When they got to school Anne insisted they visit Jo, so with the ten minutes they had before registration they went to the canteen. True to form, Jo was sitting alone, this time listening to music.
They sat either side of her up on the table as it appeared was Jo's norm.
"Hi Jo, this is Abby." Jo waved and threw an all too knowing look at Anne.
"Erm, we do this movie night at our house once a month and wondered if you might like to join us? My dad has a projector up in the loft and we all bring popcorn and beanbags and sit and watch old movies. It's this Saturday." Anne babbled, distracted by the thought that Jo was way too observant.
"We were going to have the Rocky Horror Picture Show but I thought you might think we were putting on for you so I thought we would ask what you would like. We could watch another monty python movie, the girls all loved the last one." She shut up when she noticed Jo was smirking.
"Believe it or not, I have never seen Rocky Horror so I'm fine with that. As long as the others don't mind me coming along?" She asked levelly.
"I squared it with them, they're all good. I told them you were cool."
"No pressure!" Abby said from the side.
"No, I mean… Oh God I'm fucking this up." Anne said. "Anyway, it's Saturday night, some of the girls sleep over so you can too if you like, just bring a bed roll and a sleeping bag. Six PM, dad makes pizza so erm… bring any toppings you like."
She looked at Abby who was grinning at her, "Yeah, erm, cool, bye."
She went to get up and Jo said "Hold on." Anne stopped dead. "What's the address?" Anne let out a breath and Abby giggled. Jo got out a jotter and let Anne write her address inside the back cover.
The bell rang and they each hurried to their respective registration classrooms.
Both girls went through the day on a high, even Mrs Mackey’s english class couldn’t sully their mood. They kept looking across the classroom at each other and smiling, a slight blush coming to their faces.
They sat together at lunch, the cramped quarters in the canteen allowing them an excuse to sit close, legs pressed together.
“So what happened to you two this morning, we missed you on the bus.” Heather asked.
“Oh, I just slept in and Anne came and got me.” Abby dismissed the question. “Does anyone have any better homework for Physics? I copied Anne’s but it's awful.” she asked, sidetracking the conversation neatly.

Susan produced her homework, done with neat handwriting in purple pen. Susan really liked physics and she always got top marks so when Anne and Abby copied the homework they had to make sure to use a few of Anne’s wrong answers. This too was an excuse to be close, Anne almost hugging Abby as she crowded in over her shoulder to be able to read the jotter.
“Jo is up for Rocky Horror by the way.” Anne said as she rewrote her homework. “Just, be tactful will you? I don't want to scare her off.”
“Sure, we will be on our very best behaviour, I promise. No inappropriate comments.” Susan said, “That is, unless she starts it. If she flirts with me I can't guarantee I won't reciprocate.” Anne couldn't tell if she was joking but took the comment at face value.
The rest of the day sailed by, both of the girls did however almost drift off to sleep during Mr Tom’s maths lecture. In their defense, so did half the class, his voice was a soporific. Abby had once joked that she should record his lectures and play them at bed time to guarantee a good night's sleep.
By the time they stepped off the bus both girls needed a nap, the sleepless night catching up with them. Anne chose to walk Abby home, only noticing half way that she was holding her hand. When they parted ways at Abby’s house, Abby had looked furtively around before leaning in for a brief kiss goodbye. Anne watched as she closed the front door before giving a little squeal and, for the second day in a row, running all the way home.
This time when she arrived home she sought out her sister and almost dragged her to her bedroom. "I kissed her!" She whispered, her sister's eyes widened. "So you're definitely not moving schools!"
The story flooded out, her sister wringing every little detail from her, she didn't know how she could be so tired but buzzing with energy. "And then she kissed me goodbye." She bit her lip to stop herself for going squeeee.
"So you are a lesbian?" Her sister asked amused.
"I don't know." Her sister said with a puzzled expression.
"Oh come on! You kissed your best friend, multiple times, you liked it, you have to admit you like girls now." Her sister insisted.
"Yeah, but I don't feel like I want to jump her bones, perhaps a nice long make out session but… it's nice but not… horny?" Anne trailed off.
Her sister pulled her own hair, looking skyward for guidance. "Well, it's a start. At least she's hot. And she shaves." She said, trying to get a rise from Anne.
Anne playfully punched her sister's shoulder. "When did you see my girlfriend naked? You pervert!" And instantly realised what she said and bit down on her knuckles. "I said that, didn't I?" Her sister nodded. "Oh shit. Ohshitohshitohshit. Are we? Should I ask her?" Her eyes were wide and panicked.
"If you're not ready to come out, don't text her. Someone will see, guaranteed. I'm surprised it isn't all round school already with how you two are behaving!" Kelly suggested.
"Yeah, yeah you're probably right. We should be more careful. Should I call her? Would that seem desperate?" She fretted.
"Probably." Kelly answered and quickly left the room.
"Probably what? Probably would seem desperate or probably should call? Dammit Kelly!" She cursed at the closed door.
'Hold on, should I shave?' she thought, just having processed Kelly's previous comment. 'no, I'm not planning on having sex with her.' she answered herself, 'but what if it just happens, shit stop having stupid conversations in your head!'
