Daisy turned, and left. "I'll do my best, that'll do." She hurried down the hall, only to bump almost headlong into the professor that had stopped by her room the night prior. "Oh, sorry, professor! I was just going to class. I'll be in your care!"
"You?" She raised an eyebrow. "You aren't a student. You're an experiment."
Daisy raised her schedule into view. "But what if I went for both?" She turned it so the professor could see. "I'll be in your care, professor."
"Oh dear." She sighed. "I have to say, I'm glad Theodoren didn't hurt you, and that you're not upset, but now I'm going to have to keep an eye on you in my class, too. I'm sure you're a nice young lady, but I really don't need to be doing that."
Daisy lifted an ear. "I'll try not to be in the way, Professor. Oh, what's your name? I don't think I got that." Daisy's eyes narrowed. "I'm sorry, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. I'm just excited."
The professor sighed. "My name is Professor Valermouka, but most just call me Val."
Daisy nodded at Val. "A pleasure to meet you. If you're worried, I don't plan to solve lesson problems with violence. I'm here to learn."
"Good." She looked at Daisy. "We'll see how you do in the class." Val smiled. "Welcome to the school." She then pointed. "That way. You'll be late if you dawdle."
"Right!" She jogged off, leaving the Professor to watch her go. She was excited to start her classes. She found the classroom and slipped inside, finding her way to a seat at the back. The other students were already there.
As she sank into a seat that was clearly a size too small for her, she realized with dread that she'd have to manually write things. She paled at the very idea of it, but her dread was interrupted.
"Well, look at that," the teacher's voice came from the front. The teacher was a male owl with a thick coat of feathers and an even thicker pair of glasses on his beak. "We have a new student today. Would you care to introduce yourself to us, who we know whooo you are?" It was unclear if that was a pun or a forced sound.
"Sure." Daisy rose, bowed politely, then straightened. "My name is Daisy. I'm a warrior. I've decided to become a mage, too. I'm also an experiment for a different professor." She laughed tensely. "Nice to meet you all." She bowed again, then sat down, tail nervously lashing. She had not expected the teacher to single her out.

The teacher laughed. "Well, welcome to the class, Daisy. I hope you enjoy your time here. Now, as we left off—"
She didn't even have a quill, or a paper. Daisy cringed before an idea came to her. She put up her hands in a typing motion and a keyboard only she could see sprang into being. She typed the notes and they were stored obediently in whatever space carried her sheets and other information. She had a little smile. It worked.
She was distracted, though. She had been a student before, but not for many years. This was an academic environment, and she felt a bit uncomfortable. At least, that time, she had a keyboard. She thanked the un-specified gods of that world as she hurried her motions.
"Daisy?"
She started, focusing on the teacher instead of just his words. "Yes?"
"Your hands are making curious motions. Is that magic? There is to be no magic performed mid-class unless instructed to do so. Do not make me repeat myself."
Daisy flushed. "I'm sorry. I'm taking notes. I didn't think that was magic." She was embarrassed, and she didn't know what to say.
He inclined his head sharply, as only a bird could. "Oh. Then carry on." He turned away, resuming his lesson. Daisy went back to her notes. She didn't have to worry about not being fast enough to take them. She could type like a demon, and that was what mattered.
At the end of the class, she started as a finger prodded her side and she turned to find Cedric looking at her. "Hey, Daisy, right? Are you really a student now?"
She smiled. "I am." She rose and followed him from the class. "You're probably not a first year like me though.
He chuckled, rubbing at his neck. "I'm in my second year." He nodded. "You might even say I'm a second-year janitor."
She laughed at that. "Fair. Are you enjoying your studies?"
He nodded. "Yes, I am." He leaned in. "May I see your schedule? Maybe we have some classes together, and I could show you the way."
She offered him her schedule. "Sure."
Cedric took the paper and read it over. "We have a few classes in common. That should make it easier for you to get around. I can show you where the next class is on this, and then we can meet up between the ones we both share. He was smiling brightly. "This should help."
She smiled back. "Thank you, Cedric." She nodded at him, tail swaying a little. She was glad to see that he wasn't afraid of her, or didn't want to hang out. "What are you doing for lunch?"
He blinked at her, then grinned. "I was going to get some food." He rubbed his head. "I mean, that's what everyone does." He chuckled. "Do you have lunch plans?"
"No." She leaned in. "But you know where to go, and I do not." It was as much of a hint she could think to throw. "Can you show me the way?"
"Of course!" He grinned at her. "We can go together. I'd be happy to do that."
