After finishing my meal, I soon arrived at the Mission Hall, which was as crowded as the Training Ground. People of all ages and levels of cultivation rushed in and out of the building, some leisurely, others in a hurry.
The hall was divided into four areas corresponding to different task levels. Areas A and B mostly consisted of combat-oriented missions, requiring the disciples to engage in battles or hunt the monsters that had appeared in the sect's jurisdiction.
Areas C and D were more focused on chores within the sect, with missions in area C being issued by the inner sect disciples and elders, and those in area D being dedicated to the low-level disciples and consisting of tasks such as cleaning halls and removing garbage.
"The risks of these tasks are relatively low, although the merit points obtained are also quite low," I thought to myself as I walked toward Mission Area C.
I squeezed into the small crowd that had gathered near the projection stones, which displayed the various missions and their rewards. I quickly activated my Insight and examined the light screen displayed by the projection stone.
[Inner Sect sister Liu brought a five-century-old flame lotus from the Thousand Beasts forest. The spiritual energy from the lotus is rapidly decreasing. Looking for a skilled junior who has experience in planting elixirs to look after the Flame lotus and if they can solve the problem, the reward will also accompany basic alchemy knowledge.
Reward: 50 merit points]
"Not this. I don't even know what flame lotus even is."
I then glanced at other missions.
[The local Feng county is recently planting spiritual trees. Any disciple above the third stage of Qi condensation can participate. Each tree planted will give two merit points. There is no limit to the number of people and time.
Reward: Two merit points]
"Mr. Beast is that you?"
There were several missions, including taking care of spiritual fields and elixirs and acting as an assistant for various experiments, but most of them required disciples above the third stage of Qi Condensation or specialized knowledge.
"Haa... as I expected, my knowledge and cultivation are still lacking," I sighed, feeling a sense of disappointment.
Just as I was about to leave, I spotted a newly released task.
[The librarian Elder Han is currently preparing to go on a mission. A disciple is required to manage the Library in his absence. This mission is estimated to last about a month until Elder Han returns to the sect.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Basic Reward: 500 merit points
(Note: The disciple who has undertaken this mission can also view some books in the library for free)]
"This... this mission is perfect," I thought to myself and quickly snatched the projection stone. I hurried to the counter to apply for the mission, hoping to beat any potential competition.
I soon reached the counter and handed the projection stone to the sister who was attending to the disciples. After recording my application, she asked for my identification jade, which I handed over.
"Is this your first mission?" she asked, looking at my jade.
"Yes," I replied, nodding.
"Okay then, to start the mission, take this paper to Elder Han. After your mission is completed, you should ask Elder Han to seal a stamp on the paper to receive the reward," she instructed in a monotone voice.
"Thank you, sister," I said, cupping my fist in gratitude, and then left the mission area.
...
I was perusing the mission paper with a sense of satisfaction. This task was the perfect opportunity for me to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. My current understanding of the world was fragmented, with many things still unknown to me.
The compensation was also a source of joy, as expected of a mission assigned by an Elder. The reward was several times higher than those offered by standard missions. And, most importantly, this mission was a good fit for me.
After all, I have a mild disposition, things like fighting against deadly monsters all the time and murdering everyone who stands in my way don't fit my way of doing things.
Things like that should be left to the protagonist. Fighting and killing the monsters, turning disasters into opportunities, defeating the brainless villain, and then embracing beauty is the lifestyle of the protagonist.
I am not a protagonist but a transmigrator, I don't want to be the protagonist who is a certified calamity star who will bring disaster to every road he walks.
On the way to rise, if God blocks then kill the God, if Buddha blocks then kill the Buddha, that is the protagonist.
I was still unsure why I had been transported to this world, whether it was to simply witness the story unfold or to play a role in shaping its outcome.
As I gazed at the sun shining brightly in the sky, illuminating everything, I knew one thing for certain. In this extraordinary world, I just wanted to cultivate.
