Chapter 82: Assist

You are Tired

Debuff: Regeneration of Health Stamina and Mana decreased by 10%

Duration: 60 minutes

Zane didn’t need to look at his status to know he was affected by the tired debuff. His body and mind felt drained despite having recovered all of his energy. Zane had been fighting mana creatures for hours. He used a large portion of stamina and mana, recovered the energy he used, and then used it again.

Draining and recovering energy wasn’t something Zane could do without rest. Eventually his body and mind would demand a break from him. Of course, there were ways to ignore and overcome his bodies need for rest. One way was drinking stamina juice.

Item Name: Stamina Juice

Item Type: Beverage

Tier: 0

Description: Water infused with a small amount of stamina potion.

Abilities: Increases alertness, reduces fatigue, and energizes the body.

Stamina Juice would get rid of Zane’s tired debuff the first time he drank the beverage. However, the debuf would quickly reappear after a few more battles. Also, the effects of the Stamina Juice would decrease the second time Zane drank it. Therefore, it was in Zane’s best interest to avoid drinking the Stamina Juice for as long as possible.

Currently Zane was resting behind the walls with Sophie and the others. The teams assigned to the two attacking groups were resting while the teams assigned to two of the defending groups took their place. This was a planned decision that everyone agreed to. The adventurers that were a part of the defending group practically demanded that they be sent to the battlefield after the fourth attack.

The defenders were confident in their ability to fight when they were away from the wall. They were eager to fight after spending hours watching adventurers in the attacking group kill the majority of the mana creatures. Also, there were multiple ways for them to protect their lives when they were on the battlefield.

Letting the defenders fight gave Zane and the other adventurers in the attacking group the time they needed to recover. However, while men plan the system laughs. Fifty minutes after Zane started resting, Sophie received a message from the communication sphere.

“The elven defenses are being destroyed,” Sophie announced.

“I’m not surprised,” Shane said. “They didn’t use craftsmen to create their defenses, so it makes sense that their defenses are so weak.”

“They’re asking for volunteers to assist the elven.”

Silence, scoffs and a few empty laughs was the only answer Sophie received. Nobody liked the elven, so volunteering to help was out of the question. Sophie simply nodded her head and put the communication orb to the side without trying to convince anyone. Sadly, Zane’s group would have to help the elven whether they wanted to or not.

A few seconds after Sophie put the communication orb to the side, she received another message. She told everyone they were randomly chosen to help the elven. Naturally, nobody was happy about it.

“Bullshit,” Britney said. “Tell them we said hell no.”

“We’re able to protect our inn, so how come the elven can’t protect their own.” Jason added.

“I don’t think refusing is a good idea,” Sophie said.

“You’re right, it isn’t a good idea,” Old Saber agreed. “If we refuse then another team can refuse as well, and a lot of time will be wasted on trying to get a team. During that wasted time the elven will be under pressure and might fail to protect the inn. This will negatively affect everyone’s quest.”

“I guess that means were helping,” Zane said with a frown.

Reluctantly, everyone took out a Stamina Juice and started drinking. Zane knew the duration for the tired debuff would slowly increase once he started moving and it would stop increasing once the duration reached sixty minutes. Since the elven urgently needed help Zane and the others couldn’t wait until the final few minutes of the tired debuff ran out.

“Eyes up,” A woman shouted. “Birds incoming!”

Looking up Zane saw a flock of flying mana creatures approaching the inn. There were eagles, ravens, bats, giant lady bugs, and other types of mana creatures. The defenders on the wall immediately burst into action to prepare for the incoming attackers.

“They finally came,” Brad stated. “Unlike last time they won’t be catching us with our pants down. We’ll be able to pay them back for the lives they took last time.”

“Looks like we were going to fight one way or another,” Sam said.

“Maybe not,” Frank added. “The craftsmen saved some magic items to use against the flying mana creatures. By the time they finish launching all their magic items, I’m sure that at least half of the mana creatures will be killed and the duration for the tired debuff would have ended for most adventures.”

“Doesn’t matter,” Sophie interjected. “Our battle is with the elven, not here. Let’s keep our minds focused on that.”

Quickly, Zane and the others arrived at the inn the elves were protecting. A portion of the walls on the battlefield were destroyed and Zane’s group was in charge of killing the extra mana creatures that got through. The group quickly formulated a plan and began attacking the mana creatures that were close to the wall protecting the inn.

Readying his axe Zane began chopping down any mana creatures that appeared in front of him. The axe he used was the same lightning axe he used during the first attack. The axe was made out of yellow wood and had a copper color blade.

Currently, Zane was level sixty-nine, and he started the seventh attack at level sixty-five. Although Zane was able to obtain a weapon with a higher level, he chose to keep the level fifty-two weapon that he was already familiar with. It would take time for him to adjust to a new weapon and he thought it was best to wait until after the Upheaval ended. Also, Zane didn’t see a weapon at his level that would give him a significant increase when he went to the market.

Dire Turtle Lvl 62

Stamina: 89%

Mana: 100%

Attack: (404) 626

Defense: (450) 698

The first mana creature Zane fought was the dire turtle. The turtle was large and slightly taller than Zane. Its shell was dark brown, and its skin was an angry red. Zane could see the bloodthirst in its eyes, but he wasn’t intimidated by it.

Jumping to the side Zane dodged the dire turtle’s initial attack. It stretched out its neck in attempt to bite Zane in two. With a clear opening Zane brought his axe down and cleanly chopped through the turtle’s neck. The turtle’s head flew away from its body and blood started to gush out of the wound. After the body collapsed, Zane turned his attention to the next mana creature.

Dire Crocodile Lvl 63

Health: 98%

Stamina: 90%

Mana: 100%

Attack: (450) 698

Defense: (430) 667

Using its tail as a whip, the crocodile nocked the corpse of the turtle out of the way. Like the turtle the crocodile was taller than Zane. The crocodile was dark green, lumbering forward with its sharp teeth bared.

Zane stepped directly toward the dire crocodile and immediately jumped to the side when he saw its muscles tense up. The crocodile lunged into the space Zane originally occupied and created an opening for Zane to attack from the side. Before Zane could take advantage of the opening, the crocodile used its tail to attack Zane’s side.

Raising his axe, Zane planted his feet and chopped into the incoming tail. Zane’s axe bit into the tail, but the force pushed him back two steps. The crocodile roared in pain and immediately pulled its tail away.

The sudden action almost pulled Zane and his axe away. Strengthening his stance, Zane stopped moving and managed to remove his axe from the crocodile’s tail. Less than a second later, Zane jumped back and narrowly dodge another attack from the crocodile.

Whipping its head around, the dire crocodile attempted to clamp its jaws around Zane’s body. After dodging, Zane responded with an attack of his own. He used a portion of his strength to slam his axe into the upper jaw of the crocodile. Once he felt his attack sunk into the crocodile, Zane quickly removed his axe and stepped away.

Roaring in pain and anger, the dire crocodile tried to lunge at Zane again. Spinning to the crocodiles left Zane brought its axe down on its left front leg. The crocodile fell and Zane jumped onto its back as he brought his axe down into right side of its neck.

Jumping on the crocodile, Zane watched as the crocodile tried and failed to attack him. It whipped its tail onto the spot Zane was originally at and twisted his head in attempt to bite him. As a result, the crocodile twisted its body until it was on its back.

As it tried to get back on its three remaining legs Zane calmly approached it from the left. The moment the crocodile was on its stomach Zane jumped forward and chopped into its neck. The crocodile that was struggling to get onto its three legs was sent crashing back into the ground. Seeing the two huge wounds on each side of its neck, Zane knew the crocodile wouldn’t last much longer. Zane took a final glance at the dying mana creature and moved on to the next enemy.
