(Oct 15)
My “ability” to summon dragon body parts, is not actually an ability, but more like a spell.
When I first gained my dragon claws during the wyvern attack back in August, William and I had both thought that my arm was transforming into a dragon claw.
Which we found out to be incorrect.
Instead of transforming my arm into a claw, it transforms my dragon essence into a physical form of dragon flesh and dragon scales which covers my arm.
That is a spell and not an ability.
“A spell is when someone uses their inner magic, whether it be chakra, mana, chi or even your dragon essence, to perform a task or cast a spell. Spells must involve the transformation or manipulation of magic in some way, like when I use chakra to create ice. This is the textbook definition of a spell. But people tend to misuse the term spells, abilities and skills with each other a lot, it’s pretty common for people to use these terms incorrectly.”
William dispersed the ice spear that was in the air which he had summoned before.
William raised his arm and once again, his magic gathered around his hand as a thick layer of dense ice formed on his hand.
The ice transformed into a gauntlet that covered William’s hand… but it was in the shape of a dragon claw!
“I used my own magic to activate a spell which covers my hand in ice, and as you can see, it’s in the shape of a dragon claw. Your power to summon dragon parts, is the same as my spell to summon this ice claw, but since you use authentic dragon essence, it summons a real flesh and scale dragon claw instead of my ice.
An ability is different. For example, a werewolf has the ability to transform into a beast form, where it morphs its own body. Sometimes abilities also requires magic to invoke as well, but it doesn’t actually manipulate magic, it just uses magic as fuel to perform the ability, like how coal is used to fuel furnaces thus not classifying as a spell.”
William continued ranting on and on the super detailed and super advanced magic theorems, and he started getting off topic.
He seemed to be very passionate about this “spell” topic, but I let a little cough to let him know that he was going off track.
“Ah! Sorry about that. I actually wanted to be a professor when I was younger, so I get really passionate about things like this and tend to over explain. But back to the topic at hand, do you understand what a spell is now?”
“I think I understand after you literally giving me full-on class lecture… so in a dumb short version of your explanation, a spell is when you actually have to manipulate or transform my magic like when I summon fireball, I have to turn my magic into heat and fire.”
“Yes! Now, what’s so special about spells is that it’s very flexible, you can change it and you can come up with new spells from existing spells easily. Like at first, you were only able to use a small fireball, but overtime, you adapted and combined your fire with your sword to create a flaming sword! The possibilities of spells are endless, even if you are limited to a single element!”
“I see… so what you’re trying to say is I can use my dragon power to do things that aren’t normally what you’d expect.”

He nodded.
“Like for example… you can summon your dragon body parts, even when it’s not attached to you. You would be able to create dragon claws in the air and shoot them like projectiles!”
Shoot them… like projectiles?
That sounds… cool!
Using this concept, I came up with a bunch of ideas.
It’s as William had said, the possibilities are almost endless.
“However, before we can start creating new spells and abilities, we need to know what your dragon powers are capable of and what they can and cannot do. We need to test its limitations. This means…. More experimenting!”
The moment the word “experiment” left his lips, William once again, did his thing where he pushed his glasses up his nose as the light in his glasses flashed.
Seriously man, get some glasses that fit so you don’t have to keep pushing it up…
William brought me back to the same experimenting room as last time, with the special metal walls and where I did a bunch of tests.
“Alright Anthony, first things first, I want you to summon a dragon claw using your dragon essence, however, don’t summon it attached to yourself. Summon it in the air, as you would with a fireball.”
I raised my arms and gathered my dragon essence in front of me.
My magic slowly started to solidify and formed the shape of a dragon claw.
It took longer to summon a dragon claw when it’s not attached to my hand but I was still able to summon it in the air.
The dragon claw I had summoned was floating in the air using my magic and I was able to move it around by manipulating my magic similar to how I would with a fireball or some other magic spell.
The dragon claw flew around the air at my will, sort of like a bird and it was fun to play around with.
Could this be used in a combat situation though? I focused and accelerated the speed at which my dragon claw was moving at, and I accidently smashed it into the wall of the experimenting room I was in.
The walls of the room were made of a special type of metal or steel, but even so, the impact of dragon claw smashing into it left cracks.
“Yooo… that was cool…”
“HEY! That’s expensive! Don’t go around destroying walls!”
William shouted at me through the speakers in the corner of the room.
However, even he admitted that it was pretty cool.
“That was impressive though…”
I made the dragon claw come back to me and poured more of my dragon essence into the it.
In a single burst of magic, I launched the dragon claw towards the wall as hard as I could.
KA-BLAM!
A massive dent appeared in the wall as bits and pieces flew out.
“I just told you not to break the walls…. Oh well, who cares. It’s not like I’m paying for it or anything! Continue, Anthony! Next, summon multiple dragon claws and DESTROY THE WALL!”
Even William was starting to get excited.
I summon three more dragon claws for a total of 4 dragon claws.
As I did so, I felt my magic leaving my body and I felt a little weaker due to using up my magic.
It seems like 4 dragon claws is the limit for now, anymore and I’ll be drained of all my magic.
Not only that, controlling 4 dragon claws at once was a lot more difficult.
With one dragon claw, I could focus on controlling that one but with 4 dragon claws, I had to split up my focus and control them all individually.
After a while, I got used to it though and controlling all 4 became somewhat consistent.
The four dragon claws flew around the air, whizzing around me at top speed.
This was fun!
But I wanted more, more power! More impact! Faster!
The dragon claws slowed down and returned to me at my command.
I used a small amount of magic to create fire and imbued it into my dragon claws.
I had combined fire magic along with my dragon claws to create flaming dragon claws.
The fire magic would cause a miniature explosion when the dragon claws hit anything for extra power and extra damage!
Now that I was ready, I readied my four flaming dragon claws and took a step forward as I shot my them forward like missiles!
“GO! DRAGON MISSILES!”
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Four explosions rang out as the dragon claws hit the wall, and the power of my dragon claws blew a hole in the wall.
“Goddamn… that was epic… I feel like a kid again… getting excited over a new thing I discovered… ahahahaha….”
Thus was the birth of my new skill, dragon missile.
Of course, I still need to train a lot to be actually use it effectively in battle but it’s going to help me a lot!
“Good job today Anthony… that was amazing…”
William gave me a quick compliment and packed up to leave…
But then suddenly dropped an important bombshell.
“By the way, I asked Briggs, since he’s the king’s son and has a lot of authority, if I could put and more priority into taking down The Grinch and he agreed. In one week, we’re going to take down The Grinch once and for all.”
