up and I was already beefy, so I kind of rolled with that. The guild said my class was warrior, and I haven't had a lot of a reason to argue it. I beat a dragon and a bunch of monsters on the way, just swinging a knife and such."

"A dragon?" Elina looked impressed. "You're a very powerful woman." She paused to write something down again. "Now, you are a brood mouse without any broods. Have you considered addressing that? Brood mice mature with their first litter."

"I don't even know where I'd start with that." Daisy chuckled, her tail swaying. "I've never been a parent, and I'm not entirely sure if I'd want to be." She shrank a little. "There's also the part where I'd need to have a guy, and be alright with the guy doing what guys do." She could easily envision that part, having been a guy herself. "Though I've gotten a lot of attention from ladies recently."

Elina smiled. "That's not a bad thing. And yes, a man would be needed to help you with that." She wrote some more. "You're a virgin, so that would have to be addressed first."

Daisy colored. "Y-yeah, kind of part of the same thing, but why are we focused on that? Aren't you a researcher, not a breeder?"

"I'm studying you. I'm trying to help you, and you're a very unique individual." She smiled. "Your transformation was very unusual. You may be able to provide insight that we don't currently have." She scribbled a new note. "There are no known mutagens that cause a brood mouse transformation. That's part of what makes them so rare. So I'm studying you, to understand why and how you came to be."

Daisy nodded, feeling more than a little awkward at the intense scrutiny. She was being studied, and that felt a little off. "What I'm being paid for," she muttered to herself. "Speaking of that, how much am I actually being paid? I can get twenty gold per bottle." She patted at her sizable mammaries. "and I think I can fill a few pretty easily, probably every day. So if you want to study me as a subject, what's the compensation?"

Elina smiled. "Well, we'll pay you fifty gold for your time. Plus, we'll take care of your needs, and we'll provide you with room and board. And we'll make sure you're taken care of, and safe. As an aside, we can purchase and resell your milk. You'll be entitled to 80% of the proceeds, without having to find your own buyers."

Daisy nodded, and then paused, counting on her fingers. "That's a good deal. How long is the contract? I mean, I'm not sure how long I'll be here, or how long this, um, transformation, will last." She gestured at herself.

Elina leaned forward. "We hope to keep you away from any mutagens. Losing you would be a terrible loss. The contract is for as long as you are willing, and the pay is accrued daily, to be paid out on a bi-weekly basis. If you leave, the remainder of the term's pay is forfeit."

Daisy nodded. "Sounds reasonable. I guess I'll sign, but only because you aren't asking for anything too weird."

Elina paused at that. "You'll have to define 'too weird'. I love this world as much as anyone else, but it does have a habit of getting a bit interesting at times." A small blush dusted her cheeks, and Daisy's blush returned to her own. "The first thing would be to get a sample of your milk." She pulled out the vial again, and then held out a hand.

Daisy pulled down her bodice, allowing her breasts to spill free. She took the vial and gently expressed herself into it. She'd done it enough by then that she didn't need much help, and soon enough the vial was filled, the cap on. "Still surprises me, how different it is when I do it versus when someone else does it." It still felt a little nice, but just a little. When someone else did it, it was far better.

Elina smiled. "That's very nice. Thank you. We'll take that and test it, and see what it tells us."

Daisy nodded, pulling her bodice back up. "Is that all for today?"

"Yes, that's it." Elina stood, going to the door. "I'll show you to your room. You can get settled, and we'll begin tomorrow."

Daisy got up from the chair and followed Elina out of her office. The researcher led her down a hallway, and then to a door that had a plaque with her name. "This is your room. It's not large, but it's yours."

Daisy pointed at the plaque without going past it. "You just hired me, how did this get here so fast?" She looked at the plaque, and the door, then at Elina, and back at the door. "Magic?"

"Magic, yes. There are a lot of students and researchers, and the rooms have to be changed frequently." She smiled. "Your room will be here, though. For as long as you stay." She pointed to the side. "The bed's basic, but you are free to purchase new furnishing if you want. It is your room, to do with as you please so long as you don't interrupt the rest of the university."

Daisy nodded. "That's fair, thank you." Daisy stepped into the room, and Elina closed the door behind her. The bed was a simple bed, and a desk and chair were set against the far wall. She'd been given a bedroom, not an apartment, but she didn't know how long she'd be staying. "Being a university, gonna guess there are community dining halls and places to shower and things like that?"

"Yes." Elina's voice came from the hallway. "And you're welcome to use them. The dining hall is open all the time, and there are showers and baths in the basement." The footsteps moved away. "Enjoy yourself."

"Thanks, I think I will." Daisy grinned as she began to strip down. She needed to stretch her legs, and she needed to relax.

She flopped down onto the bed and sighed. It was only then that she realized she hadn't taken off her leather armor since she had first gotten it, and it wasn't terribly comfortable. She rolled to her front and stretched her legs, stretching out her body and letting herself relax. She was alone, and she was safe. No one was going to hurt her.
