As the morning of the next day arrived, Tianyu was preparing for the day ahead. He had gone over his map and selected which red zone to head towards next. He was going to be bringing his new bow today, as he wanted to get some experience with using one on live targets.
Really, he wanted to leave it up to one of his avatars to train on his behalf, Unfortunately for Tianyu, without having a bow technique, he couldn't leave it up to an avatar. He would have to do this the old-fashioned way.
As he was preparing, something unexpected happened and there was a noise from outside. Knowing that no wildlife would be able to approach because of the wards placed on the building, it had to be caused by a person. Tianyu pulled out his weapon and peered through one of the windows.
Outside the Pagoda was an unexpected sight, it was a young girl who looked quite haggard and distressed. She seemed to be about 13-14 years of age and quite pretty. her long dark hair was very disheveled with leaves and twigs mixed in and her once rather expensive-looking white robe with a red trim was now riddled with dirt. As she stumbled towards to pagoda with hope filling her eyes she called out.
"Hello? Is anyone there? Please help!" She seemed rather desperate.
Tianyu opened up the door and stepped out. He quickly scanned the area, untrusting of strangers. "What's the matter?" he skipped the formalities.
"Please... My elder sisters... Wolves..." She pointed in the direction she came, before collapsing into a heap.
A little disappointed about having his plans for the day interrupted, he picked up the little girl and took her inside. Closing and locking the door behind him, he set off in the direction that the girl indicated.
It didn't take too long before he could start hearing a commotion. Howling in the distance giving away the location of the pack. He quickly approached the area passing by the corpses of some wolves on the way.
As he was getting closer, he could now hear the sounds of combat. Coming to a clearing everything came into view. There were two girls standing in the center of a clearing back-to-back with swords drawn, surrounded by many wolves. The girls were in a sorry state, desperately clinging on, while the wolves were circling around, taking little nips and scratches from their blind spots. The girls were wearing the same style of robe as the one from earlier, except covered with blood stains and torn apart.
Every time one of the wolves went for an attack, one of the girls in turn would swing a sword to counterattack. It seemed like this worked for a while due to the injuries on many of the wolves. But wolves are smart and will change their approach. One wolf would feint an attack, making the girl swing in defense, but another wolf would coordinate and lash out when she was off balance.
It was truly fascinating to see how well and coordinated the wolf pack was, and how quickly they adapted.
Unfortunately for the pack of wolves though, Tianyu was in a bad mood. His training had already been interrupted and he's only been out here for 4 days.
Tianyu would use this moment to reinforce the theories he learned the day before and put them into practice. He walked himself out from the treeline and activated his Lightning Mantle, surrounding his body in his Lightning Qi.
His presence caused a disturbance in the wolf pack who sensed the oncoming threat. Something about Tianyu made them feel very uneasy so they backed off of the two girls and grouped up. On the other hand, once the girls had seen the wolves change in behavior and also saw Tianyu, they exuded relief. As if finally seeing a light in the dark.
Tianyu, not wanting to drag this out any longer than necessary, charged at the group of wolves. With his halberd in hand, he wrapped it in a sharp layer of Lightning Qi and performed a large sweeping strike. When his weapon made contact with the first wolf, it tore through the body as if it was made of paper, and kept going. A single strike took out four wolves instantly.
[Gained 80 exp points]
The girls looked shocked.
The wolves looked shocked.

Tianyu looked excited with a large grin on his face, which after cutting through wolves like it was nothing, made him look truly terrifying.
He was initially planning on scaring these wolves off, but knowing that he could get 20 exp for every wolf he killed, those plans had changed. What followed next was a bloody massacre. After his first couple of kills, the wolves gave up fighting and attempted to flee for their lives. Unfortunately for them, Tianyu was much faster and they had no hope of escaping. After 20 minutes, Tianyu had gained a total of 900 exp points from killing 45 wolves.
After dealing with the problem, he went back to the clearing to find the girls. As he approached, they looked at Tianyu with a mix of awe and fear. Although he did save them, the strength and viciousness he had shown was burned into their brain. Now approaching them covered in blood stains they were nervous and didn't know what to do.
"T-Thank you," the older of the girls said "If you hadn't come along, we would surely be dead"
Tianyu nodded his head in response. Looking over these two girls, he could see the state of their injuries. Truly if he had arrived any later, he would be collecting their corpses instead. He pulled out some Recovery Pills and handed them to the girls. "Take this and follow me," he instructed.
The girls looked at each other and hesitated. "Thank you for your help, mister, but we have to refuse," the older girl explained "We sent our junior sister ahead to escape, we have to find her"
Tianyu could only shake his head. "She's fine. Now follow me. There are much more dangerous things out here than this pack of wolves and the smell of blood will attract them." He didn't say any more and left in the direction of his Pagoda.
The girls taking the hint, quickly consumed the Recovery Pill and followed along.
It took about 30 minutes to get back to the Pagoda with the slow pace of the injured girls. There was a look of surprise when they saw there was a Pagoda built out there in the middle of a forest. Their surprise was even bigger when they saw the formations inside and the abundance of Spiritual Qi. When they saw the young girl sleeping inside they were relieved.
The older of the girls bowed to Tianyu and expressed her thanks. He waved this off and told them to rest.
There was still plenty of time in the day left, and he still had time to go out to one of the red zones to train, but he wasn't willing to leave some strangers in his home unattended. Although the girls seemed harmless, he wouldn't trust them. So instead went outside and practiced using his bow, his target being a tree in the distance. It took him a while to get the hang of firing his bow. At first, he missed every shot, seemingly unable to control the arrow at all. Some shots went wide, or too high, some shot right into the ground, and some didn't even fire at all. Luckily for his pride, the girls inside seemed to have all fallen asleep, so he was saved some embarrassment.
After a few hours, he was getting the hang of it and started to hit the target. A few more hours passed and he was hitting about 40% of his shots. As the day went on, more and more shots hit.
Once he started to hit about 80% of his shots, he started to experiment a little with injecting Qi into the bow. This added so much more power to his shot, it was uncontrollable right now. He wasn't even sure where that arrow landed, but it was somewhere far, far into the forest. Using his bow like this was beyond him for the moment.
Next, he tried injecting Qi into just the string of the bow, unfortunately, when he did this, upon letting go of the string it split right through the arrow, leaving it a broken mess by his feet.
Lastly, he added his Qi to just the arrow. After he lined up his shot, he drew the string and released it.
BAM!
The arrow had hit the tree and completely embedded itself. The arrows from before stuck into the tree trunk but never went in very deep. This arrow, however, almost completely embedded itself. He was definitely on the right track with this, so he tried again, this time like with his halberd, he made the Qi thin and sharp. He lined up, pulled back, and let loose.
Thwack!
Shtick!
His eyes lit up. The arrow had pierced right through the tree and landed in the dirt on the other side. Tianyu wanted to experiment with his Qi more, and try to find new and innovative ways to use it, but he heard movement from inside and went to check.
The three girls had awoken and were sat there talking to each other when Tianyu entered. Each of them looked over to him when he did and was a little nervous, unsure of what to do or say. Once again they professed their thanks and had explained who they were and why they were out in the forest. It turns out that these girls were all from a sect called the Flying Sword Sect and the youngest was the granddaughter of the sect master. They had snuck out to train in the forest to impress the sect master with their fast growth. Unfortunately, they had been caught off guard by the wolves.
Tianyu could only shake his head. It wasn't his place to admonish them, and even if it was, wasn't he out in the forest doing exactly the same thing?
"So what's your plan now?" Tianyu had many things to do, he didn't want to babysit these girls and take them back to their sect.
"We had already sent out a distress signal before you saved us. It should have reached the sect and they will send somebody to come," the oldest explained.
He was relieved that this would all be over soon and that he could get back to training.
There wasn't enough food to share for all of them, so Tianyu grabbed his bow and went out to hunt something. He explained that no wildlife would approach the pagoda, and for them not to leave.
After about 30 minutes, he came across a deer drinking some water and shot it down with his bow. Collecting his prize, he threw it over his shoulder and made his way back to the pagoda.
Thwack!
Thump!
"Arrgh!" he grunted. unaware of what had just happened. He quickly looked around to see a figure swiftly approaching him.
Bam!
Crash!
The figure attacked again, sending Tianyu crashing into the wall of his Pagoda.
The disturbance caused the girls inside to pay attention and come out.
Coughing up some blood, he raised his head to see who his attacker was surprisingly, the attacker was bowing to the trio of girls when recognized the white robe with the red trimmings.
Tianyu couldn't stop himself from laughing. "Are you serious, bastard?" he asked nobody in particular.
The man then went to attack Tianyu again when he was stopped by the girls. The man looked slightly confused as to why he was stopped. He had received the distress signal which was from the young lady and when he tracked the signal down, he found the three girls trapped in a mysterious house with this man.
Tianyu was still sitting on the floor in pain "I saved the lives of these three girls and this is the thanks I get huh?"
A little shocked and embarrassed, the man explained that he wasn't aware of the situation. but Tianyu cut him off.
"Did you ever think to just ask?! What is it with you damn people and just attacking first and asking questions later?" He had had enough.
"Mister Qin," the oldest of the girls spoke "I sincerely apologize, we will compensate you for the misunderstanding"
"Just go, will you? You've caused me enough problems already." Tianyu pulled himself up and went inside. Closing and locking the door behind him.
With a complicated gaze, the four of them left.
Once again, Tianyu was heavily injured for something that wasn't his fault.
